Grace's first album name "Perfectly Imperfect"I believe came from a quote by Simon Cowell after one of her AGT performances stating "that the performance wasn't perfect but that is what made her Perfect" I have always thought that is a good way to describe the way Grace sings. She has a way composing a song that is not the norm, but makes it work beautifully. Thanks for the reaction, hope you do more Grace
This song is the best written song I've ever heard, and she wrote it when she was 13 yrs old. Mind blowing artist. Her lyrics are unmatched in today music by others who don't feel the lyrics the way Grace does. Her newest EP Letters Vol 1 is a must. And her song Stray is unmatched by any other artist today. She just posted her song Lungs, live on IG. Please react to these when you have time. Thank you for you great review of this amazing artist!!
Grace has one of those unique and recognizable voices. You've only heard her a couple times now, and I bet if you are out and hear one of her other songs playing on the radio, you are going to say, "hey that's Grace!". She's not necessarily a singer's singer... meaning there's not a lot of advanced techniques, or huge range, or crystal clear tones... but she does have the most important thing... there's a soul behind her voice. I have probably made it clear that my favorite singer is someone else, but Grace has been right up there in my list of favorites from the very first time I heard her.
Since it's still Winter, you might want to clear up congestion by flushing the old waterworks with happy tears while watching her debut on America's Got Talent where she wins the golden buzzer. Most of us Grace followers first got hooked on her with that RUclips video. I personally got hooked on a lot of Reactors who reacted to that one, too! Great reactions and analyses, Maunalee!
Grace is a quirky little creature, endearing and then enticing you into wondering what's next. This wasn't her best recording but it has a certain rawness that was easily listenable.
Wow. The Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) is strong. I absolutely loved them. His lyrics were what made that band. They were so dark and and insightful and they reached within you wrenched with your emotions. That is absolutely Grace as well. I never made the lyrical connection between Adam and Grace before. Also, his dead-pan vocals were very unique as well.
She’s sixteen now, I believe she wrote this at 12-13 about a romance movie she saw, and she performed this at 14! She has this insane ability to put herself in others shoes to pull the emotion out of it, and now that she’s getting older it’s just getting better. You should listen to her new album!! It’s absolutely amazing and she’s about to be huge in a couple of years!!
Thank you for reacting to Grace , this is why I said she writes and sings for all ages , I see it had the same affect on you as it did on me when I first heard it
She is the real deal. Next do clearly and stray. Then Letters Volume 1. Great reaction. I think the word best to describe her vocals is authentic. Not fabricated fake pop voices that sound like a million other voices. She has also a very distinctly recognizable voice. When u hear her voice u know it’s her.
Glad you saw Grace at her best. This is why people are crazy about her, because she can transmit emotions through beautifully crafted lyrics and melodies. To write a song like this at 13 is mindblowing. Beautiful Thing(a song about her sister) often makes me cry. One of the most heartfelt, beautiful love songs I've ever heard--written at the age of 12. Phenomenal. If you want to hear her latest I would strongly suggest Poser, The City, and I Don't Like You. Reflects her growing maturity as an artist and her increased participation on the production side of things. She just turned 16 in January. Also, her performance of Today and Tomorrow on Kimmel(that she wrote for Stargirl) is also great. And then there's...too many great songs to mention them all here.
The phenomena that is Grace Vanderwaal! The look on your face while trying not to cry was priceless. Great reaction. And have fun experiencing Grace Vanderwaal.
Listen to her new ep letters vol I, she was 13 when she wrote darkness keeps chasing me she was 14 in the video she is 16 now. Darkness is off her album just the beginning there is another song on the album called a better life she wrote it for her brother going through a drug addiction. Grace has had two albums in the top 25 and has won over 5 music awards including billboards rising star award she is a fender signature artist for the ukelele they made two ukuleles in her name. She is on billboards 21 under 21 for four years in a row and on Forbes 30 under 30 for music. She has achieved alot despite not being pushed onto mainstream radio yet she says she has time and wants to enjoy being a kid.
Please react to The Story of Lucy Grace Vanderwaal. She wrote the song "Beautiful Thing" that's used in the video when she was 12. It's unreal how talented a writer she is at such a young age. You won't be disappointed.
LOL her eyes open, I must warn though if you let the true spirit of music into your heart...................she will remain there forever. Well said and from the heart thank you for that Maualee Thumbs up You will find that she is not nationally syndicated in media and radio. The grace fan base is loyal and they flock to platforms with her content like moths to flame LOL which you're about to find out. Anyway welcome aboard the Grace journey, she is truly one of a kind. Health and happiness to you and yours.
You’ve just joined a long line of reactors who, while listening to Darkness, sat silently in their chair, staring off into unknown spaces and holding back tears as they slowly get sucked into the emotional vortex which Grace creates whenever she performs this hauntingly beautiful melody.
Regarding the part when Grace says "if I hear your voice I might just...." the original version had the missing word as "cry" but Grace decided that she didn't like that so since then she has always omitted that word in every performance. Please listen to some of her later stuff including off the latest EP "Letters Vol. 1" There are some amazing tracks which all seem to revolve around a relationship from the beginning to the end - Grace is always able to make songs everyone, regardless of age, can relate to. In a word she is amazing! And thanks for the reaction.
@@Paul-D-Hoff I cannot see any reason for her doing this? I just looked up "watermarking" and, as I thought, it sounds a lot more than removing a single word "Watermarking is a process where the composer inserts a sound or spoken word (such as 'preview') every few seconds when exporting a track. This prevents tracks from being stolen - or 'ripped' - because they're useless to the end user." I have read the explanation for the removal of the word "cry" many times on different sites, reactions etc as stated in my post . But we can just agree to disagree on this one.
@@jakherer I'm not going to around and around on this. These were done before the song was released and since it is her song she can change the word. Also how others watermark means nothing to how she has.
Welcome to the VanderVerse! As you have noticed here, Grace has the uncanny ability to rip the top of your head off and muck about with your emotions with her voice. This song was knocked together in the time remaining in an afternoon studio session after completing the planned work. Loved your reaction! Some suggestions - starting with a pair of covers: ruclips.net/video/CccMZxkqS0Q/видео.html her cover of Leon Bridges "River" at 13 ruclips.net/video/9I38CP9TCdU/видео.html her cover of "In My Blood" by Shawn Mendes at 14 ruclips.net/video/VQODLWSiyys/видео.html performance and acceptance speech, Billboard Rising Star Award, 2017 - age 13 ruclips.net/video/k7rqVanT1pM/видео.html Grace provided the only audio in this Windex commercial; her song "Beautiful Thing", written at age 12 about her relationship with her sister Olivia There are a lot more, but these whill show her poise, writing, and singing ability at the start of her career.
Grace is the real deal. You should watch her agt videos and her new song from star girl . She uses so much emotion. I cry some times when I listen to her
"Lungs" was a bonus track on the "Just the Beginning" release in Target stores exclusively, along with "Hope for Change". Both are outstanding, but "Lungs" is otherworldly. She wrote all those songs in "Perfectly Imperfect" and "Just the Beginning" before her 15th birthday.
Loved your reaction, best part was you listened to the whole song, without pausing every couple of seconds to speak like a lot of other reaction videos do. Young Grace is amazing, look forward to you seeing more of her, think I'll subscribe now :-)
Thank you, thank-you-We see that you get it now. If you would like to see one that you will not be able to hold back the sobbing on, try "In my blood" a Sean Mendes cover. She makes every cover her own to the point that the original singers agree that her version is better.
She actually had a cold during this performance. Listen to the studio version. But I have to say you are just scratching the surface of what she has available out there. You should react to her song Today and Tomorrow from the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Just her and her ukulele, it’s very different than this but beautiful. You’ll get a sense of ability to hypnotize an audience. I’m glad you found her!
Not a cold, she told the interviewer that she had some hot chocolate and doritos before coming there. And of you are a singer they teach you not to consume any dairy products or drink any cold water before a performance. It makes you sound very nasal and strained.
Two things that, I think, will give Grace a long career. Her lyrics and the variety in her music. Listen to any singer/band but especially composer/players and variety is the common link.
You can always tell it is Grace, but all similarities end at that. No song sounds like another. Grace's writing skills are unmatched. Grace's voice skills CANNOT be matched. She is simply the best ever at both. It is just my opinion.
I'd like to see/hear your reaction to Grace Vanderwaal's cover of Leon Bridges 'River' on MTV PUSH. She was barely 14 years old. Also, she does a great rendition of Johnny Nash's 'Clearly'. I' surprised at the number of followers you have but haven't heard much on Grace!
Love Maunalee's reaction thru out the song you can see it grabs her and pulls her in, the emotion Grace puts in a song is amazing. Maunalee search RUclips for maybe this could be something or her cover of Leon bridges song river.
Good call on the Counting Crows reference for this song. She sings a song from her movie on Jimmy Kimmel live that's really good Thirteen if you get chance. A really good Grace song is A Better Life the fender addition, it's absolutely beautiful, good review, you got the Vanderwaal goosebumps, won't be the last time
Haha...nice reaction. You walked right into the tons of protective GV fans your last review of So Much More Than This. Hope you take the time to watch/listen to her newer songs. She's going to be around a while.
I feel better now. What you said about So Much More Than This was maybe true but I felt you were missing what is extraordinary about her. This was a great great reaction. I could see and feel you being moved by this very beautiful and powerful song. You are getting Grace it seems to me. Not being a patron I guess I can’t suggest one for your next review. But just in case consider Today and Tomorrow on Jimmy Kimmel, recently. Thee are many many great songs. Thanks!
I think you should check out the album version with cello and guitar and a kick ass mic. The outdoor hand held is gained down so much we miss a lot of her inflection and color of her whole notes. That and Lungs
Thank you for your reaction. and glad you made it here hopefully you have more time to explore/enjoy more gr@ce's songs and covers.. you won't be disappointed Earlier material "Beautiful Thing( Lucy Windex Video) commercial I believe it's one of those songs that will stand the test of time
Yes, I liked this one. It was simply Grace and the guitar. Clear and present where you can feel close to her. It was more like her AGT audition in I Don't Know My Name but seemed more mature. I'm not sure why but, for some reason, Michael Bolton came to mind while I was listening to this. There's something about her that invoked that image. Your silent facial contortions said all that needed to be said in this reaction. 🥰🥰🥰
I loved your reaction. Its OK to admit if you felt tears welling up. It happens to all of us (and you just became a fan by reacting that way). It even happened to me here after having watched that video dozens of times. And you know, another reason for tears goes beyond the power of that song in particular, but the realization that you may be listening to perhaps one of the greatest artists to emerge in decades. It can be overwhelming :) As for her not having blown up yet - it is sad but the 16-34yo demographic is the key one for marketing, and it is too difficult to wean many of them off of mainstream pop. It is sad how many just think her voice sounds funny and will not take it any further than that.
she is 16 now, she signed for Simon Cowell after she won AGT but it seems they dont interfer to much in her work, seems she does her own thing even with them in the background
@@Paul-D-Hoff Simon is smart enough to know a contract with a child's parents has little to do with control of the child, especially a girl as independent and free spirited as Grace.
Simon said that she is one of the few people that he trusts. I believe he meant her competence. I think he made it clear to people that her vision of what is good is to be trusted. I think Simon knows she has ability and drive and that he is not a teenager in today's world. He has also said that he learns more from his son than his son learns from him. That is probably an exaggeration but I am sure he does learn from his son.
That is one of her best... but she has so many really good songs.... and sometimes, it just takes hearing them a few time,to let them grow on you. I don't find her Juvenile;.... I find her almost ageless, cause all ages seem to like her..... For example, I'm a Senior, and got my son [in his late 30's ] to start listening to her. She will be VERY FAMOUS as her career develops. Stay Safe Everybody.... Practice safe distancing... It may save your life, and many others...
She loves Denver ,she did a couple of concerts here on the Blue Bird teather, one for the Just the biggining tour and other for Ur so beautiful tour ,another on Red rocks amphitheatre whit imagine dragons and one on Fort Collins whit the ur so beautiful tour, all four amazing
Omg! So the whole time, I'm listening to this talented young Lady..I kept going back too P.Apple's records as well. Her lyrics and style held a similar vibe or feeling. Hell, think about it? To be at such a tender, young age. It was like she had this certain wisdom that only the true test of time and life's journey would or could only bring. "BUT AGAIN," both Ladies are and were, very young in their careers, writing music. Before teen age yrs. Like several lifetimes have passed between them both. (Shakeshead) In my opinion, there's only a certain hand full of individuals that are just born with a rare gift. This absolute ability, to touch others with their words, through music, through out history. I'm just grateful to have stumbled upon some of these gifted people in my lifetime. Thank God for our younger generation, still representing! {MS.L}💞

I saw the song grab you! Saw you sniffle too. One non-song to check out is Grace's acceptance speech at the billboards for rising star. It gives you a real feel for her poise. Also, she has a personal channel, "oh shut up it's just me" she has covers she did when she was 11. Like X's and O's, I'd recommend finding a video with her AGT performances on them, and finally, watch the video from Windex, the story of Lucy. On this one, tissues are a must. BTW: You have a delightful smile!
I got a very *PINK* vibe (when she does those deep, *personal* songs), from this song. From the structure, to just the way Grace held herself during the performance. If she can maintain that kind raw emotion, she should surpass her twit pop peers (Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Carly Jepson, etc), and be counted amongst the likes of the Alanis Morissettes, Nina Simones, KD langs, and Sara McLaclans and so on, of the industry. The *"SONGSTRESSES"*
Grace was 13 when she wrote this gem. She could have retired then and there, as far as I 'm concerned. Maybe take the time to listen to the entire album because it's brilliant. I cried the first time I heard this and several times thereafter. ruclips.net/video/swTki-Klk3g/видео.html

She gets it all right. Her lyrics and the way they are set to music is simple genius. Absolutely artistic.
It’s absolutely amazing and she’s about to be huge in a couple of years!!
she's deep
@@geoffreysantos2351 Intelligent, talented and beautiful. Yes, she is extremely DEEP!
Great reaction. I agree with you. Grace is an incredible talent and a gift to the music industry and all of us.........
She has once in a lifetime talent, many other great performances, her live stuff in small venues usually shines the brightest, enjoy
The phenomena that is Grace Vanderwaal! The look on your face while trying not to cry was priceless. Great reaction. And have fun experiencing Grace Vanderwaal.
good choice, cant believe she wrote this at 12 or 13 i think, her voice is perfectly imperfected =)
She wrote and sang this at 13 years of age. Grace is the best! Intelligent, caring, and such a great artist.
She also has some amazing covers... those are also a treat.
All tracks Will blow your mind
#LETTERSVOL1
Sorry, but she was watermarking the song. She has done that with other songs leaving a word out.
@@Paul-D-Hoff I cannot see any reason for her doing this? I just looked up "watermarking" and, as I thought, it sounds a lot more than removing a single word
"Watermarking is a process where the composer inserts a sound or spoken word (such as 'preview') every few seconds when exporting a track. This prevents tracks from being stolen - or 'ripped' - because they're useless to the end user."
I have read the explanation for the removal of the word "cry" many times on different sites, reactions etc as stated in my post . But we can just agree to disagree on this one.
@@jakherer I'm not going to around and around on this. These were done before the song was released and since it is her song she can change the word. Also how others watermark means nothing to how she has.
She changed it because she has publicly stated...... She does not cry about life.
"Darkness Keeps Chaising Me" will always be my favorite sad song ever!
Welcome to the VanderVerse! As you have noticed here, Grace has the uncanny ability to rip the top of your head off and muck about with your emotions with her voice. This song was knocked together in the time remaining in an afternoon studio session after completing the planned work. Loved your reaction!
Some suggestions - starting with a pair of covers:
ruclips.net/video/CccMZxkqS0Q/видео.html her cover of Leon Bridges "River" at 13
ruclips.net/video/9I38CP9TCdU/видео.html her cover of "In My Blood" by Shawn Mendes at 14
ruclips.net/video/VQODLWSiyys/видео.html performance and acceptance speech, Billboard Rising Star Award, 2017 - age 13
ruclips.net/video/k7rqVanT1pM/видео.html Grace provided the only audio in this Windex commercial; her song "Beautiful Thing", written at age 12 about her relationship with her sister Olivia
There are a lot more, but these whill show her poise, writing, and singing ability at the start of her career.
i never heard of her before...what in the green hell am i listening to right now? :O so close to cry...
Welcome to the club. She is a brilliant talent.
#Lettersvol1
You have 4 years and a lot of kleenix's to go thru !
You've got the Grace bug now.
Welcome to the real Graceland.
Great reaction, thanks! You have a future with Grace, please go on.
She won AGT in 2016 when she was 12. Listen to her cover of River. She is staring with Disney plus Star Girl
Grace is the real deal. You should watch her agt videos and her new song from star girl . She uses so much emotion. I cry some times when I listen to her
Great reaction, love to see someone get hit with Grace like I did,if you stay with her you will see she is one of a kind
Listen to the song lungs that she wrote it’s just as amazing! Definitely will give u chills!
Great song, I was just checking the comments to see if anyone had mentioned it.
She can NOT sing. She sucks.
Absolutely agree to Grace’s live performance of Today and Tomorrow on the Jimmy Kimmel Show.
@@magaisacult2023 Oh William; give it up. You're a horrible troll.
Yes the song is on Spotify.
Just the beginning, and I mean so much more than the albums.
You should react to here latest Kimmle performances.
If you're looking for a good, mature sounding cover from Grace I would recommend the MTV performance of River or her Vevo performance of Vienna
Ironically, the word she leaves out in this performance is "cry". "I just might cry".
Love Maunalee's reaction thru out the song you can see it grabs her and pulls her in, the emotion Grace puts in a song is amazing. Maunalee search RUclips for maybe this could be something or her cover of Leon bridges song river.
You should listen to the studio version of this song. It's killer... also listen to "Lungs" by her. She is a great writer.
Good call on the Counting Crows reference for this song. She sings a song from her movie on Jimmy Kimmel live that's really good Thirteen if you get chance. A really good Grace song is A Better Life the fender addition, it's absolutely beautiful, good review, you got the Vanderwaal goosebumps, won't be the last time
Andrew Silvia love that Fender edition
Haha...nice reaction. You walked right into the tons of protective GV fans your last review of So Much More Than This. Hope you take the time to watch/listen to her newer songs. She's going to be around a while.
O.K. Now Lungs, then Stray, then Today and tomorrow, then the live Vevo version of Poser...
And live version of the city
You should listen to her first audition on AGT " I Don't Know My Name" when she 12.
Thanks!
Clearly is one of her most emotional songs. You should react to Cleary.
I think you should check out the album version with cello and guitar and a kick ass mic. The outdoor hand held is gained down so much we miss a lot of her inflection and color of her whole notes. That and Lungs
Yes, and she was suffering through a cold on this live version.
She writes and sings beyond her years. Truly a gifted and unique individual .
Thank you for your reaction. and glad you made it here hopefully you have more time to explore/enjoy more gr@ce's songs and covers.. you won't be disappointed
Earlier material "Beautiful Thing( Lucy Windex Video) commercial I believe it's one of those songs that will stand the test of time
Yes, I liked this one.
It can be overwhelming :)
As for her not having blown up yet - it is sad but the 16-34yo demographic is the key one for marketing, and it is too difficult to wean many of them off of mainstream pop. It is sad how many just think her voice sounds funny and will not take it any further than that.
she is 16 now, she signed for Simon Cowell after she won AGT but it seems they dont interfer to much in her work, seems she does her own thing even with them in the background
She has stated in a resent interview that she likes Simon a lot and how they both think about contestants the same way.
@@Paul-D-Hoff Simon is smart enough to know a contract with a child's parents has little to do with control of the child, especially a girl as independent and free spirited as Grace.
@@jamil2447 who said anything about smarts
@@Paul-D-Hoff lol. Please forgive me this momentary loosening of my mental restraints.( smart #greedy)
She is very close to her sister and i feel that the lyrics reflect that. I have followed her progress since agt and she is an amazing talent.
Luckily there’s no need to judge - if you like it...you like it...if you don’t...move on
She loves Denver ,she did a couple of concerts here on the Blue Bird teather, one for the Just the biggining tour and other for Ur so beautiful tour ,another on Red rocks amphitheatre whit imagine dragons and one on Fort Collins whit the ur so beautiful tour, all four amazing
Great reaction! Thank you. This song is off the Just the Beginning Album, which in my opinion, may be the best debut LP ever.
You'll find that Grace's live performances are the best. Try to find her rendition of River. She did it on MTV's Push.
Yes, another excellent feel it in the gut song. (But they all are)
Here it is. ruclips.net/video/CccMZxkqS0Q/видео.html A perfect example of making song your own. Her voice is especially extraordinary here.
No argument with that “River” rendition.
Totally agree. Live and acoustic is always amazing and so free.

(Shakeshead)
In my opinion, there's only a certain hand full of individuals that are just born with a rare gift. This absolute ability, to touch others with their words, through music, through out history.
I'm just grateful to have stumbled upon some of these gifted people in my lifetime.
Thank God for our younger generation, still representing!

Wait til you hear "Rage"
Great reaction Maunalee. this is where Grace started on AGT. you don't need to react to this, but it's pretty awesome how she won. theres 4 perfomances total. she wrote all the songs herself, remember she's 12 years old, here's the video ..ruclips.net/video/hTIMH9BGyfk/видео.html she's one in a million..
Grace have so many mind blowing good original song... and her cover are interesting experience, because she make them different songs, best example is Taylor Swift "look what you made me do" you will not recognize this song ...
Darkness Keeps Chasing Me is #12 on her "Just the Beginning Album"
You might like Clay.
The song she won AGT with.
She really felt that one.
Awesome reaction to an amazing song. Check out "Poser" or "The City" on Vevo live. "Stray" live at the Slipper Room is also mind blowing. Great work. I just subcribed!
Fantastic reaction. I absolutely love Grace! I've got all of her stuff that she's put out so far. My fave video of her is her from her AGT audition. Specifically, a video put out by Anthony Ying. If you get a chance, please check it out.
you need to listen to the studio version its hauntingly good
She was 12 when she wrote this and had no business writing a song like this. It's absolutely heartbreaking and the thought of a little girl feeling that way just tore me up. I knew she was a genius when I heard this.
I could see you getting misty eyed there...Greetings from a neighbor in Colorado Springs.
One of her great songs and she has so many! Us Fanderwaals adore her and her music.
Listen to more of her music. You are in for treat.
How good your reaction woul be to reach 1k on 14 hour's ,and now it's time to welcome you to Grace crazy train, where you can check anytime you like but you can never live
Yeahhh...that's more like it...great choice of song and video...
At 13 and writing this.
Grace's best live perfomance
Clearly(Stephen Colbert show)
The City(Vevo)
River(MTV Push)
Today and Tomorrow (Jimmy Kimmel show)
Darkness Keeps Chasing Me(MTV Rooftop)
I think i would add Thirteen on the Jimmy Kimmel show
A-team Paste studios
Light The Sky (Special Olympics)
Great choice.
Tears
I saw the song grab you! Saw you sniffle too. One non-song to check out is Grace's acceptance speech at the billboards for rising star. It gives you a real feel for her poise. Also, she has a personal channel, "oh shut up it's just me" she has covers she did when she was 11. Like X's and O's, I'd recommend finding a video with her AGT performances on them, and finally, watch the video from Windex, the story of Lucy. On this one, tissues are a must.
BTW: You have a delightful smile!
Lol, "Shut up" ruclips.net/channel/UC2qc1KM4zgRoOpysqVEaNbw
Oh Never Mind It's Just Me
I got a very *PINK* vibe (when she does those deep, *personal* songs), from this song.
LOL seeing eight balls where is the Lava lamps. simply outstanding ;)
She was 13 when this album came out
Grace was 13 when she wrote this gem. She could have retired then and there, as far as I 'm concerned. Maybe take the time to listen to the entire album because it's brilliant. I cried the first time I heard this and several times thereafter.

Give the studio version a quick listen
Studio, video, or live, Grace is fantastic. And each one will give a different feeling. It does me, anyway.
Studio version of this song is the only song of grace's I like better than live. The cello adds so much depth and soul to the song.
