I use Super Tech (same as Amazon Basics & Kirkland) Full Synthetic oil & change it out every 5,000 miles. Project Farm has done the best test of synthetic oil that I have seen, and he also uses these products. When I switched from using conventional oil changed every 3,000 miles to synthetic oil changed every 5,000 miles, I started using Purolator ONE oil filters (rated 10,000 miles & 20 microns). I find these filters on sale at a local Farm & Fleet store in my area. I wouldn't hesitate to use a Fram Tough Guard in a pinch. If I was going beyond 5,000 mile oil changes, I would use the Purolator Boss or Fram Utra Synthetic oil filter. From everything I have seen the past few years, these filters are quite tough. Your clips don't dispute that. The Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter for under $9 @ Walmart is probably the best value in oil filters. The Wix XP is also tough, but the 35 micron rating is a knock on it. Summary: 5,000 miles & under - Purolator ONE or Fram Tough Guard. Over 5,000 miles - Purolator Boss or Fram Ultra Synthetic. I am not saying other oil filters are bad.

One other point like buying generic meds instead of name brand part of the additional price is in quality control. They may run the super tech line at a certain mph with little to no checks to meet Walmart price point where's when their built for ac Delco the line is scrutinized more more filters pulled off for QC which means a few more dollars at the store. Supertech uses stp and fram depending on who gives the better deal, carquest is stp, napa filters are wix, advanced auto is usually carquest or fram, and I believe for o riely's house brand it's Purolator

I have a 2013 Honda Cr-z and since I purchased it , I’ve used super tech filter and oil . I have 172,010 miles and never has the filter leak or given any issues with the motor oil as well. There hasn’t been any issues associated with the use of super tech products while I use them in my car. I also use them on my wife’s 2007 honda element and that has 268,000 plus miles and no problem as well. My neighbor as well uses it and to this date has no complaints on his and children’s cars.. So unless you use them and try them out, cutting them open and looking is not a fair product review. Hopefully this helps. Try at your own risk..

This older version of the Super Tech looks exactly like the old standard STP filters. I think you got a manufacturing defect unit because the filter end caps are glued to the filter media top and bottom and yours has two layers of the fiber end caps glued together. The Super Tech ST filter that I cut open did not look like yours. The fiber end caps were glued to the filter media. The "Bypass" valve is somewhat of a mystery to me and is exactly like the one in the older standard STP filters. I think if the filter gets clogged the oil pressure will deform the anti drain back valve which will open up the smaller holes in the base plate and allow the oil to get sucked into the oil inlet tube. Kind of a rinky dinky design. We used to use AC Delco filters when they made them themselves or at least had a different supplier make them. Now they are very similar to the STP filters or Champion labs filters.

@@WhipCityWrencher it's a great video first off .. the Supertech filter line up due to its limited size often use one filter to cover several different size and application filters ... For example st6607 is recommended to be used for or instead of (fram) ph6607 ph7317. .... St10060 is to be used for pf64, Pf48e .. The Supertech line is an economy line filter with limited choices that are spread out to generally cover as many applications as it can. Bottom line is everyone should do their homework to know what works best for their vehicle. I'll throw a wrench in to this and say I would opt for the larger longer filter for this application and that would be pf63e or the st10575. That would be a good video as well.

It use to be Champ Labs, but MANN + HUMMEL has taken over. Look up their warranty, & you will find it's a MANN + HUMMEL/Purolator product now. Fram Ultra Synthetic & Purolator Boss may be the best oil filters offered in the United States currently. I do 5,000 mile oil changes.
