"The first rule of Root Club is: You do not talk about Root Club!" :)
With my “aggressive runners” that float over top of all the others I cut them off and transplant them to areas where I am combating an evasive weed, bare spots, or rough soil conditions. They seem to take root better, knock out the weeds faster and build patches that are thicker and denser than where they cane from in the first place. It has worked really well for me so far. They seem to already be used to the soil conditions so they make it a home easily, they are already in the “rapid recovery mode” so they send out more shoots and roots. I plant them in straight line rows a couple inches apart. With survey flags mapping the area so I don’t mow that section for a couple weeks for better rooting. Then I will mow that section only every two days or three depending on weather. It has worked wonderfully for me.
Like the Bob Ross of lawn care. Not even close to where St Aug can grow but I can watch all day……so calming to a LCN 😌
thank you Mike! I am a huge Bob Ross fan, that's a true complement.
@@Thelawncarenut ha! I was just called out on a zoom meeting for having a life size cardboard cutout of Bob in my office.
Allyn, you are reading my mind. You have answered all my questions in this video! Thank you sir!
Woke up from a nap and bam
💥 Quality Content 🤘🏼❤️
You are my favorite RUclips lawn care guy... Very good info as usual and good products!
Allen- Proud to say I am a part of the Domination Nation thanks your videos!!!! What Texas freeze!! May your Stolons be with you my friends and Mow ON!! Rehab is real!!!!
This season is the first season that I’ve seen my st Augustine lawn throw up Seed Heads. And I’ve noticed after a year of learning this tips, changed my fertilizer to organic and trying the Next Soil activation pack. In fact I’ve noticed that parts of my back yard was mostly weeds sand and crabgrass, so much that my surviving St Augustine was starting retake some ground and thriving after using the Soil Activation pack. Even though my backyard has a long way to go my entire lawn hasn’t looked as good as it did years ago.
Thank you Allen and the lawn care community for all tips. I couldn’t have success like this without them.
Definitely one of my favorite LCN video!!!!
Great Video. I sent this to my boss and one of my co workers. Great info on here Alan. Thanks.
WOW! Again you are right on time talking about topics I'm going through with my St. Aug here in Miami...loopers, ruff cuts and those spots.........THANKS LCN!!!
Thanks for the tip about traveling to Florida during the rainy season.
Your lawn reminds me of warm season Kentucky 31 every time haha. Great video and knowledge as always. I do appreciate you! I got my FREEEEEDOM today as well! Excellent sticker design. Can't wait to see it do work! God bless!
Thank you!!
I'm in Corpus Christi, TX.
We have had alot of rain. It's always terribly humid here also, being we are on the southern coast, we fight fungus all year long. I'm so happy my son in law turned me on to your channel!
Yes i'm in CC too. Our lawn is suffering fron rough cut, fungus and blades are yellow green.
You've helped me tremendously, Lawn Care College is what this is!
How I can kill my bermudas grass? Drive me crazy
My Dad's house in San Jose had St. Augustine lawn. When I moved to Sacramento he gave me a bag of stolens that I planted at that house and they grew up beautifully(I hope the new owners appreciate it) in the front yard.... the larger back yard was much more of a challenge, but it was growing! Now I'm in a new house and need to get my hands on some stolens to see if I can get it to grow here in a MUCH smaller area. Lots of area, just a smaller lawn section.
Still loving the Florida vids from way up in Chicago !
I just moved to Manatee County Florida from Pennsylvania, and your videos have been VERY helpful for taking care of my St Aug. lawn. This turf is nothing like the grass up in the frozen north.
ha ha yes it is so different - much more difficult too - but more rewarding when it does look good!
Great tips this week. Thanks! I needed this. I've been pondering over a few spots in the lawn that look a lot like leaf spot. Not sure if I want to hop on a different product yet just because it's a new lawn to me and I want to work with the tried and true first. But this will help me later if my problems keep showing up. Not a bad diy price either for us smaller lawns
Awesome video, I live in Broward county in Florida and noticed those seed looking leaves on my St Aug but didn’t know what they were and if it was normal or not and how it affects the lawn. Thank you for the explanation!
Love the video and very insightful , I'm in Texas.
That's just some super gorgeous grass!!!
Thank you !!
I just used the 3336 liquid for my last treatment and it works great. Prior to that I use Eagle 20EW, which also worked great.
Good advice, I'm in Central FL and we've had .3 inches of rain since April in my location with 95 degree temps daily...the St Aug is trying to check out daily, especially on mostly sunny days. Most challenging year I've ever had in the lawn.
Indeed. Lots of watering this year to bridge the gap.
YES the rain in Houston, Texas was NO JOKE my St Augustine grass got dollar spot/grey leaf spot from being so wet, but I treated it and it has grown out now. I pick up my clippings because I planted my rye grass so thick its still dying off at the moment! I LOVE MY GRASS! I just cut my grass using my new reel mower on my channel man its a WORK OUT but I love the clean cut it gives! This is my first house and first lawn! Great info!
What did you treat it with?
You are 100 percent correct. My father was a master at mowing the lawn. He had the best lawn in the neighborhood. When i bought my house it was covered in weeds. His advice was throw some squate if san Agustin sod and mow then water...mow mow mow mow like you never mowed before. My lawn cleard up and san Agustin spread through out the yard. He also bagged like crazy.
“Shooting blanks” 🤣 best grass channel ever
Great video! I am in Houston, Texas and we are about neck and neck with the St. Augustine
How do We know what grass is in sprayed in grass in Pearland? The grass used to be on rice fields. Weeds are all over the place of 100 x 50? It may be small blade grass help!! How to get rid of weeds and what kind of grass is it?
I have St Aug in DFW. Nursed it after the snowpocalypse and now getting comments from my neighbors and friends that my grass is looking great 👊
Did the bulletproof strategy and surviving all the rain we've been getting. I cut once wet and really ripped up the blades, so recovering from that.
Thanks for all the tips... Keep em coming!
This video came at exactly the right time. Just yesterday I was noticing seed heads all over the place during my Wednesday mow. I thought it might be frayed tips or some kind of fungus, but no it definitely was seed heads. Our seed heads are pretty ugly, lol. After weeks of rain here in SE Texas, it has been dry for a couple of days so I'm assuming the lawn was rain drunk. Thanks for sharing the new fungicide option. We need as many options as possible with our thick, green blades so susceptible to fungus. Also, I would love to see a video on the difference between fertilizing and watering shaded St. Aug vs full sun St. Aug like yours. I have read Texas A&M's recommendations to fertilize at half the rate of a full sun St. Aug lawn. Watering also is cut in half. This is so important for us in Texas as our front yards are typically shaded with two oak trees and we might be throwing down wrong.
Ugh ... Fert ban and reclaimed water restrictions up here in Pinellas County. NO RAIN! Just have to water when it's lawful! Lawns are looking good though because we've followed your advice and stayed ahead of it. Thanks Bud!
Hello There, would you happen to have a video on saint Augustine Sod Grass - how to water for June, July & August. Thank you 🙏🏼
Nice work Al. Going to look into the group 1 fungicides.
the lawn gods have not brought much rain. NEED MORE
GREAT video, Allyn!
I love the sound of mowing over seed heads…. Pop pop pop
That’s an amazing lawn, makes me jealous because here in Los Angeles County and the rest of the state we’re in a severe drought so I can barely keep my St Augustine alive. Plus having a green lawn is a tell tale sign to the neighborhood that you are not being a good citizen. 😞
Great info you just answered all my questions
That Fungicide stack though 🔥 welcome to the 3336 club brother.
I’m joining the 3336 club 👌🏼
After coming down with a fungal infection in my skin and all of my lawns suffering as of late, my own lawn included,bI think fungicide is exactly what I've been. needing to do
I have quite a few stolons in my backyard St. Augustine grass here in southeast Louisiana. I to have never used pre-emergent. The indeed are close to the sidewalk along the back of my house. I found one in the front yard next to the driveway.
Unexpected video! Made my day.
The King has returned
I don't have St. Aug but this video made me laugh several times.
I'm in North Texas, Dallas, and with all the rain we've been getting my St Aug is growing at a rapid rate. Really filling in!
I live just west of Fort Worth on Eagle Mountain Lake. Same thing here, St Aug is going nuts, it is helping with some winter damage I had.
same here in Houston.
@@g0ldensample21 yep - Katy and our entire subdivision is thicc! Haha.
Hey, I'm in North Texas, Dallas and want to known if June is too late to throw'er down? Lol seriously though.
@@brandonb.288 I'm here in Katy as well. Not to throw down some milo 😁👍
😂😂😂😂😂😂 such a cool video thank you so much man!!! It was hilarious and helpful
LCN, great vid and funny AF. Great job
I have definitely noticed the seed heads with all the rain in North Texas. I have enjoyed all the free water going in to late Spring though! This is definitely not a year in our area to skip the bulletproof fungicide app strategy.
Here in Se Michigan the other day well... we got a taste of Florida weather i'll tell ya it was hot humid and at around 4pm the sky just let loose and it poured and hailed and windy the whole nine yards. After 20-30min of relentless pouring rain, we had gotten 2in of rain and everything was flooded. Most rain I've ever seen in such a short amount of time, was some much needed rain though
North Dallas here and got patches of grey leaf spot starting to spread. Propiconazole, 3336 and disease ex thrown down today, and hoping for the best! Also have Thiomyl and Captan as other back-up fungicides, but haven’t used them yet. Thiomyl may just be the the 2nd cheapest treatment after Propiconazole which runs me $1.25 per 1k when bought by the gallon ($80).
No Rain here in houston...yard is getting crispy
Different grass types are always fascinating to me with respect to where in the country they thrive. I'm in the transition zone and tall fescue is highly desirable here. I recently saw a video on how to get rid of tall fescue and I thought "why would anyone want to get rid of fescue?"
I'm looking at the videos that highlight St Augustine grass and can't help but notice that it resembles a grassy weed to me. I realize that certain grass types are more favorable to certain areas with specific climates and soil conditions but It's almost hard to believe that anyone would actually want a lawn full of Saint Augustine grass.
That’s a fair thought. I like it because how thick the blades are. And very easy to understand what it’s feeling. Blades curling? Water more. Blades not very green? Root or food problem. And good luck weeds getting sun in it.
Also feels really nice bare foot. Like great waxy stout feeling
@thelawncarenut could you do a video on Teejet nozzles? Like a compete training video on each tip and what they can be used for and why?
We're going to the club!! 😆
Great video and definitely cleared up my worries about seed heads. Mine seem to have lasted for much longer than 12 days. Even with consistent watering, fert, bio stems and cutting 2 times a week.
On a serious note, can we put seed heads in our salads? Gotta get them nutrients
Doing a review on the makita trimmer? Have one and love the thing! 5ah battery is a huge improvement even over the 4ah. Keep up the great content.
“Look at those fattys” -Allyn
Great vid brother. Happy dominating.
Greetings! Thank you,
Omg....they will actually shop to CA for the cleareys stuff
You should do a live with Q&A from time to time. Also could visit listener lawns to help with recommendations. By the way I am in Orlando. 😁😉
Check out his other channel. Lawns across America.
All right!
The only 2 grasses i dearly love is ? St. Augustine and Centipede Grass, and i mix them 👍 There both Freeze, dough, disease, resistant and don't need fertilizer either. IT don't get over 10" tall > I mow only once a month, while every one else is mowing 2 times a week. Trying to look as nice as my yard. I'am saving on gas, wear at tear, saving on water, wearing my self out. They both do good in shade or full sun either one ! There is a slight different! Centipede grows shorter and a little lighter green, while St. Augustine is a darker green, and grows a little bit taller. > BEST GRASSES EVER 👍
We don't get any rain in Los Angeles county lol. I got one of those smart timers that use weather info to know when to turn on the sprinklers.
One more question. When is the best time to apply liquid iron to my St. Augustine grass?
Central Valley California were in full sun 🌞🌞🌞🌞 90's and 100's
I actually wanted to ask you about this as I’ve been seeing the looping stolons as you called them here lately and I was thinking of them as “dolphins” since they were popping out of the grass like they were, and since we live in an area where you will see dolphins in the water. LoL good to get more info on them, thank you Sir.
Have St. Augustine in South Texas.
Allyn!!!! LMFAO. 🤣🤣🤣I have the same mower. Only 25 on the market that's electric and gets it done everytime for me 😁. The 2 circles on the side is what you have to press in to adjust whatever length you need on the bar height
... only nut like you would do it that way!!!. Stay safe brother. . Btw thanks for the new sticker with my hydertain order 👍
Do you have a video on how to level a “St Augustine grass lawns”
Last Year I had a terrible year on my fresh new sod in my backyard. It was terrible. Had great new sod laid in march. Had to water a lot. That cause a fungus in late June. So I tried to fix it with fungicide. After that started fixing it I had infestation of army worms. Never heard of those. Man they were everywhere. Grass is finally trying to look back to normal but still not there yet.
My Pro Vista is doing this! Freaked me out at first. Going to seed that is.
I live on St. Petersburg. The drought within the last 2 years has been hell. Water restrictions on top of that. Can't do everything your video recommends. 😪
Shout out from new port Richey Florida. I just put down floratam 2 weeks ago. Gets watered twice a day for 20-25min a day with my well water. I've seen a few of those seeds popping up! I've put down malorganite the day of SOD install and 2 weeks in hit Scots feed. CAN I USE FUNGICIDE THIS EARLY? Or should I wait 60 days?
Out of curiosity I planted one of those St Aug seed stems a while back and it definitely germinated. So it may not be as sterile as widely advertised.
Pete's GCI guide specifically recommends clearys 3336F for grey leaf spot
good stuff!
I used to live in Ft. Myers!
Lol at clubbing. Great video as always.
My St Augustine is thin under and green on top. Houston hot days.
Thank you for the video.....It's very helpful. I have St. Augustine in my yard in Birmingham, Al. I've had a terrible time with grey leaf spot and brown spot. I've been working with the local county agent and plant pathologist over the last year or so and they have helped with treatment but I'm still having a prevention problem. It's June 5th and we've had a rainy season and the heat is really starting to crank up so I think I'm primed now to start experiencing the height of the problems. Their main recommendation is centered around the Scott's products like Disease X. I don't know if that's because they feel that is the most commercially available or easier or what? I don't want to saturate my soil with so many chemicals. I would like to add some natural nitrogen through maybe top dressing with a good compost but I don't know what to do naturally about the fungus?
What are your thoughts?
I'm in the pacific northwest (PNW) area, a little south from Seattle, and in my area, I get a lot of rain along with relatively cool summer. This is nice for having a great lawn but it comes with the price of having all kinds of fungus. I've been applying both azoxystrobin and propiconazole, and I want to ask if I can throw in this Clearys 3336F into the cocktail of cure for fungus?
How about a centipede video next? Very common in Florida too.
Greetings. Do you change your mulching strategy when you find dollar/grey spot in the lawn?
Nice video! That Toro sign you had on your bench is awesome... Where did you get it?
Hi I have a question, love your videos first of all, and send I live in Ohio and have moved into a home that the grass in the back yard has bent grass more so in the back then the front , and it extremely hard to maintain especially its color. How do I take care of this kinda grass because my way is not working.
Imperial County, CA is predominantly St. Aug.. the rest of us cool kids have bermuda.
I remember when I lived in Moreno Valley they had a lot of St Aug in the homes north of the 60
I want to kill the St.Augustine that is coming from neighbors lawn, Calexico
I have a question: this year my St. Augustine grass isnt growing as well at the end of my lawn close to my curb. My yard slopes at that end. Ive never had any issues before but its very splotchey now. I had to put in about 8 new sod squares this year due to i believe ants killing my grass under that tree. We've had lots of rain lately here in North Texas like you said. Rest of my lawn looks great, just concerned about that one part
Yeaaaaaa mid week Tips.
I’m thinking about buying Bayer Armada 50 WDG: trifloxystrobin and triadimefon. Would you suggest it for St. Aug? Gray Leaf Spot in quite bad this year. Last year, Take All Rot took destroyed part of my lawn.
I have used Scott’s EX, and the Bio on my lawn. I think you need to change up fungicides same as I would change sanitizer in a food production facility. Just my thoughts.
Anything special to do after overwatering or experiencing a flood?
I just got new St Augustine sod on Thursday can I add fertilizer now and do I water it in as soon as I add it…I live in Orlando I have Palmetto
Our st augustine is about 3" above our sidewalk, how did you keep yours at sidewalk level?
They cut down two Camphor Trees in my yard late Feb. The roots were making baseball size mounds on my yard. My St Aug has been dormant since the felling and stump grinding. Not to mention the foot traffic in those two days plus some divots from the tree falling. What can I do to wake it up and get it growing? My lawn looks green with a few weeds here and there mainly Pusley. From the reading I’ve done, Camphor oils can kill off lots of plants. Hoping these little sucker from the camphor tree seeds aren’t choking my St Augustine out. There’s a bunch of seedlings growing where they cut down the trees and some.
South Florida here. We’re still dry on the East Coast...
I live in North Texas (DFW area) I have a lot of what looks to be bermuda. I bought a better mower (Toro Super Recycler) to cut higher than the 3.25 max I was cutting at before. Will this help??
You can have loopers even when you don't use preemergent. Of course, you can have clubbed roots if you use too much preemergent. I have bunches of loopers. I just mow as normal. Survival of the fittest.
If I am reading correctly, one good thing to clarify for folks is the label says to apply 4-6 oz per 1000 for most diseases, HOWEVER, in the box above, it says Max Application Rate at one time for Residential is 2 oz per 1000
I was thinking the same but after just applying 4 oz per 1000 I read the instructions again and for home and residential it says 2 oz per 1000 hope my st Augustine grass will be fine.
Really how you help. I live in Port Charlotte just south of you. I have been using your products for about 6 months now and my yard is getting much thicker. I have saint Augustine grass which is very dark green, but in a few areas my grass is a light green almost yellow. I have added disease control and grub control but have not corrected the issue can you help
Just going to start applying a preventative fungicide. What sprayer do u recommend for the liquid?
Take all root rot is exploding all over my neighborhood in DFW. What do you recommend!
Allyn, I just left Siesta Key today. Man it must’ve been a really dry spring? Saw a lot St Aug in bad shape.
