Sees like a lot of knit picking to me. Allyn hasn't steered me wrong yet! I've literally learned the Deeper things about lawn care from LCN!!!! My lawn is looking it's best in over 20 years!!!! I'm standing with Allyn. Say what you want, he knows his stuff and he goes to great lengths to share his knowledge!! His products are great, but he even shares whenever possible, how to find comprable products in retail stores!✔️✔️✔️
Yes he has “steered you wrong.” Are you a professional groundskeeper? No. I thought so. Are you self employed in the lawn care business? No? That’s what I thought. Alan is wasting your time and money and that should piss you off. Stop stroking his already oversized & overinflated ego.
First things first: Allyn’s videos/methods are consistent in applying .75lbs of nitrogen at a time, a low dose by any measure. TruGreen typically treats between 1/1.5 lbs/1000. A few more issues with your “doors” 1. A couple of notes. The UT report you cited speaks mostly to cool season grasses. Zoysia is not. 2. The article you cite, from UT says “excess nitrogen fertilization…” can contribute. What is excessive? Certainly not .75lb/1,000? (Page 4) 3. In fact, the same report says: “Control: Adequate nitrogen fertilization and soil moisture levels will help prevent the development of dollar spot.” (Page 4) 4. In fact, AGAIN, it says: “Fertilizer should be applied in amounts to encourage uniform growth and avoid excess growth especially in the spring and summer.” (Page 6) 7. AGAIN, on page 7, from the very report you cite: “Control: Good soil and air drainage and low levels of nitrogen fertilizer will help reduce the severity of these diseases.” Man, you were so close. I know you figured folks wouldn’t check your citations. Did you even read them? But congrats on the clicks by trolling a big name on RUclips and siphoning off a few clicks!
@@tiffanywhite2121 Thank you. It’s about clicks. I can do a video milk doesn’t do a body good. Or why u don’t need 8 hours sleep. But if I can’t show how I implemented my theory and it worked, it’s all conversation. Show me his lawn and how the other guys methods are lies.
@@YoMamaBoyfriend007 i think the sources are cited normally in the description. Youre right though not a lot of these yt channels cite their soucres. In the future i hope yt cultural practices evolve to do that . we all got a lot of growing to do in the digital world.
The bag also contains carbon prills which is by no means cheap. One also has to consider convenience of carbon w/ the fert and what that cost to do. LCNs channel is geared towards beginners to intermediate. It's important for a beginner to start not being overwhelmed while at the same time obtaining results.
A higher amount of nitrogen as opposed to a steady amount of adequate nitrogen will not do anything unless the turf is under acute stress from heat, wind or an uneven ground surface. The need for more nitrogen in the early springtime is relative to the need for the turf to become physiologically active from a dormant state where it did not require as much. Iron oxide (if abundant enough) is also readily available once microbes have converted it to soluble iron, which does not take "decades" to do. It also hasn't been proven that foliage feeding of iron works all year round or when turf grass is under stress. A soil test is in fact the best way to find out what your lawn lacks nutrient wise, unless you know exactly what to look for in the leaves and roots of the plant itself. There are too many falsehoods surrounding ANY chemical fertilizer to rely on them to be ideal in any way (which is why organic gardening is the best way to go).
B/S... I have been following the LCN for years, and have employed many of his recommendations. All I can say is, people have stopped me while I'm mowing and said, "How do you get this SA so thick and green?" Thank you Lawn Care Nut. Keep it rolling. PS BTW... he gave the same advice and application strategies when he was exlusively using Milorganite. He was correct then and he's correct now.
I have always watched most of these lawn guys mostly for how to. Products are easy, directions on the bag, scotts makes it simple. Honestly my best results have been with Ammonium Sulfate, and drop Iron in the summer.
If you keep up with his channel, you will see him talk about pounds on the ground and getting into the math of the amounts of N, P, & K being applied. I have never heard him recommend doing more than a label rate. He’s essentially taking about ratios when he’s talking about having high N, and above a certain amount of K which is fair. You’re splitting hairs. My two cents: I would be more open to your ideas if you were creating your own content and not just knit picking others.
Concentration equates to an amount. The bottom line is, results = views. People watch LCN because the results are reproducible; which is the benchmark of efficacy in research.
@@Mariobicy recently allyn has suggested putting down N to fix turfgrass disease and that's what I've seen the most of lately, as an objective bystander.
The one thing that stuck with me are the "oxides" in a bag of fertilizer. That was something that I could apply to ANY bag of fertilizer and it was simple and to the point.
I’ve used flagship for a while and always get a dark green and healthy boost. I’ve used the summer stress blend and RGS, Humic 12, microgreen, air8 etc. my lawn has never looked nicer. Some of what you say might be somewhat true but I also buy from Yard Mastery because without his advice and that of others in the RUclips lawn care community I would still be scratching my head wondering what to do. Real men pay it forward and just don’t leech. And because I’ve gotten results I continue to buy. 😘
I'm 100% in agreement. The guy that runs this channel is a university type without much real world experience and has a snooty better than everyone attitude, which is typical of these type of people. He's jealous that Allyn was able to turn his knowledge and experience into profit. I'm not disputing what he's saying, but there is also anecdotal evidence (which he would shun) and my yard has never been greener, thicker, healthier...even through a summer of 4 weeks 100 degrees plus and minimal irrigation, my kbg stayed green. At Home Depot, a bag of 45 lbs Scotts turfbuilder is $48. Yardmastery Flagship is $55 and delivered to me. I don't mind paying a few bucks extra for convenience and to support a small business that's provided me a ton of value.
If you fertilize your lawn with Nitrogen, it will be healthy and green. His point is not that Allyn is selling snake oil, it's that you're paying way more than necessary for Flagship than a comparable fertilizer.
@@kcw131 A comparable fertilizer is scotts turf builder. $48 for 15k sq ft, so $6 cheaper than flagship...and it has clumps half the time and don't realize it until it's all that's left in the hopper. I'll pay a little more for higher quality delivered to my door and supporting a small business that provides value.
@@jacobmorissette2367 I've used both and have had superior results with ym. Not uncommon for scotts to have clumps that you dont realize until its at the bottom of the hopper. Genuinely curious why you think Scotts is superior in every way...
@rudolphleroux1666 No you are wrong. Alan is counterproductive and he is costing YOU time and money. Unless you are a professional groundskeeper or a self employed lawn care specialist, it is foolish and unnecessary to spend that much time and money on lawn care and lawn care products.
Nothing wrong with the label. Urea is water soluble nitrogen and allowed on the label as such. 6 units (aka 6%) of that is polymer coated (aka slow release)
Hes probably more worried about adding traffic to this page, and having to deal possibly with TT. I dont think ill ever trust another youtuber/company owner/salesman again. Too long youtuber salesmen have gone unchecked, and unregulated. Smh
@@tiffanywhite2121 there is alot of bad information out there and it is difficult to know who to trust. often each state has its own university extension office that can really help out homeowners that do not know who to trust. In FL we have these in each county.
I have watched the LCN for a long time and he didn’t make a dime off me when he first started. I went from buying a foreclosure with a weed bed for a lawn to having the nicest grass on the street. Explain how that happens if all The LCN says is BS? Plus if you’re going to talk about someone else why use a cartoon? Show yourself in your videos.
To be fair, Allyn Hane aka The Lawn Care Nut goes out of his way to explain how to calculate “pounds on the ground” in most of his videos, and does a great job of hand-holding new users in how to do that. Yes, he’s way oversimplifying fertilizer application in this particular video, but this example is not representative of the depth of teaching he has historically demonstrated for years. As a result this whole debunking video comes across as a petty cherry picking opportunity.
Calculating pounds of a nutrient/k and saying a higher number on a bag is better are two completely different things. Applying his flagship fert(24-0-6) at 3lbs/k compared to Milo(6-4-0) at 12lbs/k is the same amount of nitrogen but he's not saying that. He's saying the higher the N number on a bag is better in this video. I get what you are trying to say but those two things aren't actually the same.
@@krusej23 I agree with you. Him saying “higher numbers on the bag are better” is not good and it doesn’t teach the viewer how to properly use fertilizer. As I said, my criticism is based on cherry picking this one particular LCN video which is not at all representative of the years worth of content that Allyn has created to educate consumers on how to apply properly. Everyone makes mistakes once in awhile, but that doesn’t mean Allyn has been detrimental to the lawn care community or to consumers; in fact I would argue the opposite for most of his content.
@@sbernhard83 LCN is constantly giving bad information on his channel. He tells people they can apply fertilizer every month which is not necessary in most cases. He has convinced the average homeowner that they need to apply more products to their lawn as if it was a PGA golf course. The cause of his and most peoples lawn issues are directly caused by overusing fertilizer, insecticides, fungicides and herbicides on their lawn and nuking the healthy ecosystem and building a weak turfgrass that cant withstand any stress. I have seen lawns that have been established for 20 years in Florida that never get anything more than a little fertilizer a few times a year and look better than Allyns. He only shows certain parts of his yard in most of his videos at certain times of the day but if you were to evaluate his entire yard you would see insect damage, thin spots, fungus issues... this is because he has nuked his entire soil biology with chemicals. I think this is not only irresponsible but dangerous to be encouraging average homeowners to do the same. These chemicals are extremely toxic and end up in groundwater and in our waterways. Fuck LCN and his groupies that want to support his overpriced Yardmastery fertilizer which is just rebranded sunniland fert that anyone can buy at home depot for almost half the price.
@jayshotit9312 NO! Not “nuff said!” Allan is wasting your time and your money but you are so infatuated with him that you don’t notice the fact that your boy Alan is costing you time and money. SCOTT’s Bonus S and follow the instructions on the label. Then apply water. Is that too difficult for you? Remember to KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID.
Even though I may become a target some day 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, I appreciate you making these videos. One of my biggest pet peeves is people lying to sell their products. Even though I don't sell any products I may be guilty of spreading misinformation without knowing it because of myself being misled by some of the " trusted " lawn care " authoritative " figures. Thanks again!
They only go after claims. You, as a person, are morally good. People understandably, take criticism, to mean that they are bad people. That is not what this criticism is doing, it is pointing out your claims to be incorrect. You are not a bad person because you’ve repeated incorrect information.
There really aren’t any lies. The avi man cites a report that directly contradicts what he’s actually saying. He’s just hoping you were to lazy to actually go and read and just believe what he’s telling you. So either the maker of this video cannot read or he’s hoping you cannot. Either way is not good.

He’s talking about greenup and the high nitrogen is used by lawn care professionals to make your lawn do just that. 6% is actually a really significant makeup of chlorophyll. Wtf? I’m not getting the point of this video.
You know what I like doing with all of my fertilizer needs ... pay for shipping costs built into the price and paying over $50 for bags of fertilizer that I can buy for half the price or less at a local landscape supplier or AG store.
@@JesseTheBody1 I usually buy my items from a Ewing irrigation and get most of my fertilizers from $15-25. As for the AG store, I made a day trip out of it since is was 2 hours away. Wife and I got to enjoy walking around, grabbing some lunch and drinks and then I got to make a pit stop on the way back home to buy my fertilizer. I agree, not everyone has access to an AG store but garden centers and landscape suppliers are everywhere. I wouldn't buy fertilizer from a big box store at full price either as those are $50 and up as well.

Hi @Jimmy Calderon. Perhaps it would be more simple for us to provide recommendations, but doing so would only place us in the same position as most DIY youtube channels. Instead, our intention is to show you the door. Everyone has access to the same resources we do, but perhaps people just don't know where find them. We are convinced that if people are shown the resources and develop their critical thinking skills, then they will be better equipped than if they rely upon a youtube channel for advice. We understand this may not be the easiest path, but we would rather teach people how to fish than hand them one. Look in the video descriptions of each video for links to the content cited. Reading and understanding that content should help. Thank you for the respectful conversation.

You don't have the guts to recommend a program or alternative to Allyn's 'BS' because you know we would tear it apart or it would be very similar to Allyn's program. lol.. @@brianhartman7135 ok I just want to follow the logic and science of your statement. Let me see if I have your thought process correct. I just bought a bag of Double Dark from his web site then I got to thinking if he is selling products can I really trust him? Also I thought he was preaching not to use nitrogen is the summer months.
No he recommends using it regularly throughout the summer months... the problem is some areas in Florida are in a fertilizer blackout from Jul to Nov to prevent fertilizer runoff into our waterways.
Interesting. Like many DIY'ers I started looking closer at lawncare during 2020. Am always trying to absorb enough info and cast aside the useless stuff. Looking forward to future videos. 3:22 What is important is the amount of "wahaaa"? Did you say "light"? 5:40 By "amount of applied nitrogen" do you mean the volume of fertilizer multiplied by its nitrogen analysis = the amount of total nitrogen applied over the area?

I know it upsets you and you feel strong emotion whenever you perceive that your man crush ALLYN Haines is being attacked but try harder to contain yourself. You act like a pre-teen girl at a Justin Beiber concert the way you worship Allyn.
I enjoyed this video. I do think that Allyn is really good at explaining the basics to new homeowners and DIYers, and I also do think that he has a tendency to say things quickly that are easily taken in the wrong way (aside from the actual misinformation pointed out) - but there's a problem there. If it can be taken the wrong way, it will be, and needs to be corrected to provide factual info. Just like how he said "nitrogen doesn't cause disease", he is technically correct (as stated by TT robot) but since it can easily be taken to mean "nitrogen *application* does not cause disease" it needs to be checked. I have absolutely no disputes with this video. I like the conversation these videos create, keep them up.
I'd recommend that everyone watch the video about Nitrogen not causing disease... He explains everything and this guy is only picking statements from each video when it was explained in full on the actual videos. I feel like most of the people here have watched most of these videos on mute. Turn that sound up and it's very clear.
@@derek0606 if information can be interpreted incorrectly, it will be. Just because you understood Allyn saying "nitrogen does not cause disease" does not mean everyone will understand that. Not everyone will be able to watch an entire video, or pay attention the entire time. When videos are targeted at people like that, it's very important to be incredibly clear and reiterate information
Some good info here, but... Allyn's target demographic is the newer diy guy. TT says several times that concentration is not important, it is the application rate. While true, you have to consider the inexperienced DIY guy is simply going to apply at the bag rate, not calculate pounds on the ground (which Allyn covers in other videos). TT also "debunks" that potassium will increase the green color. Again, true, but in this video Allyn refers to a stressed out lawn. So, how can an inexperienced diy guy make his stressed out lawn green, add potassium to help with the stress relief, thus increasing the green in the lawn. Allyn is the main reason I have learned so much about diy lawn care. The basic knowledge he taught me great affected my results. However, now that I have gained that basic knowledge and then researched it more, I have kind of moved on from him, Jake, etc. The type of science that TT is teaching may simply be above what an inexperienced newby can handle. Which is why the way Allyn teaches it is very helpful. I'll admit, at first, I bought the stuff he was promoting, and saw great results. However, as I mentioned above, the more knowledge I gained, the less of his products I have purchased. Just keep in mind, you have to learn to walk before you can run.
"So, how can an inexperienced diy guy make his stressed out lawn green, add potassium to help with the stress relief, thus increasing the green in the lawn." How are you determining that a stressed out lawn is due to a potassium deficiency? Turf Truth may or may not agree with me on this but that statement alone doesn't pass the BS test. If turf is just dry then only water is going to sort that out, potassium isn't going to help hydrate the plant ( and no I don't want to engage in the debate about stoma control and guard cells and potassium). My opinion is that potassium is being over marketed as a "stress" cure for turf, when good old fashioned H20 is probably better combined with better cultural practices like quit scalping your lawn every 2 weeks.
@Jason Menken Your statement, “You have to learn to walk before you can run.” Unfortunately, when dealing with fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. A newer DIY person should learn the correct information from the very beginning of his/her new lawn journey.
@Jason Menken Thanks for the comment. No, we never stated that concentration is not important. In fact, at 3:00 we stated that the analysis is important. Allyn refers to what K does, but his assertion that applied K will green up turfgrass was clearly not specific to stressed turf. Even with stressed turf, applied K does not consistently result in greener turf in the field on native soils. If you are sincerely convinced that potassium will green up turfgrass, we recommend you read the chapter we cited along with the literature cited in that chapter. Or, contact a university soil/nutrition specialist who is knowledgeable on turfgrass K. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.2134/agronmonogr56.c14
@@HungrySoutherner I agree, proper watering is probably going to help the stressed out lawn the most. Too many grass types to say what is the "best" height, but for my TTTF I keep it at 4+ inches during the summer. I don't know the science behind it, and I know I have more to learn, but on a VERY simple level, nitrogen helps the grass grow up, phosphorus helps it grow down, and potassium helps with stress relief.
Clout chasing. I've been following LCN since his Indiana days. I stand by Allyn.
First things first:
Allyn’s videos/methods are consistent in applying .75lbs of nitrogen at a time, a low dose by any measure. TruGreen typically treats between 1/1.5 lbs/1000.
A few more issues with your “doors”
1. A couple of notes. The UT report you cited speaks mostly to cool season grasses. Zoysia is not.
2. The article you cite, from UT says “excess nitrogen fertilization…” can contribute. What is excessive? Certainly not .75lb/1,000? (Page 4)
3. In fact, the same report says: “Control: Adequate nitrogen fertilization and soil moisture levels will help prevent the development of dollar spot.” (Page 4)
4. In fact, AGAIN, it says: “Fertilizer should be applied in amounts to encourage uniform growth and avoid excess growth especially in the spring and summer.” (Page 6)
7. AGAIN, on page 7, from the very report you cite: “Control: Good soil and air drainage and low levels of nitrogen fertilizer will help reduce the severity of these diseases.”
Man, you were so close. I know you figured folks wouldn’t check your citations. Did you even read them? But congrats on the clicks by trolling a big name on RUclips and siphoning off a few clicks!

The bag also contains carbon prills which is by no means cheap. One also has to consider convenience of carbon w/ the fert and what that cost to do. LCNs channel is geared towards beginners to intermediate. It's important for a beginner to start not being overwhelmed while at the same time obtaining results.
And carbon being the main element in chlorophyll, as pointed out in this video, proving that maybe the Yard Mastery product isn’t whack. LOL….

I got kicked out of their Northern Facebook group for sharing this video.

B/S... I have been following the LCN for years, and have employed many of his recommendations. All I can say is, people have stopped me while I'm mowing and said, "How do you get this SA so thick and green?" Thank you Lawn Care Nut. Keep it rolling.
PS
BTW... he gave the same advice and application strategies when he was exlusively using Milorganite.

👍
They are grasping alright
@@DRK_BBQ 👆
Do those liguid green county fertilizers

@@HungrySoutherner you mean to tell me that applying a salt to dried/stressed turf will not "relieve" that stress?
@@HungrySoutherner I agree, proper watering is probably going to help the stressed out lawn the most. Too many grass types to say what is the "best" height, but for my TTTF I keep it at 4+ inches during the summer.
I don't know the science behind it, and I know I have more to learn, but on a VERY simple level, nitrogen helps the grass grow up, phosphorus helps it grow down, and potassium helps with stress relief.
