Alfie Boe casually scratching his neck while holding that power note was pretty cool.
same opinion ^^
Ikr! It was awesome! Another reason why I luv him!
LIKE A BOSS 😎
IKR I WAS LIKE DANG SON
Abi Alston
I love when Ramin comes in and hes just like "yeah, move."
nick Jonas must have surely felt like going home after he stated singing lol
Yup and I love it, he gives me chills from his voice
That Lea Salonga.
That anime avitar u use .
Amit Singh Someone drew my avatar on a game website. :)
That's hot
Platonic Purple Panda She couldn't really hit the high note though
capscoach Which high note?
I feel so bad for Nick when Ramin comes in. His voice is completely dwarfed by the power and quality of Ramin's voice and you can barely hear Nick
I dont tbh, he knows what he is getting into. If he doesnt his voice covered then he should deal with it. These are singers that have been singing mostly longer than he has been alive.
No lie there
Nick is not a musical performer. That is the reason
@@RyanFlanagan23 it’s not that he isn’t a musical performer, it’s just that he’s really not on the same level of a lot of the incredible vocalists he’s performing with. He’s really not bad at all, he just doesn’t sound as good in comparison.
wasnt he cast for eye candy?
Lea Salonga was Eponine with Colm Wilkinson and Michael Ball. She came back as Fantine 😭😭😭my fangirl heart.
It was Francis Ruffielle who was the original Eponine
Leah Salonga's voice is so amazing. Such talent!!!!
Arlene De Castro you know I had to find a place to say what is it that makes anyone think that criticizing , some of the cast is a good thing to do. please. I actually have seen the tenth and 25th anniversary and whilst I would love it to be the whole production on CD or CD Rom. I think if everyone tried to look at the actual physical. emotional, vocal, thinking and spiritual input as a whole I do think. that this incredible production would touch our hearts in the most awesome way. I love Michael Ball...I actually adore him ( and then some!) it took a while for me to adjust to the new cast. there is no doubt it is as far as I and so many millions are concerned the most spectacular musical ever put on anywhere is this. I am a believer of Jesus Christ..I think that this is not an in your face thing. However it shows a man's journey and those he meets. my favourite character is Eponine. the latest. but I listen and watch daily because of how it reminds me of where I have come from.
She really is; a Broadway princess...
GOAT
0:34 I love how he's belting such a power note, yet casually scratches himself XD
lol 😂😂
That's Alfie for you
I was reacting just like Lea lol
hot as
Lea Salonga's voice is soo angelic ... she's soo incredible no matter what song in this musical she performs!!
First thing I ever saw Ramin in, first thing I ever saw Norm in, first thing I ever saw Lea in, first thing I ever saw Alfie Boe in. Who knew what I was stumbling upon.
Me too!
Superstars!
Lea was a wonderful Eponine in the 10th anniversary!
I had seen Lea in Chess many years ago. I've been a Les Mis fan since it came out (theatre geek and I graduated HS in '85, so it shaped all the audition pieces for my college days) Finding Alfie was a pleasure, and Ramin, too!
Alfie at 0:26! Clear, strong, perfectly on pitch, hands on his hips, head scratch -- easy as pie If this is what he sounded like in rehearsal, no wonder he blew everyone away at the shows. Best Valjean I've ever heard.
I know right?? I was like "Whoa!!" with mouth open. Haha! Best ever!
And remember what the vocal director was saying in this "Now, it's only a sitzprobe..." And then there's Alfie...
Is it just me who thinks about how Sam must have felt singing Leas iconic “original” part while lea is watching?
Oh definitely! My knees would've been shaking!😬
From everything I've seen and heard about Lea Salonga, she's gracious and supportive. Did you see her give that huge whooping YES when Alfie hit that note and just stood there so casually?
Lea's supportive of Sam. She even retwitted a post about the Les Mis movie when she found out that Sam would portray her character in the big screen.
Is it just me... or do a lot of people... watched this video... just to see/hear Ramin Karimloo?
Hello Pussy
He plays Enjolras, basically in Les Mis 25th anniversary.
me o/
+Amor Marayag yup (me)
MEEEEEEE♡
+Hello Pussy He sings at 4:45
Lea Salonga as Fantine is just incredible casting. I also love Samantha as Eponine.
Love the fact that after Alfie's power note, Lea fist bumps the aie and Matt Lucas is just bowing down to Alfie.
Also, anyone notice that Alfie Boe is the only person NOT wearing an orange identification bracelet? He's just so awesome that everyone knows who he is. XD
3:30 ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY INTERRUPT RAMIN SINGING!!!!
its called MASTURBATION.
Weird comment. Creepy actually.
Ramin the legendary phantom over here just absolutely blasting his voice over nick. 😂😂😂😂😂 They really should've thought this casting through a little better, hmmm let's see....... Let's make Ramin Karimloo, the greatest Phantom of the Opera to ever live, sing alongside a Jonas Brother. Wtf was going through their heads?
Ramin and Michael Ball at the end of the DVD performance were much better matched, that was amazing
It might've been for ticket sales or higher ratings
Thatperformer387 I totally agree with you!!!
Get out, Ramin is great but not the “greatest Phantom to ever live”, you probably haven’t even heard half of them. 🙄
@@melissam597 I actually agree, why do I seem to be the only one who can't stand his loudass breaths?
It just wouldn't be Les Mis without Lea Salonga.
OMG, Alfie Boe. :DD I love the complete disconnect between the voice and the appearance. He seems so serious and epic on the stage... it's just so funny seeing him in a t-shirt and jeans, all casual and relaxed.... and still singing just as amazingly.
He looks like when he gets to that last note he's just like "okay I'm done, now I'll just relax and hold this for a while".
0:33 Cause Alfie just don't give a fuck
"Nick Jonas is my favorite Marius" said no one ever
Abi Alston I like the movie version of les mis
Also said no one is ever
Abi Alston why say that? who is your favourite Marius
Nick did a fine job for, say, a high school or college production - in my opinion. His voice just didn't match ANYONE else in this concert. All of those trained singers. The comic roles, of course, don't need fine-tuned voices, but the main roles do if you have that caliber of lead singers. He's got a nice voice, but not a great voice, and it showed.
57Strudel The 25th concert was my first time being exposed to les miserables so the cast is my favorite cast and in my opinion Nick did a great job for the amount of work he had gotten at the time doing stuff like this
The Mad Fangirl I like the movie version of les mis. What's so bad about it?
Matt Lucas's face when Ramin starts to sing at the end is me.
Hearing Ramin Karimloo singing and being such a powerhouse and at the same time hearing Nick Jonas shows how much of a difference there is between their musical genres.
When Ramin sings the word "freedom" OMG PERFECT!!!!
I feel so bad for Nick Jonas. He's like the odd one out. He's surrounded by all these singers who can project their voices all the way to the moon while he does have talent, he should've been a bit more trained for this role.
He was in multiple Broadway shows as a kid. I just think when the Jonas brothers started he lost his musical theater technique
I don't feel bad at all. He was not the right choice. There are probably people in the choir that sing better, also for me Marius is Michael Ball.
I was just watching this without knowing Nick Jonas was in it. Enjoying it all through and then this kid starts singing "I did not live until today" and I'm like what the heck? Who is the terrible singer with the nasal tone...then I recognized him. Ugg. Poor guy. Waaaaay outclassed.
I feel bad for the rest of the performers to have to bear that sour apple that is Nick Jonas amongst them.
Angello Furigay or replaced. He's out of his depth.
Alfie Boe's voice is perfection.
This was the show Ramin said he cannot do Valjean because of Alfie Boe but he was still able to do Valjean perfectly afterwards. I love Ramin's humility and dedication.
RAMIN KARMINLOO!
wow yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Martin Nievera
Matt Lucas's face at 4.48 onwards as Ramin sings is exactly what I feel everytime I hear him sing that...pure enjoyment with goosebumps!!!
I just remembered Sierra Boggess was Fantine and now i really want the trio to perform Les Mis together tbh. Hadley, Ramin and Sierra. The Trio. My cinnamon rolls.
One does not simply stop the music as Ramin Karimloo is about to begin singing...
3:25 RAMIN!!!!
3:35 awww come on you interrupted him!
4:45 THERE WE GO!!!!!
3:42 "it's a sitzprobe ... the band isn't mic'd and you're pushing it too much"
Yeah, well, you've got Alfie Boe and Ramin Karimloo in the same room. What, precisely, did you expect?
He's Ramin Karimloo - and he is perfection especially as Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera
Watching Ramin just belt it gives me chills!!! Love seeing Lea laugh, she so cute.
It's hard to give Nick Jonas some slack when this was a 25th anniversary production. It was ambitious and important. It required someone with better preparation and technique. Nick Jonas is a good kid but he wasn't at the level of performing a musical of this size. Many singers train years and years just to get to state productions, so this is what I can't just let it slide. No offense to all his fans, but let's all be honest: It wasn't good
Zero2026X they wouldn’t have picked him if they thought he couldn’t do it
Well Nick performance is not really that bad, but sounds "average" compared to high caliber performer on the set.
Agreed. Not bad, just (way) out of his league on that stage.
it's just embarrasing for the guy. I mean, his voice is good for pop songs or whatever, and he'd be decent enough for a school production, but not to starr alongside Alfie Boe, Lea Salonga, Samantha Barks, Ramin Karimloo etc in the freaking Les Mis 25th anniversary concert
Never has there been two more diverse performances for empty chairs than the pinnacle of Michael Ball at the 10th Anniversary concert and the debacle of Nick Jonas
There is so much I love about this. Firstly, Killian in a superman top :) talking to Sam and Nick at the start, Alfie's little scratch of his head while belting out BEGINNN, Matt Lucas praising him, Lea laughing at Cameron Blakely and then his weird "suffer", Killian screwing up his timing in ABC cafe, Katie Hall's brown hair, Ramin's little "move out of the way Enjys coming through" with his arms in one day more!! Love love love
Lea Salonga
I saw this in the movie theater release, and the entire cast was phenomenal, aside from poor Camp Rock Jonas. He has grown immensely, but he’s just not cut out for THIS show with THESE talented performers. Did anyone see this? At the end, the original Broadway cast joined them to sing One Day More and Michael Ball emerged and saved the role, as expected. And Frances Ruffelle was KICKIN in her little dress and heels! Poor Nick. I am a fan, don’t get me wrong, he’s just not a Broadway boy :)
I love that cast members like Lea Salonga have such history with the show
I audibly yelled at the top of my lungs BOTH times Ramin's part was either called off or CUT! He is such a fantastic singer its ridiculous
Lea Salonga's fist pump after Alfie's note! Love it.
the music in this show literally gives me the chills
Alfie is so relaxed, like this is a walk in the park. Wonderful.
Came here for Killian, Alistair, Samantha.. Stayed for Ramin,Norm,Alfie and Lea
I was lucky enough to see this particular cast live when they were at the O2 arena and I was lost for words when it was finished. The show as a whole is incredible!!!! And I have to say Matt Lucas's voice is better than what I thought it was going to be, he has a nice voice!!!
OMG the way he sings "fredoooooooom" is so phantom of the opera-like :D
*Lea Salonga and Alfie Boe 👏👏👏*
Alfie Boe, Lea Salonga and Ramin Karimloo are SPECTACULAR!
matt lucas looks like a proud dad when ramin appears
I love Ramin, his voice is so amazing!!!
So good to see Ramin with his very intense voice.
RAMIN KARIMLOO!!!!!! ❤
Bow down to the greatness that is Alfie Boe!!!!!!! That one guy did lol!!!!
0:34 casually scratching a neck while hitting that note? What kind of creature is he?
Nino Berishvili he is Alfie Boe... enough said
He is ALFIE FREAKING BOE! That's what he is. No-one even comes close to him.
Whatever kind of creature he is, he's beautiful! Looks like a rocker, sings like an angel! Ladies and gentlemen, Alfie Boe!
honestly i think nick played this part very well he has absolutely amazig voice and great character not to mention that he is really cute
+Michelle Artrup He was outmatched in every category - acting, singing, stage presence. He is an amateur surrounded by professionals at the top of their game and, unfortunately for him, it is terribly, painfully obvious. He should have realized that they had offered him the role only for the publicity and not any talent on his part, and had the dignity and integrity to turn it down for someone who actually deserved to stand on that stage.
Elizabeth L Hadley Fraser
Alfie's just like "Holding the note, holding the note, hmm my neck is itchy, still holding the note." What a badass. And I love seeing Ramin!!
0:32, I love how noncholant Alfie Boe is about the whole thing, like "Oh yeah, I'm succesfully holding one of the most difficult notes in the musical industry, nothing important." Awesome, awesome man.
love this Enjolras 😘😘😘
Novita Rosanti yup, Ramin was the phantom in the 25th anniversary of that show as well
Love how Killian casually walks around in his Superman tshirt
I might get flack for this but I actually really like Matt Lucas as Thenardier
Musical fanatic He's definitely a good thenardier, it's just that he's not the best thenardier. He's not as charming and conniving as Armstrong's Thenardier, or Brutish and disgusting as Barry's.
Hes my favorite.
he's my fave
Just casually rewinding the end part when Ramin finally starts singing.....over and over and over
4:46 I'm just here for him
i love him
Yup
I love him but when the night is over, he's gone
Look at him hit that note and scratch his neck like it's freaking effortless. There will never be another Valjean for me. He is it. I just...amg.
Alfie Boe in 3 words: Like a Boss
Katie Hall is so underrated!!!!
To me her voice is just as beautiful as Lea's!
My son has performed with Ramin- US/UK/Scotland/So Korea/Canada..what a wonderful performer!
Love the way Alfie's casually scratching his head while effortlessly singing 'begiiiin'.
Omg the last guy who sang " at the barricade to freedom" he is amazing! Such a powerhouse
Ramin Karimloo...Phantom of the Opera.
I should’ve known! I love him in the Phantom!
I applaud Nick Jones for taking on this role. Many opera and musical theatre singers use nasal tones to cut through an orchestra. Yes, he would have benefited from more training and preparation but he shined where it counted. His emoting was spot on and his focus was impeccable. I imagine he learned a lot from his cast mates.
Oh Ramin, my poor heart. He is incredible.
Returning conductor David Charles Abell... I love that man so much. Can't come CLOSE. Also, Lea and Jenny are such vetrans to this Les Mis concert thing!
I actually think Nick did fine at the role of Marius. He definitely looks the part, and he sang everything really well. He's got a nice voice for Broadway. He may have not been opera trained, but you don't really need to be for that part. He has a great tenor voice, and personally I think they made a great choice with his casting.
GamerTalks that’s what I was thinking. His softer voice brought an innocence and naive ness to the role. I kind of liked tbh.
Couldn’t disagree more. He was completely out of place in this cast.
WHY!! why did the video stop THERE of all places :(
I hear Ramin is considering playing Jean Valjean. He should do it!! When he walked out there and sang "One more day before the storm ..." in this real 25th anniversary performance, there was a huge roar from the crowd, who were so happy to see The Phantom out there again. Also, at the end of this performance, he got one of the biggest cheers from the crowd! There is a RUclips video of him singing "Let Him Live" and he is out of this world when he sings it.
And he went on to be a superb JVJ!
Never has the word "Freedoooooooom" sounded so good!
I think we should all remember that Nick Jonas was not vocally trained for musical theatre. He can sing pop songs because that's what his trainer trained him for. I bet if he got a musical theatre trainer than he wouldn't be that bad. In my opinion he should have done that before the anniversary instead of going in there with something entirely different from what he knew.
+FreeFallin119 I don't believe Ramin Karimloo had any formal training either. If I'm not wrong, he started out as a rock singer. If Nick Jonas had any self-awareness, he would have realized his limitations and stepped aside for someone who would have actually done justice to the music and his fellow cast mates. Staying on when he is THIS bad is just selfish. He wanted to be on that stage and to be a musical theatre actor without wanting to pay his dues, train and become competent. He put himself before the show and so subjected the audience to his thin wailing and shifty side-gaze. It really broke the fourth wall every time he opened his mouth. Sigh.
Elizabeth L I agree with you, Ramin's voice is gorgeous, even though he was never trained but he did have a vocal coach for sound, what music he should sing and how to sing it. They already knew he could sing theatre, but they had to find out what musicals would best suit his voice. :)
It's certainly a good thing to grow in understanding of your vocal personality and where you feel comfortable as a performer, but the place to explore that is not at the 25th anniversary of one of the most beloved musicals ever performed. He gave a performance worthy of a high school Marius at the biggest Les Mis stage in the world, and single-handedly marred the entire event for a great many fans. Basically, if you can't bring it, go home
...and come back when you've trained enough to not embarrass yourself.
my bois Ramin and Alfie making everyone around them seem untalented, two of the best les mis performers out there
Alfie Bowie scratching his neck with that powerful note. It’s just another day for him hahhaha
Alfie is a rock star...
Lea Salonga with that fist pump! And I love the composer - such swag (really) and love for the orchestration and the production.
How cool is alfie. Such an amazing talent!
Alfie Boe is the man with the voice and soul to match. To date, he is the best JVJ I have heard...just my humble opinion...
Been surpassed!
just how happy Matt Lucas was when Ramin was singing lol 4:49
Oh, Lea Salonga has such a beautiful voice!
This is a great illustration of the advice every good teacher gives to every student. NEVER rehearse, ALWAYS perform!
RAMIIIIIINNNN
Alfie Boe is really unbelievable!
Lea salonga is the best as always and i love them all talented 😍😍😍
xDDD alfie sings like it's nothing... so effortless.... O.O AMAZINGGG
After so many years, and umpteen times seeing the show, this still gives me goosebumps. What a timeless musical!
and that is Ramin Karimloo...he's amazing....
Ramin Karimloo, Lea Salonga and Alfie Boe are the only reason this was good.
Yup :)
+Talan Josef The Thenardiers are pretty damn good too. Actually, the whole cast is. Nick Jonas is the only true weak link here. It would be laughable if it wasn't so enormously insulting, both to the audience and the material. He ruins the entire performance and if I could excise him entirely from the recording, I might actually be able to watch the concert without wincing like I have a nervous tick.
+Elizabeth L but he's enough
The the level of the weakest is the level of the entire musical to viewers...
Especially if empty chairs at empty tables is one if your favourite songs...
Actually all of then were good except nick jonas(am i right?).. his singing voice is not for musical theater tbh
How about Norm Lewis (Javert)? He was excellent, too. And Katie Hall (Eponine) was very good.
Still watches this what fun it would have been to be in this room
1:03, the first when I saw this video I was like hey she is really talented who is she and God her voice is so chilling. And then when I saw the same lady singing "A Whole New World" and "Reflection" from Disney's Aladdin and Mulan respectively, (the songs that enlightened my childhood) I was like what is she, is she a Goddess? No, she is my fairy God Mother.
I'm sorry. There is one person in this cast that doesn't fit in. It's Nick Jonas. He is extremely weak compared to the other vocalists.
I agree wholeheartedly. Compared to all of the amazing talent in this cast, he is way out of his depth.
yeah i was thinking the same thing...i wasnt the only one
+Jared Miller Yes, absolutely. I think he realized it, too.
I have to agree. Although the man can SAAANNNG, I don't know if he's appropriate for the role. He's an extremely talented singer, but I have heard people that have stronger trained MUSICAL THEATER voices. But I was in LOVE with him when I was younger, and he's the only reason I watched this when it came on tv. And this started my musical theater OBSESSION!!!! Alfie Boe is my all time favorite. And whomever plays Madame Thenardier is BRILLIANT!!!!!
Jared Miller definitely
Leah goes from Eponine on the 10th to Fantine on the 25th. Both awesome versions.
Alfie is my personal Jesus, OMG he can hold that note for so long and he looks like 'yeah, whatever' THIS IS INSANE
oh my god nick's voice is so weak especially compared to ramin's.....
You can see him physically struggling to keep his voice from cracking.
More especially when he sings with Alfie ...
lilypad017 Ramins in his late 30's
@@Abpreach520 at the time he was 31
Stark contrast during the back and forth singing in one day more 😩😩
I just love how matt lucas is so excited when he watches the other singers incl. Alfie and Ramin. I would totally fangirl if I was there too hehe
one does not simply interrupt ramin when he’s singing
watched Boe's cast last Xmas in NYC, which was beyond amazing!
