In the Broadway musical, the lyrics was "Keep your chin up high". That was changed to "hold your head up high" in the movie, and that is the version that has been known since.

Could these one and a half nice Jewish boys from New York ever have dreamt that this most beautiful song from their musical Carousel would have such an impact on Liverpool supporters and football supporters around the world. Perhaps like Billy Bigelow they were looking down on this great occasion and wonderful rendition,
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot my login password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Derek William thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Inspired songs like this should be heard more often. This classic puts to shame the inferior, overblown junk usually selected. This work has dignity. In a short time it gives us a longstanding wish of eternal hope.
To the one who disliked your comment “ bollocks back”. Imho when you hear the original tempo it far surpasses the mid-60’s pop version. Although I must admit it did bring the song back to popularity.
Wrong 100%. Billy Bigelow never sang this song. The song at the scene you mentioned was sung by the people at the ceremony, and Shirley Jones (the mother) joined in, and dead Billy urged his troublesome daughter to join in and sing, and she did.
I grew up listening to ALL of the R&H Musicals....Played different Stories every week..."STUDENT PRINCE" & "I'LL WALK WITH GOD" still one of my favorites.
There is some kind of solemn, sorrowful beauty in having this song sung at at a place called Hillsborough, even though it is not the one that still causes such pain.
"STUDENT PRINCE" & "I'LL WALK WITH GOD" still my favorites...We grew up listening to ALL of R&H ...Different one every week on the Radio..Very hard to pick a favorite!
When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark At the end of the storm There's a golden sky And the sweet silver song of a lark Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark At the end of the storm Is a golden sky And the sweet silver song of the lark Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk You'll never walk You'll never walk alone
greatest song to be sung in lfc.s ground we made it ours .the passion of this song says it all r.i.p 96 Hillsborough I was there and fortunate to have my life still .never forgotten ynwa
Although I am a Man Utd, supporter I must point out that this song is associated with Liverpool FC, and draws its power from the tragedies that clubs' supporters have faced.
...2002, at uni 1st year when Becks scored that goal for England. Last year at uni... that Champions League final. WBA a dream, but always support the red half of Liverpool after that... amazing supporters.
It brings a nation together... wonderful! I know that financially I will be much better off if Scotland goes it's own way but it would be great if we all stood together.... ask N Sturgeon (and the Salmond man) what she really wants, can you afford it?
Liverpool FC have "You'll Never Walk Alone" on their crest. It's sung before every home match, and usually by the away support. So it does actually. It might originate from a musical, but it's very ingrained in some football clubs, not just Liverpool.
Karl Fredrik Nilsen bvb vs liverpool is stunning for different reasons, well.worth a listen tho even if you dont like football.I love every version of this song.
I don't care that England, Scotland, Wales and Norhtern Ireland conquered a third of the known world...... Liverpool and Manchester have never conquered each other. As a Southerner, love and respect you both and long may the antogonism remain. It's only British.
What do you mean 'no one will know'? Speak for yourself, I was singing this before you were even thought of. Carousel is still performed all over the world and film shown on TV. Recently in London's West End. Educate yourself.
@@birdyairpower633 you done a survey and asked what do you associate with the song youll never walk alone a vastly higher percentage will say liverpool Fc, not carousel, trust me on that one, not just in uk also across the world...
It was a long time before I realised it was from 'Carousel". I think it was really the Liverpool band (group :-)) Gerry and the Pacemakers who made it so famous in England, at the height of Merseybeat's popularity in the sixties. . I assume that this was to a large extent behind its adoption as the anthem of Liverpool Football Club, and then by football fans everywhere. This not, of course, to fail to give credit to Rodgers and Hammerstein, who composed the song, along with so many other wonderfully memorable and enduringly popular songs and musicals! I have seen and love many of their musicals. Though I have to admit that "Carousel" is my least favourite, despite the lovely songs, simply because of its sad ending. 🙂
you have the wrong end of the stick Ollie Birch what I was indicating was as with other songs such as I'm forever blowing bubbles, they are maybe associated with football clubs now, but they are nothing to do with football in that they are scores from various musicals Liverpool Celtic West Ham etc can adopt whatever they want, as long as they never forget where the song came from, and some fans won't even realise that
This is why UK stands, we'll never walk alone. Had to many wars together we're stronger, tried fighting the Scottish before... even Romans fucked off😂😂
The orchestral arrangement of this particular performance was a bitter disappointment. To hear this played as it should be checkout the RLPO's performance under the baton of the great Carl Davis.
Being a Scouser,,,, any rendition of this amazing song is a blessing ❤️
In the Broadway musical, the lyrics was "Keep your chin up high". That was changed to "hold your head up high" in the movie, and that is the version that has been known since.
What fun these people bring.
What a fantastic show once again.Everybody having fun and waving their country’s flags.

Roger's % Hammerstein - The 2 American giants of the American theater. We love him as the world does too..

Of course they did, unfortunately Oscar did not live long enough to know how loved that song has become!
After last month, it is so ironic (not in a good way) that this song was written by Jewish boys. Liverpool do not deserve that song anymore.
@@shani1928 Agreed
I can never hear this song without thinking of the farewell to the dead of Hillsborough. It brings tears to my eyes every time.

That song means so much for Liverpool justice for 96 from a Swansea city fan
A Great British event for the people!
Inspirational song from Carousel.written by Rogers and Hammerstein.dead father singing to his daughter as she graduates school..
Wrong 100%. Billy Bigelow never sang this song. The song at the scene you mentioned was sung by the people at the ceremony, and Shirley Jones (the mother) joined in, and dead Billy urged his troublesome daughter to join in and sing, and she did.

Kippenvel moment. Prachtig gedaan. Voor mijn familie in Engeland. Liefs
Reminds me of the game where Celtic played Liverpool and they both belted this out fantastically, chills down my spine for both!
There is some kind of solemn, sorrowful beauty in having this song sung at at a place called Hillsborough, even though it is not the one that still causes such pain.

The away support? Well, if it's Dortmund for sure...
And we that are not interested of football love this performance too.

Try the version sung in Melbourne when LFC came down under if that does not move you-you are not alive.

if you must read the words to sing this - it is not from the heart.
Only if you mean it does it matter.

Send this to the eu
nice t c aload of Manchester people singing this is just not a scousers song knowing this is from carousel the musical first
The first musical was Oklahoma 1945
Personally I think the best rendition of this can only be performed by the kop choir at full volume , even visiting fans join in now and again
The orchestral arrangement of this particular performance was a bitter disappointment. To hear this played as it should be checkout the RLPO's performance under the baton of the great Carl Davis.
I prefer to hear it sung by The Kop
wesmatron and at Celtic
I always thought the words were You’ll never wear Cologne.

Pretty good, but not as good as sung at Anfield
Amen, from one scouser to another, there will never be anyone that will sing this better than Gerry and the pacemakers, golden
Of why does the IRA flag being wave at british soil? I’m pertaining to the Republic of Ireland flag.
One might just as well ask why the butcher's apron is waved on Irish soil but I was under the impression that there's peace in Ireland.
White britian ha ha
At least they can spell! ya muppet..theres No room for illeterates!..
Go on - don't play with 'brexit' ...hard enough for britains
Beautiful song ruined by Liverpool.
