Hey George, great video as usual. Would I need to forgo this fertilizer crabgrass treatment if I’m reseeding to avoid it from preventing the new grass seed from germinating?
So Ortho weed be gone. I got the concentrate like you showed in a different video and 2 gal sprayer. Mixed per instructions. I had the sprayer on a middle most/spray. I sprayed each weed a second or so. A week later the yard is starting to look yellow with the dandelions popping. Did I wait too long? Nothing looks to be dying.
Give it another week or 2, if you don’t see them getting damaged, hit them again. The weather has been pretty cool lately and ortho works best when the temps are in the 60-80 degree range
For anyone in the south, make sure the post-emergent weed killer you use is safe on your grass. The tips in this video are good, but Weed B-gon *should not used on St. Augustine* as well as some other turfs
Not true I got Saint Augustine grass and when you go to Home Depot or Lowe’s, they have the versions that are made for your grass. It will specifically say kills the weeds, not the grass and then it will specifically say what grass types it safe on and they would sell it in your local Home Depot made for your grass.
@@artieartya It's true that they do try to cater the products in local stores for the types of lawns in the area, but there are still products that can be harmful, especially to St. Augustine. I was just saying it's best practice to check what grasses any product you purchase is made for-especially if you're purchasing online. It's also best to check specifically the label or the manufacturer's website because a lot of big box stores aren't careful about their listings. My Home Depot listing for generic Weed B-Gon that is available in store that says it's "all purpose" for different types of lawns but, checking the label and Ortho's website, it expressly says "do not use on St. Augustine" Edit: Just checked Lowe's and they *do* have a version that is specifically for St. Augustine turfs-just goes to show that you have to be careful and make sure the products are made for your lawn
@@cadetindell5365 just read the labels. I’ve used these products a lot year-round year in and year out for my Saint Augustine grass and I’ve never had issue. Just read the label properly. Follow directions and you’ll be fine. Basic requirements don’t do it when it’s 85° and up and it’s literally just one spray on the weed don’t overspray you’ll be fine.
George, I truly don't understand the logic behind "if you walk too slow, you're going to empty out your hopper." I could see that happening if there was a motor on your spreader that was constantly tossing out the granules at a steady rate regardless of your walking speed, but there's not. Instead, the wheels on the spreader and the dispensing mechanism are directly connected. If you stop walking, even if you keep the trigger handle depressed to keep the trap door open, the product stops coming out. Please explain. Honest question here.
Hi Anthony, your right the propeller is directly aligned with how fast you walk but that does not change the amount of product being broadcasted. The product free falls out of the hopper at the same rate whether you are in motion or not so if you walk to slow the free falling product will come out early
I just saw your weed killer video and just want to know if after you applied the herbicide, how long do you wait to water the product down? And how many days do you wait for your next mow?. Keep up the good content!!!
genuinely curious why your so dedicated to your lawn, do you do this for a living? it seems like a college level investment would love to see a video about what motivated you and why you love it ps your really awesome
Hi George....Love your videos. Question: Can I cover a large bare spot in my lawn with plastic and then spread pre emergent over the rest of the lawn so I can reseed bare spot after??
is it ok to put down tenacity with surfactant with a liquid sprayer directly before/after overseeding? which order is preferred and how long in between for this time of year? May/June
no sorry, poa is VERY hard to control, almost nothing will get rid of it, my best recomendation is to get a weed pulling tool and manual pull as much of it out as you can, also be sure to always bag your clippings especially when it starts to seed
Hello , Today I dug up our weed garden (previously scarified several times and removed all the weeds as best as possible). The pH is 7, possibly higher. Color from the test was slightly darker than the template. I want to mix in sand because the soil is quite “heavy”. Should I treat the soil now to bring the pH down? or how do I proceed now?

Hi Gwen! Only use the crabgrass preventer with lawn food. I just so happened to have both of those bags in this video, sorry I should have been more clear
One thing not mentioned is what the weed preventer also prevents: it prevents good grass seed from sprouting. So that product should be avoided if the plan includes seeding shortly after planned application of the weed preventer. I don’t use that product, but I believe the label says to not bother seeding until several months after application of that product.
Hi. I do similar steps. But every year I’m getting more and more of the wild onions. The bulbs are Soo deep when I try to dip them out. Do you have any suggestions?
Spectracide Weed Stop also contains Sulfentrazone which Wedd b Gone does not. Spectricide is overall a better product than Weed b Gone regardless of the .06% of additional 2,4D. Spectracide would be pretty close to a perfect product if they would replace the 2,4D with Triclopyr.
I have question? Does this Scotts Turf Builder product works on other weeds too? Our lawn got all other weeds too. I am not sure what to prevent it from getting new weed. Can I use Scotts turf builder triple Action? Please guide me.
George, I’ve noticed something from your past videos that I don’t think has a lot of info out there. How do you do conversions for turning your granular fertilizers into liquids? I see that you mix them with your drill but is the conversion the same per 1000 sq ft?
hi trevor, great question, the measurements are much different as you dont want to apply more than .15 lbs of Nitrogen per 1k sqft when spraying VS when you apply granular you can apply up tp 1 pound of N per 1k no problem as it breaks down slowly
Thank you so much. This makes a lot of sense. Applying .15 lbs of N through spoon feeding helps to reach that 4 lbs mark over the course of the season. I think I’ve got the math down for my ammonium sulfate at 20-0-0 which will require me to dissolve 12 ounces of granular fertilizer for every gallon of water per 1000 sq ft through my sprayer.
Need help. I am not able get any of the good professional herbicides like Pylex, 3-way Max, Select Source Triad, Speed Zone, Celsius, etc since I live in California. I have Tall Fescue lawn and all the rest of weeds you can name. What to do?
I just bought a new construction house and the sod they laid is terrible. It's got brown patches everywhere and has tons of crabgrass. It's Bermuda grass and I'm in North Texas. What would you recommend? I'm not sure what you can do to new sod :/
i recommend watering it deep twice a week (most important thing you can do) and use a general purpose fertilizer like this: amzn.to/3UlKAZe as for the crabgrass you can use the ortho pruct we used in this video to spot treat it. but as a warning do not use the blue bag of scotts halts we used in this video on new sod as it can cause root pruning to the new grass

Hey George, great video as usual. Would I need to forgo this fertilizer crabgrass treatment if I’m reseeding to avoid it from preventing the new grass seed from germinating?
Thanks Josh! Yes do not use any of these products if you plan on seeding
Just grab a seed safe pre emergent and you'll be good.
@@mikes2687 do you recommend anything specific?
@@PrincessCutLawnCare can you recommend a seed safe pre-emergent?
@@joshb-8810 yes, this: amzn.to/3xT7nD9
works amazing
Augustine"
Edit: Just checked Lowe's and they *do* have a version that is specifically for St.
Dad Rock has completely taken over Home Depot’s play list.
😂💯
How would you do that if you plan to overseed grass as well? Should you start with herbicides or overseeding?
do not use the scotts halts if you plan on overseeding, the ortho weed be gone can be used after you mow your new baby grass at least 2 times
Damn, i just bought a big bad of Scotts weed and feed. I enjoy your videos and subscribed
i would advice to return the weed n feed and use this method, it will work much better
and thanks for the sub! you the man!
I just saw your weed killer video and just want to know if after you applied the herbicide, how long do you wait to water the product down? And how many days do you wait for your next mow?.
Keep up the good content!!!
Quick question, could I completely cover my lawn with a post emergent after fertilizing? Or should I wait a few days?
yes thats no problem at all 👍
actually the fertilizer can help boost the herbicides effects
@@PrincessCutLawnCare thank you, sir.
genuinely curious why your so dedicated to your lawn, do you do this for a living?
it seems like a college level investment
would love to see a video about what motivated you and why you love it
ps your really awesome
Hi George....Love your videos. Question: Can I cover a large bare spot in my lawn with plastic and then spread pre emergent over the rest of the lawn so I can reseed bare spot after??
is it ok to put down tenacity with surfactant with a liquid sprayer directly before/after overseeding? which order is preferred and how long in between for this time of year? May/June
Yes you can apply tenacity any time before, during or directly after overseeding 👍
Will the stuff you mentioned a rid of blue grass (poa) because that’s what I am battling with. Thank you.
no sorry, poa is VERY hard to control, almost nothing will get rid of it, my best recomendation is to get a weed pulling tool and manual pull as much of it out as you can, also be sure to always bag your clippings especially when it starts to seed
Hello ,
Today I dug up our weed garden (previously scarified several times and removed all the weeds as best as possible).
The pH is 7, possibly higher. Color from the test was slightly darker than the template.
I want to mix in sand because the soil is quite “heavy”.
Should I treat the soil now to bring the pH down? or how do I proceed now?
you can treat it any time before or after
@@PrincessCutLawnCare thanx
Hi, in this video you have suggested a different Scott product as fertilizer but then in video where you recommended not to use weed and feed, you recommended Scott’s turf builder. Which one to use?
Great video. When is the best time to do this?
Any time the grass is growing
Did the discontinue Sta Green natural fertilizer. Out of stock forever from all of my local Lowes
really? not that im aware of, will have to check next time were there
Are the 2 bags of Scott's different?
they both contain the weed preventer, the only diference is one contains fertilizer and the other doesnt, sorry i should have been more clear
Lawns looking good George!
Thanks buster! It’s finally starting to wake up this season 😊
I used spectracide spray and the seeds for my lawn it’s full of weeds on Monday. I don’t see any changes. Should I do what you did in this video ?

I also bought a bag of Ammonium Sulfate and a bottle of Tenacity

Both 👍
Thanks for sharing! Does dethatch need to be done prior to all these?
How often do I apply the water and fertilizer? Is it daily or every few days?
every 30-45 days during the growing season
One thing not mentioned is what the weed preventer also prevents: it prevents good grass seed from sprouting. So that product should be avoided if the plan includes seeding shortly after planned application of the weed preventer.
I don’t use that product, but I believe the label says to not bother seeding until several months after application of that product.
Yes, do not seed when using
@@PrincessCutLawnCare How long should I wait before overseeding?
Do you recommend doing this over tenacity/speedzone?
Depends how bad your weeds are. I tend to use speedzone and tenacity for salvage situations where there is more weeds than grass
can I put down the halts in mid summer? what temperature range?
Great videos. You got me rollin.
How long after applying DEF to my lawn can I add Turf Builder?
How much def did you apply?
4:06 that scale looks happy
Thanks for the measure my lawn website.
No problem scott! Good luck with your lawn this season
i can’t believe you fooled me with the discord notification sound 🤣

What to do?
It’s about to be august here in Texas is it best to do the grass in the morning or night?

@@PrincessCutLawnCare ok cool. I saw it was only $15 at Costco the other day. Going to pick some up. Thanks
I just bought a new construction house and the sod they laid is terrible. It's got brown patches everywhere and has tons of crabgrass. It's Bermuda grass and I'm in North Texas. What would you recommend? I'm not sure what you can do to new sod :/
i recommend watering it deep twice a week (most important thing you can do) and use a general purpose fertilizer like this: amzn.to/3UlKAZe
as for the crabgrass you can use the ortho pruct we used in this video to spot treat it.
but as a warning do not use the blue bag of scotts halts we used in this video on new sod as it can cause root pruning to the new grass
@@PrincessCutLawnCare I've done some digging and I actually landed on Tenacity as a weed killer. I know 2-D would've worked better for crabgrass but I liked the pre-emergent of the Tenancy. Great content. quick question. if i'm pre-germinating my grass seed, how long after i put the seed on the ground that i should use the pre-emergent and weed killer? im seeding bald patches and overseeding the rest of the lawn.
Id get a seed safe pre emergent and get it down now with your seeds. Dont get a weed/feed because it cant tell the difference from new seed/weeds.
Can’t use pre-em & seed at the same time.
