Ramin is always respectful to the original actors. I teared up watching him sing "You alone can make my song take flight" facing Michael Crawford at the POTO anniversary show

Utterly agree. met him twice, he's a beautiful, talented, humble, patient man. he would spend half an hour or more signing after finishing shows. I'm honoured to have met him and seen him. He is my Phantom, and one of my top Valjeans.

I definitely feel Valjean is forever Colms role. And Ramin killed as Phantom, not even Colm can take that away from him. Both incredible performers this is such a beautiful rare piece.
Fun trivia time - ALW was originally writing the role of The Phantom with Colm Wilkinson in mind, but then Colm took the role of Jean Valjean in the London production of Les Miserables, which was the first English language production of that show. "Bring Him Home" wasn't in the original French version; it was written specifically to take advantage of Colm's incredible high range. Colm Wilkinson DID go on to play The Phantom in the Toronto production, along with Rebecca Caine, who had played Cosette in London, as Christine. And an adolescent boy from Toronto named Ramin Karimloo went to see that show god knows how many times, and decided that he was going to be in musicals one day too.

It's nice to know that Mr. Karimloo IS as nice as he seems. I've watched him in dozens of videos now, and he always seems to be doing kind, respectful gestures towards his fellow performers: his stepping back to allow Mr. Wilkinson to take center stage in this performance is a prime example of his humility and grace. As always, Colm Wilkinson is magnificent.
When Colm Wilkerson says you're a good person that says a lot. We all know you are. But he chose to mention it at a special time. Thank you. Ramin you're the best .
That last note remains damn freaky, even after heard it for so many times - There have been a good lot of splendid Jean Valjeans-performances after Colm Wilkinson's but none of them ever 'cracks' that note the way he does. You are quite right. Some singers lose the clarity and power of their voice as they grow older, particular as they enter their 70s, so their voice is only a shadow. However, Colm's voice hasn't lost any of its power and quality.
Part of that is a natural gift, and part is that he takes exquisite care of his voice. He won't even eat spicy foods, drink coffee or alcohol, or be in a room with secondhand smoke. Colm Wilkinson is a truly dedicated artist, protecting his art.
Standing on the stage and seeing your idol who inspired your career complementing you in front of the audience and then doing a duet with him... I did not know such a good fortune is possible to have.

Colm Wilkinson always seems so modest, humble and appreciative when he sings and when the audience applauds. It's clear he appreciate the audience and doesn't take his fans for granted. Nice change from many of the egotistical celebrities out there! Ramin is an excellent Valjean but one thing I don't like about his make-up/costume is that it hides his normal adorable self. The make-up is so good, it's hard to tell he's Ramin.
So does the Phantom makeup, and he is *damn* sexy in that role! Ramin seems to be learning the same beautiful humility from his mentor as well. What a gift, to see and hear the legend and his protege together!
Ramin's voice gives me chills EVERY DANG TIME. He has a special place in my heart. Colm Wilkinson is also amazing, a wonderful fit for the role of Jean Valjean. This is an amazing video. WOW.
Ramin has a younger man's power and control, but Colm's voice has a depth and richness that cannot be imitated. The one thing that I feel Colm has over any other performer in both Les Mis and Phantom is his ability to convey the psychological truth of the moment in any given scene. Some people think that the choices Colm makes are too broad, but personally, musical theatre is supposed to be heightened to the threshold of credibility, to play the emotional truth of each moment and no one has ever done it so well. With all due respect to Ramin, Colm is Val Jean, and (with respect to Crawford and Ramin) he is the Phantom.
They're just both so wonderful! I adore Ramin and saw him live as Jean valjean, so I'm a little biased towards him, but Colm was the first valjean I ever loved!
Ramon Karimloo makes a good Valjean but after nearly 30 years Colm Wilkinson's still got it. My hate goes off to the both of them. This was an awesome performance by two great singers and actors!!! Just fantastic! Truly fantastic!!!
They are both beyond wonderful. To me, Colm will always be Valjean, just as Ramin will always be the Phantom, but both can do almost anything. And how humble of Ramin to step back and let Colm have the final note. You don't see that kind of humility often.
I love the way that the man and woman in the cast, slightly to the left of Colm, look at each other and smile 3mins 43 seconds in. They link arms knowing that they are listening to greatness and completely savour the moment together. Perfection!
I had the pleasure of seeing Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean 33 years ago and he has captivated me in the role ever since ... and he'll always be the original and best as far as I'm concerned ... but damn, Ramin is a very close second!
Seriously audience.......you clapped and cheered OVER Colm Wilkinson singing the final note of 'Bring Him Home'......??? I can scarcely believe it.......to be so fortunate to witness him singing and you just obliterate it with noise. That the cast joined in was so disappointing too, although I see one lady on the right demonstrating the required respect for this legendary performer and song.....thank you ma'am.
Two Phantoms and two Valjeans. Karimloo is a great in his own right and stands next to Colm as the best Valjeans I've heard and he and Sierra Boggess were epic together in PoTO. This duet is amazing. Love the respect for Colm he showed. If Ramin can learn to feel the songs the way Colm does he'll be just as legendary.
Wow, wow, wow! Let's put another comment on here and bring it up in everyone's feed! These two are just incredible. I 'grew up' listening to Colm's Valjean (over and over and over), but when I made it to Broadway to see the renewed version, it was Ramin I saw. Wow, wow, wow! again!
They cut out the Colm Wilkinson twerking bit! Aw. Oh well. I had the privilege of being there that night and it was so wonderful. Everyone in the audience was crying during the duet, and it was an emotional night to begin with.It was so special and I still can't believe I got to see the one of the Broadway legends on stage with my favourite legend in training!
I'm very lucky indeed! I saw it a couple of times while it was in town, but this was probably one of the best performances. And yes, they brought him out at the end! I don't remember if that's what they do for each performance but I made sure to keep an eye out for Colm.
no, traditionally Fantine and Eponine are at his death, I think replacing Eponine with the Bishop was done for the first time in the film And WHAT? Colm twerking?? Hopefully someone with a mobile took a video?
Technically i don't see Ramin as legend in training, more like he's taking the new place for Colm and all the other original Valjean's and he's going to change the musical history and make something very beautiful and brilliant out of his career. And also don't forget he became a new legendary Phantom as well (and Colm being my favorite original phantom as well) lolzx but Ramin is truly amazing and so is Colm, I know that he made the original Valjean's very proud!
I fell in love with Les Miserables when it first came to Broadway and could never imagine anyone besides Colm Wilkinson truly inhabiting the role of Jean Valjean. Ramin is the one true successor to the throne. The purity and power of their voices, especially when combined, is the stuff of goosebumps. How I wish I could have been in this audience!!
I liked Colm when I first heard him from my home in County Westmeath representing Ireland In the Eurovision song contest in 1978 in 'Born to Sing'. Not only did I love his singing but I loved his dressing style. My poor Mother was in shock with my taste back then. I have been in love with his voice and personaility ever since. This is from a farming child from Westmeath.
I was there, and I could not believe how people started applauding before the end of the song- we came to the show to hear THIS, I do not think people realize that it is so disrespectful, my daughter and I held out until the end, but we were in the minority.
Phil Cx having said that, the crowd was so enthused that night, it was difficult for any amount of appreciation to be contained, when Colm walked on stage, the crowd erupted, even when they announce the substitutions before the show started the crowd cheard, I think most of us were hoping for more than one song at the encore, but we all truly enjoyed the experience of see Colm on stage again with Les Mis,
+Maria Llamanator That's his signature piece, and his signature ending. It wasn't meant to be disrespectful...it was sheer enthusiasm for seeing a legendary moment in person.

I love the way that the man and woman in the cast, slightly to the left of Colm, look at each other and smile 3mins 43 seconds in. They link arms knowing that they are listening to greatness and completely savour the moment together. Perfection!
yes I definitely cried at the end
I had the pleasure of seeing Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean 33 years ago and he has captivated me in the role ever since ... and he'll always be the original and best as far as I'm concerned ... but damn, Ramin is a very close second!
I think Ramin is already huge star. love his voice.
Seriously audience.......you clapped and cheered OVER Colm Wilkinson singing the final note of 'Bring Him Home'......???
I can scarcely believe it.......to be so fortunate to witness him singing and you just obliterate it with noise.
That the cast joined in was so disappointing too, although I see one lady on the right demonstrating the required respect for this legendary performer and song.....thank you ma'am.
forgive them they were overwhelmed. And I think the cast took their cue from Ramin.
So true, tbh
That happened when I saw the show live on tour with Nick Cartell as Jean Valjean the clapping made me so angry
Beautifull just pure delight.
RAMIN AND COLM
I yelled at the computer when I heard the clapping over him singing the final note! Arrgghh! It's just rude.
Beautiful gave me a lump in my throat
Two Phantoms and two Valjeans. Karimloo is a great in his own right and stands next to Colm as the best Valjeans I've heard and he and Sierra Boggess were epic together in PoTO. This duet is amazing. Love the respect for Colm he showed. If Ramin can learn to feel the songs the way Colm does he'll be just as legendary.
Colm enraptured by Ramin........What people live life to feel and experience. A legend recognizing a another.
To all the health workers of the NHS, thank you for all your dedication, may you be safe
Colm Wilkinson - the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.
Wow, wow, wow! Let's put another comment on here and bring it up in everyone's feed! These two are just incredible. I 'grew up' listening to Colm's Valjean (over and over and over), but when I made it to Broadway to see the renewed version, it was Ramin I saw. Wow, wow, wow! again!
WOW!!!!!!!!
Do i need to say how lucky you are?
Tell me, did they bring back the Bishop for the Valjean's death duet like they did in the film?
I'm very lucky indeed! I saw it a couple of times while it was in town, but this was probably one of the best performances.
And yes, they brought him out at the end! I don't remember if that's what they do for each performance but I made sure to keep an eye out for Colm.
no, traditionally Fantine and Eponine are at his death, I think replacing Eponine with the Bishop was done for the first time in the film
And WHAT? Colm twerking?? Hopefully someone with a mobile took a video?
Technically i don't see Ramin as legend in training, more like he's taking the new place for Colm and all the other original Valjean's and he's going to change the musical history and make something very beautiful and brilliant out of his career. And also don't forget he became a new legendary Phantom as well (and Colm being my favorite original phantom as well) lolzx but Ramin is truly amazing and so is Colm, I know that he made the original Valjean's very proud!
The Bishop twerking?! I just can't ....... you have made my night :)
You know how good he (Ramin) is when the other actors behind him all have their jaws on the floor.....
Just hearing these two musical legends sing together is just breathtaking. Love them!
I never tire of hearing Colm Wilkinson singing Bring Him Home
I liked Colm when I first heard him from my home in County Westmeath representing Ireland In the Eurovision song contest in 1978 in 'Born to Sing'. Not only did I love his singing but I loved his dressing style. My poor Mother was in shock with my taste back then. I have been in love with his voice and personaility ever since. This is from a farming child from Westmeath.
An incredible rendition! Wonderful tribute to Ramin Karimloo who not only more than holds his ground but is clearly the crown prince.
There is no one like Colm Wilkinson. He is the best and always will be.
Such beautiful voices. Gives me chills.
What a class act. Ramin letting Colm finish. Respect for the past. Way to go!
I’ve just found Ramin what a profound treat. ❤❤❤
Its nerve-wracking...Ramin is such an amazing singer and actor but to me nothing sings this song the way Colm Wilkinson sings it...truly fantastic!
Colm Wilkinson is Jean Valjean!
This is so sweet. Ramin and Colm singing together!
Colm Wilkinson you still have it. Such a rich vibrant voice.
I just want to hug the guy in the back who´s about to cry and share the feels with him.
I’ve watched this so many times and it always gives me chills. Two beautiful voices.
Oh... my...goodness!!! Their voices together is absolute harmonious!! I love Colm Wilkinson's reaction when Ramin started singing.
Almost medicine, prayerful...love it!
Ramin's voice is so rich and Colm's is so characteristically Jean Valjean. You do not need to choose-both are perfection. What a perfect duet!
COLM!!!!!! That ending gives me chills.... why did they start applaudig at the beginning?
It wasn't meant to be disrespectful...it was sheer enthusiasm for seeing a legendary moment in person.
kamwrites yeah... i guess i understands their enthusiasm... it would be hard for me not to do the same thing if i were there...
This performance was amazing, their voices blend so well together! Hearing it just melted me. These two are amazing performers
Colm was the priest in the movie version of les mis
Colm is the man!
Ramin.......yes, KING.. SING!!!!!!! my heart....it cant take this.....
I'm now in floods.of tears, that was beautiful.
Can't describe in one word how awesome this is! Colm and Ramin - *faints
Bravo beautiful song. Performed by two greats. Doesn't get any better.
❤❤❤❤
Ramin is brilliant but this is Colms song and nobody can do it like he does
Beautiful
