DON’T Use Weed & Feed!!! *USE THIS INSTEAD*

- Thinking about using Weed & Feed? WATCH THIS.
Weed and feed is a type of lawn fertilizer that contains both herbicides and fertilizer. While it may seem like a convenient solution for maintaining a healthy and weed-free lawn, the truth is that weed and feed is the least effective way to apply weed control to your lawn.
Firstly, weed and feed products contain herbicides, which are designed to kill weeds. While these chemicals can be effective at eliminating weeds, the mode of action weed and feed uses is not t effective. Weed and feed requires you to spread granular herbicide across a wet lawn. Granular herbicide is not as effective as using a liquid herbicide. In this video, I recommend using an alternative herbicide called Ortho Weed Be Gon which is a liquid herbicide and is much more effective
Furthermore, weed n feed products can have negative impacts on the environment. When you apply these weed & feed to your lawn, you broadcast it across your whole lawn, even to areas that don’t need weed control. Using an alternative liquid herbicide will allow you to spot treat weeds instead of broadcasting everywhere.
Another issue with weed & feed products is that they often contain high levels of nitrogen which is essential nutrients for plant growth. However, if these nutrients are applied in excess, they can cause harm to your lawn. Its very easy to burn your lawn with weed and feed as it contain both a high amount of herbicide and a high amount of nitrogen.
In conclusion, weed and feed products may seem like a convenient solution for maintaining a healthy and weed-free lawn, but the truth is that they can be harmful to the environment and your health. Instead of using weed and feed products, consider using a separate dedicated liquid herbicide and a dedicated fertilizer.

poor results, never really worked for me. spot treatment is much better.
Never had a problem because I applied early am when grass was wet with dew. If you have a yard full of weeds it can make sense.
Failure. I got some very expensive illegal stuff that killed CrabGrass first shot and did not harm lawn grass.
I have been using it for years without issues, I personally love it and I don't find it messy like you make it seem to be ....
@@gordbaker896 lol nice
I absolutely love this guy's non biased opinion, right or wrong. He tells you Scott's weed and feed sucks and at the same time , tells you Scott's fertilizer is the best thing you can buy at the big box store. I can trust people like this. Subscribed!
Haha thanks for the sub man!
And yeah Scott’s products are great just not the weed n feed lol
So does he or does not recommend it?
@@matteoc7084 He recommends one of their products but not the other. That's the point.
I just did the Scott’s Weed and Feed and got incredible results…grass growing like spinach and it wrecked all the chickweed and dandelions. Use a drop spreader on damp, early morning grass so it sticks 👍
Just bought mines….i hope mines works as well.
I’ve been using weed and feed for years and it works as advertised.
It definitely works, no doubt about that
Me too! But,.next year I'll definitely try this method.
Drop spreader vs a broadcast spreader works best in my experience also. Pain in the ass but better results.
@@g2theb584 yep,
It sure does!
I’ve used Turf weed & feed in my yard for the past years with great results. The trick I’ve done is I do this early in match and during and will apply it dry or wet in my established yard. Usually I do before I know rain is coming and do at least twice and sometimes heavy and that will carry my yard for the rest of the year and my grass is super thick (high) and weed free
You channel stands out not just because of the great advice, but also because of the slow motion video of you applying the product to the lawn.
i have the second nicest lawn on the block, and i use weed and feed. the best lawn has a retired property owner and he can spend all day on his lawn. so its worked pretty well for me. me and that guy are the only two houses with zero dandelions.
I don’t know what my yard looks like compared to everybody else’s cause I just don’t care
Do you apply it as a pre emergent before weed grows or after. What time in the year do you apply?
@@dozie6650 definitely before. As soon as the weather starts to warm up put it down.
. Awesome. Thank you for this. Do you do it twice a year. Like March-April and Oct-Nov?
@@dozie6650 you certainly could, but I just do it in early spring and have no weeds the rest of the season.
I always wear safety glasses when using a sprayer as well. I accidentally hit the pressure relief valve once and was glad I had the glasses on.
From a fellow Chicagoan, thank you George. I never had it explained with the lawn needing to be saturated but that makes total sense. You just talked me out of it!
No problem neighbor!
Good summary. Weed and Feed does a little bit of weeding and a little bit of feeding but isn't very good at either one. Much better to do each task individually
Ive started using a drop spreader instead of a broadcast. There is less mess. You will put down the proper rate regardless of how fast or slow you walk. And you wont stripe the lawn and you ensure every square inch get of the lawn gets proper coverage. My lawn has never looked better. Ive also mounted my spray bottle to my rider, that way i can spot treat as i mow.
I use BOTH. A Scott 3 n 1 and the Ortho spray. The Ortho goes down first. Now with the lawn wet, i drop the Scotts 3 n 1. It now sticks to the weed leaves as they are damp. These works great and between the two, clears up stubborn weeds like Creeping Charlie in no time as well as feeding my lawn. Indeed since starting this approach my lawn is nearly weed free and is so thick it essentially just crowds out everything else.
As a landscape Pro, you know people give me money for how nice I keep their yard, Scott's is the best. Early spring and then again in July and you will never have weeds and your grass grows! The part about water was just nonsense, just keep watering your lawn it all works out.
Oh LORD!!!! Finally, found a video that's easy to understand and easy to do! I felt very defeated end discouraged watching those other videos until i saw this one! Now I'm goning to home depot tomorrow and getting these products. Thanks for making this video ! I'm subscribed !
Man I just used Scotts weed and feed on my front lawn 2 weeks ago. It has worked good for me in the past. But I do like the way that you described. I'll have to give it a try on the back yard. Thanks.
I’ve used it a couple seasons here in the south and always works well. I don’t wet the lawn, I do it before the sun comes up in heavy dew. Thanks!
very helpful , Im restoring a lawn that was not taken care of...I over seeded last late august and it turned nicely green and filled in by october. Springtime now and looking to bring it to golf course level and will use this method
your videos are quick and to the point , thank you for not wasteing our time!
Appreciate that Pascal!
Another excellent little nugget of lawn care knowledge. Thank you George.
Appreciate you Rich 🙏
Wow I have been browsing about lawn care for roughly last 3 days.. being new to canada and hvng a new home for first time I was clueless what and when to DIY .. thnk god I found this and it was exactly what I need. Thank u
I have explained to several people that weed and feed only works if it sticks to the leaves of the weed plants. The directions on the bag explain that as well. Apparently at least the people I have spoken to about it, will always disagree, they know better. Personally I will not use it because it is an overload of herbicide to continually apply herbicide to an entire lawn. I spot spray the weeds.
haha if i had a dollar everytime someone said they applied it and watered it in right away
I agree! I've had much better luck with the liquid Ortho than any other weed and feed in pellet form. Thanks for sharing.
No problem Paul! and great to hear!
I typically use a liquid herbicide early in the season but then supplement the first fertilizing with a Weed and Feed before switching to just a fertilizer for the rest of the season. Live in a very windy area and as long as my neighbors take care of their lawn, once they've all got their herbicide going we don't see much for weeks beyond the occasional clover.
States are not cutting the highway grass like they used to due to fuel costs..........dandelion seed plumes abound! Like shoveling against the tide to keep weeds down anymore.
Dandelions are edible!
Year 3 of weed and feed. Few weeds and lots of green .8 acres. Neighbors use pro lawn care but they always ask me who or what I use to care for my lawn. I do spot weed during the year in some areas.
I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH..I’ve been using liquid and dry granulated Weed and feed, but never knew the yard had to be wet when using granulated. I do agree the liquid app is easier and now you e helped me realize it’s time to STOP messing with that dry messy stuff!! Thanks you..gotten the hose connection bottles and walking tall!!!
This video is probably the best, most concise, to-the-point, and well done I have seen. You don't mess around dude, thank you for not wasting anyone's time. Great info!
Appreciate that dale!

Came here to say exactly this. I've watched a lot of lawn videos and this video is excellent!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Weed and feed with crabgrass pre emergent works great. I use it every year and my lawn is beautiful
Scott’s halts is good stuff
Baking soda works great on crabgrass also
This is the most informative video on getting rid of weeds. Thank you.
I used Scott triple it did a excellent job no complaints. The bag was $85 with tax. Even if it's a little messy just wash your clothes after.
Love your videos man! Just starting my lawn care journey and these help a ton
Thanks for the nice comment boss! good luck with your new hoddy!
Good luck on your journey. Last year I started taking it serious. When they say it takes patience, it really does. I follow George and Ryan. Between the two, I was cutting professional stripes in my yard by September of last year.
If trugreen did their job I wouldn’t need this stuff
I agree. Trugreen sucks.
I did lawn dr. For 3yrs, i have the same weeds in the same spots.
I dont care to call back for more treatments. Should be done 1st time.
This is Michael. I've been doing my own long for 35 years and for the first 30 bonus S Weed and Feed worked fine. Now it stinks. They weakened the fertilizer AND the weed killer so you have to buy more. I have to do it an extra time each spring and fall for it to work as it's supposed to. I'm quitting bonus S weed and feed. Using Image weed killer with atrazine
Ive been using weed and feed and now i use pool ph test strips to measure the ph of my grass soil. Ocassional wood ash mixed with water works well.
George, I happened on this video and you answered the pressing issues I am going to deal with today in my own lawn. Thank you for your concise explanations, getting to the point, and showing how it is all done. Hats off to you!
Used it for years and have the best yard on the block. I’m definitely a Scott’s product user and in my opinion you can’t go wrong.
scotts snaps for real, they have great products but IMHO weed and feed is not safe for beginners
We tried Scott's this year WITH GREAT RESULTS...
@@PrincessCutLawnCare It's only unsafe if you don't read the directions.
I stopped buying Scotts years ago. I felt like every time I applied Scotts I had other problems and needed another Scotts product. I was buying my new stuff from a local grass guy and then found Site One. Put your pre emergent down early to help with weeds and spot spray as needed. I use different things for spot spraying. Don't forget adding lime if the PH needed it. The best thing I ever did to my back yard was dethatching. Every 2 or 3 years. Add fertilizer and hold green lush grass.
Thanks for sharing
I’ve used weed and feed in a bottle that you attached to a garden hose. You turn the water on and the bottle of weed and feed acts like a nozzle so that you can spray it on the yard. Used it once and it worked great.
Thanks for the video. I’m the opposite when it comes to fertilizer. I specifically buy Lesco fertilizer because of the larger granules. The granules are heavier which means they get thrown further distance by the spreader. That’s important if you have a Scotts spreader. Most people will tell you they hate their Scotts spreader because it doesn’t properly distribute the fertilizer. That does not happen when you use Lesco granules in a Scotts spreader.
Great tip about the lesco gettin the Scott’s spreaders! I did not know that.
Personally I like my Scott’s hand spreader much more than their broadcast spreader
I only use Lesco starter fertilizer, so you can seed anytime you want..............
Good job George .. love the production and info in your videos 👍
Thanks Terry! Appreciate you
Really good information, I have been in the dark with proper lawn care and now i can proceed.
Thanks and good luck 👍
My preferred method is to spray Pasture Pro. It's supposedly safe even if there are animals grazing on the area when sprayed. It works pretty well. Maybe not the best but it does work and it's fairly benign to wildlife.
Thanks, George! Following you again this season! Just curious if you are going to do a video on the new sod install and the maintenance for the first few weeks thereafter.
Appreciate that Shoaib! I dont have any sod projects to film content about unfortunately.
Did you just have sod installed?

Good advice for SMALL lawns. However, my lawn is larger. If I have significant weeds that little pump spreader is a waste of time. Go with a hose sprayer.

I walked backwards when I applied the Weed and Feed to keep from getting it on myself and stepping in it. A few weeks after application, my neighbors were commenting about how green my lawn was.
That’s smart!
That's smart! Never thought to do that. I'll have to try that!
Just a few advantages of using these 2 products are that Ortho's lawn weed killer concentrate has the highest concentration of 2,4D out of all the lawn weed killers. Also, The Scotts lawn fertilizer is one of the few fertilizers that also has "Iron" as a ingredient which helps with greening up your lawn. 24 year HD associate here. This video is spot on.
Also, be careful with the lawn weed killers......they are temperature sensitive and consistent temps over 90 may actually damage your lawn.
Your videos are very informative and to the point. I subscribed just for that. The fact you explain why things work and why things don't work for you is really good.
Key words: "In excess"
When directions are followed, these products are safe and somewhat effective.
And of course those among us who take our lawn care to higher levels would never just use one general product. Liquid weed killers for regular spot treatments is a given.
Excellent video as usual, thanks!
Thanks Ian and totally agree!
You prefer the synthetic over organic? Are you sticking with this Scott’s or are you going to experiment
@@bluejay3945
What I do is a hybrid plan by mixing the Scott's turf builder with milorganite. This provides the early season high nitrogen with the slower steady release of the organic product.
This "one two punch" system is working for me so far.
@@ianmackenzie686 thank you but I’m not pulling the trigger on synthetic especially since it’s a Russian product

Another great video George. I find it’s more cost effective to fertilize and treat weeds separately. Never had any luck with the granular weed and feed, actually fried my lawn pretty bad. The liquid weed and feed that you attach to your hose isn’t bad, but still prefer separate applications.
Thanks Boss!
Most people misuse weed and feed… often by applying it too late in the day.
All weeds are not the same.
Big TMK I have some areas of the property that I'm trying to get the grass to continue to come in, expand from the rest of the yard and I'll use it as areas to let the horse graze. I am not going to break the bank or really spend a significant amount of money and would rather let it grow in naturally. What I've done was pull up as much weeds as I can and feel like lol and use an old school slang blade to sling small trees/shrubs and loppers to cut the one's that are a little thicker, I cut those down close to the ground. I think that once the grass starts taking over then it'll choke out those roots of the small trees and I'll continue to sling them down anyway. From what you just said though what do you think would be the best combo to use or thing to do and again I'm not trying to beautify my actual yard/lawn but just get the grass to come up evenly for the most part or decent then it'll be fine. Trying to give it a little boost I guess. I also think I need to give it attention in the fall as well as the spring to help it out but for now this late in the game what might be best to do, and spring fall recommendations?
@@PrincessCutLawnCarequestion: once the weeds die and it’s time to throw down turf builder, how do I know the turf builder will match my type of grass? I live on the west coast, Washington state.

Got some Scotts lawn build + weed killer. Just scattered the fertilizer on by hand. It did say leave for 24 hours before watering in. So gave it a soaking a day later.
I have moved on from weed and feed products many years ago. They do work if you apply properly as instructed which most homeowners dont do. I do agree that scotts makes a high end quality fert. The prill size is primo. Some brands are like spreading rock salt like YM. Once i deplete inventory i will be using some basic fert such as Urea and AMS. My lawn will look incredible regardless whether a 10 bag or 100 bag. Its more about passuon and effort to acheiving goals. Watxh my ProVista KBG project. Ah last video said only about 5 people in the US have it. Well im 1 of 2 that grew it from seed. It will be a showcase and will apply nothing special once current invenoty is gine. Good video and glad your back.
Thanks man, I saw that video too. Is you pro vista brown now like jakes?

Great content George! Your videos are on point and easy to understand. Your channel is one of my go-to’s for lawn care!
Thanks mike! Means a lot!
Yes the bulk liquids are better than the RTS bottles because you can control the application rates more accurately. In the RTS bottles, there’s no way to tell how much product came out and whether the amount went on the requisite surface area.
I’ve used Scott’s weed and feed for years - quick and easy and I can get it right down the road. No weeds, best lawn on the block. 🤷🏻♂️

I hired a master arborist to come check out some ailing oaks in my yard. During his visit, he asked if I fertilize my lawn. “Yes”. Was it “Weed and Feed” by chance? “Yes.” “Please don’t do that again. Your trees have been affected by that product. It is better to use regular fertilizer across the yard, and spot treat the weeds rather than spreading a herbicide all over the lawn.” Also, the feed the mature trees, he used a post hole digger to put two foot deep holes around the drip line, and pour in a slow release high nitrogen fertilizer. My trees recovered in a couple of months.
Your arborist is a smart man
I tend to agree with this video, but if your lawn is big or completely full of weeds I would start with a weed and feed application at first and then spot spray weeds after they’re somewhat under control. Those sprayers can be hard on your back if you have to spray them a lot.
Holy Sh*t! What an excellent video. George, you are an excellent speaker! Straight up and to the point. You don't waste time. Lots of information in the shortest amount of time. Quick, precise and effective edits along with the cadence of your speech has resulted in an deftly delivered message. Keep up the good work! ...........and oh yeah, I agree, the application of Scotts weed and feed composed of relatively fine granules on a wet lawn results in a mess all over the rotary broadcast spreader and my shoes and socks. Sheeeeeesh! On another, somewhat unrelated note, what do you recommend / prefer to green up a lawn, a 28-4-10 65% Slow Release Fertilizer OR epsom salts - ( either braodcast granules or mixed with water and sprayed on the lawn )?
I give the same advice, from a 40 year greenskeeper. Great video.
The problem is it often isn't the right time to fertilize lawns when its the right time to kill broadleaf weeds. But sometimes I use it sparingly, only away from trees and shrubs.
Went to home depot looking to buy the weed and feed, and thought it out and thought it might be better to do them seperate.
I picked out the same products you did. Makes me feel a lot better about the choices!
How do you feel about the hose attached weed killers?
Great to hear!
i dont like the hose end sprayers for herbicides, i find its hard to dial them in enough to get even coverage.
herbicides require precise applications and the hose ends just cant do that properly.

Spectacular video man. Been researching for hours but you cleared it up easily
Weed and feed was banned in my part of the world (western Canada). I don’t miss the smell nor the dust, but it was convenient.
IMO it should be banned everywhere, not because it doesnt work but more because of the dust.
I stockpiled a lot after the Lieberals banned it.
Add an ounce or 2 of Vinegar to supress the smell.

Most lawn care videos show and recommend using liquid products mixed in a 2 gallon tank sprayer. If a guy is doing a large lawn, that's not happening. Buy the stuff in a hose attach spray bottle and do the whole thing easily.
This guy is correct. Stay away from weed and feed products because it not as effective, and your just wasting money. One thing he didn't mention and is key to your lawn care is to check your weather forecast because you want to avoid applying anything to the lawn if there is going to be heavy rain. Also, the temperature for the weed killer has to be in the optimal range to be the most effective.
How come no one uses a drop spreader anymore?
They are best optimized for seeding, not fertilizer as they can cause striping
Most people aren't smart enough to use one properly and no they do not cause striping, that's a myth , been using a drop spreader for decades and have never had an issue with using one

I like your unbiased explanation, also it looks like I spotted a heater in your garage, meaning you live in mas o menos the same climate as I am, subscribed.
Thanks my friend! We are in the Chicagoland area
Thank you George. I’m getting organized and have been following your advice. Instructions
Another major benefit to the non-W&F STB is the uniform granules.
Fertilizers have multiple ingredients, and nearly all of the lower quality fertilizers just build the ratios of the ingredients by a mix of granules from each. Urea or ammonium, iron, phosphates, potassium, etc., each in individual granules of different sizes and weights, all thrown into the bag at "proper" ratios. This can cause some of the granules to setting in the applicator during application, meaning some areas of the lawn get more of one ingredient than they should, without enough of others.
Scotts uses a uniform granule. ALL of their ingredients are chemically bonded at proper ratios, *then* ground into uniform single granules. You can visibly see this in the examples he shows at 4:43. Look closely and you'll see the different ingredient granules in the Lesco bag, while the Scotts bag is uniformly the same single granules, each of which has a proper ratio of the different ingredients to feed your lawn.
Here in southern California, I always recommend Scotts Ultra Feed for lawns because it contains slow release fertilizer and has a high nitrogen content (40-0-5). It lasts about 6 months. The native soil here contains plenty of potassium and one only needs to apply phosphorous once because it cannot be flushed out of the soil so the fact that the PK is low in this fertilizer is of no consequence. Scotts Turf Builder (32-0-4) contains less nitrogen and it is not slow release so it must be re applied more often.
never tried the ultra feed, gonna check it out
btw the turf builder is half slow release and half fast release
@@PrincessCutLawnCare Half? Scotts Turf Builder 32-0-4 contains 32 percent total nitrogen with 4.9 percent being ammoniacal nitrogen, 14.1 percent urea nitrogen, 11 percent other water-soluble nitrogen and 1.0 percent water-insoluble nitrogen. This product also contains 4 percent soluble potash, 7 percent sulfur and 2 percent iron. Nine percent of the product's contents contains slow-release nitrogen from methylendiurea, dimethylenetriurea and water-insoluble nitrogen.
Scott’s works awesome. Deep lush lawn and it takes out the dandelions. It’s was easier to use than liquids.
A few things I do is monitor wind direction and wear a pesticide respirator, gloves, long sleeves and pants. I stay upwind when spraying because this stuff is toxic.
Great advice! No such thing as too much ppe
If you live in warmer climate and have grass such as centipede or St Augustine be sure to get fertilizer that is appropriate or you can easily burn it. Many times it is labeled for southern lawns.
good tip

I always use Scotts Weed and Feed for “southern” lawns, St Augistine. I apply in March on a dry lawn and then hit the sprinkler system over night. I like to apply Spectricide granuals at the same time for the fire ants. I have the greenest and weed free lawn on the block. The weed and feed is a preemergant and does not work as well on established weeds. The Southern version is not messy as you desribed and quick and easy. It has a lot of nitogen to get the fast green in the spring and not good for rthe rest of the year because you will be making too much grass. I do not like weed sprayers, they are messy. If I have sprayed it is a gress edger type or a hose sprayer for the entire lawn. Once St Augistine kicks in it overtakes all weeds unlike northern lawns.
@@TexasEngineer Scott’s preemmergents are excellent products
HUGE TIP: PLEASE state...upfront.... the region of the Country each product should be used in. The Lawns in Upstate New York are far different than those in central Florida. Here in FL most homes with larger lawns are typically planted with St. Augustine grass....which my NY relatives call (and consider) Crabgrass and generally, a weed despite how green and lush. Yes, it's not the technical term but old Uncle Harry will kill his lawn and flowerbeds if he didn't have better knowledge of the predominately ornamental grass types by region.
Big box stores are stocking higher quality fertilizers now. Propeat and Anderson's are 2 examples. Both with small prills, propeat has homogeneous prills and Anderson's uses some carbon to assist in nutrient uptake.
I saw home depot started selling propeat online, thats awesome!
i have yet to try it, do you like it?
@@PrincessCutLawnCare propeat is a peat covered prill. It contains a homogeneous prill which I like and 2 prill sizes. The greens style is a very small prill. I used it this spring and like the results. Other thing I like is variety of content percentage so I can use what my lawn needs based on my soil test.
George, this is only the second videoof yours I've watched. I really liked the way you presented the details, the why's and why not - and your rational for making decisions. Bottom line - I learned a lot after thinking I already had a good knowledge b bae (since I'm 72).
The one area I would have liked to have heard - is seasonal frequency. What you described in this video was geared for spring. How about the other 3 seasons? Maybe you already have another video that speaks to that.
Also, I'd love to hear of your approach on thatching, rewarding, aeration and your suggestion for types and brand of seed to choose.
BTW - I live on Long Island ... My questions on seasonal approach.
Great video! I loved it! Rick
Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment blitz!
you can do these apps monthly during the growing season with no issues
i have videos videos on all the topics you discussed in my catalog feel free to check them out 😃
They have bottles you can apply to the hose from every manufacturer for weed killers, fertilizer and insect control. You don’t need a spreader or and pump sprayer. Check it out online or at your local home improvement store .
Easy to overspray on plants you don’t want to kill
@@DanielMeyer-ls5ph I use the ready to spray hose attachment all the time. You just have to pay attention and a how close you get to the plants you don’t want to kill. Not that hard.
Fantastic video. Appreciate the effort into making it!
Thanks Guy! appreciate you stopping by!
Good video...I always use Lazr Blue dye when spot spraying. That allows you to see new weeds that may pop-up and need treatment.
Great tip Pods! thanks for sharing!
I have without a doubt the greenest and thick lawn on the block, quess what I use Weed and Feed
But tripple action also kills crabgrass.
I stopped buying most Scott feed and seed products since they really don't work that well. Jonathan Green's Black Beauty Seed and fertilizer works far better.
I use it yearly..I see results in weeks.i love it
George, you rock! Thank you for the great advice. I once had a beautiful lawn but in the last 3 years, it's all types of weeds. I assume a lot of it is airborne because I use fertilizer and other products to prevent weed growth; any advice you can give will be appreciated. Thank you!!
No problem boss! what type of weeds are you facing?
@@PrincessCutLawnCare Besides dandelions and crab grass, I've got those "violets" that are weeds, not flowers, among others. They've even run into the gardens and my autumns have been horrific. i had considered getting a lawn service in to "nuke" my entire yard.
@@wetherby6774 dont nuke it! lol
apply this according to the label: amzn.to/3NUPyt4
it will smoke both your dandilions and violets
