    Another great video Ron. Your recommendations regarding selective and non-selective herbicides are great. I see some of the questions and responses you're getting are specific to different geographical areas. Perhaps helpful to recommend to the audience to contact their local ag extension office for help in identifying proper timing of when to apply specific products. I've found the local Master Gardeners on staff are very helpful and can also make product recommendations for my area.

    Ron your videos are super informative. I'm in Georgia with about 9ksqft of Bermuda. About a month ago, I treat my completely dormant Bermuda with Prodamine and Image. Used a sprayer, followed your recommendations. ** Now , the thing is, there was Poa already hanging out in my lawn...so I'm sure the Prodamine soaked in but that stubborn grown tall PoAnna, just "ate it" ( ate that Image-I feel like, smh)**
    So last week I cut my lawn to down about 1 inch. I have thatch issues too, but that's another story ( smh)...I "Chopped them Po-Heads, right off!" But, guess what - they're back....waving Hi to me every time I step outside.
    I've read that Negate is a good herbicide for Po. I purchased the 1.5 oz bottle. I mixed it following the instructions from the manufacturer (Poored entire bottle into gallon of water for base. And I am set to mix 3 ounces of that per gallon per 1k..Cool)
    Now, my grass is still in dormant mode on many sections, except for Po-- he's fully grown and alive. There are some green bermuda patches here and there n my lawn...
    My question, should I wait until after full green up before hitting Po with that heavy Negate spot treatment and just keep on cutting lawn down to 1" every week?
    Or should I just hit the Po now even in this transition, spring up?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 года назад +2

      Hi Art. I would wait until the lawn is greened up before applying the Negate. Be sure to also use a surfactant with it for best results. If you apply it now, you're likely to slow green up. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

      @willznc 3 года назад +1

      @RonHenry  3 года назад +2

    Hey Ron, first I want to say great channel!! Perfect information for lawn care rookies like myself! I have a question, I planted blackjack bermuda seed late March, its coming in decent but I have a lot of weeds. What is your opinion on getting rid of weeds in the lawn for new grass? Will it damage immature bermuda?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +6

      Heya Julian. Given that you've recently made the investment in planting new Bermuda, I'd do my best to keep herbicides off the turf. Once the new grass is fully established, you can use Spectracide but until then, I'd just weed manually. I know it's a huge pain, but it's the safest option for the turf. It's what I did for my lawn when I overseeded. Thank you Ron for a very informative video! I wished I would've watched this before applying Spectracide weed stop granules. The bag itself does not instruct recommended temperatures for when to apply and I applied it when it was 99 degrees Fahrenheit. O'well, I guess I have to wait for result to see if I have to re spread on better temperatures.

      Hi Mgz_ Once you kill the weeds, just start mowing your lawn regularly. That will get rid of the dead weeds and also stimulate new growth in the grass. If you'd like a good starter fertilizer for a recovering lawn, this is a great choice: golfcourselawn.store/products/12-12-12-starter-fertilizer-with-3-iron-and-bio-nite™-granular-lawn-fertilizer After the fertilizer application, just mow, mow and mow some more. Thirty years ago when we bought this house there were lots of weeds and the grass looked sick. First thing we did was get a soil test done. The previous owner had been using chem Lawn. The lawn was green but sick. There was no potash whatever. I put 0-0-60 down. Spent countless hours pulling Dandelions, and used Weed be Gone . Spiked airated like crazy. Limed like crazy as the PH was like 4. We applied Fleet Farm 27-7-7 granulated fertilizer with iron. I still take soil tests every other year. I try not to use pesticide. I've found Tenacity for spot weeding. I have the best lawn in town, at least that's what I've been told. Weeds don't like a thick healthy lawn.

    Hi Ron. This is the second video that I'm watching. I gave a thumbs up and hit the subscribe button from the first video. Great content and love the delivery. I'm in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the weeds were out in force this year. I like the information you provided and for full on lawn care and tackling the weeds, I'm going to try the third product you recommended. I'll see if I can get it from Home Depot first and if not, then Amazon. I was thinking to apply it in the spring; which the time they recommend putting down fertilizer. We do have fertilizer that is laid in the fall so to nourish the lawn through the winter and then early spring we fertilize again. So, what do you think? Thanks again and take care.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 года назад +3

      Hi Stacey. You should hopefully be able to find the products shown at your local Home Depot. They're fairly common. Something else you may want to consider is pre-emergent. It's a special herbicide that's applied twice per year (spring and fall) that prevents the weeds from germinating in the first place. I have a video here that talks about different options and how to use it. ruclips.net/video/p1sazlEXAXc/видео.html Hope this helps. Really appreciate you watching. Thanks for watching the support.

    Hi Ron. I laid down a couple bags of spectracide Recently in my lawn to help with a crabgrass problem. The bag mentioned not being able to lay grass seed for 10 weeks. How soon have you tried to plant grass seed after using Spectracide. Your videos are really helpful. Thanks a lot!

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +3

      Heya Ryan. I would really wait the 10 weeks on the grass seed. Depending on which type of grass seed you're putting down it probably represents several hundred dollars. If you spread it before the 10 weeks is up, you'll likely get some germination but not as good as if you'd waited. If you want to still give it a go, I'd recommend doing a really good aeration of the lawn prior to spreading the seed. This will damage the pre-emergent barrier making it less effective against preventing germination. Does that make sense?

    • @spchief
      @spchief 4 года назад +1

      That does make sense. I bought some Arden 15 seeds that I hoped to plant this year but I think 10 weeks probably takes me completely out of season for growing new grass. Is there anything that you recommend that I can do in the meantime that might be helpful for growing new grass using seed next year?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +2

      Hi Ryan, I'd work on getting the soil as healthy as possible. So do a soil test assuming you haven't as yet and make the amendments to get the soil into primo shape. www.mysoiltesting.com/shop?aff=11 Again, you *can* overseed this year but I'd be sure to aerate heavily before doing so in order to make the pre emergent less effective. 👍😎

    Great video, Ron. Quick question: I noticed that Spectracide Weedstop has a concentrated liquid formula as well as a hose sprayer version. Are these acceptable alternatives like the granular version, or do they have the same downsides as the liquid agents you discuss?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  2 года назад +6

      Hi Arie. Yes, the liquid concentrates work well while not having to apply to wet grass like the granular. If getting rid of existing weeds is your main goal, I'd go with liquid vs granular. An alternative to Spectracide that's professional strength is this product: golfcourselawn.store/products/broadleaf-weed-control-triad-select-3-way-herbicide Hope this helps.

    P.S. I have an huge area on my driveway in the backyard that has been taken over by all different types of weeds (even those prickly ones) after the tree next door at a rental until has been cut down last year. This year the weeds have spread almost the entire width and I am about to use a weed puller and dig them up completely. I was gonna use a weed killer that last up to a year, but I don't want birds and squirrels to become sick and die from coming in contact with the area, so I was thinking of going the homemade vinegar and soap method and then pin down a heavy duty landscape weed barrier to hopefully help keep them from regrowing. Any tips at how to kill these off permanently? Or do you think because the tree stump is still there, the weeds will just continue to return every season?

I’m curious how long this discoloration will last? Is this something I can mitigate with proper fertilization? Thanks. Take care!

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +2

      Heya Bailey. It will last about 1 week assuming that your turf is healthy. I hate that particular side effect of Image but the product really does work great against nutsedge. The big thing is to not over apply the product. Literally all you need is one pass over the nutsedge. No need to soak the area. Using a liquid fertilizer will probably help the lawn recover a bit faster. Granular takes longer to break down so by the time it starts working your turf will like have recovered anyways. A good liquid option is this: amzn.to/2WRaPrI It's very similar to Brandt Supreme Green product I apply in this video: ruclips.net/video/uedc-v-lnbY/видео.html Let me know if I can help with anything else! 😎👍

    I’ve always had a yard to be proud of until purchasing a pre owned home in central Texas. My lawn is St Augustine with some Bermuda. The lawn is more with Dallisgrass than actual grass. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please help!

      Hi kkdor6. Unfortunately, there's not really a selective herbicide that will kill Dallisgrass that's labeled for use on residential lawns. Your best bet is to physically remove it by digging it out. Hope this helps.

      Thank you for your reply. There is so much it would be impossible to dig up. Would killing the entire lawn with a product like roundup then laying new sod work?

    I am attempting to rid flat purslane from an established Bermuda grass lawn. I am weed wacking close to ground surface and then will add patch seed with mulch. There are several vegetable gardens and would not like to cancel them because of chemical weed killers. If this does not work, I will try cider vinegar.

      Sounds like a plan Patricia. That should do it. 👍😎

    Thanks for the video, and I agree that RoundUp is super harsh, in fact it is harsh for the environment snd bad for your health so, I wouldn’t use that junky product at all, instead there are products like Avenger Weed Killer or Bonide Dead Weed Brew, to kill anything instead. Again, thanks for the video and info!

      Thanks for chiming in Mike. Agree that you want to avoid it if at all possible. Definitely wear the right PPE if you’re going to use it.

    Great video. We just moved to Kentucky, and i have two acres plus. I just got a pull behind spreader 150 pounds. I am going to start this process. Any recommendations?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  8 месяцев назад +2

      Depends on which weeds you're trying to control. I wouldn't use big box store products to treat 2 acres. Wouldn't be cost effective.

    Nice, informative video. Could you please make a video step by step when to do it (fall, spring). Steps to do it. And it would be easier see how you do it and result at the end.

      I Irina. I have an application calendar in my course golfcourselawn.com. If you'd like to get an idea of what's in the calendar, the end of this blog post covers some of what I cover: golfcourselawn.store/blogs/news/step-by-step-guide-for-getting-a-golf-course-lawn

    Thanks Ron, I'm going to give it a try. If the weather is in the 70s possibly 80s how long does the weather have to stay in that range for both speed zone-tenacity or celsius/certainty to work.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  2 года назад +1

      Hi Steve. I would not use Tenacity on Bermuda, Zoysia, or any other warm season grass. It's a herbicide designed for use on cool season turf. Celsius / Certainty is for warm season. Tenacity and whatever you mix with it is for cool season.

    Nicely done. Very well articulated. I now know what I should probably get but still some hesitancy I do bear. Just outta curiosity, is the spec product safe for us with well and septic? And also how long after can one apply fertilizer on lawn after the weed killer?
    Thanks in advance

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  Год назад +2

      Thanks Lemmy K. While you should be fine, I wouldn't spray within 8 feet of the well just the minimize chances. You could fertilizer and apply weed killer on the same day if you wanted to. I would apply fertilizer before applying herbicide. Hope this helps. Very informative. Please add to your lawn care tips, pets. I'm always interested on how quickly I can let my dogs and cats and chickens on my lawn. I'm trying Scotts® Weed Control for Lawns. Bought it before I saw your video. I'll let you know how it works!!

      Hi Joan, In most cases it's safe for pets to re-enter the lawn on the following day. Water in the product and keep the fur babies off the lawn until the following day. 😎

    Hello.. I am new to gardening. Thank you for this video. When trying to grow your grass do you recommend using this platform or after the planting of grass seeds?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  Год назад +1

      If you plan is to plant grass seeds, I would not use the granular product. It contains an ingredient that will prevent the seed from germinating. Check this out for other options: golfcourselawn.store/blogs/diy-lawn-care/best-products-for-killing-weeds-without-killing-grass
