I've been using this knife for about a year and have been very impressed with the quality of its construction. Thought you did a very clear and concise review of it. You were very well prepared, I appreciate that. Thank you.
Poor David Boye. I am sure he thought the indent was a good idea.... I will say that you have some of the best knife reviews on RUclips. Very clear, concise and you explain everything extremely well. It always amazes me that you speak English so well when it is not your native language....you speak English better than most of my fellow Americans.
Spyderco are awesome! I originally thought they were offering a Cara Cara 2 G-10 as the prize and they just contacted me and said I could have one instead of the Meadowlark 2 G-10! Happy with that!
This was a very comprehensive review with a lot of excellent observations! For further refreshment, the normal pretentiousness found in many knife reviews is not found here! I think this is the type of knife review that a knife person wants to see. Thank you!
the meadowlark in frn is perfect for a smaller edc knife. i love the old blade shape on the first gen's. i like how byrd makes their g10 versions. with the metal back. makes them really solid folders. nice and strong.
Excellent review and comparisons. I just won the Byrd Meadowlark 2 G10 in Spyderco's Byrd Week Trivia Competition and this was the only review of that particular model I could find. Will be nice to have a cheaper EDC blade since trading my Tenacious and the 3 Bug Line knives.
A big advantage with these kind of knives is that they are very easy to sharp, even for beginners (like you mentioned)...Wish Spyderco brought back the 440 etc... "the steel arms race" knife manufacturers have nowadays is not all positive...
@26point2madness Thank you for your very kind words! - Someone on bladeforums once wrote that the Boye dent is a solution to a problem that didn't exist. I tend to agree.
i own a Byrd Cara Cara and it was rock solid too but i found if you grip the handle high(closer to the blade)with a little practice you can get it to flick open. when you get the technique down,your speed of deployment on all other knives is alot faster.i hope that helps you out.
100% agree, prefer Meadowlark2 g10 for the reasons given. After much searching it is my conclusion that the design of the Meadowlark 2 might be the best in the world for a small, inexpensive, versatile EDC blade. (RAT 2 honorable mention) Would also happily pay $10 more if it bought the CTS-BD1 steel as well as the better build quality of the Crow/Raven line.
@stschmalhaus I like that the Byrd is a backlock for which I have a slight preference over a liner lock. On the other hand, I like the "feel" of the byrdhole less than the simple round spyderhole.
In my small-ish collection (compared to yours) I have the Cara Cara, the Meadowlark and the Robin. Call it curiosity, I suppose. Having owned them for about a year now, I've found them to be very solid performers. If you can get over the "budget model" thing, I believe you'll find these knives to be fine stand ins. Nice review as always, my friend.
Best review I have seen and heard ever IMO ! Thank you for the detailed review. Of course now I am confused :) Meadowlark 2 in FRN or Delica 4 or this Meadowlark 2 in G10 ? ? ? I'm sure I'll end up getting 2 of the 3 mentioned one being a Delica 4 down the line.
@alfwok At the end of the video I say that this knife will probably never win a design prize. That's a more diplomatic way of saying that it is not an overly elegant knife. ;-)
@MrOnion2001 Thank you! - Ad 1: Since I get this question almost every day (RUclips, schmalhaus[dot]com, Messerforum, Tacticalforum etc.) I set up an FAQ page on my blog (schmalhaus[dot]com). Ad 2: I'm waiting for my Squeak to arrive. Once I have it I will be able to tell you more about this knife.
@michaelmikelmicc Tough decision. My gutt feeling says go for the Persistence because it is a "real" Spyderco. But in the end it all boils down to personal taste.
the unfortunate case with mine is that the pivot screw can not be adjusted, i disassembled the whole knife, cleaned it out and put it back together. no matter how much i loosen the pivot screw, deployment is still rock tight, so i can't flick it open. that sucks! is this the same case with your knife?
@MrDagon007 You always want me to choose between my knives. That's the worst kind of torture you can do to a knife collector. And this from a fellow knife collector! ;-) I guess I like the wide blade and handle of the Persistence more.
I've been trying to decide between the Persistence and the Meadolark 2, which are featured at the same price on a website for which I've received a gift card. Thank you very much for making this video; it was very informative. The Persistence normally being more expensive (possibly better?), can I ask what would be your personal recommendation between the two? I'd really like the liner lock for one-handed closing but quality/durability should come first. Thanks.
In my opinion there's no quality difference between the Tenacious family and the Byrd knives. They are probably made in the same factory. It's your decision which logo and which shape of the opening hole you prefer.
I know byrd is a brand my question is Byrd has 8cr13mov steel and Spyderco tenacious or persistance has 8cr13mov too.They have g10 handles.The difference is lock mechanism.Now which one is looking like better quality ?
nice knife! although I don't like the Byrd knife hole though, just from the looks, maybe because it is just different. ;-) . Did you hear of the Spyderco Squeak?
Hallo Stefan, klasse review!
"If you haven't heard of the David Boyde dent it doesn't matter" Hahahaha! Good review. Are knife laws governed by the EU, Or do countries have autonomy in those situations?
Keine gute Idee! - Ich besitze das Spyderco Resilience, was etwa genauso groß ist was das Cara Cara, benutze es aber nur in meinen eigenen vier Wänden, um z. B. goße Kartons in handliche Stücke Altpapier zu zerlegen.

I watch a lot of knife reviews. However, yours stand out among the very best. Thanks for this excellent review.
After seeing your review I piced it up on amazon. Thank you.

Very informative review! I decided to get one after viewing it. Thanks for posting!
Spyderco can make a great knife at any price point!! I have the Byrd Robin and have used it many times. Great review Stefan. Keep up the great work.
Just got the the g-10 was really impressed. For the price point. Thanks for the review and heads up on the knife.
Very good review,the Meadowlark 2 looks like a great blade maybe I'll give one a shot when I get some cash.
@26point2madness Thank you for your very kind words! - Someone on bladeforums once wrote that the Boye dent is a solution to a problem that didn't exist. I tend to agree.
Great review again, Stefan! I really look forward to videos from you!
This knife is nice looking!

I think a more practical reason to chose a Byrd over an Enlan, Bee or Sanrenmu is the excellent customer service and warranty Spyderco provides.
Great in depth review again. I have yet to get my first Byrd knife. Maybe this Meadowlark is gonna be it.
Great review! Thank you.
Thanks for a very good review.Actualy i prefer the Meadowlark over the Delica because of the jimped choil,the G10 handels and,of course,the price :)

I just got this blade for Christmas. Yea not as sharp as my Klein 44050, but still will get the job done.
Really nice review!
nice blade keep on collecting them ;)
@stschmalhaus I like that the Byrd is a backlock for which I have a slight preference over a liner lock. On the other hand, I like the "feel" of the byrdhole less than the simple round spyderhole.

@shadymattuk Wow! That's great!
i like kershaw knives, i own 1 byrd knife and it came with a brown spot on the blade
@AtPeacePiece The European countries are autonomous in this area. But that may be subject to change in the future.
I like the choil on the meadow lark where as the delica had none

very in depth review! subscribed
Great review! Just picked up mine!
@PaiRaiUno Sorry to hear that. No, I haven't had any issues so far.
@wolfbrother2501 Thanks for watching!
@alfwok At the end of the video I say that this knife will probably never win a design prize. That's a more diplomatic way of saying that it is not an overly elegant knife. ;-)
@jhynesyahoo Thanks for watching!
Your question doesn't make sense. Byrd is a brand or product line, the Persistence is a particular knife model.
@PavlovSandor Thanks for watching, my friend!
@sabr686 Thank you! - Yes, they are great alternatives to the more expensive Endura, Delica and Dragonfly.
@TheBoodle23 Yeah, same problem here in Germany.
@SharpAirsoft Thank you!
nice review, i will getting an opinel knife :)
@michaelmikelmicc Tough decision. My gutt feeling says go for the Persistence because it is a "real" Spyderco. But in the end it all boils down to personal taste.
@stschmalhaus great! is there an unboxing video coming our way? :-)
@1IdeaAhead Both are technically ok, yet G10 typically feels better in the hand. FRN feels like cheap plastic, even if it is perfectly sufficient.
@PaiRaiUno add some oil to the pivots. It could just be new.
the unfortunate case with mine is that the pivot screw can not be adjusted, i disassembled the whole knife, cleaned it out and put it back together. no matter how much i loosen the pivot screw, deployment is still rock tight, so i can't flick it open. that sucks!
is this the same case with your knife?
@aebbelwoy Thank you!

@chainheart3 Good choice!

@1IdeaAhead MrDagon007 said it all. I have nothing to add.
The pocket clip is the same as the delica ??
Can I buy a DepthcarryClip for delica and put on my Meadowlark ??
nice knife! although I don't like the Byrd knife hole though, just from the looks, maybe because it is just different. ;-) . Did you hear of the Spyderco Squeak?
Good overview !
What would you choose between Meadowlark and Persistence?
@fredde90210 I couldn't agree more.
@Schmidt54 My Squeak should arrive any day.
@vovavoyevodin Did you contact Spyderco's customer service?
@quickid150 Did you contact Spyderco's customer service?

are you left handed because i saw your clip placement on your endura 4 oh by the way i'm left handed

@evilman210
i did everything...nothing worked.

A nice knife, but it locks and I live in the UK.
