Very close the the Endura G10 but made overseas and a bit less fit and finish./////////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 10 out of 10 (make a pure black PE version)
Went thru my expensive knife faze. Went thru my huge folder knife faze. Now (thanks to the sh!ty economy) I'm loving the crazy lack of difference between the cara cara and the (many Spiderco models) endura. Mr. Lt. Col. Nutinfancy, you are the man. Thanks so much for the heartfelt channel. Your no b.s. and no compromises approach to the multiple industries you review, is respected by many and enjoyed by more and more.
Couldn't agree more!!!! I have 3 Cara Caras and 4 enduras. I LOVE these knives. Thanks for all the time you spend doing these reviews Nutn. My war chest of guns, ammo, knives, etc. is full of gear you've reviewed and recommended. God Bless.
I bought this knife about a week before I saw this video. Nutnfancy is dead on! This might be my favorite all time. Right out of the box I was cutting inch thick steaks on the grill. It was so effortless I almost burned my hand. Those of you looking for super value, I found this on blade authority priced at $20 for FRN handles, $30 for G10.
I want to sincerely thank you Nutnfancy! I have been watching your videos for years now and I have learned a lot about knives and guns, all thanks to you. I was in a outdoors shop about a week ago looking at some knives and i was asking questions that the man behind the counter didn't know the answers to. I actually ended up giving him your youtube channel and told him that if he was really interested in learning more he should check you out. went back today and he thanked me for referring you!
So I took Nutn's advice and picked one up. EDC'd for a year now and it's performed very well. Only issue was the screws on the clip kept backing out but nothing a little Loctite couldn't remedy. Terrific knife that I expect to provide years of reliable service.
I absolutely love it when you roll in competitively priced options to the knifes that you review. It gets my mind cranking on what else I need to buy =)
I really appreciate Spyderco for making this cheaper line of Byrd knives. I usually save up for the higher end knives for myself but these Byrd knives are great high value gift knives. I like to buy them for friends or father/brother-in-laws who like knives but don't have the same affinity for knives that I do. Most of them wouldn't know the difference between a Byrd Carra Carra 2 and an Endura 4. Spyderco just gives us so many great options, more than any other knife maker out there!
Great reviews, big fan! You hit the nail on the head for each product's specs/ hits & misses. I've been digging my CC2 G10 for quite a while. Great ergos (fwd or rev), light, maneuverable & useable (EDC/CQC).
@beholderlt Thanks for hanging out that long my friend, I am honored that you still find it interesting. I have lots more to come and I don't even feel I've done my best work yet. But these reviews are the foundation and I don't ever see them going away. Thanks again!
You know, this channel makes me proud. Proud to be a likeminded survivalist who takes the time to research and spread the wealth of knowledge on things that may very well save your life in a dire-no compromise situation. Nutnfancy, you kick ass man, as well as everyone in this community.
Byrds are such great knives...i have only one problem with them:one day you will put out your Byrd knife, and the guy next to you will take out his Spyderco. The look on his face will haunt you for monts :)
If you tie a zip tie through the opening hole and cut off all the extra tail that will snag on your pocket and pocket deploy. It's a great mod. Also, I bought the FRN version of this knife for $20 on Amazon
I loved every single one of my byrd knives, unfourtunately other people loved them more and they would disappear on me. I agree with your review 100%. It's like a leatherman
I have a Meadowlark G10 as one of my daily carry knives, and it is outstanding. For the money, it is hard to beat. Your review is right on, and fantastic. Keep up the good work, nutn'.
Got mine this last week. Then stumbled onto this review. Seems I made a wise choice. I teamed it up with a Leatherman Rebar for my EDC & so far, so good. I'm fairly new to the knife world. I've just always used the blade on the Leathermans I've been carrying the last 20+ years when something needed cutting. But I am enjoying this Cara Cara 2.
Wow, TNP vids have been coming in bunches lately! LOVE IT! Excellent vid on a cool blade Nutn! I personally don't dig the deployment hole on the Byrds, but other than that it looks cool. For competitive options, don't forget the Spyderco Tenacious, another awesome blade for the same price point. I sure as hell love mine! Rock on man and keep the awesome videos coming!
I'm a sucker for a good, budget knife. I've carried the Cara Cara 2 SS plain edge and the Meadowlark 2 FRN plain edge for a couple of years now and I have no issues with either of them. They take and hold an edge like champs and they're super easy to grip and use. I even find both sizes to be great for EDC, but I'm 6'4" tall and quite large framed.
Great review, brother! This knife looks like a good choice for me as a lefty, something to thump on and not worry. You did a great job on this review, thanks for featuring this knife.
I have the Carra Carra 2, in both G-10 and FRN. The FRN handle version now is comparable to the FRN handled Endura 4 FFG, traction is amazing. For the money, they are just outstanding!
Thanks nutnfancy..i fell in love with the kershaw tremor based on this video and ordered one tonight for 21.99 free shipping from amazon, it was just more my style and weight..great knife review once again!
Bang-for-buck, these are about the most awesome all-around blades. I've had 6 of them now, 4 given away as gifts as they were so popular. Great EDC when you're using and EDC constantly all day and very popular with a number hunters / gameskeepers; the lower gimping really is useful. Given the Byrd's (UK) work out equivalent in price here to a lot of the Spyderco's do in US the premium on the Spyderco's here make the Byrd's fantastic utilitarian, every day value for money. That said, love the Spyderco's, have the endura , delica, dragonfly, and a couple of others.
Great review. I have been eyeballing this line of knives for a while now. I think I will have to pull the trigger now. Thanks for the video. Keep up the good work.
For the money the FRN Byrd knives are great for the money, very similar to Endura/delica. I am not a knife snob and I have a Cara Cara 2 FRN and it has held up well over the years...and if I do lose it, I am not out a bunch of $$$
I have The Endura 4 and the Cara Cara 2. Gotta admit- The Cara is preferred. Love the choil on the bottom of the blade. Very excellent for detail work. I REALLY wish my Endura had that option. :)
The only advantage of the Zytel Cara Cara is the weight - it's amazingly light which makes it excellent for EDC. The new version is superior in everything else. I'm thinking of buying a second one :)
I saw a video somewhere where someone cut/modified the deployment hole to be a wave mechanism. Sweet idea! Would like to see more mods like that. Lol, I always thought the deployment hole was a nostril on a beak!
Great review Nutnfancy. I totally agree with you about the relief edge on the CaraCara2! Mine also has a nice wide relief edge that holds the edge really well! :D
+Bob Sundquist Hello, I have carried the Byrd Cara Cara 2 for almost 2 years. Gave as a present one to a friend for his birthday also. But I am always afraid this thing is gonna close on my fingers if used for protection. Gonna try something with Triad lock from Cold Steel.
I love this knife from the looks of it. I just think to the average knife guy, they might think this is just a fake spyderco lol. (Yes, i know this is a sub-company of true spyderco) i dont understand why Spyderco cant just make this for $20. The only thing i dont like about this knife is the hole in it. I wish it was a circle
Just ordered the FRN handle $18!! (Because of this review of course) Such a steal for this blade, but we'll see if I need to send it back for the G10. As long as QC keeps the FRN well made I have no complaints, the delica and endura FRN is great and knocks down the cost a bunch. We'll see at this price point if they can still keep it quality
The reason the bevel on the Cara2 is wider is because the blade stays thicker towards the edge. The FFG isn't as deep as in the Endura. So you don't really end up with a finer edge.
Nutn, cool reference in regards to the Porsche Cayman R and 911 S. Porsche has been very careful to not allow the Cayman to overshadow the 911, however as we are seeing the R is very much closing in on that gap with its lower weight. Thing is that the Cayman is mid engine design and the 911 is rear engine. The mid engine is inherently a better design and handles better, if the Cayman was given the power of the 911 it would easily outpace its bigger brother no questions asked. Great review.
Just about all of these Byrd knives are up there at the top where quality vs. budget is concerned. The only problem I have with them, is that a lot of times, you really have to spend time cleaning them right out of the box. The assembly area where these things are made must be filthy. I had to all but completely disassemble my Meadowlark to get out the black residue that covered the liners, and was in between the pivot. It sounded like there was sand in there it was so dirty. But once clean, it's a great blade for just a little bit of money.
I am late to the party as usual but thought I could weigh in... The FRN model of the Cara Cara 2 has been swapped from the feathers pattern to a dual directional traction that is pretty comfortable and functional.. I grabbed that model over the G10 model simply for cost savings to determine if I liked the form factor... I am happy enough to carry it periodically but with the large stable of options I have aquired I cant say its a daily carry... Great for throwing in the car to have just in case.
also adding to my previous statement, the blade on mine is not a fast deploying blade at all. It is wearing in a bit and I do notice it getting a bit smoother, but again, I trust what Nutn says and this one kinda fell short... I am glad, though, that I got a decent quality working blade for so cheap!
For affordable tactical perfection, I suggest a Spyderco Resilience with a zip tie modification for pocket snag/wave opening (you'll need a bigger ziptie than the normal ones to move the large 4.25" blade). It is the best, cheap tactical knife (with ziptie mod) i.m.o . Has excellent jimping, classic Spydie Hole, nice G-10 scales, large handle, and decent steel (8Cr13MoV) for around $40.00. But I do believe Spyderco should make a 4" knife between the Tenacious and Resilience lineup, though.
My Zytel Cara Cara partial serration with the feather pattern handle scales is my EDC. Love the length and weight. Perfect lock. I'm not too happy with the steel. I almost have to sharpen after every use. As soon as I wear it to a nub I will switch to my Zytel Cara Cara plain edge with the Endura style handle scales that I prefer. Great price. I love my Endura full serration and Tenacious plain edge too much to use. lol. ( I'm hard on knifes) My spydercos are my favorites of my 100+ knives.
Great review... Now for the much anticipated Spyderco Paramilitary 2 review! When can we expect to see this beautiful knife grace your reviewing table?
If you need fast opening in a knife the tenacious might be a better choice. If you dont mind a slower deployment and like a solid lock on the back the Cara Cara 2 in G10 is very nice.
Great review. Like your comparison of these 2 knives to the Porsche Cayman and Carrera. I have bought several folders based on your recommendations and the purchases have been spot on so far. :) I guess I will be getting a cara cara2 soon. I wonder how the cara cara2 will measure up to the Tenacious.
@nutnfancy rad review and rad knife but in these tough times i feel i need to buy american to help my brothers and sisters across the country just saying .....THIS IS NOT A GRIPE !! thank you for all of ur reviews !! ..... keep on keepin on bro !!!!!
just purchased this knife. awesome review, awesome value. now that i know what spyderco is all about i might have to jump up to a paramilitary! great stepping stone into the brand.
ive had my cara cara 2 for a while now and i like the frn version better. a bit lighter and great traction. only thing i noticed was a little side to side play with the blade lock up even after tightening it. not super sharp out of the box but i touched it up and its just fine. its so light that right now its my edc blade of choice.
I laughed so hard on this one, nice burp bro! Finally saw what you mean by 'wizard of oz issues', thanks for that. Hey is that Buck 'Bos heat treated'? I thought I saw the litthe flame engraved on it, what a cool blade. Thanks for another great review, I'm not buying this one though, I left the credit card under the mattress.
I have a byrd cara cara 2 with a frn handle and I like it but the clip has a lot of movement right out of the box(side to side). Other than that its seems pretty solid. Razor sharp out of the box although the grind is a a lot off on one side but that's no biggie. Will fix that once its warrants sharpening. For 20 bucks thou its a solid blade.
@fuzzylumps1 Bang for buck I would highly agree. The C6 Corvette Z06 is the performance bargain of sports cars, nearly a super car when you analyze the numbers. Especially when you can find a nice pre owned 2006 Z06 for under $45,000 dollars. You get a dry sump, 7.0 Liter engine with titanium connecting rods, push rod and valves, carbon fiber front fenders, frankly the list goes on and on all developed from the racetrack to the car. That is insane for 45,000 dollars!
Got the Cara Cara 2 FRN this morning. (Amazon Prime is Fast). This is a nice knife. It's already found a home in my pocket. It's listed at 5.6 oz. But it feels lighter than that.. My fish scale shows just over 3.5 oz.. That's got to be wrong. It 'feels' light and feels right. I'm pretty sure this is going to be my EDC starting today.
I've got the original Byrd cara cara in frn. Think I'll probably get the cara cara 2. Seems to be just an improvement on the already great value cara cara.
Sweet price for the cara cara2 . i bought the resilience ,and the knife has side to side and up and down movment. but for the price , the knife is way worth it.
My favorite knife of all time was an Endura 4 Wave. Then I lost it. I just can't bring myself to spring another $80 when $20-30 knives do nearly as well... :/
Went thru my expensive knife faze. Went thru my huge folder knife faze. Because of your interview with the founder of SOG you got me looking at knife's as a hobby and I am sure learning a lot from you. Thank you.

+radu ardeleanu that's why you backup carry a spyderco for the less dirty jobs.
just bought this blade. beautiful weight and perfectly balanced. love it great review nutn.
I love this knife. Tenascious quality with the endurance look. I've had mine for about 3 months and it rocks!
If you tie a zip tie through the opening hole and cut off all the extra tail that will snag on your pocket and pocket deploy. It's a great mod. Also, I bought the FRN version of this knife for $20 on Amazon

You will love it, mine came nice and sharp right out of the box. The thin tip is perfect for slicing open boxes or sealed bags.
i can't believe that i've been around with your project for about 3 years. time passes quickly when you're having fun!
@ThePredator1973 Thank you Predator...I think you'll like this one for the money. This is a very capable blade.
I really wish they'd do the 50/50 choil on the Endura. That, cover the tang and add a loop over wire clip for total perfection.
@nwtipton Mid burp I guess...just left it in for kicks, kinda' embarrassing but you get the real me. Thanks for commenting.
" great penetration on the tip.." Really tried hard not to laugh at that particular choice of words..
Just picked one up yesterday. Thanks, for the review, Nut'n, always helpful in the buying process.
Always the best knife reviews ... I don't even bother trying for the most part anymore, lol.
Great review, brother! This knife looks like a good choice for me as a lefty, something to thump on and not worry. You did a great job on this review, thanks for featuring this knife.
Awesome review Nutnfancy!!! Thanks a lot for all your hard work!!! I must buy one of those Cara Caras.
I have the Carra Carra 2, in both G-10 and FRN. The FRN handle version now is comparable to the FRN handled Endura 4 FFG, traction is amazing.

Great review. I have been eyeballing this line of knives for a while now. I think I will have to pull the trigger now. Thanks for the video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot for explaining the Byrd/Spyderco branding difference!
I just ordered mine, got it from amazon for $19.82!
Great review like always!
Thanks!
Just got the frn version. Was super gritty, so I Ballistolled it up and opens almost as smooth as the Endura. Great value knife. Love Spyderco!
Seems like the byrde line is stepping it up. For that price I might just need to own that. Thanks for the review Fancy!
I recommend this knife highly for its value...dealer cost is 15.45 plus shipping...that is crazy value. thanks for another great value.
@customh I'm not as stoked on the Zytel Cara Cara (version 1), reviewed a long time ago. I sold mine. The G10 and its FFG is mo' better.
Nice!!
Good price too for an EDC blade!
Thanks for all your hard work.
I have carried a caracara for years. I always carry 2 knives on me. A SAK for utility and the caracara for protection.
Gop Stop if you end up not liking the cold steels. Try the spyderco resilience. Good knife
+MrNumberone1608 thank you man :)
Thanks Nutn! I was looking for another knife and I found this at discount on EBay. I checked your channel first to see if there was a review.
@ThePumpkinthecat Not really since he covers it in depth, but you're always invited to make your own, shorter videos. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)
@nls8520 That was some outstanding commentary on the Cayman/Carerra...much enjoyed and thanks!
I bought a black Endura 4 pocket clip for my Cara Cara 2 , it fits perfect and looks great .
I don't understand why the Byrd has a choil and the Endura does not.
Gonna get one .. Love the choil jimping!!
The reason the bevel on the Cara2 is wider is because the blade stays thicker towards the edge. The FFG isn't as deep as in the Endura. So you don't really end up with a finer edge.
Nutn, cool reference in regards to the Porsche Cayman R and 911 S. The mid engine is inherently a better design and handles better, if the Cayman was given the power of the 911 it would easily outpace its bigger brother no questions asked. Great review.
@nutnfancy Thank you Nutn, always enjoy your insight on these videos. I can tell you appreciate nice cars as do I, really a great comparison.
Just about all of these Byrd knives are up there at the top where quality vs. budget is concerned. Hey man watched your vid a wile back my wife hooked me up with this new blade and I love it 100% with you 10 out of 10
I am late to the party as usual but thought I could weigh in...

I am glad, though, that I got a decent quality working blade for so cheap!
I got a cara cara 2 g10 a couple weeks ago. With zip tie mod its a great tactical knife. I love it.
awesome! another budget knife review! it's been a while.
Love the high value gear and knife reviews!
Loved the car (Porsche) references! keep those comin!
Ryan wan the regular handles are fiber glass reinforced nylon with bidirectional texturing there is a pretty big difference
If you need fast opening in a knife the tenacious might be a better choice. If you dont mind a slower deployment and like a solid lock on the back the Cara Cara 2 in G10 is very nice.
That is for FRN, the G10 is $29.39, which is still awesome for what you get
.
Great review. Like your comparison of these 2 knives to the Porsche Cayman and Carrera. I have bought several folders based on your recommendations and the purchases have been spot on so far. :)
I guess I will be getting a cara cara2 soon. I wonder how the cara cara2 will measure up to the Tenacious.
I've got most of the Byrd models (non G10) and (non metal lined) like them very much.
@WinThePennant You got it! Will work on that for you.
@nutnfancy rad review and rad knife but in these tough times i feel i need to buy american to help my brothers and sisters across the country just saying .....THIS IS NOT A GRIPE !! thank you for all of ur reviews !! ..... keep on keepin on bro !!!!!
Love the Endura...hope there is an Endura 5 soon.
I EDC a Endura ZDP, couldn't be happier. I do carry a Ladybug in H1 for cutting in front of nervous people.
just purchased this knife. awesome review, awesome value. now that i know what spyderco is all about i might have to jump up to a paramilitary! great stepping stone into the brand.
Byrd Wings if it is a liner lock, the serrated blade is awesome cutting rope and tree branches
Thanks nutnfancy for another great vid.
@matthias66 Yep, reviewed the Resilience and love it. Great blade. It's another Hall of Famer here.
It's actually a Pacific Salt. Basicly just the Endura with H1 steel instead of VG-10.
ive had my cara cara 2 for a while now and i like the frn version better. a bit lighter and great traction. only thing i noticed was a little side to side play with the blade lock up even after tightening it. not super sharp out of the box but i touched it up and its just fine. its so light that right now its my edc blade of choice.
I like the table top reviews.
If the blade was coated black it would be a huge win for me.
I'm pretty sure this is going to be my EDC starting today.
i think ill check it out... thanks nutnfancy, you make every knife sound darn good.. i need to spend more lol
No dude... You rock!!! Great vid... Not big on the cheap blade, but hey we all can't afford the nice ones. Love T.N.P
Just ordered the Meadowlark 2 plain edge for 20$.. cant wait until it arrives
Where would one buy a FRN scales for this knife? Not talking about buying the FRN verion, just scales.
I've got the original Byrd cara cara in frn. Think I'll probably get the cara cara 2. Seems to be just an improvement on the already great value cara cara.
I would because the Cara Cara feels way better in my hand, I get the jimping, and you can get the Cara Cara in G10.
