Nice, Nice, Nice. A very interesting choice for a reaction. To a degree this was, for a HUGE Fanderwaal like myself, a walk down memory lane. Hard to believe that at 16, this young woman has a highlight reel, and there have been many more to add since this was made!
Glad to see youre alive ,I'm not trying to be so respectfull or doing something wrong ,but I remember someone posted on Grace Vanderwaal Fan Club Italty posted something about you, again I'm not disrespectful but just concerned about that comment,so please letme know that you are really alive.
As a Grace fan ever since she first appeared on AGT and a subscriber, I’m happy to see you having more of her amazing performances. During this quarantine she is churning out new stuff and also producing her music using Logic and equipment sent to her recently by her label. Appreciate your honest comments.
Grace = heart and soul, " perfectly imperfect "; like a flight of dandy lion seeds. Perfectly acceptable to this old man.........love your honesty, Maunalee OLD PETER
The Darkness keeps chasing me version you watched is at Tiny desk is REALLY good, also Moonlight at Billboard rising star award and her speech, man, react to that one!
Thank you for another Grace reaction. Been a fan of hers since AGT. I hope someone requests her cover of In My Blood she did on the Elvis Duran show and it would be great to see a reaction to her performance and speech at the billboard music awards.
Thanks to eric and you for that reaction. I like that u don't hesitate to be critical or point things out that are off or u don't like in ur reactions. I'm a big gv fan and i think i over dosed watching that compilation. Covered 11 to 15 years old and very representative, but not any of her recent material which has gone in a much diff direction, which says a lot about her mind and the way her label, columbia/syco, seems to be allowing her a lot of freedom to chart her own path. Im sure you've been or will be requested to react to her newer songs from her Letters vol. 1 EP dropped late last year as well as self-produced material she's leaked during the current stay at home situation using garage band and Logic. Thanks again...enjoy not only your verbal but your facial reactions!
Very nice reaction as always, I saw her once on a live stream and someone told her that they tried to write a song and it wasn't any good, but Grace told them to just keep writing because for her she only keeps 1 in 5 songs she writes, the other 4 are just bad. It was so good how encouraging she was.
One bad note from a 14 year old who on that video has been on a very long tour,I think we could cut her some slack. That song is a cover that if you really want to hear what she can do with it you need to watch the live "Best Friend"Florida version.I think you need to do way more Grace to really get what she's about and just how good she is. 10 of those songs she wrote. She is so much more then a cover artits as some of the young female singer's you seem to like
That was cool but I’m not sure that was the best way to listen to her. Not this early in your reaction of her. Good idea by your patron but after watching that I can see that whole songs are the only way to get a true feel for how good she really is. While you can get some good snippets here and there with this montage, multiply liking her by a thousand if you would have listened to each of those performances in there entirety.
It is a bit like meeting his musical love. It seems as if our eye sees a bud open up to its full splendour and fullness. A talent becomes a star. yeah..
Wow - Brought back some great memories of Grace opening for Imagine Dragons Evolve tour in 2018 (over 40 concerts) - Grace continues to evolve and grow as a young artist. 🙏

In some of her interviews you can hear that she has invisalign braces on. And she decided later to keep the gap in her teeth she talked about that in a live a while back.
You’ve got good instincts Mauna Lee. Darkness Keeps Chasing Me is a Grace V original masterpiece. I think she wrote it when she was 12 and it STILL makes me cry!
Grace is now 16 years old. All of the performances in this compilation were from when she was 12-14 years old. Part of the chorus for 'Clearly' (2018) may sound familiar, as it matches part of the chorus of 'I Can See Clearly Now" -- 1973 (Johnny Nash). Nash is one of the credited co-writers for 'Clearly'.
Grace was 11 to 14 in those clips just a small glimpse into her early career alot of original songs there and some covers. Grace has much more control of that beautiful perfectly imperfect voice now cant wait till you hear some updated grace vanderwaal the new ep letters vol I is amazing as well as her single today and tomorrow she wrote while filming the movie stargirl
This is the one! React to Grace singing A-Tean at paste studios . She has a guitar Shawn Mendes gave her ,and she decided to learn how to play the guitar and learn the song in one week before performing . And she nailed it!
Thanks Maunalee. Kinda surprised the compiler didn't include one of her most popular live performances of the premier in the NYC Slipper Room of "Stray." Perhaps one of the best songs to showcase Grace's voice, power, and songwriting ability ruclips.net/video/khlN_NahE6w/видео.html Oh well, it's not possible to show all her great performances in just a few minutes, so thanks again!
The compilation was posted to RUclips in December 2018, which was before Stray in the Slipper Room. Definitely one of my favorite performances by Grace.
Your up to about 14yrs old here. She's 16yrs old now, and during our stay at home time, she's been producing some things at home for fun. And it's really good. Letters V2 is due out, and the previews Grace has been leaking are awesome. Keep up these reactions
If you have some spare time, watch this. It’s too much to react to, but It’s her first real festival and I believe the first( or nearly) time that she sang a few songs for her Just the Beginning album. She was still is disbelief that she was getting so many cheers and had genuine fans, it’s cute. I think her performances of city song, florets and better life are amongst my favorites she’s ever done of those tunes. Also, check out burned from the same album, way more maturity and depth in the writing, imho. ruclips.net/video/5J-tYlq7ddQ/видео.html. She’s only 13, at this festival, I think, and not as mature and polished a she is now, but it was a hint of things to come.
Someone on Twitter put up a 5 second video of Billy Eilish running across a stage singing and it sounded like me singing it was so bad. People in the 70s were so stoned at the Led Zeppelin concerts they could care less how bad Plant sounded. If you just stand there in front of your mic during your concert and don't move just concentrate on the song chances are you will hit every note, that's what many singers did in the era of Judy Garland and Doris Day. Judy and Doris did that because in those days you came for the singer and you weren't stoned out of your head on acid or Hawaiian Gold or had 15 beers during the show. Grace's people know how good she is and pretty much guessed her future I think that's why they don't care what video gets released while other up and coming singers will only released planned videos with no imperfections. Neil Young went back home to Winnipeg to visit his mother and he ran into Randy Bachman. Randy asked Neil what are you up to? Neil said "I sing in a rock band in California" and Randy said "What, your a terrible singer" It's Rock, you don't have to be a good singer any more. People want to hear Mick Jagger not Mel Torme. I'm guessing you know who Neil Young is and Randy is the guitarist for The Guess Who and went on to sing for Bachman Turner Overdrive. Today when you judge and compare singers like saaaay Grace with Angelina, your almost comparing Tina Turner to Karen Carpenter
Yeah, think of Angelina as you would any instrumentalist (violinist, pianist, trumpeter, etc). It would make no sense to compare an instrumentalist with a composer. Angelina's instrument is her voice. The music comes off a written score and into her head and out her mouth. Grace just skips the written score part. Mozart had it all in his head too and committing it to paper only just so that in case he were to die it would not die with him.
@@kenaldri4923 Grace is like a young Carol King but with a singing career where as Angelina is popular for the same reason Aretha Franklin was, Aretha sang Carol's songs. The only difference I can add to that is Angelina is doing Aretha singing Carol's songs
Angelina, Grace, Emanne, Angelica, Darcy Lynn with or without puppets - outstanding young female talents among others. Thanks to RUclips, the talent "competitions", you and the other reaction people for spreading the word about these performers. Imagine how many others were never noticed before "technology". I know there were decades when there was a smattering of young talent, but wow, this very present era is amazing. AND, we're not pigeonholed into one genre. Those 5 young ladies I mentioned span the range from rock, blues, jazz, opera and more. You mentioned Grace was pitchy in one song. I agree - so what. It happens, especially with her style. Idina Menzel, (or as John Travolta called her Adele Dazeem haha ) had some very memorable pitch, cringe worthy moments, but she's considered one of the best of the Broadway divas. Anyway thanks again for your incites and your daughters cameo. I think one day she may sneak in without you and give her reaction lol. Stay safe and healthy for you and your family.
Nice reaction. And yes, the note was definitely off, lol. Doesn’t happen often, she normally has a very good feeling when to go for the high note. I’m not sure about the compilation, though. It’s well done, whoever did it, put a lot of effort in it. But I would have chosen different footage, especially the Summerfest performance (the off note) wasn’t her best day. Also, A Better Life for example is quite magical at Austin City Limits. Darkness is imo best at Grammy Museum. She has done beautiful songs at Loveloud (white dress, sunglasses), not sure why only cover songs were chosen here. Also Best Friend (off note) was very beautiful when she opened for Florence and the machine. So overall I am missing her better performances. Well, everybody has preferences. This is not meant to be criticism to the video. Please do more of Grace. I give ur reaction a 10. Stay healthy.
Erfedwe Apparently this compilation was made before some of her better performances. But still, Loveloud, ACL, or Grammy Museum would have been available. Nevertheless, a fan put this together and I appreciate it.
JRicke anything Grace related is appreciated and I am grateful for the time and energy that the fan put in to making this. That said, given the material available at that time, I would have chosen differently. Perhaps my video would have been less well received and others would have found my choices to be less than perfect. But since I have not made such a video, I have little room to comment. I will instead tip my cap to the person who made this and thank them for their efforts.
PLEASE ....more reactions to Grace! Your reactions are genuine and I appreciate your honest reaction, especially in your (Beautiful by the way ...💖) ...eyes!!! Grace is the most important musical artist since John freakin' Lennon! You want deep artistic satisfaction,? More Grace!!! I love your stuff. ( Just please please PLEEEEEASE .....no more compilations!) May I suggest Grace LIVE in Boston at the Royale Theatre performing "The City"? I think it's GREAT!! Maybe you will too.
The clip of her singing Darkness Keeps Chasing Me is from the Tiny Desk Concert Series on NPR. There is a great story about how that appearance came about and it is worth visiting the You Tube page just to read Bob Boilen's story of his first experience with Grace. ruclips.net/video/SBziTI8VfAQ/видео.html
I thought I was a well versed Grace Vanderwaal fan, but I had no idea she played the piano. I've never seen her do that before. It was a bit rough, maybe that's why.
2 Songs yes darkness keeps chasing me,and the story of lucy, ft grace vanderwaal, beutiful thing, odley a windex comercial, but was voted best comercial of the year.
I had to go back and check, and you're right, the note was a little pitchy. The cover performance of "Best Friend" was in the summer of 2018 at Summerfest in Milwaukee, right in the middle of her stint opening for Imagine Dragons' Evolve tour that summer (40+ arenas and sheds), and she actually had a bad cold a day or so before. Not an excuse, just an explanation and a little background for you.
Well Maunalee, I wasn't joking when I wrote about who my favourite singers/band were! So I'm very glad I subbed and yes clicked the bell! LOL...great reaction as always! Keep it up hon! I have to check out if you reacted to Dimash or Billie...hmm! But yep...The Warning & Grace...I know, I'm weird but great music is great music. No matter the genre!
What you call I want to be your number one, that song is called Best Friend and it is a cover of Rex Orange County. Her best performance of that song can be watched here: ruclips.net/video/29EBewKX8Cw/видео.html Her best performance of A Better Life cans be watched here: ruclips.net/video/nTphEozUkxg/видео.html I can't believe that they did not include Stray (Live from The Slipper Room) a very good live performance, you can watch it here: ruclips.net/video/khlN_NahE6w/видео.html And her best performance of A better life here: ruclips.net/video/nTphEozUkxg/видео.html
The compilation was created in December 2018, which was before the Slipper Room performance. Don't think they would have been able to leave it out otherwise
Love this compilation it shows Grace by herself in her room on a live sharing with fans , her earlier performances , small venues with just her uke, tv appearances and live in front of large crowds with a band, she can do all aspects of performance , that makes her special, couple that together with the fact she can not only write but produce here own songs , that is good for any age. Here is a link to one of her latest self produced and written tracks she shared with her fans , this more than likely will never be released but give it a listen its called Faults. ruclips.net/video/BSV5cW9trgk/видео.html
Oh her teeth have gone through a transformation. Yeah she's had them done. She kept the space in her front teeth though. You really have to see the individual performances.
Kaedene Powell omg YES! Aurora’s Christmas concert at that cathedral in her homeland Norway.., (sorry can’t remember the church name Nico... something). PHENOMENAL. Maunalee if you are looking for goosebumps galore watch that performance! That being said I am a massive Grace Vanderwaal Fan. This was a fun ride through her performances. Too bad there weren’t more recent ones in this compilation, but she is still a standout brilliant singer songwriter and so enjoyed the trip down memory lane.
So you've reacted to Angelina and Aurora, next should be Sigrid ;) Also a semi known much older singer is Sissel, shes probably best known internationally for the Titanic overture and with Warren G in Prince Igor.
I’ll be honest I’m disappointed with this. The compilation was fine(lots of effort!) but ruins any future reaction to the MTV Push version of River, or the Darkness on at Tiny Desk. I’d have loved to see those reactions straight up. Thanks Maunalee good reaction.
Weird I just watched this today for first time today. Yeah. One pitchy note ..but who knows..it was a cover of a person who sings kinda pitchy. Maybe it was suppose to go that way. Hehe I was curious. So that note was a G#. And if you put it on a tuner. Its a lot of green. Js. It does weird through. Maybe out of key . but not a bad note. If that makes any sense.
Can you check out Sabrina Carpenter? She is a singer that used to be on Disney Channel but she has a very unique voice. I wonder what you would think of her. I think she is 20?
Very nice... Maunalee could you play.... AT LAST by Angelina Jordan … she was 10 and this was a live performance.... I still she is the total package, I can listen to her sing the same songs over and over and over. be safe. Rob
Maunalee, I love your reactions, although I have mixed feelings about the 8-ball. Sorry i can't compete financially with your Patreon and Paypal subscribers but I think you'll like "You Are in my September" by Igor Ktutoy He's the bald guy who writes the songs for Dimash and accompanies him on the piano. This video is a poignant love song without a single word being sung!
Just wondering what happened with BAND-MAID. You watch one video and seemed excited to watch more. Then you watch one more and said you wouldn't watch them again. Very confusing.
I'm a Swifty too but her new stuff seems emotionless. I'm also a singer and fanderwaal and some of her live stuff makes me cringe but I'm here for the songwiter. "Darkness keeps chasing me"(DKCM) and some others blow me away that she wrote at 12 and 13. Thanks for keeping it real.
I know what you mean Patrick after being a Taylor fan someone like Grace who just sings and doesn't care if you think it's cringy or not it reminds me of my youth when Streisand fans thought Tina Turner and Janis were cringy. I'd say they preferred Gordan Lightfoots Bobby McGee and CCR'S Proud Mary
Grace was a favorite of mine on the TV Show competition, adorable, sincere, unique voice and a good sense of the world she was in, which came across in her original lyrics. Her later songs, she is reaching for those "Money Notes" which I call just LOUD notes. They have their place when its part of the natural emotion of the song, the lyrics, the story. IN her earlier songs, and some of her more introspective songs, she has those negative spaces that allows the listener to pause and think on what she just sang... let it sink in. To sing for singing sake is what I do in the shower, but that is not what I expect from Grace, she is an excellent singer-song writer. Like they said in A STAR IS BORN: "Songs have to tell the truth" as the singer see's it. Grace has many songs that do that, but other that I am not sure what I am listening to. She does not have the greatest voice, but when she sings from the heart, it is beautiful and real. Most singers have 30-40 songs and yet we remember only a few. Grace does not need to go down that path, she can writes two songs a year the rest of her life and have more memorable songs than some of the most recognized names in the industry. This is what Adele, has, this is what Carly Simon has, what many of the great singer-song writers have. A great vision of the world as they see it, and a way to convey their perspective with lyrics that convey the raw truth of their story. I hope Grace controls her career and stays in herself.

@@malcolmboswell9717 good voice , but just don't feel it , good voices are many real deal musicians that project emotion and there own style not so many. Here is another snippet proving Grace can indeed sing with the best of them but always with her style and take ruclips.net/video/DhWheZ4tBuU/видео.html
@@gregcadman6102 You proved my point Greg, great musicians are not about great voices, but delivery... Grace has a unique voice but a beautiful delivery when not trying so hard to give the "Money Note" as she does in some of her more commercial songs. I am sure not by choice. The music industry can chew up and spit out great artist all in the name of commercial sales. We need more folks like you who appreciate true artistry. Now when you have great voice and great delivery like Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, the singer from Evanescence, Heart, etc. you get magic. Grace, if she stays her lane, is right there.
I've liked Grace since her initial performance on AGT. I've not cares for everything she's done but do consider myself a fan hers. That said, while there were individual performances I really liked in the compilation, I really didn't like the video. No transitions just a mish mash of snippets of her performing. I know why you did it Maun, let's just hope you aren't requested to do it again.
You cannot compare Angelina to Grace they are two different people different style of music, Angelina is more reserved where Grace is more like a flower child, Angelina has more to offer to the world, Grace is a talented singer. Thank you!❗💜
Best Friend-Grace VanderWaal This time she performed this song much better. You have to watch it and maybe you should you make a reaction of it. ruclips.net/video/29EBewKX8Cw/видео.html
I have some video of Grace at the Florence show in Atlanta , not quality video like the Best Friend recording though . ruclips.net/channel/UCLMSPjWclSu0xAz1PkHBk1A
@@chmtopforever2177 Thanks, but the quality is really really bad. Their are other records to find on RUclips which are much better. But I have a question. Did you visit her so many times and recorded her performance s?
Once again not a Grace fan, can’t quite put my finger on the reason why. I definitely don’t deny she has talent I sure couldn’t do what she does and if I were in a long road trip and someone in the car wanted to listen to her I’d be okay with it for a little while 😁. So...still no fan but remain a loyal fan of yours Maunalee. As before a like for you . I love your thoughts on the artists. P.S. I’m ready for those I just got mad cause I don’t care for Grace’s voice or music. Bring on the hate like last time.😂😂😂
It's all good. Opinions and even criticism are not necessarily hate. Imo 99.99% of people understand that music, art, hobbies, its all personal taste. It's just that .01% that are often vocal AND get bent enuf to post silly comments.
You shouldn't get hate for an honest subjective opinion, based on a fair, open-minded sampling. It's your opinion, and perfectly valid. Grace herself used to wear a sweatshirt emblazoned with the logo, "Not for Everybody". You be you, boo.
For those of us who are fans, we welcome your comments and thumbs up even if only for Maunalee and her visiting wee ones. As Grace has said, even negative comments help her in the long run.
I wasn’t going to watch it but then I figured, it’s a compilation maybe I’ll hear something I like but I didn’t I posted a comment not to irk her fans just cause right or wrong I have an opinion. Too bad you were bothered not my intention.
Amazing Grace
She's evolved so much since the talent show days, talent and hard work!
My personal favorite is "Stray" Live at the Slipper Room.
The short performance of DKCM that you saw was from her NPR Tiny Desk concert. Probably one of my favorite concerts by her.
I think Utica is the one place where Grace just closed her eyes and blasted out DKCM.

you did not include the covers released through the Stargirl soundtrack: Thirteen, Be true to your school, We got the Beat, and my personnal favorite: Give me Love
Nice list. How did you select those particular live performances?
I think the one open mike was pre AGT, which would make her 11. Wasn't sure about Exes & Ohs.
In some of her interviews you can hear that she has invisalign braces on. And she decided later to keep the gap in her teeth she talked about that in a live a while back.
Grace is great recorded.....she is even more outstanding live. I think she was gonna get the teeth fixed but decided she liked her gap.
Here is a list, in order, of the pieces appear on the video; including, if originals (age when written), if covers (original artist), and age when performed.

NOTES:
Grace is the first credited writer in all of the originals in the above list, all of which also had co-writers -- except for "A Better Life" for which she is the only one credited.
This is a great collection. Obviously the work of a Fanderwaal!
@@Jeff_674 Thanks. I thought I'd seen everything by Grace on YT, but missed this one, so I was unaware of the posting date.
Dancing in the Moonlight was on Ellen's show and it was the best song, ever.
I was thinking the same thing while watching this. There are definitely better clips available for this type of compilation.
@@Erfedwe I´m standing next to you tipping my hat ;)
JRicke - Any other suggestions? Your others were good.
It was great to revisit this!
Her best "produced" vids are moonlight, city, and clearly.

She dabbles with the piano and will be the first to say she is not that good at it
2 Songs yes darkness keeps chasing me,and the story of lucy, ft grace vanderwaal, beutiful thing, odley a windex comercial, but was voted best comercial of the year.
She has a new song that came out less than a week ago. 😊

AWESOME!
Nice collection, but missed a few key performances - Valerie at the Slipper Room and Vienna at the RUclips live event are both incredible.
❤💙💚💜💛🧡👍👍✌✌

The compilation was created in December 2018, which was before the Slipper Room performance. Don't think they would have been able to leave it out otherwise
Listen to a song she just made herself - very progressive very experimental for her but WONDERFUL. Called Happy Songs
Imagine having teeth like that and still be beautiful
Someone needs to make a newer compilation , these were all ages 12-14 but it was amazing still !
I meant she wrote most of the songs
You will like Aurora too. React to her live performances.
So you've reacted to Angelina and Aurora, next should be Sigrid ;)
Also a semi known much older singer is Sissel, shes probably best known internationally for the Titanic overture and with Warren G in Prince Igor.
To each their own. Thats all I can say
Darkness keeps chasing me studio, poser studio, Gucci shoes studio. Check them out

Only about half of them.
Can you check out Sabrina Carpenter? She is a singer that used to be on Disney Channel but she has a very unique voice. I wonder what you would think of her. I think she is 20?
Have a suggestion/question...Tori Amos Northern Lad, have you ever listened/reacted? So awesome.

Hey, Kiddo, I love it when you show us your goose bumps. I’m just waiting for you to do a dot-to-dot with them. Anyone else?
Disagree about her voice , one of the best out there in my opinion , listen to this ruclips.net/video/uKXCe9B1VdM/видео.html
