This is my take on the popular and classic Delica series of folding knives from excellent knife-maker, Spyderco. The Delica 4 in VG-10 steel is an outstanding everyday carry pocket knife that isn't surpassed by many - if any others.

Just ordered a delica 4 instead of a paramilitary 2 in favor of waiting to have more money before ordering the PM2, was watching this to make myself feel better about NOT having the PM2, and he pulls one out 2 minutes in......-cries-.

They're amazing. I picked one up at a gun show and the next aisle over they had a Damascus Delica.. I almost thought about trying to trade up but just decided to stay with my choice. I'll get a Damascus Delica eventually, but I LOVE that PM2!!

I believe the damascus part means its layered.. its vg-10 with some carbon steel, I forget which one though. Yea it's gorgeous but I don't own it for the same reason lol.. I fully agree, someday I'll prolly pick it up, but not anytime soon

Great review. Been carrying one at work (only time I can seeing that here in Australia, it's illegal to carry knives other than for work purposes) and it performs like a dream! Been stropping it with my leather strop to maintain it's edge and it's put a razor hair popping reflective edge on it! Awesome. It's FREAKYILY sharp now considering how sharp it was out of box!

Great review and very nice choice of options. I have several Delicas and love them a lot, but I must say the back lock tends to attract dirt and eventually does not lock as secure over time. So there's a little more maintenance needed than say a liner lock.

Thanks for the review and all your others. I just got the Delica 4 for my sister. Kinda wish I bought one for myself, but I just got a KA BAR USMC which is must for all knife collectors, who actually use their knives.

Picked up a Delica4 off the forums, the one classical Spyderco I've not owned yet. In a word it is utilitarian. Light as a feather, sharp, thin and ergonomic. No frills (except for the nice colours of the FRN), just a really well thought through knife.
Good video Scout, keep up the good effort.

I use to have a paramilitary 2 the steel was ATS55.
I purchased it at the P.X. at Ft. McClellan. After i finished my 8 years i gave it to my father.
He willed it back to me when he passed, damn thing about it is it sprouted legs.
I loved that Knife for more reasons than you can imagine.

First 3 Spydercos and I am hooked. Persistence, Endura and Delica in that order. All can be rotated as an EDC and are different enough to carry for specific purposes. The quality and price, can't beat it.

This is one the knives that got me into knives. I ordered this knife and a Kershaw blur at the same time, I love them both, but it started another passion that I cannot really afford! My most recent Spyderco is the Chokwe. It's a funky looking knife but I love it.

My gosh, that Spyderco Persistence is so freaking gorgeous. Not a fan of black blades but the blue compliments the black so well. The Delica was going to be my next Spyderco knife after the Tenacious but I have changed my mind.

  • @mindspinn311

Great review!!! Subscribed. I like how you point out the proper ergonomic designs, one of my favorite traits in Spyderco, along with use of steels with proper heat treat and edge geometry. The Delica is a classic, and the FFG version of it and the Endura unfortunately took Spyderco for too long to produce. That said, I'm very glad to own them now. Forget tactical, forget titanium and carbon fiber, forget Axis locks and integral locks, this simple lock back is one of the best designed knives as an EDC tool I've ever used. I wish they would do a Golden CO special edition (I guess that's the Native maybe?) just for kicks, not that the Seki knives aren't all superb quality already.

  • @ding174
    @ding174 9 лет назад

Spyderco is a very innovative company. And very smart. They invented an original design which has worked so well that they never needed to re invent it. They just continually improve it. And the older models don't lose their value but become collectors items.

Good video. The knife comparison, with steel, and price, list made this by far the best Delica/Spyderco video I've watched. Thank you.
I've been stryggling to choose between the Tenacious, which looks beautiful, and the Delica, which is far more practical. But I think I've settled for the Delica.

  • @TheStig000

The Spydercos that have a number after the name are especially good, because they've gone through revisions. That's why the Delica 4 is SUCH a good knife.

Great review, man. I just came to see footage of this beauty before I can have one in my hands :) It's interesting, though how similar our knife tastes are because I will be purchasing a brown Delica today, I owned and adored a blue Persistence before it was unfortunately lost (may have fallen into the trash unnoticed), I also own a Skyline (the standard boring color though), and I have a Mini Griptilian. I also have plans of owning a Leek in the future. I just thought it was interesting that you pulled out 3 of the 6 knives I own as well as 2 that I'll be getting soon. Anyway, awesome video and have a nice day!

Scout I wanted to bring up some points: The Delica 4 is an awesome knife. If used sanely and not abused. Some of the hard use tests posted for this knife are ridiculous. Look my old Snap It has an aus 8 blade that is .15" thick that means I can bang that thing with a hammer and stab propane tanks(empty) with it. The Delica not so much it is about .09" thick. That being said 90 percent of your knife chores will be just fine with this excellent knife. Get a PM 2 if you want to play super hard with your folder.

Delica 4. Does everything anyone should want to do with a pocket knife. Really. Is light and thin enough to let us forget we're carrying it. You can get it with a serrated edge (....though sadly that would cost you $20 more in Canada)...is the added cutting power of a serrated edge worth $20 CAD?). Important for EDC (though honestly since most pocket knives are around 5-5oz max...you woudn't feel the weight of thos elarge knives either...they just take more room in a pocket. Though "the lighter the better...|. :)
Good knife for some one who isn't an "enthusiast" and just wants one knife. To do "whatever".
For $30 CAD more the Para 3 LW.

I am really going to cop it here by going against the grain, but I just will never understand what all that extra steel is about on most Spydercos. The blade sticks out in most cases way beyond the frame/handle. I get the choil factor when it is open but closed...there is just so much blade exposed...along with a nice big hole that can catch on things and open up when least expected. I've had it happen so don't all attack me at once. I love the fit and finish and finesse and the basic design...but that one fact will always make me steer clear. Waiting for the swords to come out now...

I really enjoyed the design and size of it as well as most other things about it. The only problem that I noticed with it is the one I had did have a little bit of up and down blade play. +Jimmy Howe I've got the Para2, two Endura's (ZDP-189 + HAP40/SUS419 Sprint Run) and one Delica. I carry my Delica all the time because it's more useful in almost every way. My Endura's are really too big unless you have a specific task in mind and the Para2 is more of a 'Trophy' blade. In my opinion, you'll get more use out of the little, unobtrusive Delica than the flashy 'look at me' PM2. Stick with the standard VG10 steel as well, the ZDP is a bastard to sharpen..!

Mini Grip is the best out of those choices, in my opinion. Locking mechanism is better. Steel is about the same as the Delica 4 and to me made in Japan is about the same as Made in U.S.A. I will usually try to buy American-made just to support American manufacturing, and the economy. Knives made in Japan are just as good quality wise.

I've never heard anything bad about Spyderco's Japanese or Taiwanese made knives, they actually have better fit and finish than the blades made in Golden, CO. You are just someone who automatically assumes American made=better. Not always.

Not really.. For around 15$ more you're getting a better blade, better lock, and usa made... That being said I went with the delica over the mini grip because of the color choices and the FFG, which is helpful for my intended uses. I've found Benchmades 154cm to hold a useable edge for far longer than vg10. Another thing to consider though if you're buying a Benchmade , is to be prepared to receive a knife with a very obtuse angle..like 45-50 inclusive. Never a problem with spydies.

I've got the PM2 and Tenacious, and I truly think the Delica 4 is junk compared to them. I love the steal and the size, thats the hard part. But its built like a $10 junk store knife otherwise. Doesn't lock up tight, clip wiggles, blade wiggles, main screw that holds the blade never holds and only way it will is with lock tight, to get it to lock up tight, that screw has to be so tight that its impossible to open. I think spyderco used their big name on this to push out an overpriced knife.

i wish it was all on point, because i love the blade shape, the steal, and size, but its built like a piece of Sh*t.
