- Ramin Karimloo sings 'I Vow To Thee My Country' by Gustav Holst at the Royal British Legion 'Festival of Remembrance' on 7 November 2020. Performed with no audience from the public, due to the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020.
The words were written as a poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice and later set to music by Holst, in an adaptation from his 'Jupiter' in The Planets suite.

We Will Remember Them.
The Words
I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
The love that asks no questions, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.
Brilliant performance. It was somehow even more moving that the whole performance triumphed in the face of a modern adversity.
It wasn’t just the excellent quality of his singing, but the passion that he brought to it.
I have always loved this but when Ramin sang this song it took on a whole new meaning simply stunning ❤❤
This pulled on my heartstrings. I had almost forgotten just how great Ramin's voice is
Ramin did us all proud.
Absolutely wonderful amazing interpretation of this beautiful hymn. If love Ramins singing ever since we saw him as phantom and then he took the lead in Les Mis when we went to London for another birthday. HIS voice is so clear and the sincerity of his performance was faultless
Wonderful so enjoyed this and the whole service was brilliant
Look forward to hearing ramin sing in a full Albert hall next year. Well done !!!
@@bettyatthey5017 He was AMAZING. Hope he comes back this year and sings it again.
Absolutely he did.
R.I.P to those that never made it home. Love and Respect to all who served. Thank you for your service.
This performance was very fitting.
Ramin was the best choice of singer
What a brilliant voice never heard Ramin sing before can’t stop playing it
Same. I didn’t even know who this man was
Phantom, Les Miserables
Anastasia.
Ramin has been the lead in countless musicals, but also sings with his own band and is a talented song writer.
And he is absolutely bloody gorgeous!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Spine chilling Absolutely beautiful.. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺
As an American, I don't remember having heard this song before - by, my God, this was beautiful and very moving.
Not heard this sang so well before or since this! Perfect job by Ramin
It may have had no audience but he sang so well. Fitted the occasion perfectly.
This performance ranks up there with the opening to the 2017 Festival of Remembrance. And it's one of my favorite hymns.
I have to say,I cannot stop listening to this. Having not heard Ramin sing before this,I have surely been missing out on a great talent, what a wonderful voice. Love him 👍
I love that so many people are just discovering him, you definitely have missed out but you get to go and experience it all for the first time, i'm so jealous, enjoy 😉
Ramin was amazing xx shame there wasn't a audience to give them all a standing ovation .. that was brilliant

To my shame I had never heard of Ramin until Saturday night .He gave me such great pleasure Thank you Ramin
Search Phantom of the opera,Anastasia, Les Miserables and his albums to hear more of his heavenly voice.
Watch Holby City... He's in that!!
Everything so different this year. But one thing stays the same our remembrance to those who gave their lives for us to have a future. To those who never got to have a future and to see their families again. To those who never got to know them who were born after their sacrifice. We will never forget them.
Be still my beating heart.... Ramin you bossed this... 💙 💙 💙
I’m 84 years old and heard this many times but never have ever heard this sung this way also I’ve never seen Ramin before he is so talented now I’m listening to him everyday I love him he sings with his heart not just his voice he has soul it’s beautiful ❤️
This was also the first time I had heard Ramin, I’m 71. He has the most incredible voice. No wonder he was noticed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Macintosh. I also listen to him regularly there is so much on RUclips of him.
Such a powerful voice. This moved me to tears!
Can you believe some claim not to ever feel anything from his singing? They must be dead in their hearts imo
@@ashleebenedict6523their loss.
I've just listened to it and it made me think of Prince Philip, it was one of the hymns that were played just before his funeral and I kept seeing him in my mind's eye and I'm sad all over again that he's gone. RIP Prince Philip xx
Sad seeing the Albert Hall empty though
This has been a favourite of mine for as long as I can remember. Brings a tear to my eye and a lump to to my throat. In my opinion should be our National Anthem.
Same, it’s very emotive. Always been my favourite too.
many would agree, but unfortunately its an English poem and not representative of the union....
I don't know how to explain it but it's something about how He sings it that makes it so intrigued absolutely magical❤
Probably the best version I've ever heard
Agree.
couldn't agree more
Wow, what a voice didn't realise he could sing I've only ever seen him on Holby. Amazing xx
If you want to check out his singing I'd recommend The Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary Concert or the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert! Ramin is incredible in both musicals.
@@excaria5949 I loved him in the 25th Anniversary Convert of Les Miserables! Absolutely fantastic!
Check out his RUclips channel or listen to From Now On CD.
This type of comments always make me laugh and a bit sad too, after about a career 15 years in musical theater, being cast in many major roles and Tony nomination, many know him only for a role which has nothing to do with his real talent. 😕
@@ashleebenedict6523, Ramin refers to himself as first and foremost an actor. He is excellent in Holby.
Great performance makes me fill with emotion when they play this should be national anthem....
Cannot stop playing it
I am speechless. What a beautiful voice.
So proud that Ramin Karimloo is an Iranian-Canadian. As a Canadian I love the Festival of Remembrance. We were there too.
Just love him singing this beautiful song,my favourite since a little girl, superb
This is one of my favourites, telling us, we may not be the world power we once were but we are still great. And he sung it really well. RIP all those brave service men and women who gave their today’s for our tomorrow. God save the Queen.
Simply an amazing voice and singer. Ramon never disappoints.
The best voice I have ever heard singing this song, the mushrooms must be smiling.
Love this man so much ,the voice of an angel 👼
I only know him from Holby City. What a shock !! An amazing singer !

Very moving. Respect to all those brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. May we never forget their bravery and courage.
Wonderful inspirational hymn.

Ramon has such a beautiful voice! He’s an amazing West End star. Have only watched him on the 25th Les Mis concert DVD as Enjolras.
Thank you for posting , one of my favourite songs and one of my favourite theatre performers
Holst set his gorgeous theme from Planets into this beautiful patriotic hymn to the poem written by Sir Cecil Spring Rice. Excellent performance, stunning legato, perfect diction, very moving.

Would to see this at the queens funeral
Amazing
Maşallah harika selâm Türkiyeden herkeze 👌🎁🔔
Please, someone post the whole festival to RUclips so that expats can see it.
I only recorded the final part and sadly don't have it all. But it's all available on the BBC UK website for another 25 days, I don't know it it can be seen outside the UK though. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000pb3s/royal-british-legion-festival-of-remembrance-2020
@@1947dave Thanks Dave. I'm in the USA and BBC website videos are blocked from here. I don't understand why the BBC doesn't post the whole festival. It is a memoriam, not a commercial concert. The most commercial parts (guest singers) have already been posted, and most of the remainder was provided free to the BBC by UK armed services.
Bravo
It's hard to stop the lyrics of World in Union leaking into consciousness at the crescendos
RIP Kian Madani
i love it
Update: now appearing in Funny Girl on Broadway👍
This is exceptional and made me cry x
RIP Diana, Princess of Wales
1961-1997
Taken from us too soon in a tragic car accident
❤
It may be a bit late, but thank you x
Ramin makes even patriotism look sexy !!!
Lol yes, he is a very sexy man.
Needs to be the UK national anthem
Fuck this is awesome
This is for the NHS!
Good enunciation.
Effortless and joyful.
I know he just opens his mouth and this beautiful sound comes out - what a wonderful gift.
Too bad can't watch the whole show in Canada
Parts was good but some of it was complete rubbish
I'm a korean, but this anthem makes me feel proud.. whyyy?! lol. Btw what is the badge on his left chest?
it's the remembrance poppy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembrance_poppy
Well as the second verse says "there is another country", and we can all be part of that one (John 14:2).
👍
Did i hear Erik at 2:06? LOL 😂

Guys do u know who is the other country mentioned In the song 🙂🎵
It's heaven. The origin of the hymn is a poem by Sir Cecil Spring-Rice entitled Urbs Dei ("The City of God"). The poem described how a Christian owes his loyalties to both his homeland and the heavenly kingdom.
@@177itchell that's so cool 😎
GOAT
I’d like to audition AGT with this song. How would Simon react to it being British.
