Sometimes sequels are good, and sometimes they're great. The Spyderco designed Byrd Meadowlark 2 folding knife is a well-built, great looking follow up that brings fantastic improvements to an already great knife. Changes include a straightened spine in place of the old, unattractive hump that kept many Byrd watchers away (including myself), also a full-flat ground blade for better slicing and great aesthetics. Subtle changes to the handle shape were also made. A new Spyderco-like package announces the great improvements, and cements a closer relationship between the parent and sub-brand. Overall, this is an affordable new knife that has won me over to the brand for good.

The Meadowlark 2 and the Cara Cara 2 make me question the pricing of other knives. Unbelievable value. 'Must have' knives for anyone that appreciates a bargain. Good review, as usual LBS.
Just bought one for my 5 year olds sixth birthday thanks to this review, lots of youtubers moan about poor subscriptions, make reviews like this and it’s an instant subscribe. Thanks from me and my boys.
Love the Byrd series. I have a Cara Cara 2, waiting for the meadowlark 2, all black, half serrated, G10. I cant wait. Awesome reviews dude.
Took mine apart used some super fine grit lapping paste and a dremel and polished the contact points for the blade and lock. Then lubricated and put back together it will now almost free fall (needs a slight wrist motion to start it) with lock pressed down and also has no blade play. Great value esp after the new set up.
Have watched many of your reviews good stuff thanks, I finally got a meadowlark and have been carrying a native, have to say the native and meadowlark are similar in many ways. Keep up the good work.
I own two Byrd knives (Meadowlark Rescue & Robin 2 Serrated) and like them both a lot. I do want to get that G-10 Cara Cara! I was in Detroit a couple weeks ago and almost bought the CC2 after laying with it at an Army Surplus, but I had a Kelty Noah 12 in my sights that took priority. Thanks for the review!
Totally agree. The Byrd gets so many things right, that so few do. Love the dual faced direction raised grippings, flat spot in center to accommodate snag-free pocket clip preference & thumb rest positioning, top/bottom jimping and the best ergo's allowing comfort no matter how you hold it.
i love my meadowlark 2. its my exclusive EDC, its stayed sharp waaaaay longer than all of my other EDC knives.
great review man! i love those byrd knives i'll have to get my self some
I got the Cara Cara 2 FRN and I love it!
excellent examination!
just order one I love it have a spyderco but love the finger spots on this one so I ordered it hoping for big things as a edc knife thanks man great vid sold me cheers
@TheLateBoyScout thanks will do. im actually really impressed with the new byrds so far id really like to get my hands on one
Great video you made up my mind to get one or hmmm i think both...
Good vid a la nutnfancy.
Nice background on your index sheet.
I'm sold. Gonna order today.
My favorite edc knife .Affordable, lightweight, nice blade shape(i got hollow ground -plain edge) for edc using and excellent grip for a little knife.
Great review. I prefer my meadowlark 2 over my delica. I like being able to choke up higher on the blade and 88cr13mov is so easy to get wicked sharp. I also think that the meadowlark bio-directional frn grips better than the volcano frn due to the squared off edges found in the grip pattern. As far as the blade design, they are different because of material, hole design, and choile. But the over geometry of both blades are the same. They both have the same leaf geometry. Great knife for the $!
i bought it about 1 year ago and i think is one of the best EDCs you can ever buy. I'm not a person who spends more than 40$ on a knife and this one is probably the most compact amazing knife I own. lightweight, grippy, sharp and strong make it my #1 EDC, if only I didn't go study in UK and it's illegal yo carry
Lorenzo Giancristofaro
There are other options from byrd called turn and robin
Just bought the FRN Meadowlark2- hope it rocks.
I thought the same thing when I first saw this,do the Resilience next please.
Do you happen to know where I can find a chart that shows which models are the same sizes with spyderco, Byrd, and ganzo
I've been looking for a good quality, inexpensive EDC blade and this definitely fits the bill. I may have to pick this up
Nice little EDC knife or "kit" knife. For a knife that size I would like the blade all plain or all serrated, blade to short for an effective "combo" for me. Good value as you pointed out and always a big plus!
LateBoyScout, if you like the Byrd Meadowlark 2 and the CRKT Pazoda, if you haven't already you should give the SOG SogZilla's a try. I have a Ti-Ni SogZilla LG and absolutely loved it, it actually last longer than my Delica did!
My EDC for almost 2 years now
on my byrd knives when i moved the clip to the pivot for tip down carry the screws prevent the blades from coming out smoothly. could maybe file down the screws. but i shouldnt have to. do actual spyderco knives have that problem or is it just the byrd knives. could you try it with one of your byrds. maybe they fixed it with the 2 models. the different holes are not that different to me.
I have the G-10 version of this knife. It is an excellent EDC knife.
I think the Byrd line is excellent value for money:) Great review man.
Any suggestions on a good place to pick up either the c.c.2 or this one?
Good vid. I don't know much about knives. I thought Buck knifes were the top line stuff till i started watching a few ytube vids..lol... Got a question from a knife rookie. How do you sharpen the serrated part of the blade? Or do they never need sharpening?
Thanks for the video i have the meadowlark 1 in stainless handles and thats too heavy i might like that one :)
i love the cara cara, but that meadowlark is chisel ground, they really need to change that, pain in the butt to sharpen, at least for me anyway, great review, love the intro very cool.
I too prefer the ergos of the meadowlark 2 and cara cara 2 over the delica and endura. Seems that with the spyderco version they waste space that the byrd line makes use of. Still love spyderco though.
is that a chisel ground? or asymmetrical or is it symetrical grind???????? really important
can you close it with one hand?
The titanium Meadowlark and Cara Cara will soon hit the market.I think the estimate Price somewhere below 100$ will be to much for secondary brand...
A deep carry clip available?
I prefer the ergo's of the cara cara and the meadowlark over the delica and endura due to the upper finger troil.
Ganzo F759m is another option if you want an alternative for..Delica...
I prefer the delica, but also the cara cara over the endura. Great blades
olmmedic ,
say where can i see new byrd knives? there not really in the spyderco site
You can see in spydercos site, looking for byrd line
@TheLateBoyScout lol maybe, great review
Just ordered one thanks to you. eBay. $21.20 shipped. I love breaking in knives. I buy $1 knives at Walmart just to flick for a few days and give away. lol
Honestly, if the Byrd knives were constructed better, I would buy them over Spydercos because I don't mind a knife having 8Cr13Mov blade steel because I know how to sharpen a blade, VG-10 is a good steel yes, but I can live without it.
I had a Meadowlark 2 and the blade was actually sharper than a Delica I had before, the only problem I had with the M2 was the grip construction, the body of the knife just felt poorly designed and fragile. Good blade, strong lock, bad everything else.
I just bought one for 11 from a auction on ebay.
And i cant open the skrevs
and did I say only 22$ big bucks sweet
Nice knife, but in a completly different league as the Delica. Its like a VW compared to a Porsche.
stefan feigenbaum ..if the VW went as fast as a Porsche and looked just like a Porsche..
My broke on the lockig mekanism
If you just EDC a knife, get the Meadowlark 2 G10. It has better handle material (G10>FRN) and if you're only EDCing it and don't need to split a log the 8CR12MOV Blade is good enough. Plus its heck of a lot cheaper.
I gotta say this you sound like nutnfancy
nutnfancy? I thought I clicked on a TheLateBoyScout video...
@diediedie999 TLBS does it better tho
Hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm...........
