      I don't completely know what happened to kill 1/4th of of my fairly nice yard (Bermuda Yard). I'm paralyzed and I normally run around on my zero turn spraying my yard. I let a friends kid do it and he didn't walk fast enough. He sprayed about 4 times the rate and it wiped my yard out. It's literally 80% dirt now. I used Prodiamine, red label image for POA Annua, so I'm scared 😱. I went from loudly saying walk faster to yelling walk faster and he wouldn't listen. Any valid ideas ideas and not ideas from those who just talk trash. Thanks in advance.

      Thirty years ago I got my newly sodded St Augustine looking amazing. Then June came and the grub worms ate the roots across the entire lawn. So I litteraly rolled that dead lawn up like an area rug. Disposed of it, then spread durasban across the lawn to wipe out those well fed grubbs. BTW, grubs are June Bug nymphs. Then I had new sod layed down and purchased a lawncare book. That book was an amazing resource. I have been awarded yard of the month many times over the past 30 years. Durasban (Chlorpyrifos ethy) used to be the golden ticket insecticide. Dursban was banned by the EPA around 2000-2001 because of concerns for the health of humans and wildlife. It even killed mosquitos, which are a problem on the gulf coast.

    I recently did an experiment by cutting the long stolons that have rooted from the crown. If you apply fertilizer and water for the next few weeks it will establish independently and spread faster instead of having to get most of its nutrients from a distant crown. I'm not sure if this method is widely known. It forces the stolons to create a deeper root system completely independent from the original crown.

    St Aug out the back, did my first top dress this season, bit of work due to access, but those areas look thicker and greener than all the areas i didn't top dress.
    Finally sat down and converted lb per 1,000sqft to metric as i have no idea how big 1,000sqft is. It's just under 100sqm, exactly my front lawn. I kept it going till xmas when i had surgery then just kept it alive. Here's 🍻 to my next season.

    Dallas grass, Johnson grass and most of all crab grass are the hardest weeds to control. The back breaking job of pulling them out is the hardest work. A garden weasel or shovel are instrumental in getting the whole plant out.

      @@kt9495 Same here - I just killed off some areas that were infested with Bermuda and put down an entire pallet of sod two weeks ago. One thing I did differently this time was put down some peat moss around the edges and in any seams in the sod pieces. Sure, you shouldn’t have seams, but they happen - especially with all the twists and turns in my yard. The peat moss has really helped hold on to the moisture when I water and protect the edges of the sod from getting “crispy” and dried out in the direct sun.

    Will top dressing help to jump start growth in St. Augustine? A few weeks ago, I put down fertilizer. Will repeat at the 8 week mark. I’m in zone 10a with very sandy soil. I have a few large areas/patches where it’s bare sand likely cause the irrigation doesn’t get everywhere due to some berms with a tall croton plant in the middle of the yard. Second app of Pennant Magnum today, flagship and a grub/insecticide next weekend.
    What happened to greenphite? Soil test says I’m K deficient in Tampa, FL and was looking forward to spraying that throughout the summer. Probably gonna have to mix in some stress blend. Thoughts or suggestions?

    Each of the granular fertilizer from Yard Mastery has iron derived from iron oxide, except for Freedom. I am of the understanding that iron oxide is completely unavailable for plant uptake, so why not use the EDTA iron that is in Freedom? When I am buying anything other than Freedom, is my lawn (of a pH higher than 6) even getting any iron with an application?

    Great videos! As a first time homeowner last year, I learned everything I needed to take care of my st Aug from your channel. Could you start a series about landscaping, and how to take care of shrubs and trees?

    You mentioned putting 3/4# of N every 4-5 weeks. If I'm using Flagship as per directions, how much N(pounds) am I applying?

    • @TheLawnCareNut
      @TheLawnCareNut  2 года назад +1

      Excellent question. Flagship bag rate is 3lbs/1000 and that gives you the 3/4 lb/N

    I have a tone of straw looking blades in the lawn. It was new sod from ne construction home purchased in April of 2022. I put down Scotts southern weed and feed bonus S two weeks ago and the grass got a little thicker and greener but the straw looking grass is still there. How do I fix this? Is the Scotts still working slowly or is there something else I should put down?
