Hi George, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your channel. I've been watching all your old videos and you share some excellent information with your viewers. I wanted to mention to anyone looking to get consistent pressure with a pump-style backpack sprayer buy a CF valve (constant flow valve) for your sprayer. CF valves deliver a consistent flow and automatically close if pressure drops below the preset pressure of that specific CF valve.
Hey George thanks alot for your video. First time I wasn’t confused about what was going on. I have a new lawn now and I’m trying to figure everything out. Thanks again
Thanks Matt, i appreciate that! and i agree its awesome but the spread is way too wide, especially for my 1500 sqft front lawn, i end up throwing fert in the street lol not too mention it spreads much better when the hopper is at least 1/4 full which rarely happens except when im throwing down milo once per year:(
Right after I’ve mowed, I get my hose end sprayer and fill the sprayer full with the cheapest household ammonia you can buy. My dial on the sprayer is at a 4. Walk back and forth in your yard spraying the ammonia. Buy the time you get the back yard done, the front yard is a dark green.
Thanks George, I just learned some really good tips for my lawn, and YES I also have one of those neighbors who's lawn consistently remains super green.
Scott's Super Turf Builder with the Dandelion killer , and pelletized lime just before a easy light rain , no washout. Give that a few days for best results let it grow a tad longer than normal, then cut to give the blades a tougher blade root. First 2 or 3 mows I mulch it back as it is full of nutrients that the lawn needs . Keep mulching until fall for best results ...I'm in SC it works best for me, might or might not for you , I have red clay under my lawn , but this works .
Im a licenced applicator with over 15 years experience. And even though you can't legally get what I can. You did a wonderful job. To take care of tougher weeds you need a systemic herbicides, so it can translocate through the plant and kill it deeper in the ground. Example you can't truly kill morning glory if you spray it with 2 4 d your just killing the exposed plant. Its tap root is deep. 2 4 d is a contact herbicide. If you used something like lantreal ( similar to mile stone but rated for trees) you can kill it alot deeper into the ground.
@@robbielynngregory5281 also note that this method will take a little longer to kill or see results a systemic takes a bit longer do to it takes time to translocate through the plant. Verses a contact herbicide same with a contact insecticide verse a systemic insecticide.
I'm always leary of so-called quick-fixes when it comes to lawn care, but your 3-day turnaround is nothing short of impressive. Personally, I throw down 160lbs of Milorganite on my approximately 8000 square foot lawn; the new 6-4-0 stuff is also 4% iron (I think). Sometimes I'll throw down a few bags of Ironite to top it off. Keep in mind soil pH levels will affect nutrient uptake rates. If your soil is too acidic or alkaline, it won't matter what you throw down. Keeping soil pH between 6.2 and 7.0 is ideal. Turf around trees (such as the one in your backyard George) also gets robbed of moisture; be not afraid to soak those areas with what may seem like excessive amounts of water.
I hear you on that! Everyday theirs a new miracle product popping up. That’s actually what brought me to make this video. I wanted ppl to know they can turn around their lawn fast w simple and readily available products. Sounds like you have a solid plan! Love using milo once them temps get a bit warmer and I just tried ironite recently, I was highly impressed! Thanks for sharing!
I use milconite too. What I like about it is, it does not burn, and it helps keep Deer out of yard. I have used that Scots Max Green. It is AMAZING! That would eliminate a step of applying separate nitrogen. My lawn was so green and thick with the Scott's Max . My lawn was an unbelievable green color. The only thing is you will have to keep mowing your lawn, due to the growth. Mowing it is harder too, due to the thickness. But my lawn was amazing. It was like walking on a memory foam mattress
Why wouldn't you use a complete fertilizer , 8-8-8, rather than one higher in ratio with Nitrogen predominate? Adding trace elements to the mix is acceptable if you can identify a deficiency and this Iron spray certainly did a nice job of boosting the green. I have been a keen gardener for a while and use an organic fert, ( poultry manure plus trace ) once in early Summer ( our rainy season), then bump with a dressing of complete mineral fert in Winter. That seems to do OK. I did a full forking last year and threw down a sandy top dressing soil to loosen up the clay base. That simple thing has left me with a lawn like a lounge room carpet as the ground seems to spring under the foot.
I've always had great results using 10-10-10. Lay it down the day before a rain comes in during early spring. But I'm in Kentucky. Your results look great as well.
Been using that for years. Cheapest way to go from WM compared to Scott’s stuff. Also triple 13 and triple 16 work well too. Also a loyal Milorganite user when overseeding in the fall and spring.

Im in missouri with thick clay dirt. I hard raked the existing lawn. I was planning to overseed it, then fertilize, then do the iron application. What you think
@@PrincessCutLawnCare no, just sprinklers. We were thinkig about hiring a service but the lawn doesnt look too bad just uncared for. We have basic care equipment and thought we could care for it ourselves. If we cant overseed, can we just aerate and do what you say...fertilize and givr it some iron.
Well I normally start in the spring with about 10 loads of chicken litter. Then one round of spray when the weeds start coming up out of a 60 gal sprayer run about 60psi at 1500 rpm 24d with some remedy mixed in with it for the tuff stuff. Then watch it grow 😆 . My daddy always said if you look you will learn something new every day and you sir know your stuff. So today I have learned something from you thanks for the advice and very good video. 👍
Hi George - I'm in Canada just outside Toronto so similar climate to you. I started off this year by scalping my lawn then leveling it with a mix of sand, manure and seed. The lawn looks better than ever but I am seeing some yellow blades of grass evenly distributed in the lawn which takes away from the green colour. I'm using a CIL 33 0 3 with 3% iron every 6 weeks. I'm pretty new to lawn care so any help is appreciated. The lawn was put down as sod rolls 3 years ago. Thanks for your channel!
Nice video man...keep working on it. On my yard I alternate Milo with Pure Organics every 6 weeks. They are slow-release but my goal is to get a very good soil. I use Moss Out when I use Pure Organics for the iron, so not only it takes care of the moss it would also give the dark-green pop to it. Then apply humic acid every three weeks too...
awesome thanks for sharing ray! i use ferrous sulfate to control moss which is the active ingredient in moss out. Love it for those exact reasons. Appreciate you watchin!
I use Biosol Forte once in the early summer 25 pounds one week then one week later the other 25 pound's followed by 50 lbs of Blend. Done just sit back and enjoy the summer mowing season. I used Scott’s triple action for seeding. Grass turned nice a green after a week. Just applied my first Milorganite of the season. But my lawn is nice a green. Enjoy the content.
nitrogen will make your lawn overall greener iron will give your lawn a blueish green tint (desired color) you can apply both at the same time if you like
Spray for weeds first, hit it with urea 46N:0P:0K like Richgro or similar. Water this in (small prills dissolve quickly, doesn't take long) Then a more regular slow release NPK fertilizer where watering-in isn't so critical. Epsom salts (Magnesium sulfate) which is a soil conditioner really not a fertilizer. Can also spray Seasol around the place, it _may_ be good as a general soil conditioner, has some nutrients and to get down in the root zone and stimulate things like worms / micro-organisms supposedly, I did see more worm activity so maybe it did work there, but then you have to deal with worm castings a bit, I just water them in myself. You can save on urea / NPK a bit by being careful and applying it by hand to just the areas that need it and need to green up etc.
Thank you for those tips !! I will most likely hire someone to do this because I have about 3 acres. Just my opinion though , I would get rid of that maple tree while it is still small. I know they grow quickly and give a lot of shade but trust me when I say that it will be nothing but trouble in the future .
The one thing I had to do to really make the lawn green was to cut down trees! I had the soil tested and it it's basically perfect for grass, the biggest missing ingredient was sunlight. Water was definitely a close second in terms of making it look good, but nothing else matters in the end without those rays.
Yeah, and many branches from others. That was last fall so I didn't get a chance to seed the area it was shading. I have just started that process this week, fingers crossed!
Growing up in FL my dad always applied 6.6.6 to our St Augustine grass. We always had LUSH grass under our giant, shady oaks. Please don't cut down trees.
@@catherineatkinson1729 @Catherine Atkinson basically use the soda stream (pH4 or so) to fill a tank to spray on lawn, my lawn is clay which is typically alkaline and utilize the seltzer water to break up the ground a little. It would not be effective on soil that is tightly compacted, I also do it in the spring and evening as I am unsure of effects related to evaporation or sun with this technique. Anecdotally it made my lawn much greener and grows a little faster in the areas I did a test run. I would suggest figuring out soil type and if alkaline trying a small patch and observing for results in a week to two weeks. My goal was to utilize the chemical reaction to agitate the soil which I did note to feel softer under foot, keep in mind that it is also possible the growth can be related to the CO2 in the soda water could act as a stimulant for plant growth
George, Im curious why you bagged your clippings instead of mulching especially when you just applied fertilizers? Maybe because you havee a few weeds in your lawn? Thanks
Yes I always bag back there as it’s a flood plain and the disease is out of control. Made sure to fully water it in before hand, the prills of the Scott’s lawn food are very fine and break down fast unlike most fertilizers that have huge clunky prills

I wish I would have seen this a few months ago when the weather was below 80s here in Texas. Is there anything I can do to make it look greener in the hot summer months?
Since you have warm season grass, you can do this program now, but only apply half rate. Be sure to apply in the evening and water it in and you’ll be all good
I know people look at me funny, but I was out there for hours last year picking all the weeds by hand. Then I would you a Pure Nitrogen spray, along with Milorganite. After this my yard this year is SOOO much better and weed free. Without even mowing once, I have no Weeds, why the neighbors are full or dandelions LOL. I just dethatched and mowed then put more Milorganite down.
@@PrincessCutLawnCare thanks G! I put down the liquid Iron early today, with some SuperThrive, blue dye and surfactant. The lawn is green, but i noticed that the heat here in TX is getting to it. I will keep ya posted.

Wow thanks for this video...will do tha5cto my poor old back lawn. .cheers... great video...yeah I like fast results too..
Thanks!
Im in missouri with thick clay dirt. I hard raked the existing lawn. I was planning to overseed it, then fertilize, then do the iron application. What you think
might be a bit late for you to seed now, do you have irrigation?
@@PrincessCutLawnCare no, just sprinklers. We were thinkig about hiring a service but the lawn doesnt look too bad just uncared for. We have basic care equipment and thought we could care for it ourselves. If we cant overseed, can we just aerate and do what you say...fertilize and givr it some iron.
Lawn looks great.
Thanks!
Does ths liquid iron stain your sprayer tank? I know getting in on clothes or drivewag turns it brown.
Nope it’s chelated so no worries… if you use pure iron sulfate.. then it will stain big time
@@PrincessCutLawnCare - Thanks George!
If you dont know that would be for the back yard witch is a pasture. 😂 but being for real great video I did not know that iron would help you lawn.
We are still with you ! Jacksonville, Florida ✌️😎
Dude you have a beautiful lawn.
Your the lawn professor
I wish!
Maybe you could drill a hole in the sprayer with the lip to help drain liquids. Thanks for the tips! Your lawn looks great!
Thanks Jorge, very useful and professional advice.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the model number of the tip sprayer, I've been looking for a good one like this for a while.
I use Biosol Forte once in the early summer 25 pounds one week then one week later the other 25 pound's followed by 50 lbs of Blend. Done just sit back and enjoy the summer mowing season. The name of the company is John and Bobs Smart soil Solutions incredible products. Thanks for posting your video!!
Awesome! never heard of john and bobs but im always looking for new and exciting products for the lawn. Appreciate you sharing, i will deff have to check them out😊
Good stuff!!! Another big mistake a lot of people make is cutting grass to short.
Mowing short takes a special type of dedication that most homeowners aren’t willing to put in. I mow my front lawn at a half inch and it’s hard work to successfully pull it iff
@@PrincessCutLawnCare 1/2”??? Dang, that’s got to be interesting, I have my mower set at 3.5” right now, will raise it to 4” as soon as it takes off.
@@woohunter1 yup, I keep the tall fescue in the backyard at 3 1/2 to 4 inches and reel mow the front kbg at a half in with a golf coarse greens mower, check out this vid where I brought down under a half in m.ruclips.net/video/ZS2WGp5voJM/видео.html
Started My lawn journey last year. Used Milorganite last spring, summer and Fall. Got to spring this year. And Because I didn’t overseed in fall. I did this year. I used Scott’s triple action for seeding. Grass turned nice a green after a week. Just applied my first Milorganite of the season. But my lawn is nice a green. Enjoy the content.
Thanks! Glad to hear things are progressing fro you:)
Thanks for sharing😄
Hello friend, your lawn is beautiful! Thanks for your help, I will try this
So nice of you, good luck with your lawn projects!
I love looking at 500 sq ft lawns that don’t get south exposing sun angles and u only need a 1lb of fertilizer . Of course u will have a nice lawn!
Right on
Could you explain when to use a nitrogen product and when to use an iron product. Should both be used at different times?
nitrogen will make your lawn overall greener
iron will give your lawn a blueish green tint (desired color)
you can apply both at the same time if you like
Any vids on gas string trimmers? I need as light as possible. Thanks
Its not gas but its the lightest and most powerful trimmer ive ever used:

George, You are the man!!! Thank you for this information. Liked and Subscribed!!!!!
Awesome, thank you!
I've never added iron but now I'll have to try it. Thanks 👌
Hey George! Somehow I missed this video. I just jumped on the Feature train to help w bronzing from PGR. Jury is still out...
Milorganite.....every month! Plus some fast acting lime (as needed) to make soil less acidic. I have only used Ironite once and it worked well.
Love me some milo!
Also love the granular ironite, not so mush the liquid version.
Thanks for sharing wrangler life!
I appreciate you just because you got the dad shoes on
Lol, those the lawn shoes 😂
I live and California and the weather right now is in the 90s. Could I apply this to my tall fescue grass now??
i would wait until its at least in the 80s and than apply in the evening

Thank you and great videos , they’re very helpful
This is a good guy
Thanks John!
Did you end up cutting down the tree?
Yeah, and many branches from others. That was last fall so I didn't get a chance to seed the area it was shading. I have just started that process this week, fingers crossed!
Growing up in FL my dad always applied 6.6.6 to our St Augustine grass. We always had LUSH grass under our giant, shady oaks. Please don't cut down trees.
I do the things mentioned and Epsom salt inearly spring and use my soda stream for carbonated water to aerate chemically
cool! never heard of that technique! you should make a video about it!
Please explain how you do that aeration. Interesting!
@@PrincessCutLawnCare thank you. Just subscribed 👍👍👍
@@jamesmilloy2411 thanks James much appreciated buddy, see ya around
Iron (and sulfer) also moves the Ph of the soil towards neutral if you have alkali soil. (I have had that at my last three homes.) Get a ph sest kit.
Ammonium sulfate works very well, also.
Yessir, I’ve been using urea but I’m going to switch because I could use the acidity of the AS
Beautiful yard my guy. Id flatten that big mound in the yard, but to each their own.
I am Emeka Emmanuel, based in Staten Island NY. I would be so excited to help you turn your ugly-looking lawn into a beauty, and we are also into garden maintenance. Looking forward to working with you.
I just put down Scott's weed, feed, crabgrass preventer. How long should I wait to put down milorganite to make my grass greener?
3-4 weeks, milorganite works best when the temps are over 65 degrees
Thanks!
I wish I would have seen this a few months ago when the weather was below 80s here in Texas. Is there anything I can do to make it look greener in the hot summer months?
Since you have warm season grass, you can do this program now, but only apply half rate. Be sure to apply in the evening and water it in and you’ll be all good
What have you done About the rough area around your tree? I see maybe the grass is struggling to get nutrients or sunlight
will be doing a lawn reno back here in the fall and create some sort of mulch bed for it
Great vid George!
Thanks JP!
I used the Scott’s as well as well as a weed n feed liquid. Awesome lawn BTW
Thanks kass!
If I were to apply Southern AG chelated liquid iron…how long until I can water the lawn, Georgie?
Hey Frankie! I would follow the label directions but usually iron should be left on a few hours and then watered in
@@PrincessCutLawnCare thanks G! I put down the liquid Iron early today, with some SuperThrive, blue dye and surfactant. The lawn is green, but i noticed that the heat here in TX is getting to it. I will keep ya posted.
I had good initial results with pellet lime but then diminishing returns. Found out too much lime can block iron uptake, so this spring I skipped the lime, used Halts plus fertilizer and used pellet iron for the first time. Greened up really good!
Awesome! Glad to hear it’s working out for you!
What type of pellet iron are you using?
@@PrincessCutLawnCare Pennington Ironite 1-0-1 from Home Depot.
That’s some good stuff
