Holeee Moleee......this young lady cannot be 14 yrs old......this song is so deep and her voice and emotions are beyond words.....chills, tears, thoughts, pain, memories, etc....almost unbearable to listen to these words of life.....powerful song that awakens the soul to the light of the sun.........wow.......what a light to her generation......a new "beatle" movement ? Bring the love, Grace....it's all we need!!!!!
Actually, she cannot be 14 years old here - this performance is done when she's *13!!!* Wrote and performed this at 13! This truly defines her as an empath and song-writing prodigy. (I'm here at this late date listening for the umpteenth time - this is the best reaction video ever made. Am at home dealing with darkness chasing me once again... listening to a lot of Grace.)
Going through each and every comment written so far: Never ever I found such an unbroken chain of love and shared tears of understanding in a place like this. And it was YOU and Grace that brought as here together. Beautiful souls do exist. Thank you all and thank you, Petra.
This is the essence of music, to tap into your soul, to make you feel, react, think, laugh, cry, dance, yell, scream, cry, run, love, This young lady, Grace, "gets it" on a level only a handful of musicians have throughout history. If she wrote this, I'm assuming she did, this is Grammy Award winning material, she doesn't need the award to validate her work, her work is validated by every tear shed and every heart touched. Petra, you rock, to bear your soul on a world wide stage takes the strength you've been looking for, it's in you, it's in all of us....Peace! 😎
Grace has not yet performed this song live because, as she says, it's a "Debbie Downer." It's the last track on her album, and, as with most albums, the best was saved for last. It's clearly the favorite of most Fanderwaals. I knew you would eventually react to this song and knew, with your difficulties, it would have an immense impact on you. Thanks so much for sharing your feelings with us. I love most kinds of music and am fond of many great artists, from classical to popular--but, in my 73 years of listening, I can say, for myself, that this is THE most beautiful song and performance I have EVER heard by ANY artist, living or dead.
Very true, i enjoy it on many levels and have a feeling it wil serve my heart at some point in the future. Its a gift for transition in some way yet to be seen
Grace called it a Debbie Downer. It's exquisite. The production was outstanding, too - the delicate guitar and strings. But the emotion and variety of her voice! Then the lyrics... Oh my. Petra captured my reaction completely. I have tears right now.
If I didn't know different I would swear that Grace got into your head to write this. Your face throughout her song was at the same time beautiful and heatwrenching. THank you Petra for showing your emotions so openly and honestly and thank you Grace for putting those emotions into such unbelievable words. I do not know what pains you are going through Petra but I can only say that we, those who are very fond of you, will stand with you no matter what.
+Michelle Griffin Aaaaw! You are so nice!!! I can't Believe how many Nice People there is in the world💚💚💚 someone allready shipped One for me yesterday. But THANK YOU for wanting to send One to me. You are so thoughtful!!
i tear up everytime i hear this song...Grace talks to everyone with her music...not just to us but straight to the heart...her music...her unique voice just strikes u right deep in your heart...nd this one...such a masterpiece! it speaks to me as to many. u know...i think Owie hit right on the spot when he said Grace is a living walking miracle...she is truelly one!. and Petra, thanks for this video! your words just so true, so accurate...its a sad song, but that confort us. Music needed this...Grace is a true gift to music...her music just touches everyone one way or another.
Grace is a prodigy. There's no other way to explain the emotion that she portrays at such a young age, through her music and the emotions that she illicit's from us who have followed her journey . I cried at seeing your reaction to this song. They say a picture paints a thousand words, but your face, while listening to this song, screamed millions and i wanted to just hug you and tell you things will be alright. Bless Grace for writing this song and bless you for sharing with us.
One of the best reaction videos ever to Grace's 2nd best masterpiece. Once my son was born, best masterpiece became Beautiful Thing by default. Grace could stop her career tomorrow and still be one of the greats for what she has done already. I thank her every day that I listen to her music. Petra, you are a Beautiful Thing.
I love this song to! Did you know you are the first person to be strong enough to react to it? You are strong in ways you did not even know Petra! Hug from the USA!
This is my favorite of Grace's songs. Beautiful, vulnerable, haunting, and reflective. There are some songwriters who go thirty years without being able to encapsulate so much emotion into a song. Grace is just 13. Petra, depression sucks. But there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. ALWAYS. Even in the darkness, light still exists.
I cried with you! I have a hard lump in my throat. This is such a deep song. How can such a bright, happy child put herself so well into other peoples' emotions, into their shoes? She clearly says she hasn't experienced a lot of what she writes about ... so she has such a gift of empathy toward others' feelings and struggles. Thank you for posting this reaction video and being vulnerable to showing your emotions, too. ((Still sobbing with a knot in my own throat, and stuffy sinuses)). "Amazing Grace," as Howie Mandel called her from the beginning ... such a beautiful soul upon Mother Earth ... and you are pretty amazing, too.
I think it's her empathy that makes her so wise beyond her years. She has obviously "experienced" a lot of things vicariously and has been able to put in all in context brilliantly.
First...I just want to say that it breaks my heart to see how much pain you are in right now...second...I can't imagine how a young girl like Grace can put into words the feelings that it takes a life time to experience...both of you have an inner strength that can overcome the difficult challenges facing you....my thoughts and prayers are with you...please accept them as little as they may help you right now...
A way that Grace has affected me: When I listen to performances I've heard before by other singers, they either now all sound pretty much the same, or they just don't move me like they used to. (I like to listen to videos from The Voice from around the world, for one.) Grace has raised the standard inside my own aesthetic sensibilities for what "powerful music" is - just by being herself. Her music has changed me permanently, I can feel it. And in such a wonderful direction - that's the real miracle of it. Scarcely anyone else in the musical universe has done that, at least not with such immediacy.
Amazing.. Amazing... Amazing..! Love your reaction to this song... I first heard it I think about three years ago.. I was blown away that a 13 year old girl could write and perform like this.! I knew then that she was a very special little girl... very gifted.👌☝️
Petra it seems Grace has a direct line to your heart. How someone so young could write these lyrics is a mystery or just genius. Petra I think in a way Grace did write this song for you. ❤
Rick Fron, So much Love on Petra's Channel. No better place to be for Holidays...or Every day. Take care my friend and have the Best Holiday. Dave P.S. I'll be listening to your channel tomorrow. : )
I listened to this song and melted into a world unimaginable, magical. Watching you melt into that same other-world was special. Thank you! We're not alone!
Thank you . Its brave to do this with this song. It pulled out such weight that i could not contain myself. I find myself listening to this over and over. Its like medicine. Graces work goes way beyond entertainment
Darkness Keeps Chasing Me is devastatingly beautiful. It makes it hard to believe that it isn't about her. Maybe it is, or was, in the moment, but it can be about anybody, really. It probably will not be played live, which is a shame but also understandable. It's a song that wraps you in a soft, warm blanket of comfortable despair. It's the definition of heartbreak from someone who, I think, has not experienced it. A remarkable achievement.
This was a very moving reaction video, Petra. I completely agree with Les Cox that Grace seemed to have been reading your mind when she wrote this song. But then, she would have been reading many other minds as well. Your face showed how moved you were by this song. And while it brought tears to my eyes, it also left me feeling a bit uplifted. I hope you felt some of the same. We, your loving supporters, will be there for you when the darkness is chasing you. Believe that. I care; we all care about you very, very much. And if you ever have an epiphany, please let us all know how a 13 year old girl from suburban New York can touch so many lives worldwide and play on everyone's heartstrings with songs that never fail to move the listener. It is a mystery to me. I could understand it if she was 30 or so, but she has just barely entered her teens. What an amazing talent she is.
I've waited for this, your reaction to this incredible song, and thank you Petra! Some of us "get" Grace and some don't. I am amazed with each new song and find it hard to imagine her topping the last but she does, and does she ever! We are so blessed!
💓 I'm really speechless right now. I've seen your video twice, and I can only thank you. Thanks for sharing your emotions. I don't know where you get the strength to react with integrity to this impressive statement by Grace. But you do it, and you make me feel Grace's power even stronger than I already did. Your feelings and your comments at the first listening are just what I'd like to have been able to express after listening to the song many times. I admire your intelligence, your sensitivity and your mental capacity to analyze, express and share 🙏
ohh my love... ive suffered from depression and anxiety and somgs give me the most comfort. i am feeling you right now. the line "my legs are getting tired of running" gets me everytime. please dont ever feel that you are alone. i am here. we are all here. you are beautiful. this song is beautiful. im right there with you and i love you even though this is the first video ive seen from you. this song hurts so bad but gives comfort. you are NEVER alone. sending you love and strength we can get through it xxx
Thanks for your reaction Petra. Made me tear up all over again. This song is too real, it gets to everybody. You're right about songs like this helping when depressed. My brother used to listen to Leonard Cohen and others who wrote very sad songs. Those songs kept him alive during the worst times, quite literally. Can't wait for you to listen and react to the rest of the album! There are many happy feel good songs while still being very meaningful. You'll love every song.
Thank you Petra. Thank you so much for sharing your emotions, your pains and sufferings. We love you sincerely. I admire you for your strength, for your sincerity, for your kindness and for all the love you give us with your being. I love you from my heart.🙏💞
Thank you thank you Petra! I feel exactly the same way you do -- both personally - and listening to this song. It's incredibly moving and powerful and yet it has a sense of hope all over it too. Thank you for sharing your tears with us because we all feel this way too [..sniff,.. 😢]. Love your reaction, love your work and - just like you said for Grace - never stop being you. You're wonderful.❤️.
awwwww Petra, I just saw Grace's tweet to you🤗. I am so happy that she recognizes your heartfelt love of her music. We all say that Grace is special, but YOU are such a special person too. 😍😍
Petra, I found you more than a year ago from being a grace fan. You are so honest and real, it is very refreshing. You look so beautiful and and I always feel like I want to tell you how much better you have made my life in these short moments we share on RUclips. I know sometimes you feel alone, but you do have all of us that really do care about you. You are one of the few lights in the world, and I really appreciate you so much. From your home half way around the globe, you have made a difference in the world. That is really amazing, and you are really amazing. Thank you for taking time to share your grace experience with us. I always look forward to it. Seeing graces music through your eyes is really a great moment every time you post.
A long time ago, I took a course in basic orchestration. One of the words the professor used repeatedly was "color" - he talked about the color of the tones of the various instruments, and their warmth, but in visual or tactile terms, like the tones of a French Horn being the color of a pastel sun seen and felt at dawn, or the mix of burnished hues and the chill purity of the golden quality of Pavarotti's voice. There were other terms - many of them related to sound, of course, like the breathiness of flutes - but it was more strongly about color. One of the things I find so amazing about Grace's singing is the unbelievable variety of colors she can produce, effortlessly, in rapidly changing mixtures - it's something that truly differentiates her from everyone else. There's a new video out showing Grace reacting to some young fans singing Grace's songs. They all do a nice job, and some have really nice voices. But none has the variety of colors in Grace's musical palette. It's like the difference between a poster and an impressionist painting. Nobody else can change coloration so easily as Grace - or with such superb nuance. You can't think about these sorts of things and do them, they just have to be there - usually after years of practice and honing and musical and life experiment. The unanswerable question is how did they get there without all that.
JS - great description of Grace's voice, thank you. There is something about it and you are describing that something. Any number of other singers have excellent and indeed technically way better voices, but not better in a way that matters when conveying, as you put it, colour.
Petra your emotions were so powerful. Praying for your happiness always. Grace is a Goddess. She is the next generation. Get well you strong woman and if Grace's music is a vehicle to help please continue to share!
You have had such a wonderfully real reaction and as someone who fights depression often, I really identified with you! You are doing great, girl! Yes, Grace is a true poet and artist. We are lucky to see someone so brilliant as she is at age 13, and we know there will be much more.
Petra - love your reactions, especially to Grace! I said somewhere else about Darkness Keeps Chasing Me: "it touches your soul and your soul shivers once, but then shines". So, Grace has touched your soul, you shivered, but now you can shine. Look after yourself.
"YOU'RE SINGING MY EMOTIONS!!" This is an EXCELLENT descriptive!! WELL SAID PETRA! I could clearly see before the 4:OO" mark that this song, above all her others (that you've watched) was causing you to "surface" ALOT of emotions. I don't know how Grace is able to do this, but she is already a very powerful individual in the music industry. If there HONESTLY isn't a GRAMMY somewhere in this album (if not, the entire album) then are we all just crazy for wishing it?! Note: this is the 1st time for me listening to "DARKNESS"...I just bought the CD but have not listened to this yet. The EMOTIONAL DEPTH of not only this song but the whole CD is UNBELIEVABLY HUGE.
Petra!! This is the most heartfelt and real thing I have ever seen on social media. You are so brave and so strong! I share the same adoration and love for Grace and her gifts!! She sings my emotions as well❤️ I have been a fan of yours for very long time...watching this made me feel like we are best friends💕 keep being you and sharing with us all! You make a difference! 🌸 ~Be YOU tiful~ 🌸
Petra, we are SO THANKFUL for your openness and honesty about your life! It encourages others to know that they are not alone. I know I’ve said it before, but your videos always bring a smile to my face and brightens my day! You are a true blessing!!!
Well, Petra, gosh! You must know. I'm usually watching every your reactions for Grace repeatedly several times, before I can comment, but not this time. I just couldn't watch this vid second time! I'm not saying I didn't want. I's dying to see it again, but I just couldn't. Too heavy, too emotional! The song alone is already too emotional for me! But with your reaction it's just killing me! Now I managed some how watch it again. WOW! River streams down my cheeks! Thank you Petra! Love you girl! I hope you'll escape from darkness that's surrounded you. I'm sure you will! Love you!
Petra, I’m so happy you get to do this video and listen to this magical song. At the moment I’m quite happy in my life but I can still relate to all the emotion brought by the lyrics, the rythm, her voice and the music. I loved watching you react with your heart and soul to this very special song and you put me in tears together with you. It is difficult for me to accept you are in the middle of a deep depression, because you seems to be on such a good trend on your youtube channel it should boost you with all the love of your followers and a real achievement in your life. Just doing things you love, your way and share it with us is a blessing. I feel sad at not beeing able to send you all the love and care you deserve to help you come over this.
This is for you Petra and every one. When you cry, you actually release chemicals in your brain that may you feel better. So when you feel like you want to cry, go ahead. Its very good for you. We as people and even some animals cry. Elephants, wolves howl to express emotion, dogs just to name a few.
Petra, I love you and how beautiful you are. I knew this song was going to speak volumes to you, in many ways with many feelings. Watching your reaction and knowing how much you were really holding back, just made me want to rip through the screen and give you a much needed hug. Already this song carry's so much emotion and the way Grace tells the story, the lyrics, the notes of her beautiful voice. She is just an amazing soul ( an we have to remember, she is just 13 ) Oh My Chills.
I love you Petra you are amazing you get so emotional and it makes me cry with you.I can feel your emotions through your videos and it shows how much of a beautiful soul you have.
Petra, this is the most beautiful reaction I have ever seen from anyone. Grace sings so deeply about emotions, OF COURSE you were moved to tears. And listening to a sad song when you're sad really makes sense. I've often done it. As you said, it gives an outlet for your feelings. And one feels the beauty of the song more deeply. Grace is a transcendent empath, but I think she has also experienced this to an extent; she combines her slight experience with her empathic feelings of others. Yes, when I was a young teen I had pretty intense emotions - more intense because they're so new. Grace has such an active mind I don't doubt she is already experiencing some of this - hopefully just a little.
I've been wanting and dreading your reaction to this. I know my reaction to it was pretty much the same as many other fans of Grace -- this song is a soft, warm blanket of gorgeous, hopeful despair. "God I want to be different".
Damn, I love that! "hopeful despair" is so perfect. And I've commented on this elsewhere - she often doesn't offer simple hope, everything will turn out fine. She offers hopefulness. More complex, more real. It's in Better Life, and in Moonlight, it's in the structure of the song. Is why her cover of In My Blood is so transcendent. And for her latest, Stray, "hopeful despair" is the perfect description.
This song was not initially one I was drawn to, but now I can’t stop listening to it. The depth and soul that transcends her years is awe inspiring. It’s depressing in a healing way if that makes sense.. it’s is brilliance and creative genius.
Omg that same emotion that you just went through is what I'm going through I love this song to death but every time I hear it my tears come pouring out, Grace is more than just a talented young lady she reaches in the very core of what most of us r going through, and not all singers and artist can do what she does.
Thank-you for sharing your reaction, Petra. I'm so sorry you're suffering right now, but I hope this song and "A Better Life" do give you a touch-stone to ground you when things feel like they're pulling you down further. I believe this is easily the best song about depression, and the battle against it, ever recorded. It moved me very deeply as well, and I find strength whenever I listen to it.
rupert - no, it’s about a real person (not her). This song, from Grace’s perspective, is about her fear of being swallowed up by the music industry, selling her soul in order to share her music with others, etc. However, Grace has an amazing talent in being able to write songs in such a way as to have them be applicable to many situations; this song fits anyone battling personal demons (depression, addiction, and so forth). BTW, the part in the song where there are ‘streams running down my face, seeing you blowing smoke in your ripped jeans’ isn’t about her seeing her future self, as some have said, nor is it about her sister Olivia fooling around with a cigar. It’s about her crying over seeing the Miley Cyrus video where she was smoking dope (I believe she was wearing ripped jeans in the video, but I’ve only seen it once). Grace has said that she was a big Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus fan when she was a little girl; so it must have been a shock to her seeing Miley doing that. Grace then goes on to say/sing ‘don’t tell me you fell and the darkness has begun to seep in’ but that she (Grace) wants to be different.
Well Matt you sure have made me look at this song from a different perspective, also made me think about growing up. That day when you no longer look at Bugs Bunny from a childs point of view and see that a lot of things were actually written with for an adult audience, cleverly disguised for children. Could Grace be protected by the people around her til she was old enough to figure it out for herself, not really knowing Miley's erratic change was because of drugs. Are people doing drugs in her presence, not necessarily in the studio or on the road but places like school and the darkness is her own inner battle of the pros and cons of it. These are only my inner musings not necessarily my final conclusion. Grace is very deep and Nostrdamus might be easier than Grace to understand
Matt McMaster, your description comes close to what I read in other places usually well informed (Grace being aware of the dangers of a life in music industry) although the part on Miley was new. The Hannah Montana connection. Mark, I continuosly screen for info where _Grace_ explains the background to songs and I never found anything on DKCM. She never referred to it in public as far as I know (and neither did on Lungs and Hope for Change).
Thanks, Ernst, that's what I thought as well, but Matt's interpretation is a very reasonable one, and as he said, Grace writes such profound and deep, yet open ended, lyrics that her songs can mean a multitude of things to so many people. I've said it before, but there are professional songwriters out there who have worked their whole lives who never came up with anything 1/10th as powerful, or beautiful, as this song. Before anyone says she had the help of a co-writer on this song, I've looked up his original music, and while it's very serviceable and nothing to be ashamed of, it's nowhere near this level and by his own words, "Grace is so incredibly talented, I just tried to stay out of her way as much as possible".
Please keep well Petra you are needed in this world as so many people like you and remember there are always people that care. Grave is so good a great talent.
Petra I love you and from readings all the beautiful comments you got, i know that i am not alone, all you fans love you. I wish you live closer to me so i can give you a big hug. I was waiting every day for you to react to this Grace song but at the same time i was scared for you knowing your battle with depression that this song may hurt you! Love from Canada
Petra, I come to your channel to watch your reaction to Grace's songs before I go listen to them. I had a good cry with you. I like Grace a lot. I like you a lot also.
Big giant hugs Petra. I am praying for you. God has you in his hands. You are beautiful inside and out. Don't ever be sorry for the way you feel. Feelings just are and you are amazing to be able to get though everything. Hugs
You have the same reaction to this song as I do. I also find that experiencing this song is a release for me and in the end I gain strength from it. Be well Petra.
Petra, watching u listening to this extraordinary song is something we have been waiting for since it first came out. When I first heard it I thought of u. Thank you so much for opening your emotions to us. You truly inspire me with your inner strength despite what u are going through.
Petra, Please hang in there--just know you have support from many people. Your reaction was great and you did not have to apologize for crying. Your reaction added to the song-it did not take away at all.
Well I was going to get some work done but then this happened!! Now with tears in my eyes i will have to sit here for a few and regroup. Thank you for another great reaction and I hope everything works out for you.
only Grace can sing this song, it's her voice, that plaintive tone, the cracks and raspyness makes the song even more emotional, i have tears every time i listen to it, but to see Petra so emotional made me tear up again. be well young Petra.
I may be biased, but the very few people I've come across who said they didn't like it seemed to me, based on their general demeanor, to be unfeeling brutes, or even actively hostile individuals. And while I'm not into reaction videos generally speaking, I make an exception for Petra. It was a bit like hearing this song again for the first time. I watched a number of Petra's videos in chronological order, and was so happy when we got to the Bean Runner concert one!
I really like reaction videos because they allow me to watch videos I enjoy with fresh eyes, and seeing others displaying the same love of these videos gives me hope. Petra is my favorite reactor.
Hello Petra, thank you for reacting to this song of Grace's. I waited in anticipation, when listening to this song the first time I wept for I am also a person that the darkness keeps chasing. In observation of your reactions and knowing of your own battles with depression I wanted to see if it struck you as it did me. The song makes me incredibly sad yet I felt a cleansing as well. Lungs is another song that shows the depth of her ability to touch ones heart. I wept with you on this one my friend..love and respect to you
Petra, so brave of you to "steer into the skid" by listening and reacting to this song after all you'd heard about it, and knowing full well that you'd be putting it out as a record for all to see. You're right, listening to dark songs while depressed can and does validate feelings and emotions. Hearing Grace's words and the way they're delivered here can't help but prove we're not alone, not misunderstood, not helpless, and that it's not a permanent state. Keep reacting, and keep believing.
First, I so hope you see some light in your dark place. This song also something I can relate to. It shook me to the core. It is so intuitive. A thirteen year old has done something I haven't been able to do in almost 60 years....
Dear Miss Petra, Gee, just as I typed this introduction, I thought," Now that would be a good time for a book . . . "Dear Miss Petra," Ha! Who knows, maybe, as a now retired teacher, I will write such a book. Okay, about your reaction, well Just As you felt that Grace's lyrics where composed just about or for you, I felt the same way . . . again . . . that what you shared did the same for me. Another double bonus for me, Grace singing her lovely lyrics in her mystical voice, and you sharing your heart, which touches mine for the good. Sincerely, Jack
You feel this song is written for you, as do I. Many people feel the same as we do. We feel alone, like we can't go on, like what's the point of it all? If you feel this way, I feel this way, and they feel this way... If we all feel this way, are we really alone? Why is it so hard for us to come together and fight the darkness? Make it stop chasing us? I feel sometimes that the darkness already caught me and now I wait... Wait for the end... Watching you Petra makes me feel like I'm not alone, like I'm part of a group. A group of runners trying to find each other, but we are all running so fast. I've told you before that when the darkness catches you do not be afraid. I am already here, and although I do not have a big light, I will share what I have with you. I think if we all come together and share our light it will be enough to push back the darkness forever. 😘 Thank you Petra for your bravery and kindness. You make me a better man. P.S. Thank you too Grace. Without you these connections could not happen. You are a blessing to us all. 🙏
Todd Baysinger I have been in the darkness for a very long time myself. Grace has lit a torch for me to find my way back to the light. I hope you all can see it and follow as well. Remember to always choose kindness and I hope we can find the light together.
Todd Baysinger, If I could you would have gotten 100 likes. At least. Only the Chased ones understand each other. You cannot share it, not even with family. It remains an absolute mystery to me how a person like Grace could find the empathy to write my new anthem. How on earth can she understand 'it' better than almost everybody else I know?
Ernst Müllner Absolutely agree, if you've never been chased by the darkness, you can't understand us that have. We can understand each other though and therefore help each other. 👍
Well said, Todd, and I hope you hang in there and fight. It's hard to wrestle free, I know, but you can do it. I know these are just words, but like you said yourself, you know you're not alone, and we have to cheer each other on when we feel like we want to give up. We have to fight alone, no one can defeat the darkness for us, it's a one on one battle, but it's good to have the home town advantage and when we all listen to Grace, I feel like we are home.
Very emotional song and equally emotional reaction. Grace's music and lyrics are really a creative miracle. Makes me remember- Waking in the dark. How long have I been in bed? What time is it? Who keeps ringing the phone? Who is that banging on my door? Can't you just go away and leave me alone? (Covers back over head) Thank you Petra for your wonderful and heartfelt reactions.
Petra , you were breaking my heart watching you react to this song . As a fellow depression sufferer , I know what you are talking about. It makes me so sad that Grace knows these feelings and those words could come out of her mind. You are never alone in the darkness Petra, there are many of us here . I can't wait until you hear the rest of her cd , it is amazing and easily one of my favorite albums ever . Great reaction Petra , I have to dry my eyes now . I hope the darkness never catches up with you and you can be part of the light . Thank You for being you and being so generous with your time and energy , it really means alot to me and I have appreciated it in my time here. Much love , hugs and respect . -------Bob H
I don't think in Grace case is about depression...in my opinions it about huge expectations put on her and her fear of disappointing, fans, herself and fear becoming next Kid STAR destroyed(changed) by entertainment industry. You know comment like"Wait 5 years and she will be doing drugs like Lindsey Lohan or Britney Spears"
Hey Amigo, Thank you for your friendship over the past year and also for fighting to be here with us. Have yourself nice Thanksgiving. Eat lots of Turkey. Your friend Rick...
Petra, I started crying before you even started DKCM, knowing that this would be a difficult song for you to react to. It is absolutely incredible that this beautiful young woman can write these amazingly, superb lyrics and then sing them like she has lived through it. How is it even possible for someone so young to have this much empathy, she only 13, but her music is that of someone who has lived a lifetime. Sometimes I wonder what it is that we are all witnessing here, a prodigy with a mission to use her talent to enlighten us all, that life as difficult as it can be for so many of us, is worth the effort to wake up and really try to be happy. This little miracle, named Grace has given us all so much in her short career, like someone else said, If this Is Just the Beginning, I can't wait to see the rest of the story. Love you Petra, and I'm sending you healing love and light.
Barbara IMO, "Prodigy" doesn't begin to cover Grace. "Phenomenon" is probably closer to the mark, and she's still learning and growing. She has an incomperable set of gifts she wields instinctively, whether songwriting, performing or even modeling. I honestly believe her empathy and self-awareness are almost unprecedented in creating her ability to put herself into the story with no personal experience. Grace is not only a once in a generation artist, she's fast becoming a once in a lifetime artist.
I personally think she was sent down to find those who still have hearts, collect them together and lift them up. I don't think there's any other explanation because I can't stop listening to her music. I'm only a little depressed but I cried with you and it made my heart feel good. That's Grace's purpose here. It's nice to know I'm not alone in feeling the way I do about her music. She has a rare soul and her voice seems to carry magic. BTW This is from a guy whose favorite music choices included mostly heavy metal. Stay strong Petra, you make me feel good, thank you.
I don't no Petra what you are going through. I can feel it I feel sad this song doesn't help feeling sad it's a sad song. I hope you can get through whatever it is quickly. Sending positive thoughts and prayers
Please remember that she has always said she writes about what she feels. Obviously after our Grace has created this song, Moonlight and others, she knows how you feel, Petra. Many of us have been through that, if not most. We love Grace because she shares so much with us, in such an intimate way, through her music. And, obviously we love you too Petra, that is why we subscribe and seek out your reactions.
Well stated Ernst.
That is a powerful statement friend....can't find any flaws in it though. 59 yrs here.
Very true, i enjoy it on many levels and have a feeling it wil serve my heart at some point in the future. Its a gift for transition in some way yet to be seen
Yes and it is also 200 % (or even more) pure singing and playing! :)
I hope she gets an award for this song. Everyone can relate to this song.
Now she has performed it live
Grace VanderWaal has something that belongs only to the soul...she's a true gift for the music.
Grace called it a Debbie Downer. It's exquisite. The production was outstanding, too - the delicate guitar and strings. But the emotion and variety of her voice! Then the lyrics... Oh my. Petra captured my reaction completely. I have tears right now.
Her lyrics can give you a glimpse of darkness but her voice brings hope and light. Great react:}
If I didn't know different I would swear that Grace got into your head to write this. Your face throughout her song was at the same time beautiful and heatwrenching. THank you Petra for showing your emotions so openly and honestly and thank you Grace for putting those emotions into such unbelievable words. I do not know what pains you are going through Petra but I can only say that we, those who are very fond of you, will stand with you no matter what.
les cox You're right Les Cox... We'll be here for Petra no matter what. I hope life is treating you well. It's great to see comments like yours.
If you'd like a copy of Grace's CD, Petra... email me and I will ship one to you, Girly!!

Big Hugs!
les cox,

+Michelle Griffin Aaaaw! You are so nice!!! I can't Believe how many Nice People there is in the world💚💚💚 someone allready shipped One for me yesterday. But THANK YOU for wanting to send One to me. You are so thoughtful!!
Petra Reacts I hope they're sending you the Target version. The two bonus tracks are incredible.
i tear up everytime i hear this song...Grace talks to everyone with her music...not just to us but straight to the heart...her music...her unique voice just strikes u right deep in your heart...nd this one...such a masterpiece! it speaks to me as to many. u know...i think Owie hit right on the spot when he said Grace is a living walking miracle...she is truelly one!. and Petra, thanks for this video! your words just so true, so accurate...its a sad song, but that confort us.
+Skip Tindle 💙💙💙
This is my favorite of Grace's songs. Beautiful, vulnerable, haunting, and reflective. There are some songwriters who go thirty years without being able to encapsulate so much emotion into a song. Grace is just 13.
Petra, depression sucks. But there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. ALWAYS. Even in the darkness, light still exists.
Have never understood where the Grammy people were and are. If this song is not worthy of a Grammy, no song is!!
+BARRY STRACHAN ❤❤❤
Rick Fron,
So much Love on Petra's Channel. No better place to be for Holidays...or Every day. Take care my friend and have the Best Holiday. Dave
P.S. I'll be listening to your channel tomorrow. : )
Dave Frey, Hi Dave, have yourself great Thanksgiving. Best wishes too you and your family...
I listened to this song and melted into a world unimaginable, magical. Watching you melt into that same other-world was special. Thank you! We're not alone!
jeff goetz Yes! Yes!
You are right Petra, Grace is an Angel with Beautiful comforting Wings. God has blessed us I think.
I'm crying with you. The Grace's voice is a sweet melody.
They should show this video to grace because this was beautiful
Thank you . Its brave to do this with this song. It pulled out such weight that i could not contain myself. I find myself listening to this over and over. Its like medicine. Graces work goes way beyond entertainment
grace is a musical genious, is kinda scary how she keep making great songs full of emotions
This is one of my favorites on her new album. She truly has come a long way from AGT. I am so proud of her everytime i see her or hear her singing.
I think Grace was God sent. She not only touches you, but she touches millions of other people too.

Petra Reacts
Essa canção destrói qualquer um sentimento, incrível 😭
+V P I am SO HAPPY!!!!💕 Thank you for being so sweet:)
Letra incrível,muito forte tocante,belo trabalho..
Any number of other singers have excellent and indeed technically way better voices, but not better in a way that matters when conveying, as you put it, colour.
best description yet. no one's voice moves me like her's does.
Petra your emotions were so powerful. Praying for your happiness always. Grace is a Goddess. She is the next generation. Get well you strong woman and if Grace's music is a vehicle to help please continue to share!
A better reaction to Darkness there is not and will not be . Congrats dear Petra, You are such a lovely person. (Cant go on, crying).
You have had such a wonderfully real reaction and as someone who fights depression often, I really identified with you! You are doing great, girl! Yes, Grace is a true poet and artist. We are lucky to see someone so brilliant as she is at age 13, and we know there will be much more.
This was such a touching and sweet video review! LOVE! Guys, we have to get Grace to see this!!
+Charlotte Gaines 💖💖💖
Petra, we are SO THANKFUL for your openness and honesty about your life! It encourages others to know that they are not alone. I know I’ve said it before, but your videos always bring a smile to my face and brightens my day! You are a true blessing!!!
This song is one of the best prayers I have ever heard
The final, repeated "me-e-e-e-e-e" can feel like caresses, like the gentle rocking of someone comforting us.
Arnaud Campion Wow... You took the words right out of My mouth. That was the perfect statement for this reaction video.
This is for you Petra and every one. When you cry, you actually release chemicals in your brain that may you feel better. So when you feel like you want to cry, go ahead. Its very good for you. We as people and even some animals cry. Elephants, wolves howl to express emotion, dogs just to name a few.
Grace songs are not complete without your reaction Petra. Thanks for doing it and stay strong.
Petra, I knew how you would react to this song! It is very moving, I cried too!
Whatever it is, Grace has IT!!
Petra your such a sweet beautiful human don't ever change Bless you
Omg that same emotion that you just went through is what I'm going through I love this song to death but every time I hear it my tears come pouring out, Grace is more than just a talented young lady she reaches in the very core of what most of us r going through, and not all singers and artist can do what she does.
Stay strong sweetie ❤
@@Petraviklund OMG thank you so much for ur compassion
petra stay strong u are such a beautiful soul so kind and gentle your face always shows it bless you
Thank-you for sharing your reaction, Petra.
Hi Matt,
Is there an interview where Grace spoke about the meaning of the song?
Salut Denis, quelque part, G me fait penser à Brel et cette chanson à Orly. Étrange...
Petra, I love you and feel you as a friend even if we don't know heach other. And of course I love Grace, because she truly is an Angel.
I have always said about Grace that she sings from her heart to mine. She puts all of herself in every song she sings to us.
Petra, I come to your channel to watch your reaction to Grace's songs before I go listen to them.
I had a good cry with you.
I like Grace a lot. I like you a lot also.
Hello , and the song is so fitting in different ways ,like the other songs she writes , Thanks for the Great reaction Ms Petra , The Texas Gent
Big giant hugs Petra. I am praying for you. God has you in his hands. You are beautiful inside and out. Don't ever be sorry for the way you feel. Feelings just are and you are amazing to be able to get though everything. Hugs
Grace is wonderful how can you feel such sadness for a person that you really don't know you made me feel so sad love you and be strong
You truly inspire me with your inner strength despite what u are going through.
loskevanos Perfectly said😀😀
Petra, Please hang in there--just know you have support from many people. Your reaction was great and you did not have to apologize for crying. Your reaction added to the song-it did not take away at all.
This song was the story of my life also, the fact that Grace is so young and yet she understands me!!!
Well I was going to get some work done but then this happened!! Now with tears in my eyes i will have to sit here for a few and regroup. Thank you for another great reaction and I hope everything works out for you.
Hi Petra, great reaction to this lovely song. Grace's music seems to be able to sooth the soul. We are truly blessed to live in her time. Be well.
Just watched 6-22-2018.......You touched me, what a sweet loving emotional spirit you have. You.... Petra are a light to all of us. Stay Strong!
only Grace can sing this song, it's her voice, that plaintive tone, the cracks and raspyness makes the song even more emotional, i have tears every time i listen to it, but to see Petra so emotional made me tear up again. be well young Petra.
A lot of people relate to this song. I don't but it still makes me cry. I think you have to be made of stone not to cry when Grace sings this.
I just want you to know your reaction is pure emotional, I hope you get well...be strong and positive
This is beyond great. She has that way Grace has of being exactly what her name says. Graceful. Let us all try to understand. :)
First, I so hope you see some light in your dark place. This song also something I can relate to. It shook me to the core. It is so intuitive. A thirteen year old has done something I haven't been able to do in almost 60 years....
Great reaction. I was blubbering while you were reacting. So you held it together.
There is always a spark of hope in the dark.
What I saw
bright green blue eyes looked as if a veil of tears covered them.
Dear Miss Petra,
Gee, just as I typed this introduction, I thought," Now that would be a good time for a book . .
Sincerely,
Jack
Thank you Petra for your bravery and kindness.
Todd Baysinger,
Wow , What a comment...Sums up so many things... Great to have you here with us (for us). Dave
Ernst Müllner
Absolutely agree, if you've never been chased by the darkness, you can't understand us that have.
Stay strong Petra! We think you are amazing too!
Very emotional song and equally emotional reaction. Grace's music and lyrics are really a creative miracle.
Makes me remember-
Waking in the dark.
How long have I been in bed?
What time is it?
Who keeps ringing the phone?
Who is that banging on my door?
Can't you just go away and leave me alone?
(Covers back over head)
Thank you Petra for your wonderful and heartfelt reactions.
Bob H you are simply the best! Hugs!

Take care this Holiday and each day after...You are an Amazing Soul and a survivor!. Dave
JerryInDFW ,Happy Thanksgiving , hope all is well with you.Take care.----Bob H
Don't worry about crying, I cry every time I hear this song and I am a pretty happy unbeat person, but the this song pulls at your heart.
I don't no Petra what you are going through. I can feel it I feel sad this song doesn't help feeling sad it's a sad song. I hope you can get through whatever it is quickly. Sending positive thoughts and prayers
So moving, so genuine. You are a breath of fresh air in the genre of reaction videos. Thank you.
Petra, your reaction made the best video to a song that I've ever seen.
I've been following you for a while now and I'm going to love you I love your honesty and your openness with us thank you
