Would love to know. My biggest issue has always been just that the ground is so hard to walk on. I would like it to feel soft and lush. Great tips. Thanks for the help!

    Nice backing track, Dave. I gave up on my front lawn, too damn hot out there anyway and pulled the Fender Strat off the rack, popped open an Oktoberfest…
    I ripped out my sidewalk strip by hand this AM -sprinkler station cycle failure killed it off after a chinch bug hit set it on the road to Hell along with a bit too much Triazicide applied…. I am toying with the notion of a switch to Bermuda in that strip instead, might dethatch the whole front yard first then see how I feel about it’s chances for the same switchover if the stolon damage is too great. Less expensive water bills if I do that, too!!! Bermuda is not as thirsty as StA, same dormancy in winter, easier to dethatch once per year, too.

    Man, all I have to say is WOW! I’m impressed! I reside in central FL and when I thought I had my answers to my St. Augustine grass fiasco, my head is spinning! :-( Your lawn looks amazing and my lawn did at one time. Where do i start…..I’ll make this quick. 1. My grass was bad! Brown all over, tons of dead spots and areas where no grass. 2. I wanted a green lawn, FAST! 3. I bought St. Augustine sod pods and put them in the areas that needed it. 3. I put down top soil and put down Bermuda grass (it grows faster than St. Augustine) but comes with weeds etc. 4. My lawn was luscious all summer long and very vibrant. 5. Saw some weeds and moths so I put down weed and feed and insecticide for the moths 6. Those areas that “were green” were full of weeds and died off! 7. For the last month I’ve been putting down Bermuda grass - “I know wrong choice” - I need patience! 8. I went out and purchased a de-thatcher machine and it’s pulling up the dead grass indeed BUT also the good St. Augustine grass!!! 9. My home has beautiful trees but you know what comes with that beauty….leaves! If they aren’t raked or removed, that’s where the lawn doesn’t get any water or fertilizer……10. I have the perfect storm now and I need to fix it! 11. I’m looking into having the dead areas replaced. :-( with new St. Augustine sod. I’ve tried over seeding (with Bermuda seeds since there aren’t St. Augustine seeds. Just sod pods or sheets of St. Augustine sod. 12. I wanted to de-thatch my lawn since it’s a lot of dead grass even between the great green St. Augustine grass. So, I’m at a cross-road…..Do I work with the St. Augustine grass or deal with Bermuda grass? My initial thoughts a year ago was that the St. Augustine grass would choke out the Bermuda grass and take over! That would be fantastic but it hasn’t yet…..thoughts????

    • @joshuameyer5749
      @joshuameyer5749 2 года назад

      Your St Augustine will never overtake Bermuda. Dethatching St Aug can do some SERIOUS damage since it reproduces only through above ground stolons. The brown spots you mentioned can be a number of things, but I’m guessing it’s either an irrigation issue or disease. I which case you should check your sprinklers and hit it with a good fungicide. I like Clearys 3336 (group 1) for quick treatment, but you should follow it up with another group ( I use Heritage G/ group 11)of treatment to prevent tolerance.
      If you want a single stand of St Augustine your going to need to kill the entire lawn and start over. Or you can just keep mowing and let it do it’s thing. I have a mixture of both (not by choice) and it looks good. The St Aug gives it volume and the Bermuda filled in any thin spots.

      I live in Central Florida also (Daytona area) & had beautiful St. Augustine grass the first 7 years....until very ugly Bermuda grass started creeping in....and then started taking over the St. Augustine during a period when my irrigation system broke. Bermude WILL overtake St.Augustine...unfortunately. My lawn guy said there was nothing to get rid of the Bermuda, but I recently researched and found that a product called Ornamec (by Gordon's) effectively kills Bermuda. So that's on my to-do list so I can then concentrate on reviving my St.Augustine. RobertHoward9482....let me know what luck (or unluck) you've had since you last posted 2 years ago.

    I noticed all of the dead palm trees in your neighbor's yards. I have 5 dead palm trees as well as 4 dead orange trees in my yard here in Houston. The tree service companies are charging an additional $50 for disposal of dead palms. Apparently, the local garbage dump (land fill) has been over run with dead palms, they had to start charging $50 a tree.

    Lawns here in San Antonio are all confused. Started to grow, hit with the freeze, soil temps rose again, then we had the cold front that dipped soil temps back to low 60's. I just took this time to dethatch, scarify, and micro and macro nutrients. Hopefully it come's back later april early may when we get some rain and temps shoot up.

      @@MrLushLawn yea when they built the house they didn't really care about what grass to toss in the front. We had them not put ANYTHING in the back and just laid Bermuda sod ourselves. Plan is to work the soil in the front this grow season, get the nutrients it needs in there, and Zoysia Plug the front after an aeration and leveling. Just plug the front and let the Zoysia take over.

    Great video! Last summer we did not stay on top of watering due to restrictions and us being gone. Our first time really having to take care of a lawn in a while as before we came from apartments. The front corner of our Augustine lawn dried up and died. It’s the only section of our front lawn that isn’t shaded by our red Oak. Then the freeze happened. After that, with all of the rain this summer, a lot of it recovered except for that front dead part. It got covered by weeds. So I have manually uprooted all the weeds and now it’s just a patch of soil. I just spread compost from where the green grass ends through the bare soil. If I aerate and use soil conditioner, do you think that plus the compost will be enough to help the grass extend to cover the big corner? Or do I need to buy new sod for this?

Now there is a thick layer of thick dead brown blades preventing anything from growing on my lawn. It looks pale, brown and dying. It isn’t very long so I’m afraid to cut it shorter. Thanks for watching buddy 🙏. I definitely think you should rake up as much you can possible without pulling out the stolons from the ground. Once you tired that. Definitely mow low to pick up more derbris after that focus on conditioning your soil. Major major key. Look into molasses it helps break down debris quicker. And lastly once you see the areas that aren't growing drip some manure. Feel free to DM on Instagram. I'll gladly help you in with a more detailed process.

      Hello Adam. That's what makes me a little different from the others. I don't wanna sound like i try to up sell products. That's the reason why I only mention active ingredients. As per ur question I get mine done locally but if you look on google you can type "bio stimulants" and there's tons and tons of companies that offer it for the DIY market. Thanks for watching bud.

    Mr Lush, help! Our St Augustine was ruined when a big flood from a hurricane came to South Texas. We now have a mix of Bermuda, St Augustine, and all types of weeds! We’ve tried weed killer and watering but it’s getting worse with crab grass, it looks bad. Our neighbor recommended Atrazine like she did on her St Augustine. What do you recommend?? Help!

    • @MrLushLawn
      @MrLushLawn  3 года назад +1

      Hello. I have bad news for you. Once bermuda is in ur lawn there's no solution to keep one away from the other. Things you can do is mow tall since st augustine loves being tall. Yes atrazine is something that can be safely added to st augustine and bermuda hates atrazine. Now, only thing atrazine will do to bermuda is stunt it not kill it. And atrazine is a great post emergent weed killer so let's say u have other weeds in ur lawn. Hope this helps.

      Another product as to kill weeds? There's tons of herbicides depends on what ur facing. Or another product to stunt bermuda? There's no other product unfortunately. Keep in mind bermuda is not a weed. It's a grass. So be careful what you use. And thank you guys for the support 🙏🙏 I'll gladly help anytime

      Hello. 3 In 1 is bad during this time since it has a lot of Nitrogen. So what you did was that the small weeds that were in your lawn tripled in size due to the good amount of Nitrogen. Weed love Nitrogen. So I suggest you to distinguish which weeds you have perennials or annuals. And control them little by little. It's as hassle but it's worth it. Good luck.

    • @rocky2416
      @rocky2416 2 года назад

      If the bermuda is already taking over, it is very hard. Just keeping mowing high, 4 inches, but trying to do it very often, BEFORE any new seeds from Bermuda form. If your yard is very small, the best way ( a lot of work) is to pull every single Bermuda from the root. That will accomplish several things. 1 Bermuda will not reproduce.2 when pulled, it will leave air pockets that are good for S. A. 3 When pulled, it will let space to get more water for S. A. 4 and the most important, It will not compete for sunlight, for space, for water, for nutrients, and for lookins.
