    This is the simplest way to fill in the bare areas, which I have ever seen in RUclips. Most of the lawn guides require lots of expensive equipment but this is what we need. Thanks!

    This video is the complete deal on how to fill in dead spots in St. Augustine. Sounds simple BUT it's the important details on the prep and application that makes the difference. Everybody says to just dump some BK on these spots. Then your yard doesn't react and you have to do it over or your just disappointed in the results after all the work and money spent. I've got some areas where I lost turf to pulling out crabgrass, and sod webworms eating my grass. Followed this plan and as he said Mother nature made it work. Thanks Chad.

    How about getting a post hole digger and taking some plugs from the healthy areas of the lawn and putting the plugs in the affected area. Fill the hole up with regular dirt and the grass will recover from the runners. Done it many times.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  Год назад

      You still need to put down soil. The bare areas exposed to the sun will make it very compacted and the runners will not grab. That is the case here. You can also buy plugs from the store. Seems like a lot of work, but that's one way of doing it.

      You will see it fill in much faster and in return have less weeds. Goodluck!!

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  4 года назад

      No problem!! Thank you so much for supporting the channel.
      Make sure that the tree is trimmed properly and brings in as much light as possible. If their is not enough sun light then this will not work either. Doing this is a great place to start. If you are still having trouble under the tree keep trimming it till enough light gets in to allow the grass to fill back in.

    Notice how when the soil is leveled out there are a few blades of grass sticking up through the dirt. That’s perfect. As long as you have some blades sticking up through the dirt, the grass will be able to grow through it without a problem. You know you have it too thick if there are no grass blades popping through.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, that's a great point!! Especially with good soil. The grass will grow through fast.

    Great video. I have already done about 14 bags of both BK and sand. Bought a house recently and previous owners didn't care for lawn much. It's been a week since the first 9 bags. Grass starting to peak out. May need more coverage due to dirt settling. Thank you for the tips. I subscribed. Looking forward to seeing the results video soon!

    • @bettercallchadd

      It may need an aeration as well!!! A week.is a very short time. I could give it a month before adding more soil.
      This will help a lot and be needed several times depending on how bad the lawn is!!!

    Looks interesting, but I can’t afford to raise the level of my yard any higher. There is bordering cement and draining to worry about. I cut a piece of sod into plugs and let that fill in bare areas.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  Год назад

      If you lay the soil slower over time, you can achieve the same result just slower. I'm not a big fan of plugs, even though they definitely can work. It might be best to just cut out and re sod at the desired height.

    I have a lawn with St. Augustine grass with many dead snd smashed grass patches due to foot traffic. I think Kikuyu grass looks similar to Augustine grass? If I mix both grasses by planting Kikuyu grass in the dead patch areas, will the final lawn result into a similar looking mix of grasses? Or would I have done a mistake and done a mix of grasses that is not compatible and I'd have to go and kill out the Kikuyu? Thanks.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  5 месяцев назад

      I would recommend mixing the turf!! If you want to mix in a high traffic area, bermuda is better for traffic and grows well here.

    We have bad bare spots at the top of our backyard on a slope down to a lake. I am going to try this there. Have been worried about erosion.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  4 года назад

      I would recommend adding sod on top if it is on a slope. It all depends on rainfall and what degree the slope is but erosion may become an issue before it fills in.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  3 года назад +1

      Cow shit!!! Haha
      Rich soil. That's what can be a game changer in the lawn. Rich soil. Our soil sucks and without using soil amendments, fertilization is just temporary food. If can change soil you can change the lawn. The best way to do this is areate and top dress the lawn.
