      I see you're using a handheld spreader to spread the Sta Green fertilizer. What setting did you set the spreader? I have a Scotts EdgeGuard which according to the bag is set on 6. The bag doesn't list a setting for a hand held rotary spreader, I use a Scotts HandyGreen II. Do you know the setting I have 400 sq ft of lawn and the bag is good for 4000 sq ft.

      Typically, Milogranite does a good job! Did you use the right amount accordingly to the size of your lawn, and is the soil compacted that's preventing the nutrients to absorb into the soil? Check your soil! You may need to dethatch and aerate your lawn.

    Thanks for letting me know about this new option. I respectfully slightly disagree with a couple of things, though:
    1) The best way to determine if you should or should not be putting down Phosphorous or Potassium is with a soil test. Which leads me to:
    2) My soil (North Georgia) is actually fine on Potassium. What I'm actually lacking is Phosphorous.
    3) You may actually find that any given fertilizer has trace amounts of lead and/or arsenic.
    4) I have no issues with Milorganite being made from biowaste. It's actually digested by microorganisms, so it's not really like spreading manure on your lawn (even though plenty of gardeners use raw manure in their flower beds). It ends up being rich in carbon.

    Ive been using humic acid, sea kelp, fish fertilizer, on my front yard and it looks good i still have some bad spots along the sidewalk. Every time i would water along the sidewalk since my yard slopes down to it the water would just run off the grass and down the road. After using a lot of this stuff the water now just soaks into the ground. I saw the lawn amateur on RUclips using 32 ounces of humic on his yard ive started using 10oz of each on mine its starting to look even better my front yard is about 1250 square feet.

  • @MrZipperhead16
    @MrZipperhead16 Год назад +7

    Having Humic in it is the biggest plus to me. I put 2 bags of Humic DG on over all of last year but didn't see much for results; until this spring. Fast green up and the soil was just, well, fluffy. Holds water much better than ever before and it's a sandy soil. During the dry hot June we had I didn't have to water that much to keep it green, you really can't have too much humic. I'll pick up a bag and try it out.

    Happy 4th George!
    I just spotted the Sta-Green when I was picking up some of the Lesco fert that was on deep sale. Can't beat the Sta-Green price especially if it performs well. I'm a firm believer in Humic, biochar and kelp- it takes probably 6-8 wks, and you'll notice that your lawn just looks vibrant and healthy, especially when if the early season enthusiasm inputs are backed off. And when everyone else's is struggling during a drought, yours will stay green and dormant. I had a brand new lawn that stayed dark green well into January while here in NJ, probably because of my ongoing amendments into the soil last summer.

  • @heavymechanic2

    I been using sea Kelp for years in my garden, it really makes a difference on drought tolerance.. I used Milorganite and banded it in corn rows along with other synthetic fert, the corn looks amazing!.. In the past, I was using Weaver lawn fert and triple 13 in equal amounts on the lawn because Milo was just tooo expensive. The lawn looks great using more Phosphorus and Potash with lower inputs of N.. good to know the Sta-Green fert has comparable ingredients to the Next products. I been using the Sta-Green tall Fescue turf seed, I really like the darker green color.

I am a believer and I wish you had never made this video, so this fertilizer can keep a low profile and not run out or go up in price. 😩

  • @amigo4909
    @amigo4909 Год назад +3

    I like to see what new products are coming out, right now the Lowes in Salt Lake does not carry what you have introducing. The three numbers Nitrogen phosphate potash are only part of the tale to keep your lawn healthy; you have to have the right product with the right numbers and don't forget the micronutrients iron, magnesium, manganese, copper and Sulphur. Depending on your soil where you live, elevation and what is already in your soil just settling in on the newest fertilizer may not be the right for your soil. Have a sample of your soil sent for analysis. I have to choose a lawn fertilizer without potash since the soil in northern Utah already has enough. When I had my soil tested at Utah State Agricultural college I was slightly low on iron and nitrogen. To keep my lawn green and growing at an elevation of 4500 feet and dry hot temps I also have to gut my lawn at 3.5 inches high during June July and August.
    Look around for stores that specialize in selling fertilizer to landscapers and professionals and see what other products may better work for your soil. There is probably a college near you that leans agricultural that may have recommendations unique to your area and elevation.

    Good fertilizer. Some points to add: 1. 12.8% nitrogen is from Urea. So only around 3% from organic matter. 2. potash is from SOP which is better and expensive than MOP. 3. kelp and humic acid is only 0.5% 4. no iron in it. so you might not see wow green effect from it.

      It's because it used to cost like $8 or $10 per bag over 5-10 years ago. It was super cheap for the performance. They probably can't manage their costs, so it's priced the same as regular fertilizer now, if it's applied at their recommended heavy rate.

    With fertilizer end goals are a huge thing. P high is blooms and reproductive. Turf is not a high user like a vegetable garden or grain field (assuming no clipping removal). K is general health and roots. Very needed by all plants. Some soils are abundant some not. N is green growth but excess amounts and rapid release are nit required for turf. Grain crops are using more and more humic acid. Its has many benefits but it is a longer term play. I have a supplier making a shrimp product called catalyst. Most any organic material is good for turf. If compost was affordable it would be great to add an inch every 3-5 years.

    Hi George! Seeing your channel 1st time but I just also sub'd. I live near Houston, TX, and have San Augustine grass here. I'm really having issues with the grass plant leaves turning yellow in spots. Could I have a potassium deficiency? And if so, Milorganite won't solve it? Just bought my 1st bag of Milorganite to use, ever, but I think now I will switch to the Sta-Green. Love your channel, as my lawn and flower beds are a huge part of my life. Thanks for all he helpful ad5vice & suggestions. I will be watching your older videos , so I can catch up!

    This is a zero phosphorus 16-0-10 where milo is a zero potassium 6-4-0 product, so they don't compare exactly, still would use milo for a reno and seeding. This would be useful approaching or during summer and when there are phosphorus restrictions, and would give you some potassium that a lot of fertilizers lack.
    It has urea, feather meal, potassium sulfate in addition to sea kelp and humate.

    The primary nitrogen source is from polymer coated urea, which means it's not organic. The other ingredients are however. Feather meal, blood meal, wheat flour, pelletized gypsum, sulfate of potash. I wouldn't put it in the same class as Milorganite, and it might grab some Milo customers, but I doubt it kills Milo, lol. That said, it's good to see other companies finally starting to offer more natural fertilizer sources at a semi decent price point. We need more of this.

    Sta-Green quit making this product at this weight!!! They now sell it to cover 4,000 sq ft for the same price as when they sold it for 5,000 feet. This was a great product for the price but to cut it down 20% for the same price is a money grab. I hate companies that do this, so I’ll find something else.

The other half, I hope lawn RUclipsrs realize all of their hype videos drove up the demand and prices of Milorganite in the first place. Like many lawn products, it has its place but isn’t the only answer.
