Thanks Allyn for taking the time to make this great and informative video. One thing I think you overlooked in the how to mow section of the video is the importance of a sharp blade on your mower. As a bit of a lawn nut myself, and when I gave advice from the True Value Hardware store where I sold fertilizers and lawn mowers, I always stressed to the customer to mow with a sharp blade... minimizing the "damage" you do to that grass plant. I keep several sharp blades on hand and change them out every two or three mowings on my postage stamp-sized 50' X 100' St. Augustine lawn. I think proper mowing (and watering) is more important than the fertilizer(s) one may be using. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video.

After seeing your video on the st Augustine lawn care. Much appreciated the tips how to treat the lawn for better results. I will definitely keep watching your videos for more tips. Thanks
Yes sir. I have noticed over the last two seasons with all the different products I have tried and watering scheduling the thing that has helped my lawn the most is the mowing hands down. The lawn has responded so well to frequent mowing. Whether mowing tall or short just removing just the tips by mowing more often has helped to thicken the lawn, retain its color and over all health of the lawn. It uses up some much energy to re grow after taking off more than 1/3 of the blade. That rule definitely makes a difference and anything below that amount is a good start.
What I learned from you during quarantine and being furloughed man.. can’t thank you enough. Been back to work for a few months and now I’m teaching my coworkers what you taught me and even sharing the links to your channel. Neighbors are like how the?!?... Thanks from a fellow St.Aug tender here in FL.
I had designs on mowing Thursday this week, two days after weed spray. Got stuck at work, maybe tomorrow before it rains this weekend. Else the lawn will be at 7" again. I mowed down to 4" Sunday. Once a week not enough, clumping up some, at least it has dried out a little this week. And I now need more gas and a blade sharpening. Granted its never looked better, but its easy to look good in the spring. The look after July is more telling of how the lawn is doing.
Hello, long time fan here. I was wondering if you could make a video about leveling a lawn. Not just laying down top soil or sand but like an over haul. My lawn has so many slopes. It transitions from 7 inches in elevations. I mean, I got trees on a downward slope that I wanted to put a nice stone edging around but I honestly don't even know where to start. Please help. Thank you. Also keep up the fantastic work.
I've been mowing my lawn like this for the last 59 years....It definitely works! Also, this time of year, my grass has gone to seed. I like to catch some of it with a bag and spread it on areas that I want to seed. Some of that seed catches and fills things in.
You are being helpful to many people. Thank you. I am glad you pointed out how we can work with nature instead of against it. Keep it up! You also included your humour, which I liked.

What if you have (living in Louisiana)Bermuda but out in St. Aug and Floritam, and planted in spots Centipede. What level? My grass is struggling from the bad freeze/ ice storm still.
I'm in florida and my lawn is bahia and I don't know if I should mix it with someting else ... I'm new at this and I just want a thick green grass... I'm willing to put in the work.
I live in Central Florida too. I have plenty of Bahia Grass and a mix of St Augustine. Keep the Bahia. If I had one choice I would have 💯% Bahia. It is incredible and much stronger to sun and better with a lack of rain than St Augustine. Keep it
I really will love to learn more about my grass (Centipedes). We are currently using the liquid aerating to see if our red clay soil gets loose a little bit. but we have some big dry spots with 0 grass in it. Please show us how to deal with this type of soil and grass.
@The Lawn Care Nut. Question for you. I live in Northern VA with a primarily Tall Fescue lawn (looking great after using your fert's and grass seed "Black Beauty" recommendations BTW!!!). I do have some Poa Annua, something I have never had in all my years at my house, so I have no idea where they came from. Anyways, I am thinking of treating the current weeds with an application of Tenacity now, and then maybe another in 2 months (split application) to kill the crabgrass and such that has been pestering me for the past few years. Plan is to overseed in the fall, and then early next year before the temps hit 55* I was going to start with Prodiamine to prevent the Poa Annua and other weed seeds from even starting. Is there anything I should tweek in this plan? I actually have time to hit my lawn hard with the attention that it needs, but don't want to do anything that would harm it more than it would help.
What if my 4month old sods are brownish green and are about 2 inch? Do I still cut grass? Or wait until ~4inch? It is warm season St. augustine. Thanks always.
From South Texas here. I’ve missed the pre-emergent time frame and already see the crab grass coming in. Any tips at this point to rid? Pull? Rocking the St. Aug. Thanks in advance!
I have 4-5 different kinds of grass and a ton of weeds. I'm working on getting the St Augustine to be dominate. How will it go up against Bermuda grass
Great mowing lesson. Thanks. I hate Bermuda grass it invades my marathon constantly. Every year I have to manually pull it out before it takes over. Do you have a suggestion on how to kill it without killing the ornamental marathon.
Lol I know I have mostly marathon and the Bermudagrass I have is so opportunistic! Maybe dethatching would help and overseeing in the fall. I hand pull too. I haven’t tried dethatching but fescue doesn’t really have thatch like Bermudagrass.
I like the analogy to working out. Some people just work out a little bit and spend tons of money on supplements expecting a miracle. It's huge business, and people just throw away their money really. Same with growing grass or gardening. Master the basics first like mowing, watering and feeding the lawn. Do some dethatching and aeration and weed control and you're like 99% of the way there. Then if you want to buy a super lawn supplement go ahead. 🤘
I noticed that I have areas of a yellowish color throughout my lawn. I thought that maybe I need to sharpen my mower blades, but I noticed the grass is yellow all the way to the soil. Is that an issue of low iron? Should I do another application of fertilizer?
I drew a Hopscotch Board on my driveway and a Smiley Face on my sidewalk. That's about the only thing I can duplicate what Bret has regarding my lawn...but I'm still working at it with positive results. Your yard looks terrific as per usual LCN.
May I say that when you make a video, you include some kind of info on when? I live in the Seattle area (so, cool season lawn), which is generally cool in the winter - not cold (it is Dec 31 as I type this and the OAT - Outside Ambient Temp - is 48kF at 12 noon). I am getting ready to go cut my patch of lawn (as opposed to my half-acre of grass, etc.). A far cry from Indiana at this time of year. Put another way: what can I do now (besides mow)? Love you videos.
I knew it would be mowing, yet I still watched in full since I love to continue education. I ask 3 questions, Allyn: 1. What height should my dad be mowing his zoysia in Long Island? 2. When should I apply Hydretain? End of May? Long Island as well. 3. Not a question. That mid week mow job is critical. I did it last season until July and it paid off big time!
Great video and fun to watch! I just moved into a house last August and have had grass issues out the wazoo despite my best intentions. You mentioned type of grass being important for cutting height. What's the best way to figure out what type of grass I have, given I'm a newbie to all of this? Thanks for helping us get our lawns looking better!
I’ve mowed my Bermuda any where between 1.5 to 3 inches and it loves it no matter what. My old house I mowed it at 4 inches because I didn’t know any better and it looked great! Maybe in a couple years I’ll have it ready to try reel mowing.
I bought the 2021 warm season e-book and on page 29 you say there’s a “specific centipede program below” I’ve read this entire thing and there is no centipede specific program I can find. Please let me know what page to jump to, or what resources may have been left out.
Thanks! I live near Orlando and have St Augustine that I have filling in aggressively over a ton of bare spots. With that, I have a lot of runners bowing out of the ground that when I mow over, it cuts the blade down to the stolon or cuts the stolon in half (I mow on highest setting 4inches or higher with my Ego). Do I just skip around all the stolons and get what I can?
Watched the Video fix your lawn with single application - very helpful! Biggest concern I have pets want to know it will be safe for them to be on the lawn.
I have a fiskars reel mower with a catcher and was given a rotary mower that wasn't running. Put on a new carburetor and made sure the blade is sharp. I alternate both mowers to keep the thatch down some and to give a nice healthy cut on my st Augustine. Plus the reel is quiet and doesn't require gas lol.
I'm new to the channel and enjoyed the video so I subscribed. I'm in the Chicago suburbs so I hope to see some cool weather grass tips. I just moved from a townhome to a single family home and mowed my lawn today for the first time, probably the first time I've mowed since living with my parents. I never thought I would be so into lawn care but I look forward to trying to have the best lawn on the street. (Side note I was in Florida in October for a wedding and had some free time so decided to go golf and heard a sandhill crane for the first time and I thought I was in Jurassic Park and was slightly scared)
That's why I love my Landroid! Runs almost everyday, razors off a tiny amount each mow, and works out its own routine based on grass type / fertilization / watering schedules. All while I eat chips and salsa 😁
I mowed high consistently for the first time last summer and had great success with it (TTTF/KBG). I had 1 issue though where my tire tracks were (zero turn), the grass would stay laid over and actually began growing horizontally and at times would be 10-12 inches tall. It's doing that again this year so ive been raking it before mowing and that helps, but i can't do that every time. What should i do differently?

From South Texas here. I’ve missed the pre-emergent time frame and already see the crab grass coming in. Any tips at this point to rid? Pull? Rocking the St. Aug. Thanks in advance!
Wow!...Al the St Aug smokin, but that sunset 🌅 montage on fire 🔥!...that gotta be the way home✝️...nice brother👍🤩☮️👏
Thank you kindly for the lawn advice, i will certainly follow them. Blessings for all you do to teach others.
It was opening day today. First mow of the season🤘🤘
The lunch mows have been my favorite part of working from home.
Your lawn looks like a Oasis. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the good work. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Suns out calves out! Easy man, my wife uses this site. Great video as always.
😂😂
Great info here. What about sharpening your blades? What’s your recommendation on that..
I knew it would be mowing, yet I still watched in full since I love to continue education. I ask 3 questions, Allyn:
1. What height should my dad be mowing his zoysia in Long Island?
2. When should I apply Hydretain? End of May? Long Island as well.
3. Not a question. That mid week mow job is critical. I did it last season until July and it paid off big time!
if you dad can keep it at 2" it will do well and Hydretain at the end of May will get you through much of summer
@@TheLawnCareNut nice, thanks!
Hey man LOVE your videos...I want to buy the LCN Hat...Where can I find one?
Nice videos.......another way to keep your grass green n healthy is to mulch ....I never bag .I mulch everything on my lawn...grass,leaves ..
Great content and nailed the closing sunset with 80's cop drama music.
Yea, great music, where was that from?I want to listen to that again
What about the mowing height for Centipede grass which is prevalent in the shoreline areas in the Southeast? Thanks!
I usually cut mine between 3 to 4.
I’ve mowed my Bermuda any where between 1.5 to 3 inches and it loves it no matter what. My old house I mowed it at 4 inches because I didn’t know any better and it looked great! Maybe in a couple years I’ll have it ready to try reel mowing.
Great video, longer the better! Funny at the end talking to the bird.
That lawn do be lookin’ real thicc, Allyn.
Watched the Video fix your lawn with single application - very helpful! Biggest concern I have pets want to know it will be safe for them to be on the lawn.
Those cranes sound like the velociraptors in “Jurassic Park”. Pretty eerie to hear if they’re behind a big wall or covered by trees.
modern dinosaurs
Sandhill cranes is what they look like and sound like.
Keep the great content coming sir! Anxious to get that "Fert Life" decal on the truck too :) It's on the way!
Congratulations on the working out, keep it up!!!!
Agree. Agree. Agree 👍! I'm in Europe. I wish our grass was as nice!
I’ve learned so much from you over the years.heck I’m still learning. Lol. Great video as always.
I didn't know that frequent mowing was good for your lawn. Thank you so much! Question: how often should I water my lawn?
I'm paying more attention to my yard than I ever had before. Thank you!
Hi, I enjoy your videos! How do I get rid of grasshoppers? They're destroying my plants and are infecting my lawn. Please help
Love your videos and I thank you for sharing your knowledge.
You may be mowing while the grass is still damp. At least that’s been my experience with tire tracks
