That's the genius of Grace, she put into words that were absolutely about love, yet didn't use the most used word in the world in love songs. And any situation, age, time, no matter what means Love!!!?
If it's really a good love song, you don't need to use that word because love is what all the other lyrics add up to. I think that's the beauty of it. In other words, it all adds up to the description of love. Using the the word "love", would be redundant... Right?

Back Story: 12 year old, totally unknown, Grace VanderWaal uploaded this piece to her RUclips channel, under its original title "I'll Hold Your Hand (Original For My Sister)," on 2016.06.05. The next day someone at school told Her sister about it (she had no idea) and when she saw it Olivia started to cry. That evening (2016.06.06) Grace's AGT Audition aired on NBC and Grace was suddenly far from unknown. Recorded three months earlier, Grace had received the "Golden Buzzer" at that audition, and was advanced straight to the live shows. AGT gave Grace the last slot in the last quarter final for her first live show, 2016.08.23, where she performed #BeautifulThing, nailed it and the next day found out she had been voted into the semi-finals.
For many of us, this was the very first time that we saw Grace live (unless you were one of the select few who saw her play at the Bean Runner when she was still unknown). There are a handful that were familiar with her YT channel from before her AGT audition. But after her audition went viral earlier in 2016 (I first saw it on YT a day or two after the audition aired - links to it were all over social media), there was this long wait until the live rounds started that fall. I was not very familiar with AGT, and half-heartedly sat through the live episode to see her perform. As mentioned, she was the final performer that night. AGT knew what they had with her and wanted to keep their audience until the end. A few seconds into the song, I knew that her audition was no fluke and that she was the real deal. This is still one of my favorite Grace songs and as others have proclaimed, may be one of the best love songs of all time.
This song was for her sister. When she originally performed this song on AGT it was a bit more upbeat. The song as you hear it now was used in a Windex commercial, "The Story of Lucy". She wrote this song at 12, let that sink in. This is a song that hits you in the chest.
As I'm sure you'll hear from others, this is my favorite song Grace Vanderwaal has written, and in my opinion may go down as one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. It's mind boggling to think she wrote this at 12 years old. Incredible.
For me the song is one of the most beautiful love songs of the last decades. Grace wrote the song for her sister Olivia at the age of 12, but Grace wrote the song so brilliantly that it fits every loving relationship. (Beautiful thing now a popular wedding song). The listener asks himself automatically, Who is my Beautiful Thing. And yes, I'm thankful, I also have a lot of beautiful thing. Grace writes so awesome to use a beautiful love song without the word "love" and yet we hear with every line that Grace LOVES singing ✌️😎🇩🇪🇪🇺
@@traktician Sorry to be "that guy", technically it's a song describing a beautiful relationship (her sister). I know you're not stupid. But I guess technically I am "that guy".😎 My respect to you as well, Albert.
@@traktician Yeah, I think it's even more impressive to me, that she chose to describe the relationship as a "beautiful thing", verses the more personal yet typical choice of describing the individual. Btw this is jmo... But, when you get to Light The Sky, I see it as a love song to her fans (or any loved ones).
My girlfriend asks me, why my eyes are full of tears everytime I watch YT - it's all because of Grace. Grace touches best parts of our souls, grabs and draws them out... just makes the World little bit better. Please react to "Clay" - AGT performance - it's just live and more emotional than official audio.
The entire song is incredible. The build up at the end of the song when she literally wails it out...I've heard it maybe 20 times now and still get goose bumps. Super chills! Regarding Clay, I'm glad you mentioned it and the live AGT version of it. I agree 100% it is the best version, unfortunately short, that I've heard her sing. The difference for me is the rawness and especially the last verse where live on AGT she stops playing the ukulele and when she starts again it is double time... The official audio version does not capture it with the same intensity. While I was already captivated by all 4 performances on AGT, this final really did it for me. Clay is such a well written song, fantastic lyrics, great message... a complete package.
It's a song for the ages. Pure love depicted perfectly. She was extremely wise when in the video from home she says she did not want to give the background of the song for listeners to not have preconception about it. She knew, at 12, that her love song for her sister was true for any other type of true love. Proof of it is that it has been used for commercials and wedding/proposal videos that do not depict sisterly love. It has been used even to describe love for high quality sound and images as in the Sony ad. Amazing. What other songs are so universal? I must confess that I have even pictured God's love for me while listening to it.
Congratulation !!! Now you got the grace bug once it enters your heart it remains there forever. Only a few of us millions who see and feel the messages in the lyrics of this song. It's ok to cry as I always do each time I listen and savor the sweetness, love, and life of this song. Indeed the best love song I ever heard.
This was the second song she sang on AGT. Has good as people thought “I Don’t Know My Name” was, it was this song that made me realize who I was listening to. I knew at that moment that she was the artist that would would change the music. She wasn’t just special or unique but something more. She was 12 years old when I first heard this and it’s been my favorite song ever since. We all know she has a lot of beautiful music and lyrics but this is the one that set the standard of every song since. The reason I think this is because it’s a love song (about her sister) but she never uses the word “love” in the song, and yet everyone feels the love from the song. It takes a real lyrical magician to do that to the masses.
Children are capable of a unlimited amount of unconditional love and when you find a child like Grace who is capable of putting it into words then you get this, one of the most beautiful love songs ever written
Yes, this is truly a beautiful song. And it is the imperfections in her voice that give it that beauty. If she had hit every note perfectly it would not have been nearly so beautiful.
Another excellent review. I love your comments! One thing that is beyond amazing to me is what she accomplished at AGT. This song she performed on Aug 23. Her audition was March 4, broadcast June 7, when she blew up. So she had to wait the whole summer. Predictions started right away that she would win it all. In an interview just published from July 7, 2016, she is asked what song she would sing at the first live performance. She says she wants to do an original so that if she wins she will be the first ever to win performing all originals. So she was aware and thinking about the possibility of wining and she hadn’t sung live yet. Of course she nails it. The judges comments give you some idea of the pressure - Howie says 400 million people watched this (streamed it and watch it live), Simon says everybody was waiting for this performance (understatement for sure - was it a fluke, is she for real, how can she follow up that audition? etc). Her father comments later, responding to a picture of her family cheering and applauding her performance (in the audience), “the moment I began to believe my daughter could win it all.” The comment her mother makes when they are doing a facebook live (they did many) while they are at the mall eating - “I think this is the last time we’re going be able to go out in public, it is just getting too weird with everybody staring at us.” Imagine what this must have been like for her. And then the next performance she sings Light the Sky which she writes in the 2 weeks between performances and performs for the first time at AGT. What? Then there is the pressure from the producers to sing IDKMN again in the finals (she says they said you will lose everything you worked for, you will lose all of your fans... if you don’t do what we say you should do.) She writes Clay and sings that one instead. She showed a stunning ability to perform under pressure and enormous courage to sing originals in public for the first time... in front of several thousand, and a TV audience of millions. And of course the talent she displays is off the charts and the performances are epic! All of this back story makes the story AGT even more iconic!
I have very little to add to the other comments that have already been made. You get Grace. As you said, she is one of the very few with the gift. In my book, that makes you special. And yes, if we could only see, every day, what a beautiful thing we are, ALL together........ Exceptional reaction to one of the very best from Grace!
I think "Beautiful Thing" is by far the most touching and tender love song ever written !! Without that the word "Love" occurs in it !! I call something "simply awesome" !! Grace is a genius without question !! James T 🇩🇪
Ty for 2 :) you have to watch her agt rendition of this. She emotes so much more imo. And of course her original agt performance that started it all-"I dont know my name" with 103million views. Our little Mozart is lightyears ahead of the mainstream
Take a few minutes to watch the Windex commercial that used this song. It's a tear jerker! She performed this for her quarter final performance on AGT. Written early at age 12. This was used at weddings a couple of weeks later where I lived. Still is. It's about her sister, but it could be between any two closer people. One of the great love songs!
A Better Life Fender and this song will always have a special place as iconic Grace Vanderwaal songs. When she's 30 those two songs, both about her brother and sister will always represent the very beginning of this prodigy's journey. Two songs that give you chills, beautiful!
Windex made a commercial with this song, this song is timeless and one of my favorites. I'd recommend doing it again with the Windex commercial it's like a short movie absolutely beautiful
As some already said, this one was for and about her sister Olivia that is also her best friend. One of the songs she performed on AGT (you should definitely watch that version). The fact that you imediately grasped that out without knowing the song or the story behind it tells on how much you get of Grace and her songs. Whats amazing on this song as with most of her songs is that it is a song originately written about her sis, but its also the perfect love song, it can have various interpretations with the same message and sense. Once again perfect reaction, thanks! 🙂👍
@@tendicottjr indeed. Here's the one i could find of her on Agt with the promo too 😋: ruclips.net/video/b0bsOt6dPXo/видео.html And another nice live one is from her performing at the closing cerimony of the Special Olympics (where she also performed with (among others) Jason Mraz. But on this she performed by herself: ruclips.net/video/wtMzvvMNCgM/видео.html
For the love of her sister a profound love song that doesn't use that phrase once. I think this defines her completely LOL at twelve! . Ever think what the boss or Simon ( both Carley and Paul ) or McCartney musical and lyrical compositions sounded like at twelve , NOT happening. From this point, I will never compare Grace to any composer or songwriter ever again. I will define her talent in just one word, Grace. Grace is much more than a great composer. She literally is a messenger of good tidings and joy to the world and yes even a minister in a way delivering pearls of great price Great reaction Fable LOl but then again you always do health and happiness my friend.
One of my all time favorite Grace songs. Can’t believe this 16 year old prodigy has a catalog of about 37 mostly recorded songs and some songs just posted in their purest form. She is Joni Mitchell, Bob Dillon, and the Beetles rolled up into a cute Pixie blonde. Soon to conquer the world.
This is pure genius lyrics, like Mel B told her 4yrs ago during AGT, you need to know just how good you are, and Grace still as humble as ever, still doesn't realize how great she is!!
I love Grace, but come on. She’s John Grisham compared compared Dostoyevski, popular and relatable, but get real. If you really mean that, you have obviously never actually listened to the artists you referenced. It’s ok to be great and your favorite, but such hyperbole is insulting and does nothing for her. I listen to Grace almost daily and she’s one of my favorite artists, but come on. I love Die Hard, but it’s not Citizen Kane, simply because I like it better.
I too thought of her as being a modern day Mozart. I'm a 56 year old male and I think this is one of the most beautiful heart rending songs I have ever heard.
Grace is the Mozart of a new generation! She writes, arranges, plays and sings like no one before. I can't put her music in one category, because she has created her own and she is still in the creativity phase to find her sound and her style! It's a shame, that she has nearly no airplay. When I switch on the radio, I hear every time the same stupid plastic pop songs from the same artists. They should play Grace's music! She is the most important singer of this century!
I would expand on you're comment and say she is the most important singer/songwriter/performer of the modern (post WWII) era. The recording industry has no idea what to do with her. She doesn't fit into any of their prefab boxes.
As we dedicate ourselves to get as many people to hear her as possible it is frustrating to see how little attention she does get. Since we can't rely on radio or Utube it would appear that if the bigger reactors picked her up then more people would see her. The problem with that is those reactors are more amazed at the kids that are more or less great karaoke singers
@@Calers-gu1ib The reactors you're talking about, I think, are merely extensions of the music industry in that they react to the popular. This is because by doing so they will get more views, etc. It becomes a monotonous feedback loop. "We tell them what to like, then you tell them 'That's right!' More for us and more for you" What they don't say is "This is only about making money, not in the least about art." The reactors agree. And so on, and so on, and.......
@@Calers-gu1ib yup seen that , pretty voices living off the power of someone else's hit , that someone else's hit will always draw the curious that know the song
This is a universal love song , written by a 12 year old , a song used in so many places , one of the best love songs written in my opinion , just let that sink in
Yes, this one was about Olivia, her sister. She also performed this one in the first Live Show of AGT, so it was her second performance on the show. She is SO musically minded, she knew EXACTLY what to do in order to work around her voice, AND with it. She had been singing around the house since she was a toddler. She knows her voice and she knows music like it's stuck in her heart. I think you had it right, it's instinctual for her. She's a freakin' super-genius. I also agree, Grace is exactly what the world needs right now (and we need each other). We need someone with a pure heart (such as Grace) to lead, not the damned selfish money-grubbing war-mongering snobs we have in our seats of power right now.
I'll admit I'm always changing my mind but this is my favorite Grace song. I feel compelled to tell somebody that everytime I hear it. Thanks for playing It.
I just want to thank you for your fantastic reactions to my favorite artist of today, the beautiful soul Grace VanderWaal. She is an artist, and I mean artist because that is exactly what she is in every sense of the word. She is for people of all ages. Sheeet, I'm 69 yo guy who grew up with the Beatles, Doors, and Lead Zeppelin and to me she is such a very very special human being. I have easily listened to a 1000 hrs of reactions to her and have all of her music. One word for you, lol, "tambourine". Please react to her live performance of Stray at the Slipper Room.
3:30 when she says I know all your secrets and an know all of yours....you can hear the smile in her voice...you can tell she is thinking of her sister
Man, do you remember when i say you after your reaction of "darknes keep chasing me" to save the best for last? I told you about comersial of Windex which is basically Beautiful thing, and this song is on another level like "darkness keep chasing me" :)
Ha, Fable ❗ On your own you arrived at the 'comparing-to-Mozart-and-Beethoven'-stage 😁 When us FanderWaals do so from time to time, most people shake their head in disbelief and I cannot even blame them. Us older fans are even sometimes called weirdos for being so captivated by a teenage singer. But once diving in, once she is given the chance to touch your soul, many become converts. When you look back a few weeks when doing your first reaction don't you ask yourself: 'What just happened?' 😉
I agree with you Ernst Mullner. I somehow managed to live up to this middle age enjoying music fully but never being as captivated, as drawn to a singer, with her songs, as I am with Grace. It’s the first time I can say I am a diehard fan - a total Fanderwaal from the very beginning and everything since then - still resonates.
I agree with everything you said about this song. probably the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. it was one of her songs she performed when she won AGT seems so long ago now even though it’s been just 4 years.😌Grace is not only writing and singing “mind blowing”!songs! she is in the process of changing the way people think. teaching people about self belief and to start loving and respecting themselves. and making them realise it’s ok to be “you” and it’s ok not to follow the “status quo” of this world and to slow down and “see” and just appreciate the simple things in life. the most touching thing one of her fans recently posted was that they had found new meaning in their lives while suffering with depression. and she had stopped them ending their life. Wow! She can heal this world. I believe one day she could be an ambassador for world peace! this is why she was born in this time . and if she was, what would be the most powerful medium in this world other than ‘music’ (that everybody on this planet connects to every day on their phones! ) to pass that msg across and start humanity on new and positive path to happiness and peace. It’s no coincidence that she is here in this word.
You have said that you prefer Grace live. Stray live at the Slipper room mar 5 2019. ‘Escape my mind’ the late late show with James Corden July 23 2018. ‘The City’ VEVO nov 26 2019. ‘A Better Life ‘ fender . Thank you for your reactions.
If you eventually do watch Grace's AGT version of Beautiful Thing (which is absolutely amazing) keep this in mind. Grace composed and performed Beautiful Thing with a ukulele, but she said she always imagined it accompanied with piano. In 2016 Grace couldn't play the piano, so when she worked with producer Greg Wells for the studio recording, they agreed to slow it down and Wells played the piano on the recording. When Grace performed the piano version live for the first time (in Las Vegas) she prefaced by telling the audience that this was a different version, she thought a better version, and she hoped they would like it. Almost everyone was in tears by the end. Her voice and the emotion she projects is beyond beautiful.
All of her songs are intellectual and inspirational masterpieces. Even when she performs covers she makes them her own. You should definitely check out her first album, it has all her AGT songs and two more originals. Thanks for another great reaction!
ThanksFable, truly enjoy all of your Grace reactions, stay you, don't ever change what you offer is exceptional. Talk on man, keep on posting. Thanks...
VanderFan here. I tend to gravitate to reaction sites when the reactor validates my feelings. You certainly do that. But over and above that, and unlike most other sites, you build on a given observation until you are opening new fields of thought, new perspectives, definitions that go out-of-the-box. I really appreciate your pushing thought into new territory. Example; perceiving that Grace is more than just a prodigy, but a molder of music. The icing on the cake, the unrestrained, unmeasured display of your honest emotions. Thanks (I called you a reactor, ... like an atomic reactor? A nuclear reactor?) EDIT - so, seconds ago I clicked the submit button after typing that you were a nuclear reactor, and I look up and there it is in your description! Spooky!
I guess Grace and her songs were, has been, and will always be relevant. "Too few" has discovered the "too many" she has to give. Your reaction just made me fall all over again. Good stuff man, keep it up!
Hi she wrote this song for her sister. it was one she performed on AGT and yea I agree yet another beautiful song. have seen her first audition she did on AGT if not you need to she it!
In a recent interview, she said she doesn't sing her older songs again... and compared them to paintings that an artist makes and then moves on from.. works she loves but doesn't need to redo.. You can tell from her performances that she is always seeking new...
Hi Fabs - Grace definitely takes you on a journey as she grows and evolves as a young artist. Your perfect and imperfect observation is spot on.. You need to check out her live performance cover of Best Friends during the opening for Florence and the Machines concert- 👍😎.
Thank you for the reaction. I hadn't heard this in awhile, and felt it all over again. Like you, my goose bumps were getting goose bumps, lol. Her lonely, pleading kid voice is what tears me up. This is one of those songs that should contain the warning label: "WARNING: don't listen to this song if prone to depressive moods". 😏
You're right, on many levels. She posted a first version, singing from her bedroom, probably on the day she wrote it. ruclips.net/video/i8ym7uH8cGQ/видео.html Olivia was in school that day and her friends saw the post and told her, and she watched it and cried. That was on June 5, 2016, two days before her audition aired on national TV. BTW, Olivia had done a drawing of Grace with music playing from her ear and when the album was being designed Grace said she wanted that drawing on the cover!
Beautiful Thing 🎼 Grace VanderWaal wrote Beautiful Thing for her sister when she was twelve years old. The song is a musical expression of the bond between love and beauty, a bond so pure that it could have only come from the mind of a child, yet what child could have written such exquisite music? It doesn’t compute. It doesn’t compute because Grace VanderWaal doesn’t compute. She creates... beautiful things.
This song has everything to do with this moment of world pandemic. We are beautiful together and together we will fight this. Grace will become a legend and this song is a masterpiece.
i have to say it, every word and way he describes grace and this song is spot on, she is one of those super dooper people that have that 1 billion percent belief in their talent interpretation, with the tools they use to create and present something that defies everything to do with music, and just blows away all that those already at the top think is perfect and makes something so imperfect yet undeniably perfect in its own right, and just re-writes the whole world, and lets get this right, we are talking about a kid, soon to become a woman but now she is a mere teenager, that's just frightening, and she is in our time thank you so much
With all the Gigs that Grace has done since 12, the Coffee Shop, the overnight bus trips to perform in the next town and the red eye plane flights. When she finally gets the recognition due her, the one thing you can't say about her is that she hasn't paid her dues.
You should really watch her AGT performance of this. It's her first one after the big audition appearance, and everyone was wondering if she could follow it up, and she killed it. It's a stripped-down version of the song but she sings it with such feeling. When it's over she takes a big sigh of relief and you can see how nervous she was leading up to it.
This was a tv spot song for Windex, also some weddings use this for music. it's about her sister. Her voice is just so perfect in this song. You really get a feel for what she can do. She composed this at 12 years old I think. An absolute genius.
Ok I'm going to comment, even though I've watched this reaction and all your reactions half a dozen times each, only cos their so great. this for me is one of the 3 greatest love songs ever written , Beautiful Thing, The first time ever I saw your face, Roberta Flack and Woman by John Lennon. They are all timeless and filled with love and emotion.
She wrote this about her sister, Olivia, who is 3 years older than her. This was the first song, that she sang in the live shows. This song was the music for a commercial on TV (I forgot the product, but I think that it was a baby product).
Can you imagine how popular this song would have been if she would have wrote it for Adele?!?!? I mean come on man.. I would almost say it’s a shame it wasn’t saved for when she was older so it could have gained a lot more traction, but at the same time her writing is still in a class of its own so I don’t think she’s going to have any trouble tipping the charts in a couple of years!! Maybe even sooner than we think 🤙🏻
I'm sure the time will come when other great artists will cover her songs. But no one dares to go for the time, since she is still (too) young. Perhaps it would damage their image.
This trac means to many so many different things :) But to those that say things are new with grace and her words don't know Grace she was 12 , here find another trac from any artist that compares to this But for Grace now or then thanks for the Great reaction my friend , The Grace Effect was kicking it then :) The Texas Gent
I think each of us "Fanderwaals" knows the Windex "The Story of Lucy" commercial !! (by the way, the only commercial I've ever cried on) 🤫😬 But very few people know that Windex (or the advertising agency) has won some prestigious awards !! Among other things, Windex received the "Webby Awards" at the #The RUclips Ad of 2017! (with over 7 million views) Grace pays close attention to "who" and "what" she gives her songs to !! "Sony" also used "Beautiful Thing" in a commercial (for a hi-tech TV) !! For "Honda" Grace has revised the song "Over the Rainbow" and sings it in a "commercial for a new small car"! So we see Grace is not only a "singer / songwriter" but also "businesswoman!" (Dave must have given her some tips!) 😉 One thing is very clear to me! There is no one on this planet who deserves his success, popularity and fans more than Grace Vanderwaal !! 💞 James T 🇩🇪
Agreed with everything you wrote. Just want to add this was the second song on agt. Video of her putting this masterpiece together. Initially called I hold your hand. 😁
@George Schmidt, of course you are absolutely right !! (I should have mentioned it, shame on me) 😞 Grace wrote the song "I'll hold your hand" three months before AGT and released it on June 5th, 2016 !! Until her performance at AGT, Grace worked on the song with the help of Delan Kay (her first music teacher and songwriter), from then on the song was called "Beautiful Thing" "Beautiful Thing" was then reworked by producer Greg Wells (Wells produced the EP "Perfectly Imperfect") Wells replaced the ukulele with a piano and the song as we all know it was born !! By the way, Olivia heard the song for the first time when Grace sang it on AGT !! Olivia was so overwhelmed and touched that she burst into tears !! Tears of joy Of course !! 😭🤧😍 James T 🇩🇪
@ Fable-Nuclear Reactor, I hope I have correctly assessed you and you did not intend to make a reaction video of this "commercial" !! 🤔😬 And one more thing, don't let these "batifoleurs" unsettle you !! You're right, Grace is very special, a gem !! This jewel is not from a jeweler (producer or label) honed, Grace prefers to do it herself and she becomes more radiant than anything that has been there before !! Trust me, you will see it !! 💎💖 James T

Hi Fable. A lot of us fans would love to see you react to A Better Life. This is about her other sibling -her brother. It’s a very profound song as well. Of hope for a Better Life. It’s from this same album
The Story of Lucy ruclips.net/video/k7rqVanT1pM/видео.html is a Windex commercial that uses Beautiful Thing as a powerful background for the commercial. I cried when I saw her on the second audition of AGT and most times after that. One thing I have experienced to Grace's music is that she has mastered the musical techniques to reach in and grasp your heart and emotions and totally enchant and mesmerize you. She is the Beautiful Thing. We should all listen to this song written by a 12 yr old girl. Perhaps we can learn something from her. Another spectacular reaction my friend.
Great reaction Fable,I've herd all her song and covers I'm here for your take on her and you do not dissapoint,You might want to do Better life next or to keep with songs that relate to whats going on right now do Hope For Change

Yes, it's about her older sister. They have a great sibling relationship. She could sing this song as she ages, and it could be about a romantic relationship, but that's not the original meaning. Her sister may not even be home anymore, or may not be for much longer.
Listen to her song "Better Life" she writes this song for her brother as I recall her saying during her first US tour. You should watch her sings the song at the ACL LIVE concert in Austin City. It's unbelievable...
The most perfect love song ever written, about the purest kind of love.

Erfedwe I saw the bugging parts of AGT and it was amazing!! 🤯🤯🤯
This song was for her sister. When she originally performed this song on AGT it was a bit more upbeat. The song as you hear it now was used in a Windex commercial, "The Story of Lucy". She wrote this song at 12, let that sink in. This is a song that hits you in the chest.

@@pratimoksha1456 I can never watch that commercial without bursting out crying from the sheer beauty of her song and voice.
It was also used by the US Army, here, ruclips.net/video/bjzDSSzFjPs/видео.html
Also used in a Sony TV ad and countless weddings around the world. Link to Sony ad:

Unbelievable ☺️
As I'm sure you'll hear from others, this is my favorite song Grace Vanderwaal has written, and in my opinion may go down as one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. It's mind boggling to think she wrote this at 12 years old. Incredible.
💯💯💯💯 incredible
For me the song is one of the most beautiful love songs of the last decades. Grace wrote the song for her sister Olivia at the age of 12, but Grace wrote the song so brilliantly that it fits every loving relationship. (Beautiful thing now a popular wedding song). The listener asks himself automatically, Who is my Beautiful Thing. And yes, I'm thankful, I also have a lot of beautiful thing. Grace writes so awesome to use a beautiful love song without the word "love" and yet we hear with every line that Grace LOVES singing ✌️😎🇩🇪🇪🇺
💯💯💯💯💯 agree with you
@@traktician
Sorry to be "that guy", technically it's a song describing a beautiful relationship (her sister). I know you're not stupid. But I guess technically I am "that guy".😎
My respect to you as well, Albert.
Coolbreeze Productions I did think it was about her sister ...
@@traktician
Yeah, I think it's even more impressive to me, that she chose to describe the relationship as a "beautiful thing", verses the more personal yet typical choice of describing the individual.
💯💯💯💯💯 she is special, you need to shed a tear
Yes!!! Clay!!
The entire song is incredible. The build up at the end of the song when she literally wails it out...I've heard it maybe 20 times now and still get goose bumps. Super chills!
Regarding Clay,
I'm glad you mentioned it and the live AGT version of it.
“Who are you!?” Yeah, or maybe more accurate, from which planet??? Grace is otherworldly. Love your reaction.
OMG What A Reaction!! Thanks. Your Great. You Get Grace. 🌼🎶
Thanks so much.. I really appreciate it ☺️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️
It's a song for the ages. Pure love depicted perfectly. She was extremely wise when in the video from home she says she did not want to give the background of the song for listeners to not have preconception about it. She knew, at 12, that her love song for her sister was true for any other type of true love. Proof of it is that it has been used for commercials and wedding/proposal videos that do not depict sisterly love. It has been used even to describe love for high quality sound and images as in the Sony ad. Amazing. What other songs are so universal? I must confess that I have even pictured God's love for me while listening to it.
Not many... 💯💯💯💯 agree
Love is love; in all it’s forms, it’s a beautiful thing always. So pure.
Christine VR 💯💯💯💯 correct, very much agree with you ☺️
Congratulation !!! Now you got the grace bug once it enters your heart it remains there forever. Only a few of us millions who see and feel the messages in the lyrics of this song. It's ok to cry as I always do each time I listen and savor the sweetness, love, and life of this song. Indeed the best love song I ever heard.
💯💯💯💯 she is amazing
Absolutely gorgeous... she often leaves me speechless 🤯
I never heard the whole thing.
Beautiful, Just BEAUTIFUL
Children are capable of a unlimited amount of unconditional love and when you find a child like Grace who is capable of putting it into words then you get this, one of the most beautiful love songs ever written
💯💯💯💯💯 agree, they are
Yes, this is truly a beautiful song. And it is the imperfections in her voice that give it that beauty. If she had hit every note perfectly it would not have been nearly so beautiful.
☺️☺️❤️❤️❤️
John Lennon, Bob Dylan, and Grace Vanderwaal!

And this little girl just absorbs the pressure like a champ!!! 🤯🤯🤯 i would fold like an origami😂😂😂😂
I have very little to add to the other comments that have already been made. You get Grace. As you said, she is one of the very few with the gift. In my book, that makes you special. And yes, if we could only see, every day, what a beautiful thing we are, ALL together........ Exceptional reaction to one of the very best from Grace!
Thanks so much ☺️💯
I think "Beautiful Thing" is by far the most touching and tender love song ever written !!
Without that the word
"Love" occurs in it !!
I call something "simply awesome" !!
Grace is a genius without question !!

Ty for 2 :) you have to watch her agt rendition of this. She emotes so much more imo. And of course her original agt performance that started it all-"I dont know my name" with 103million views. Our little Mozart is lightyears ahead of the mainstream
💯💯💯💯 correct
I told you that Grace is a whole new Universe to explore.
You were right 👍👍
Take a few minutes to watch the Windex commercial that used this song. It's a tear jerker! She performed this for her quarter final performance on AGT. Written early at age 12. This was used at weddings a couple of weeks later where I lived. Still is. It's about her sister, but it could be between any two closer people. One of the great love songs!
Will do.. thank you ☺️💯

Love it. Your reaction was spot on. To think, we are just at the beginning of this girls career. She is the sole reason I use social media.
Thanks so much ☺️❤️
As some already said, this one was for and about her sister Olivia that is also her best friend. 🙂👍
On that note, im sure you'd love "Light the sky" too

This is just beautiful... she just amazes me every time I listen to her 🤯🤯
Check out the Windex commercial that used this song. It's called "The Story Of Lucy". You can thank me later.
steve yes do this. This song and her album version of DKCM is the most heartfelt earnest songs i have ever heard.
Will absolutely do so
One of my all time favorite Grace songs. Can’t believe this 16 year old prodigy has a catalog of about 37 mostly recorded songs and some songs just posted in their purest form. She is Joni Mitchell, Bob Dillon, and the Beetles rolled up into a cute Pixie blonde. Soon to conquer the world.
☺️☺️☺️❤️🙏
This is pure genius lyrics, like Mel B told her 4yrs ago during AGT, you need to know just how good you are, and Grace still as humble as ever, still doesn't realize how great she is!!
She has already conquered the world. The world just hasn't realized it yet.
Amen!
My favourite line. You're my other half you're what makes me me. Poetry !
❤️❤️❤️❤️ she is just all round beautiful with her words
Hands down, my favorite reaction ever, period.
This is a universal love song , written by a 12 year old , a song used in so many places , one of the best love songs written in my opinion , just let that sink in
🤯🤯🤯🤯 yip... just mind blowing
Really no words for this song. As much as I love "Lungs" and "DKCM", this song will be played for a thousand years and cause a trillion tears.

💯💯💯💯 I do... people seem to forget what she is putting out at her age 🤯🤯
Thanks so much.. really appreciate it ☺️❤️ we need people like this on this world
You have said that you prefer Grace live. Stray live at the Slipper room mar 5 2019. ‘Escape my mind’ the late late show with James Corden July 23 2018. ‘The City’ VEVO nov 26 2019. ‘A Better Life ‘ fender . Thank you for your reactions.
Always a pleasure ☺️❤️
This girl is just brillInt 👀👀👀❤️
Written for her sister, wrote it when she was 12.

A nuclear reactor?)
EDIT - so, seconds ago I clicked the submit button after typing that you were a nuclear reactor, and I look up and there it is in your description! Spooky!
I guess Grace and her songs were, has been, and will always be relevant. "Too few" has discovered the "too many" she has to give. Your reaction just made me fall all over again. Good stuff man, keep it up!

❤️❤️❤️❤️☺️🙏 thanks for this
Beautiful Thing 🎼
Grace VanderWaal wrote Beautiful Thing for her sister when she was twelve years old.
💯💯💯💯💯 agree
Yes she wrote it for her sister who by the way did the art on the cd that is displayed on your video here.
This was her first live performance on AGT after her audition at 12
🤯🤯🤯 as usual
i have to say it, every word and way he describes grace and this song is spot on, she is one of those super dooper people that have that 1 billion percent belief in their talent interpretation, with the tools they use to create and present something that defies everything to do with music, and just blows away all that those already at the top think is perfect and makes something so imperfect yet undeniably perfect in its own right, and just re-writes the whole world, and lets get this right, we are talking about a kid, soon to become a woman but now she is a mere teenager, that's just frightening, and she is in our time thank you so much
☺️☺️☺️ thanks so much for this
@@traktician your welcome
With all the Gigs that Grace has done since 12, the Coffee Shop, the overnight bus trips to perform in the next town and the red eye plane flights. When she finally gets the recognition due her, the one thing you can't say about her is that she hasn't paid her dues.

You should really watch her AGT performance of this. It's her first one after the big audition appearance, and everyone was wondering if she could follow it up, and she killed it. It's a stripped-down version of the song but she sings it with such feeling. When it's over she takes a big sigh of relief and you can see how nervous she was leading up to it.

This is about her sister
She wrote this about her sister, Olivia, who is 3 years older than her. This was the first song, that she sang in the live shows. This song was the music for a commercial on TV (I forgot the product, but I think that it was a baby product).
This song was written about/to her older sister.
That’s actually very true 😱😱😱😱
Have to disagree king cause her voice at this age made this song soo much better than I think it would have been with an older more mature voice
She wrote this for her sister when she was 12. Watch the AGT version of her with the ukulele.

Grace pays close attention to "who" and "what" she gives her songs to !!
"Sony" also used "Beautiful Thing" in a commercial (for a hi-tech TV) !!
For "Honda" Grace has revised the song "Over the Rainbow" and sings it in a "commercial for a new small car"!
So we see Grace is not only a "singer / songwriter" but also "businesswoman!" (Dave must have given her some tips!) 😉
One thing is very clear to me! There is no one on this planet who deserves his success, popularity and fans more than Grace Vanderwaal !! 💞

Agreed with everything you wrote. Just want to add this was the second song on agt. Video of her putting this masterpiece together. Initially called I hold your hand. 😁
I agree with you fully... she deserves mad success, special human being this! ☺️❤️🙏
@George Schmidt,
of course you are absolutely right !!
(I should have mentioned it, shame on me) 😞
Grace wrote the song "I'll hold your hand" three months before AGT and released it on June 5th, 2016 !!
Until her performance at AGT, Grace worked on the song with the help of Delan Kay (her first music teacher and songwriter), from then on the song was called "Beautiful Thing"
"Beautiful Thing" was then reworked by producer Greg Wells (Wells produced the EP "Perfectly Imperfect")
Wells replaced the ukulele with a piano and the song as we all know it was born !!
By the way, Olivia heard the song for the first time when Grace sang it on AGT !!
Olivia was so overwhelmed and touched that she burst into tears !!
Tears of joy Of course !! 😭🤧😍

@ Fable-Nuclear Reactor,
I hope I have correctly assessed you and you did not intend to make a reaction video of this "commercial" !! 🤔😬
And one more thing, don't let these "batifoleurs" unsettle you !!
You're right, Grace is very special, a gem !!
This jewel is not from a jeweler (producer or label)
honed, Grace prefers to do it herself and she becomes more radiant than anything that has been there before !!
Trust me, you will see it !! 💎💖

James T Kirk I’m very happy to react to that ☺️❤️ and yes.. she is special!! ❤️❤️❤️👀
By the way when you watch her at ACL LIVE watch her thru Facebook as the sound there sound better as it was enhanced so that we Vanderwall fan will enjoy it. Just click the link that was written on the page.
Thanks so much... I’m going there right now.. making coffee as I am done with my work day and going to watch ☺️☺️❤️
Thanks so much for this ☺️☺️❤️🙏
Great reaction Fable,I've herd all her song and covers I'm here for your take on her and you do not dissapoint,You might want to do Better life next or to keep with songs that relate to whats going on right now do Hope For Change
We need these kind of people right now!! ☺️☺️ thanks so much for love and support ☺️❤️
it's about her sister...
🙏🙏🙏🙏☺️❤️
Hey Fil, if you're planning on reacting to a whole bunch of her content, you may find this list of all her (currently) 143 performances available online (and music videos) useful: vandervault.org/catalog/

This helps... thanks so much for this ☺️❤️
Yes, it's about her older sister. They have a great sibling relationship. She could sing this song as she ages, and it could be about a romantic relationship, but that's not the original meaning. Her sister may not even be home anymore, or may not be for much longer.
Jeff Stumpf it’s a song that will live forever either way ❤️
Listen to her song "Better Life" she writes this song for her brother as I recall her saying during her first US tour. You should watch her sings the song at the ACL LIVE concert in Austin City. It's unbelievable...
That’s on the list and definitely coming soon! ☺️☺️☺️
