Terraria's corruption relies on the limited size worlds and 2d dimension, Imagine trying to remove all the corruption in a infinite world, It would never end!
@@Throarbin Many minecraft mods do this, to varying levels of success. Take a look at thaumcraft, though it's gone through many version changes that are essentially full rewrites and I don't know which has the more polished taint..... That sounds very wrong out of context. The taint is the evil biome.
In my opinion, one of the main reasons Minecraft succeeded over Terraria is due to the difference in how accessible and how simple the game is, making Minecraft played by a much younger audience (6 ~ 11 year old kids) due to its simplicity and how easy it is, and terraria is a much more complicated and difficult game, making its self targeted to an older audience. Even I still have to use the wiki from time to time even after 1000 hours
Another big point has to be community and RUclips content. Back when parody videos from captain sparkles and all the other iconic lets plays it sent Minecraft into another dimension of enjoyability. The glory days of Minecraft heavily outshined terraria as if it wasn't competition. That being said Terraria does have a great community but Minecraft simply cultivated it and turned it into an absolute monster to be reckon with and nothing ever came close to touching that same kind of unstableness until Fortnite basically did the same thing. Terraria was the hidden gem whilst Minecraft was the limelight abuser.
The main difference is that in Minecraft you kill the boss with swords and bows while in terraria you kill the boss by using a alien space laser that you obtained from a flying saucer while riding the unicorn that you found and tamed in a rainbow biome that was created after you went to hell, killed unholy monsters and a giant wall of flesh.
You forgot the part where you perform a sacrifice with a doll of your good ol’ buddy the guide who may (or may not) have had been there since the very beginning, into a pool of lava 👍
Minecraft isnt even about killing the boss, it was just added so the game felt complete, its a game where you do whqt you want, i like building bases and spending my time in worlds, if you enjoy fighting bosses theres the wither and warden that are actually pretty hard to beat
@@maddoxreddish4352 that's a point many miss. people don't like it because they need to use imagination for the game. and that is no "get smarter" that is just true. people want minecraft to become terraria. and the reason minecraft is what it is is because it ISN'T forcing anyone to do anything. you do what you feel like. you aren't forced to fight anything, just play the game and make your own kind of progression.
@@maddoxreddish4352 that's actually a very good point. Terraria is definitely a sandbox game, but the goal is ultimately to beat the game, while in Minecraft, the "final boss" is more of a sidequest to unlock some new stuff.
@calebleach7988 Yep you could either beat the dragon in 20 minutes or take 10 real life years before even going to the end it's all your choice noone can tell you what to do and you can just turn your brain off for hours choping and mining trees and just relax
Me too. I said to myself: Minecraft is better suited for creative building ... ... and Terraria is more fun finishing the Story and enjoying its lore and quality of life.
As a long time player of both games, I can say with certainty that Minecraft needs more things to do, doesn't have to be linear proggresion but proggresion in its various systems that have been abandoned like: fishing, minecarts, exploration, and bosses (not after the dragon just random world bosses in their own unique dungeons that you can go to at any time) this would make the game so much better and I believe most players would agree.
@@leomassafm160 Features like copper or archeology that go nowhere and don't interact with other systems. Like copper is commonly thought about as a material for machines and electronics, including in minecraft modfing, and that's what everyone expects from Minecraft copper, and then Mojang adds a lightning rod (ah yes, lightnings, that happen like never) and telescope and that's all
Frankly, I think what it needs the most is things that are actually meaningful. I’ve had some of the best fun in the game in a modpack that forces you to find new food sources as old ones lose their nutritional value when you overuse them, nerves beds so that you actually need to build a proper base to survive the night, and adds seasons so that you need to prepare for the cold winter (among other things). I made that modpack in an effort to make the game difficult, but it wasn’t. I didn’t die once. Instead, it made the game very rewarding and satisfying to play, since everything you did actually had a purpose. In modern Minecraft that just isn’t the case. Why build a nice and safe base when you can just skip the night with a bed? Why find more food sources and build farms for them when a single farm is all you need? Why build a railroad system when the elytra is so much faster anyway?
thats why rlcraft is 100x more interesting. the lvls which are basically useless unless youre enchanting get expanded into a skill tree. devs need to learn from the people that mod their games. the mods exist for a reason, they're filling in gaps the game has. look at the ones that fit the game best and add them.
I remember being 10 years old when i first learned of Terraria. I didn't have a PC or anything to play it, so naturally i memorized the entire wiki and fantasized playing it for years. It was the first game i ever played and i now have around 6000 hours in Terraria and Tmodloader
How do you manage to play the game so much? I only have 500 or so hours and every time I try to play again I fail to find anything interesting about it anymore. I mean, I did enjoy it a ton in my first 200 hours, I loved it with all my heart, but it's started to bore me and I don't want to leave it...
@@kapharjr if you are feeling burnt out on terraria, it’s okay to stop playing for a bit. I’ve gone on and off on the game for 3 years. The first time I tried the game I dropped it before I had a chance to fight a boss.
@@kapharjr modding, challenges, building, etc. there's a ton of things to do in the game and you can always stop playing once you're getting bored with it. we usually get another "final update" that gives us the drive to play it again, see what's new with the modding scene, see what new challenge runs other content creators have done and want to replicate for ourselves. i've recently just been doing infernum difficulty on calamity mod and it felt like it was the first time i've played calamity.
Another good thing about Terraria is that you can suggest things to add into the game (via forums or smth like that) instead of voting in what the devs want to add in
@@luis-sophus-8227not to mention the mobs they add are often rare to find (sometimes like the allay) and all these mobs are useless, the ONLY mob with a use that we’ve voted in is the phantom and thats only because its used to repair elytras, otherwise its pointless to find things like the allay or glow squid because they dont do much, and its less efficient to search for an allay to get more loot because you could have gotten more loot if you explored on your own mojang has made the mobs so useless for the past years, none of these mobs are gamechanging or interesting in any way, yeah they might have a unique gimmick but in the end its kind of useless and they dont add much to the game because they can be hard to find the mobs they add are appealing to creative builders and people who just like to collect animals or something, otherwise they dont add anything of value to the game, i mean the only mob ive seen that was added “recently” was the glow squid, you know, the animal with 0 practical uses that spawns in a puddle of water and suffocates seconds after you spot it also in modded minecraft, theres a mod that add in the mobs that were in the mob vote that didnt get voted in, and the only mob that would have been a good addition was seemingly the wildfire, it was actually a part of the game’s progression since it could spawn alongside blazes in the blaze spawner and since it was a basically a stronger blaze with a shield, it made blaze rod grinding actually dangerous and slightly exciting because it was a dangerous mob that you were basically forced to encounter if you wanted to beat the game
I don't really mind that Mojang puts out smaller updates, the occasional big update is nice but like you said stuff like progression for Minecraft would make it bloated. I think the MC modding community is a great place to look for progression based gameplay, one of my favorites is a modpack called Vault Hunters, in my opinion its very balance in terms of progression (mostly, its still in alpha for now, still has a lot of content though) while still giving you that freedom Minecraft is know for, I recommend it for people who want that sort of experience.
I'll be honest here, I've played Minecraft for years, and only recently started with Terraria, but I love playing it more than Minecraft, mainly because the progress, updates, devs, and community. All things Minecraft has, but to a lesser degree. I still don't know half the crafting recipes Minecraft has, but I know the droprates, crafting trees, and modded content for Terraria.
Yeah same thing here, was originally playing Minecraft before trying terraria. And thank God I did because now I love terraria much more than Minecraft
Me too, I only started playing Terraria about a year ago and instantly thought it's a way better game. I still prefer Terraria over Minecraft to this day.
A huge reason for Minecraft being more popular is because is pretty much made for children (it's still fun) and therefore is not difficult to say the least unlike terraria where there is actual progression and intricate bosses that take time and skill to overcome which is obviously not aimed at kids especially the ones that are younger (10 and below) not to mention the "gore"
@@SquidBow And I agree entirely. As I mention at the end of the video, I LOVE it how it is and would never want it to change. I just thought it'd be interesting to consider why Minecraft has performed so well
And this also applies to older people, disabled people and other who don't have the metal capacity to actually overcome any obstacle yet (at least in terraria) Is like comparing playing cards to any other sport out there
It's interesting, I get bored easily in Minecraft BECAUSE there are few set goals. I can put up with Terraria's difficulty and grinding because there's more to reward my patience than just "oh look, I was finally able to build this cool thing".
Someone I can completely agree on!! I cannot play mc for more than an hour due to how bored I get, but terraria I love to keep playing due to the progression. Mc needs set goals, and despite being a builder, I can't find much motivation to keep going in mc. I played both games for over a decade on top of that.
I've found that for myself at least, when I enjoy the set goals a game has, that I can derive a lot of replayability from adding my own goals and restrictions on top of those provided by the base game. When there is no goal to begin with, I have nothing to branch off of.
Personally one of the strongest points of Terraria (something that Vinesauce Vinny noticed), is the addictive and fluid progression system. No matter what you do, there is most of the time something that lies ahead of it. Diving into the depths for ore? Well, how about these relics, statues, traps, enemy drops, rare foes and items, dye plants/ fungi, mini-biomes that you can find? Exploring the Surface? You shall meet new habitats with new wood materials, plants, and new creatures and dangers, but you must brave these areas in order to find more beyond them. Maybe these lands could give you new ideas for building too? Going to the side of the depths? Well, get ready for a rude awakening to unseen depths of biomes that seemed fairly tame on the surface, but will rip out your spine if you ever drop your guard and expect a easy time like on it's surface. And yet, these areas hold unique treasures, even the seemingly empty Desert itself. It WILL put you through the wringer. Going even further down? Well, you will be greeted by the Underworld and it's residents with the most hostile of welcome. Explore all you want, but it will make you feel like there is something that you missed elsewhere.. And then there's the NPCs that add, and clarify parts of progression. Many things that you do will have a impact on most of these people. Even someone as missable and ignorable as the Angler, will have you revisiting many places that you have seen before, and you will find things that you never obtained in your first travel through. Even the Pilon system gives incentive to build in places that are out of your comfort zone. And if you're inclined, the NPC Happiness system will have you considering each person's personalities and relationships. But you will be rewarded for it. So many elements, even smaller things like seemingly unneeded items and accessories, tie in with something later, i.e: fusing weapons and accessories on occasion. And the Guide is there to help more than we may first think..
Hell, this doesn't even bring up the variety of special events that can happen in your world! Rain, slime rain, blood moons, solar eclipses, sand storms, blizzards, parties, goblin/pirate/alien invasions, lantern nights following the defeat of a boss for the first time, and even ones summoned by the player like the Frost/Pumpkin Moon or Torch God! Meanwhile, Minecraft has...rain
@@Space97. dw I was like that too when I first played.. If you wanna get better, just use the wiki and play more! You can watch some RUclips videos to how to play terraria for beginners, gives a bunch of good tips
this actually resolves a weird feeling ive had with terraria for a long time. im more of a minecraft person, so for the long time that i did play terraria, i focused on percieving it more like 2d minecraft. eventually, i hadnt even beaten all the bosses or anything, but that level of progression wasnt really meaningful for me. i just felt like i had already finished the game. i would play the game again, but mentally i already finished it so i just dont want to play it anymore.
Minecraft thrives way more in online multiplayer as well. I've never loved vanilla Minecraft but different mini games on online servers like bedwars and stuff were a blast.
YES I FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE THAT SPOKE ABOUT THIS, don't get me wrong I love terraria a lot but I just find Minecraft better because of 1. it uses a lot more creativity than terraria which might be something people don't really like and 2. the online multiplayer as you said
Just to be totally clear, I LOVE Terraria and how it is and would NEVER ask it to change. This video is just meant to consider why the general public likes Minecraft more since, after all, it has more sales and is a more popular game.
while progression is the reason why players leave their worlds forever once they beat the game, in my opinion, it's not the reason why it's less successful than Minecraft, but instead is the Minecraft's success in RUclips as a content creation machine, way better than terraria is, in Minecraft the world is a blank canvas that the players can draw anything they want on it for many to look at and enjoy, terraria has the content already built in to it for only the player himself to enjoy. of course they can show it to their friends schoolmates or even in a RUclips video, but they are most likely not gonna understand the efforts put into that stuff or even appreciate it unless they already played the games, which doesn't help to attract new players unlike Minecraft where you don't need to have ever played the game to appreciate a good building or a redstone machine thus attracting them to the game. another point is that terraria only gets harder and harder to replay as repeating the same tasks of obtaining the same gear, building NPC housing, fighting the same bosses, running into the same events is really boring leading burn out of the game, while in Minecraft, you are the writer of your story and each story is unique and grands the feeling of achievement and pride. i really liked playing terraria, and over 7 years, i still enjoy Minecraft, and have only explored a drop of a sea of possibilities to explore
You were spot on bro...Most Minecraft players like me play the game for it's simplicity heck one of it's most played versions has seemingly no content or sense of prgression...for a lot us we just get intimidated by the complex and large array of things to do in Terraria
Minecrafts goal is to survive, explore and create Terrarias goal is to become an absolute beast, and destroy everything in your way. Was honestly expecting the video to not acknowledge the fact that these two games are VERY different, even if they seem similar. But you definitely know whatcha talking about. Probs to you.
So true The way mojang has been handling the game these past few years is pretty sad For a game about expressing yourself with creativity, updates seem so bleak and bland, having so many rules and restrictions on what they can and cant add to the game Meanwhile over at relogic they just adf goofy stuff for the sake of it Wanna have an end game toilet that sprays poop everywhere? Got it! Wanna defeat a multidimensional Demi god with a waffle shooting frying pan? Done and Done! YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TURN INTO A DINOSAUR WITH A LAWN MOWER FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
@@benji-menji I'm non binary so that makes sense, I always thought minecraft was kinda boring. All jokes aside yeah I appreciate that relogic actually cares
@@bradenhuss7003 For me, minecraft is a game I wish I can appreciate more. I enjoy it fine, but I haven't found the way I like to play quite yet. Rambling about opinions here: The real biggest problem for me is actually them hammering down on the terms and conditions in a negative way. I don't want anyone's name or skin to be compliant to the maker's rules when I am playing with friends or self moderating a server. I'm not even actually doing any of that, I just want people to do whatever they want with the game that's on their drives.
I started playing Minecraft a decade ago and have played it quite a lot, but I'll admit I've never "completed" the game. Every time I started a new survival world I would just get bored halfway through or even after just building a house. Most of my time playing the game was spent on creative mode or servers. This video has finally made me realize why I never enjoyed Minecraft survival mode all that much. Meanwhile, I only recently started playing Terraria for the first time and it's seriously a blast. The progression in this game just feels so nice. It feels less like 2D Minecraft and more like a metroidvania at times, and the boss battles become bullet hell. I'm having way more fun than I've ever had playing survival Minecraft.
The thing is, Minecraft is a true sandbox. With no actual goal or progression in place, no way to play is right or wrong. Just because you enjoyed creative and servers, doesn't mean you didn't enjoy Minecraft as a game.
@@airworks7809 I agree with that. The Devs, especially in the later updates constantly add features that are a bit, or a lot, half baked with the promise that as updates come, they are going to get fleshed out. And while it sometimes true, they just keep on adding half baked or unnecessary features so it gets harder and harder to catch on
@@TheFuckingKrayz Dont Starve also does not have a main goal and it's much more well designed than Minecraft. The only pretty cool thing in Minecraft is the redstone system
Another reason for Minecrafts popularity over Terraria is accessibility. When getting into Terraria it can be extremely overwhelming. The more straight lined progression means that there are certain things you are required to do, however the game provides very little guidance on what to do. Minecraft just lets you do whatever you want and does not require you to do anything.

i don’t think you’ve played minecraft back in the day, on top of that terraria has linear progress yes but it’s sooo much to do it’s not just a straight forward line. and this is without mods.
@@luis-sophus-8227 the only problem early Minecraft had compared to modern one is that you had to google relatively intuitive crafting recipes, it's not that hard. And considering the amount of tools and armor the game has, it's quite easy to figure out what's better for you and what you can work your way towards. Meanwhile in Terraria if I don't wanna spend 2 hours researching the wiki and different weapons/tools/armor sets, I'll have no clue what items are good and what goals I have in the first place. Sure, the guide NPC gives you some nudges in the right direction, but that's not nearly enough.
One my favorite things in both Minecraft and Terraria is how much they reference and/or compliment each other. They both have splash texts saying “Also Try Terraria/Minecraft” depending on which game you’re playing, the Wither was confirmed by Jeb to have drawn inspiration from Terraria’s summoning mechanics, and Terraria has a seasonal Creeper costume you can obtain. That’s of the top of my head I’m sure there’s probably some more.
Before watching, i paused and tried to guess your answer. My answer is Terraria is such a deep game. Where a 5 year old can play minecraft and be satisfied.
Terraria is truely a game "about the journey, not the destination." Me and my freind who is relatively new to terraria are having an absolute blast playing it together on expert mode. Terraria is a game shaped by your experienes. It and minecraft are actually very similar in that regard. I honestly love both games, but recently terraria has edged out for me, just because of the sheer passion and continued love for the community by the devs. End of the day, both games are valid, and have pros and cons. Its all down to personal preference I suppose.
@@GameyRaccoon sorry but your saying I'm a child because you lack the patience required to enjoy hypixel skyblock? Not my problem tbh if your attention span is 0.2 seconds. Honestly these 5 Yr olds on this platform acting all tough is getting annoying
minecraft has slowly been gaining more rpg elements over the years. piglins, the deep dark, trial chambers, village raids, and other such things have really improved the immersion/rpg-ness of the game
I always felt like Terraria is a survival boss-fight game with some sandbox features, whereas Minecraft is a sandbox with some survival-game features. Both are awesome, but if we're talking about a game, Terraria is much more developed as such. Funny fact though, you can build a real-life computer in both
You nailed it! If you want a strong progression and a "reason to play" - go play Terraria and let us enjoy our "slow and boring block building" game. People should stop to compare these games, they are different.
One of the few videos that manage to understand exactly what it is that makes Minecraft so widely appealing. That freedom. The ability to only be limited to your imagination. That is what sets Minecraft apart. It reminds me of Yahtzee Croshaw's review of Minecraft and how he described it as a responsible adult that makes you make and earn your goals so you learn to appreciate what you accomplish more.
That's the same thing that makes Terraria popular, most RPGS are like a 3d world where you can only mine certain objects. Well Terraria you can't mine the evil stone for part of your journey- but that's besides the point
Something to be said abt terraria and its worlds is that u can actually use the same character from one world to another, and bring over stuff across both worlds. You cant rlly do this in minecraft. So, in a way u could say terraria actually has an infinite world, and its something terraria does better than minecraft.
I played both Minecraft and Terraria on multiplayer with friends and have to say they’re equally good, though Minecraft is probably better suited for that. However I found Terraria with friends a very fun experience - grinding for bosses together, long conversations and then trying to somehow defeat the bosses. We even celebrated New Years in Terraria with fireworks :)
Personally, I like both games but Minecraft appeals more in a couple different ways. It is a lot more visually appealing. In Minecraft, there are some cases of beautiful scenery that can't be replicated by Terraria's limited pixel. Especially adding shader and texture packs. Also, Terraria can be extremely grindy and constantly needing to find new items in order to keep up with the world enemies and bosses. It kinda feels like a constant stress for getting stronger which I found really fun but I also found it tedious at times which can be the reason why its not made for the mass public. Minecraft is much more calm and just feels like you have way more freedom to do what you want. You can choose to become a PVP warlord, be a master builder, redstone mechanic, or some random hobby like building the biggest farm or mass slaughtering animals. It just feels like even though quantity-wise there are less things to get or do, it feels so much more detailed and niche to try to pursue something in a Minecraft world. Idk that's just my thoughts.
Calling terraria unsuccessful is kinda stupid and clickbaity imo. terraria is a trenendous success, minecraft may have sold more copies, but that dosen't take away from the fact that terraria still has millions of players who serious love the game.
He never said it was unsuccessful, he literally showed the copies sold of terraria and said terraria by no means is unsuccessful, just less successful then Minecraft
I think minecraft is more popular because its 3D, I think if they added a proper progression system like Terraria where its not forced The game would become alot more popular as a whole. Just like how people dont even kill the ender dragon in minecraft in terraria some people dont go into hard mode.
you arent forced to progress in minecraft either. once you get iron (the third tools/first armour you get) you dont really need to level up unless you choose to take on the harder areas of the game.
Most of the features in Minecraft can be found through exploration and simply playing the game and you can do whatever you want. With terraria I don’t think I have gone a single play through or even play session without having to look something up online to progress and I have played the game quite a bit.
So, I also think Minecraft's popularity comes from the creativity based sandbox gameplay, with all the different possibilities, but adding a real progression system wouldn't hurt it that much, sure, the focus may shift a bit, but with Minecraft's step by step updates, I think it would not destroy the other aspect. I think, Terraria needs more sandbox features, because again, it wouldn't destroy the already existing progression, but would a another layer of gameplay, another optional type of experience. Minecraft should have a really good and large progression system, but it shouldn't urge the player to progress in the story, but try to encourage the creativity aspect. So basically, no quest page with an exclemation mark, when you have a quest, and an arrow on your compass, but just an expansion of the already existing progression. Just add a bit more crazy terrain generation, a completely overhauled end, and the whole sulk thing, and boom, you had more gameplay. All of the sandbox options minecraft offers you right now are boring, because they're so extremely time consuming, with no inner motivation to do it. I'm not a builder, map creator, or whatever minecraft wants you to be, all the servers and datapacks are just vanilla+, so I ONLY play with mods, or on the Origin Realms server. I just... minecraft isn't fun anymore, we have already done every interesting thing in it, and there's nothing left to do. I'm no BastiGHG who comes up with, over the time repetetive challenges, to alter the gameplay a tiny bit. I'm missing something groundbreaking. I think Minecraft lives off the frequent updates. If they stopped, it would also slowly fade away. And at this moment, the updates quality is descending quite quickly. I hope Minecraft can rise again, because I love that game, and I want to be able to enjoy it again... thy to all the people who were reading this entire comment, I put all of my emotions and feelings in. Right now, I'm really sad, I will now hear the song Eternal Bros, and then go to sleep. Bye my friendos 😉🥱😴
I havent beaten wall of flesh and im 50 hours in 💀. I've been wasting time doing fishing quest for the ultimate fishing build. I also made the cellphone and terraspark boots LOL
I do have a few things to say regarding this topic: Minecraft has servers. Pretty much all of them aren't modded and are made using command blocks. These offer a way bigger array of things to do and are in my opinion a big reason why Minecraft is still popular and grew to this popularity in the first place. Also the best servers are on java, and since I mentioned java I have to say that it is quite different from bedrock, the most notable change for me being the fighting mechanics on the newer versions (for anyone that doesn't know axes do more damage than swords, but are slower, however they can also break shields so you can't just sit there and block everything, you also can't just spam with a weapon). You also mentioned that there aren't a lot of things to get good at in MC, and with that I disagree. Don't get me wrong, Terraria is my favourite game of all time and Minecraft is probably around 10th, but I think that there is a good amount of things to "git gud" in Minecraft: building, speedrunning, redstone and fighting which is especially hard to master on java when doing pvp. However these are all basically things that you can get good at in Terraria. Creativity is a must when it comes to playing Minecraft consistently and for a long time. Some people really like grinding 10 hours to get blocks to build something impressive because the felling of seeing a charming and towering build that you made is what they want. I'm not getting into the modded stuff but both games become greater when good mods are installed. Look, I have spent so long playing Terraria (mainly long playthroughs) across 4 different devices that I don't have to go on the wiki except only when I want to take a look at some really nerdy stuff like luck. I don't want to say that Minecraft is better, just that most people that make a video on the "Terraria is/isn't better than Minecraft" topic don't know both the games to their core, they might not know their communities, their devs etc. but you took a lot of little details into consideration and I really apreciate that. As you said at one point, both the games went off their separate directions and I don't think it's this easy to fairly compare them. It's just personal preference.
well, your comment was worth the read. I'd normally respond with a paragraph and a half on why I agree with you lol, but I'll just leave it at: you understand. they went their separate ways and are not the same. it is time to end the "which is better" struggle. they are both great wonders.
It's kinda interesting that when terraria youtubers talk about minecraft, they say the Elder Guardian is a boss. I mean, yeah, technically, but if you ask the average minecraft player to name all the bosses, they would probably only say the ender dragon and the wither
Yeah, when making the video I figured I'd just mention them all because I was sure some people would go "hey these other things are bosses to." There's no winning 😅
I want Terraria to make a Minecraft version of it called ,for example, "Update Minecraft' where everything is pure minecraft but 2d. NO guide at the start or any npc nor tools just bare hands chopping the trees and going to the nether and then killing 2d ender dragon. Also having villages and villagers and infinite world size and no evil biome.Imagine exploring Strongholds in 2d terraria :) While also i would like Minecraft to do same "Update Terraria! or Pixelated Update" where mojang do the same things .But i think it is bit difficult for minecraft to make all the boss movements and all things work properly. Like terraria ,nether or underworld should be under the world and sky islands above.Imagine killing wyverns in sky islands in 3d world. Also would love background and music of Terraria in it. And then we would see for ourselves wether we should like these styles. I really love both games and im fan of them both. And I want these two games to be twins :)and shared amongst communities
Tho I agree with the idea that the lack of a linear progression makes minecraft gameplay more durable, I would also consider the factors that minecraft's current popularity it's thanks to the popularity it had many m a n y years ago among content creators that grew alongside the game and made it so the game stayed with in the public consciousness over the long run, cause it was That Game that everyone remembers. And also the fact that terraria has a lot of way of easy transportation to cross large portions of the world that makes it so you can get faster to that end game that ends up stalegeting, making so players expend less time with each individual world.
Minecraft is far better than Terraria because of one simple reason: simplicity. When you first look at a Terraria gameplay, you see someone flying everywhere laser guns and doing all these fast-paced activity compared to when you first look at a Minecraft gameplay, you can easily understand what's happening and process it.
More children like 7-11 years old play minecraft a lot, because of the simplicity,i actually tried terraria when i was 10,i got wood and didn't know what else to do,but then playing minecraft it was way way easier, now thar im older i have already beaten terraria and will do it 10x times more with mods too, terraria is such a beautiful and almost perfect progression part sandbox game, the problem is that the game itself its hard to understand, that makes it not be that popular.
I think a big reson to minecraft popularity is that there are so many things to do. A six year old could enjoy it by for example playing with mods. A teenager can do competetive stuff, adults can do massive projects and interact online while 90 year olds can build in creative. Me personlay, I don't see my grandmother fighting bosses in Terarria.
Looking how Aether, an mod completely centered around progression and beating bosses, is the most famous Minecraft mod of all time, with lots of demands to add it in the vanilla game, is a very good indicative that there's a very huge demand for progression since the early days of Minecraft.
Ive played Minecraft since around 2014 and got into Terraria just a few years ago and honestly Terraria feels like a breath of fresh air. It feels so alive compared to Minecraft where I need to download ambient addon packs for the game just so I dont fall asleep to the music and silence occasionally broken by a wild farm animal. Not to mention the abundance of weapons, armor, tools, and furniture Terraria has to Minecraft. I'll always love Minecraft but Terraria really brings my inner kid out.
In my personal opinion. The thing that makes Minecraft lot worse than terraria is because the lack of social. In terraria, you get talking NPCs that have different personality, and awesome ambient and soundtracks. While Minecraft you feel like you're alone in a vast soulles infinite world, even thought there are some mobs like villager, they still aren't "intellegent" you can't just talk to them. Minecraft was just too boring and too simple.
Minecraft is all about creating your own story. If characters talked and had set personalities, etc. that would stop you from creating your own reality and giving the npcs and animals their own personalities.
One thing I'd just like to mention rral quick is the multiplayer aspect. In terraria, it is UNBELIEVABLY easy to set up and start playing with your friends in a matter of minutes. With minecraft you either have to pay your way there, or SUFFER through a free server. They didn't want to make multiplayer easy, in a game MANY people play for the multiplayer adpect!
? Its easy to start a world and get people to join, atleast on bedrock where alot of the players are, realms are juat if you want a server to stay up after the host leaves, java you have to get a server hosted which usually costs money
You made an interesting point, I think there's a little truth in what you say :) Also there's a big difference between the rewards each game gives you for your effort. Most of Minecraft rewards are cosmetic items, that don't make you any better or stronger (with the exception of maybe shulker boxes or elytra), but Terraria gives this amazing feeling of powering up to infinity (and beyond) each time you achieve something (conquer a new biome, kill a certain boss). I like both games, but I think I've spent most of the time in Minecraft by doing just the most basic stuff like spelunking or exploring, and that wears off quickly.
@@Raju-lz5ry Well the rarest and most valuable things you can find in dungeons and bastions are music discs, armor trims, banner patterns and so on. You can make better armor than what you can find in chests, so I don't see a point in that. So like basically exploration became really boring for me, because I don't know, what I want to find anymore. (Even the totem of undying is now dropped from raids, so you don't have to search for the mansion.)
okay, before watching the video i'll give my guess rq it's partially the 2D 3D difference and more of what that means is connected to the second and most important point minecraft is so much more player creativity and self made goals centric, while terraria has it's progression and enemies as it's center point so while i and many others love the terraria approach maybe sometimes more, the one minecraft has helped it's marketing tremoundously (idk how to write that word) so yeah i'll continue now yep, i was right but yeah i personally like the terraria progression approach better for myself but yeah
Another big problem is the that they are starting to demand that players play by their rules despite claiming that they are making the game for everyone. They are working on removing names without adding a display name system and banning skins because they don't follow their guidelines. If those changes go through, then all the respect I have for them will dwindle fast. Minecraft is a game for everyone to use to its full potential. Nude skins have their place and don't belong everywhere. Offensive names are a problem and shouldn't be used as IDs. But these rules aren't for everyone so forcing everyone to follow them on every server is a huge problem for freedom and the free web. All they need to do is let players have server by server display names and only have skin limits on appropriate servers.
Why would a game designed for younger audiences allow nude skins on their game at all. It’s also a reputation-downer when a game is allowing such user content on their platform
@@kratelox7383 They wouldn't. The problem is that they are enforcing these rules everywhere that they don't belong. Various people would rather use minecraft in other ways that deserve to be appreciated or at least just left alone. If minecraft is really for everyone, then why are they trying to sabotage all these different forms of expression, even on privately owned servers? They have all the right to enforce those rules on their own servers and prevent other servers from appearing in any official server browser if they break the rules, but they have no business limiting servers that are ran on privately own hardware and software copies. (I believe our software is our own even if eula and contracts say otherwise. They are too long and a waste of time when it comes to gaming.)
At least nowadays, the devteam’s actions speak volumes more than the game itself: - Mojang accounts have been purged as of 19/09/2023, rendering many players’ accounts gone. - Terraria won Labour of Love in Steam’s Game Awards in 2022 and they responded by dropping arguably their second largest update as thanks

i think the limited world size is actually a strength. it gives you a clear goal that feels rewarding to explore. each playthrough can be it's own memory then you make another. let's be real, how many people are really exploring a minecraft world that long other than weirdos that make videos of themselves draining oceans.
Also, funnily enough (10:50) the Elder Guardian (on the left) isnt even considered a boss since it doesnt have a boss hp bar. Furthermore, the Warden (peaking from the bottom) is not technically boss and is a monster similar to the dungeon guard who just acts as an impenetrable barrier,
So many people don't really understand a good portion of what makes Minecraft special. I often see people suggest absurd things like guns, while other people HEAVILY go against anything new or 'modern' because in their mind Minecraft is supposed to be 'medieval'. I've personally always loved Minecraft for what it is: A sandbox game that I can play with my friends without the need or worry about grinding or learning about too many things. Minecraft's key identity is complexity within simplicity: You only have a few buttons like Break/Place, Interact, walk and jump. Those are VERY simple yet it leads to so many complex things that is just admirable. As someone that can get easily overwhelmed by tasks and can get pretty bored without a set goal. Minecraft can get pretty boring to play alone as I've spent most of my childhood playing alone and I've never really thought or experienced on finding joy for myself so I find it in others. It makes me so happy, so excited, so thrilled to play Minecraft with my friends since they're the core part of it all. Experiences are meant to be shared, and Minecraft is an experience. The Minecraft community as a whole is pretty large and with so many people bubbling resentment and negativity builds up to the point people don't even see how much Mojang cares about the game. There are some problems with Mojang that I really wished they did better, but I can't be angry with them when I've experienced coding for myself that even the SLIGHTEST amount of change can cascade into a flurry of incompatibility. It got to bad that the modding community had to go out of their way to EXPLICITLY state that coding isn't as easy as they show it and that they don't support the community attacking the devs and using their names for their own goal. It's very saddening to see since I've cherished Minecraft as a game that breeds community, yet the community itself is seeking to ruin it. People want sharks in the game and that Mojang should make it neutral yet I wonder: What would happen to the people that play minecraft? Would they think that swimming with sharks would be good? Would parents accept that Mojang is allowing sharks to be this peaceful creature. Even shark lovers know that you have to be WEARY of them as they aren't some harmless herbivore but predators, they aren't as dangerous but they have real world consequences. The community doesn't understand that adding new armor, new weapons, new bosses, and new dimensions are TEMPORARY pleasures. Sure, we have a new stronger boss, now the community will either ask new better weapons/armor which then creates a cycle that never ends as it only escalates for the sake of that dopamine shot. People can't understand that the beauty of minecraft is the creativity, while I wish there would be vertical slabs, I wonder on how they'll implement it and on how it'll interact with other creatures like spiders. One simple pebble can create a cascade of disruption that no one thinks about as all they see how the water splashes not on how those ripples need to be calmed down for others to fully enjoy. I reallly like the video, although it does glaze Terraria. I'm not going to lie that they each have their own qualities to them. I can't ever get into terraria as it's merely 'reach X goal' without much difference or variations. Terraria is very much a different taste, and as you put it 'refined' in a way, but a refined taste doesn't always mean that it's for everyone, not even vanilla is good for everyone. I just wish that the community of these games at least appreciate and adore what the devs have given us and the many memories we had with them.
Building in Terraria is actually crazy good. With so much variety in building materials and furniture and the option to paint and hammer blocks builds can look extremely stunning. I've spent my fair share of time just building stuff in the game. I think the building aspect is better than in Minecraft, but it doesn't offer the excitement of picking that perfect location in the world, that beautiful cliffside at an ocean, or a big mountaintop with an amazing view of the surrounding land that really helps the build to feel like it's in a distinct, unique place in the world. In Terraria, a house in the forest biome, no matter how detailed or pretty, is always just gonna feel like a house in a forest biome. Even if the game had more unique landmarks the limited view of the screen wouldn't make building around them that much more worth it.
I kind of disagree with people who say Minecraft is just for kids. Just because Minecraft was created for children doesn't mean only children can enjoy it. I mean, how is it different from Terraria when it's also only for a certain type of player? The beauty of Minecraft, as people say, is its simplicity and that makes it accessible to all types of players (Seriously, I thought we were done with the whole "Minecraft is only for for children" then?). But again, I really don't see the point of these Minecraft vs Terraria arguments. Each game has its own value and fun. The Dev Team of Minecraft and Terraria even told their players to try each other's games.
Minecraft is too simple for me. Idk if that’s just me, but I found terraria more mentally taxing which is something I like. Minecraft is simply too easy to get good at.
@@garlicmynuts but thats because skill expression was never really considered in minecraft hear me out its a sandbox first and foremost it focuses on creativity not skill and as far as sandbox experiences go i dont think minecraft can really be beat
@@be7256 but even at that terraria smashes it. First of all the while hammer system is so much better and the amount of attention to detail you can add to stuff is insane. Tbh they’re pretty equal but I just think is cool how terraria manages all that and is 2d
I can never quite understand people on Minecraft keeping going after beating the end dragon on Minecraft, after that and maybe killing the wither or something, after a little bit I always just start getting bored because I feel there’s nothing to work towards, no new goal to achieve. That’s why these days I mostly only play Minecraft modded
People play minecraft for different reasons. For me, I like building houses and exploring. I never cared about killing the enderdragon or going to the nether. And I still enjoy the game just fine. Honestly, minecraft is so open-ended that you can do anything you want. Which leads to people playing the game in vastly different ways.
wow, you know nothing. i get why people dont play minecraft, but you have NO IDEA why people play minecraft after """"""""""""beating"""""""""""" the game???? how can you be this ignorant
I think what people don’t get is the biggest community in Minecraft is building for example bdubs, and redstone for example ilmango, all the progression stuff don’t matter to any of them, and that’s why Minecraft lives as the biggest video game.
i think that instead of adding linear progression, mojang should add more options for things, like more mobs, more non essestial bosses like the wither, and stuff like that, which only give you more stuff to do, not make it so you have a specific thing to do
I agree. It is progressionn but also simplicity. Terraria doesn't always do a great job at guiding the player to what they're supposed to do especially at the beginning and many people get confused on how to progress. Because minecraft has less of a goal this isn't a problem
As someone who has been playing minecraft since beta 1.6 the game is an amazing sandbox and it’s very easy to link up with people and play together. It’s awesome to have servers because people can always help out with things and you don’t feel like you lost out on progression/ the game by not being there. In terraria playing with friends if someone isn’t there for a session or does stuff by themselves people feel like they moved forward in the game without them and then aren’t as motivated to keep going cause they still want to kill a boss before the next one maybe to get a specific drop or something. With minecraft being much more open ended servers can last for years and still be played on since some machines take tens of hours to build. In terraria because there is a set end if you play with people once you beat it you move on to either a new world or a new game. There is none of that lasting reason to come back to the same world and keep building since once you’ve killed moon lord there’s not much you can do to idk make the fight easier or set up a system to kill him automatically or something. One of the reason I love minecraft so much is that anything you think you can do you can probably do it where there are small things in terraria that I think cuts into player agency. Granted I’ve only played terraria for about 40 hours just beating the mechanical bosses on an classic classic world. But the game has been far to easy even boring so I moved worlds to a classic master and it’s been much more fun cause there’s actually a challenge and a reason to prepare! So far I’ve spent 10 hours just setting things up in master world (I’m also restricting myself resource wise to the snow biome) so I can beat all the bosses I need to progress. Both games are great but when I ask people about terraria who have played it tend to just say they have played it when you ask some one if they played minecraft they tell you about their adventure and builds or ask you if you want to see them.
I feel like marketing is also a big factor here. Even when it started, Minecraft was actively publicised, and now it has a leg in almost all media. Terraria, in the other hand, was leaked unfinished, took some time to recover and made some adds. Now it has a comic and some other merch, but its all mostly for fans. At this point i wouldnt be surprised if Minecrafts marketing team was much bigger than Re-Logic in its entirety.
ive been playing minecraft for about 7 years and i always thought that terraria was just 2d minecraft, but i started playing terraria a few weeks ago and its way better than Minecraft ngl
for the past three years, Mojang have only added stuff that the community asks for/is involved in. also, they do a mob vote/biome vote every year so everyone can have a say in what gets into the game.
@@Ethan_CubedYou think Minecraft is doing mob votes out of the kindness of their heart?? No, it’s more of a publicity thing because everybody talks about the mob votes when they happen.
One thing that would be awesome is an item that can be used to have a pocket dimension. So, you have like 80x80 free space by cube and can add chest to teleport in it and then place your stuff in there. Boom, you go back to where you went first. No one beside you can enter in it too. So you can heal in there too. PvP might be a bit broken because of that, but also will prevent so much trouble.
A problem Minecraft has compared to Terraira is the lack of content in certain aspects of the games, like the desert, you have literally nothing to do in it expect for finding desert temples and getting tons of sand. They need to add more stuff to the desert
the only reason i like minecraft today is because i loved it as a kid, going to school, and coming home and just letting my imagination run wild, playing alone or with friends and family. Nowadays, I dont have the time to sit and brainstorm a house idea, or play with the boys, i have more important things to do, so a more linear straightforward but still free game like terraria is exactly what i need
I like the idea of Minecraft remaining largely unguided and goalless, open for the player to interpret, but introducing far more things to do that require you to be at certain points in progression, some of which may tie into one another but not all. in an open-ended sandbox, the more variety there is the better, and when it fits, one thing can give you reason to do another, while staying in its general lane of doing as you see fit
yeah it is the reason why minecraft became more popular as in its early days it had no progression The OG mc players like it as it is simple and open and has no progression Actually I also like open world games more so my vote goes to minecraft Althogh I think terraria is also a very good game
You did not mention the building aspect of the game. Although I love taking the game slow, the introduction of corruption during hard mode disrupted my progress, and I had to rush through the game to stop it. I enjoyed building in Terraria as much as I do in Minecraft, but corruption ruined it for me because it destroyed my builds in the blink of an eye.
Journey Mode comes more after Minecraft Education Edition than creative mode. One key aspect is any item/block in any quantity available from the time you create the world, and the ability to fly; unbound by the limitations that is called 'survival', and with cheats the ability to switch between creative and survival at will.
I've played both Terraria and Minecraft yet despite liking Minecraft better, it was so refreshing hearing a neutral perspective on the topic. Good vid dude
yeah. you dont need to be very good at the game to enjoy it. you can just build a house, set up a farm, or do whatever simple things you want pretty easy. it means you can get hours of gameplay in the game without even making any significant progress at all.
And the fact that it appeals to most people, Minecraft has at least one thing that appeals to someone. It may be building, or killing the ender dragon.
@@DalekGarf that isn't really an argument for this though, terraria has building and killing dragons too, so i'm not sure that is one of the reasons minecraft is more popular
@@San-lh8us Yeah but Terraria has a more strict progression system, while Minecraft lets you do anything at anytime without anything locked behind something.
Minecraft is kinda boring without Mods. Terraria has 100s of hours of content if not more and that’s just base game, then there’s mods that add huge amounts content on top of that.
Terraria is definitely for older audiences. When I was a little kid I couldn’t even beat eye of cathulu and in Minecraft I played exclusively creative mode. I did not like the challenge but I liked getting the her from my older brother and running around building trash and killing stuff. (This was on mobile)
I found that minecraft at first I could play over and over, creating awesome things to show with my friends. I eventually moved to playing just multiplayer, and now I barely (if ever) touch survival. The thing I played minecfrat for wasn’t for the “minecrafty survival” but instead for the friends, I eventually ended up just playing bedwars on hypixel and then skyblock after that. Terraria on the other hand, I recently did a full play through trying to max out my character before defeating moonlord. Once I did defeat moonlord I didn’t know what else to do, and haven’t played since. Minecraft doesn’t just let you do so much in survival, it’s you can do the same thing in so many different ways AND join peoples servers with unique gameplay, terraria is more fun on its own but (I personally) can’t keep playing it over and over.
Its kinda weird that terraria and minecraft are even compared at all. Theyre both sandbox games yes but Doom and CoD are also both shooters. Terraria is basicly a Sandbox mini RPG, you go out in the world, get stronger and conqoure bigger and bigger foes. Minercraft is a sandbox Survival game (surivival being written very tiny) where you go out into the world and dont try to fight anyone but instead let your creativity flow freely. Yes there are both aspects present in both games but The main focus are two completly different paths of a crossroads. And if youre wondering, I personally enjoy Minecraft more. Vanilla is so chill and Modded is basicly my introdruction drug into the crack that is Factorio, Satisfactory, DSP and others.
I used to play Minecraft for a LONG time but slowly got bored because there’s no real challenge or goals. Then I converted to roblox for a while. Bought terraria 3 days ago and I’m having WAY more fun than I did when I started Minecraft because there’s more to do, the gameplay is more fun (in my opinion) and I feel less limited with how I can fight and grind for items… I stayed up till 4 am grinding for a nights edge… now I have a terra blade
I got nights edge and terra blade on different days I’m not insane yet Also yea I have died to twins like 4 times for anyone who asks for whatever reason

I see both some valid points and a fair amount of copium. Minecraft has massively more progression than terraria. it's just not a single forced path. Making massive farms, and using those materials to make more farms, or make your like easier by automating the collection of difficult-to-find resources, and even trading them if on a server. And this is just one path of progression. Making fully maxed-out gear can take many many hours of playtime after creating a world. Minecraft has a ton more progression than terraria. Its just not forced on you as much, and there are multiple paths instead of a single one (that may split and remerge at some parts but is still one path) Overall Minecraft is more appealing because it may not have set bosses like Terraria, but you can pick a thing to make progress at and make progress on that. Redstone, farms, economy, building, exploring, and im sure there are plenty more. Add to that both the social advantage Minecraft's massively better multiplayer has over Terraria and you can see how it is overall a better-designed game, as Terraria is more of a "this is cool, let's add it" type game, that has an extensive range of cool stuff, but once you've seen them all multiple times, they stop being cool. So diversity, replayability, and social interaction are the major factors. Not lack of progression just because you as a Minecraft noob don't understand intuitively how its progression systems work This was written by someone with hundreds of hours, probably thousands in BOTH games.
I think there's a core difference in how we both understand "progression." If at some point in the game, you are the most powerful thing in the world, there is no longer any game progression. In Minecraft that takes very little time when compared to Terraria and, as I mentioned in the video, it's not the point of Minecraft. You can say you can keep making progress on builds and farms but that's not game progression, that's just what a sandbox is.
@@fannyboy8294 Well no, because there's nothing for you to overcome. You made thing easier on yourself, yes. But it's all a self-determined goal. You're not overcoming anything the game throws at you. It's progression, sure, in the same sense that you make progress in any project in life, but it's not game progression.
@@Throarbin so Minecraft is a worse game because it manages to be more enjoyable for most people while also teaching them useful life skills instead of giving them a small but addicting dopamine boost? Something doesn't add up here imo
@@fannyboy8294 What? idk where all that came from. Not sure where you got "life skills" or how Terraria would be nothing more than a dopamine hit. You realize Terraria is also a sandbox right? I thought we were talking about what game progression means.
kids and youtubers. while the reason you gave in your video may be valid, it is far from the most important factor that decided minecraft's success. in my opinion youtubers and kids (just like how it happened with five nights at freddies) are the main reason why minecraft is the best selling game of all time. kids watch the youtuber, the youtuber plays a blocky game, parent sees the blocky game, parent buys the blocky game to their kid. its easy, accesible and runs on anything nowadays.
Terraria has more enemies and weapons because it is technically created fighting oriented while Minecraft us creative and survival oriented. Just my thoughts though. I love both.
The main reason i enjoy Minecraft a little more is just because of building. You can definitely make some nice looking stuff in terraria but in Minecraft, you can do a lot more. Both games are still fun.
Terraria's corruption relies on the limited size worlds and 2d dimension, Imagine trying to remove all the corruption in a infinite world, It would never end!
Actually...I LOVE that idea. Imagine a world as big as Minecraft where the corruption actually SPREADS. Oh the possibilities....
That should be a game. You constantly have to pick up all your supplies and travel further away. That would be a fun gameplay loop for sure.
@@Throarbin Many minecraft mods do this, to varying levels of success. Take a look at thaumcraft, though it's gone through many version changes that are essentially full rewrites and I don't know which has the more polished taint..... That sounds very wrong out of context. The taint is the evil biome.
I will flay you for that idea
I guess you can call sculk minecraft's corruption of sorts, though it only spreads only when a mob dies nearby.
Yeah, that's a point a few people have mentioned and that's definitely a BIG factor as well

I meant a lot not slot
Yeah, used to love Minecraft but started leaning towards terraria
But loads of kids play Terraria too?

@@maddoxreddish4352 that's a point many miss. people don't like it because they need to use imagination for the game. and that is no "get smarter" that is just true. people want minecraft to become terraria. and the reason minecraft is what it is is because it ISN'T forcing anyone to do anything. you do what you feel like. you aren't forced to fight anything, just play the game and make your own kind of progression.

everyone here: a gigachad for playing both and not hating on either
The thing about Minecraft is that it has a lot of features... that mean very little
@@leomassafm160 Features like copper or archeology that go nowhere and don't interact with other systems. Like copper is commonly thought about as a material for machines and electronics, including in minecraft modfing, and that's what everyone expects from Minecraft copper, and then Mojang adds a lightning rod (ah yes, lightnings, that happen like never) and telescope and that's all
Mods have to make up the difference, or I feel like a lot of people wouldn't play it for that long anymore.

@@luis-sophus-8227not to mention the mobs they add are often rare to find (sometimes like the allay) and all these mobs are useless, the ONLY mob with a use that we’ve voted in is the phantom and thats only because its used to repair elytras, otherwise its pointless to find things like the allay or glow squid because they dont do much, and its less efficient to search for an allay to get more loot because you could have gotten more loot if you explored on your own
mojang has made the mobs so useless for the past years, none of these mobs are gamechanging or interesting in any way, yeah they might have a unique gimmick but in the end its kind of useless and they dont add much to the game because they can be hard to find
the mobs they add are appealing to creative builders and people who just like to collect animals or something, otherwise they dont add anything of value to the game, i mean the only mob ive seen that was added “recently” was the glow squid, you know, the animal with 0 practical uses that spawns in a puddle of water and suffocates seconds after you spot it
also in modded minecraft, theres a mod that add in the mobs that were in the mob vote that didnt get voted in, and the only mob that would have been a good addition was seemingly the wildfire, it was actually a part of the game’s progression since it could spawn alongside blazes in the blaze spawner and since it was a basically a stronger blaze with a shield, it made blaze rod grinding actually dangerous and slightly exciting because it was a dangerous mob that you were basically forced to encounter if you wanted to beat the game

I still don't know half the crafting recipes Minecraft has, but I know the droprates, crafting trees, and modded content for Terraria.
wow, you dove into Terraria pretty quick by the sounds of it. Glad you've converted to the dark side, bwahahaha
Yeah same thing here, was originally playing Minecraft before trying terraria. And thank God I did because now I love terraria much more than Minecraft
One of us.
Me too, I only started playing Terraria about a year ago and instantly thought it's a way better game.
I still prefer Terraria over Minecraft to this day.
minecraft only have the community thing, they are far away to have the progress, updates or devs from terraria
Yeah, that's definitely a point I should have talked about more. Minecraft's target audience and general accessibility is a big deal
@@Throarbin Terrarias progression is why I love it and it's one my favorite games, can't imagine it being bad
@@SquidBow And I agree entirely. As I mention at the end of the video, I LOVE it how it is and would never want it to change. I just thought it'd be interesting to consider why Minecraft has performed so well
And don't even forget "pressure plate" and "happy ending"
And this also applies to older people, disabled people and other who don't have the metal capacity to actually overcome any obstacle yet (at least in terraria)
Is like comparing playing cards to any other sport out there
It's interesting, I get bored easily in Minecraft BECAUSE there are few set goals. I can put up with Terraria's difficulty and grinding because there's more to reward my patience than just "oh look, I was finally able to build this cool thing".
Yeah, I think that's the case for a lot of people
I play minecraft much more because I enjoy the grind and building. It is satisfying to see a finished build but I think you have to enioy the process.
When there is no goal to begin with, I have nothing to branch off of.
for some reason i think i'm better at building in terraria than minecraft
I suggest you to pin this
You were spot on bro...Most Minecraft players like me play the game for it's simplicity heck one of it's most played versions has seemingly no content or sense of prgression...for a lot us we just get intimidated by the complex and large array of things to do in Terraria
Minecrafts goal is to survive, explore and create
Terrarias goal is to become an absolute beast, and destroy everything in your way.

Rambling about opinions here:
The real biggest problem for me is actually them hammering down on the terms and conditions in a negative way.
@@TheFuckingKrayz I never said I didn't enjoy Minecraft as a whole, just survival mode.
Minecraft really feels incomplete, with many systems that kinda go nowhere

Interconnected worlds, the multiverse man!

At least the games mutually respected each other by having the message to go play each other
But the community (at least before) was the complete opposite it was all Terraria is just 2d Minecraft
I meant the games startup messages saying "also try terraria/Minecraft"
I mean technically speaking 🤓
It would take several trillion years to truly complete Minecraft by breaking every block collecting every item etc
Terraria will be my favorite if they add a /summon command (no mods)
I like both games alot, they are both very nostalgic for me. Both have calming soundtracks.
It's simply because Terraria are more complex. And i found some people too lazy to find out what's behind that complexity
I think minecraft is more popular because its 3D, I think if they added a proper progression system like Terraria where its not forced The game would become alot more popular as a whole. Just like how people dont even kill the ender dragon in minecraft in terraria some people dont go into hard mode.
That's true, I have heard that there are people who don't even really bother progressing in Terraria

@@Ethan_Cubed you don't even need an armor to beat ender dragons, just a couple of beds and thats it
Most of the features in Minecraft can be found through exploration and simply playing the game and you can do whatever you want.
I hope Minecraft can rise again, because I love that game, and I want to be able to enjoy it again... thy to all the people who were reading this entire comment, I put all of my emotions and feelings in. it took me like 200 hours for me to finally beat wall of flesh wym
for me i cannot play minecraft without it being modded its literally almost unplayable without those performance and QOL fixing mojang's game
I do have a few things to say regarding this topic:
Minecraft has servers.
I'd normally respond with a paragraph and a half on why I agree with you lol, but I'll just leave it at:
you understand. they went their separate ways and are not the same.

Also having villages and villagers and infinite world size and no evil biome.Imagine exploring Strongholds in 2d terraria :)
While also i would like Minecraft to do same "Update Terraria! or Pixelated Update" where mojang do the same things .But i think it is bit difficult for minecraft to make all the boss movements and all things work properly. Like terraria ,nether or underworld should be under the world and sky islands above.Imagine killing wyverns in sky islands in 3d world. Also would love background and music of Terraria in it.
And then we would see for ourselves wether we should like these styles.

hmmm i think it is a good idea.
wow i would definitely buy terraria again if they did that
bro there is literally a mod called Terrariacraft(for minecraft)
Tho I agree with the idea that the lack of a linear progression makes minecraft gameplay more durable, I would also consider the factors that minecraft's current popularity it's thanks to the popularity it had many m a n y years ago among content creators that grew alongside the game and made it so the game stayed with in the public consciousness over the long run, cause it was That Game that everyone remembers.
And also the fact that terraria has a lot of way of easy transportation to cross large portions of the world that makes it so you can get faster to that end game that ends up stalegeting, making so players expend less time with each individual world.
No. Not true my father showed me Minecraft and I liked a lot

If characters talked and had set personalities, etc. that would stop you from creating your own reality and giving the npcs and animals their own personalities.
thats the point? one of the biggest reasons why people love beta and alpha minecraft is that it felt lonely. you dont know why minecraft is appealing.
You made an interesting point, I think there's a little truth in what you say :)
Also there's a big difference between the rewards each game gives you for your effort.
Idk what you talking about
Cosmetics? Really
(Even the totem of undying is now dropped from raids, so you don't have to search for the mansion.)
okay, before watching the video i'll give my guess rq
it's partially the 2D 3D difference and more of what that means is connected to the second and most important point
minecraft is so much more player creativity and self made goals centric, while terraria has it's progression and enemies as it's center point
so while i and many others love the terraria approach maybe sometimes more, the one minecraft has helped it's marketing tremoundously (idk how to write that word)
so yeah i'll continue now
yep, i was right
but yeah i personally like the terraria progression approach better for myself but yeah
Yeah, we'll have to see what happens with those restrictions they're adding since there are some rules that have never really been enforced
The thing is they don't moderate the game, everything has to get reported by a player. Most servers use plugins that disable the report button.
Why would Minecraft allow nudity in their game? This game has a huge number of children playing it. So obviously, stuff like this wouldn't be allowed.
At least nowadays, the devteam’s actions speak volumes more than the game itself:
- Mojang accounts have been purged as of 19/09/2023, rendering many players’ accounts gone.
- Terraria won Labour of Love in Steam’s Game Awards in 2022 and they responded by dropping arguably their second largest update as thanks

Minecraft’s 3D aspect supports most my creative side, whilst Terraria supports my gaming and researching side.
@@garlicmynuts but thats because skill expression was never really considered in minecraft

Minecraft is enjoyed more in servers (in the long run)
Minecraft’s more about building than killing things, but I agree. Without mods building things is actually kinda meaningless in vanilla Minecraft.
don't forget about the warden arguably the most challenging boss
Microsoft DID buy Minecraft for billions of dollars so they gotta make their money back somehow.

Terarria is better for progression, minecraft is way better for creative expression.
Tbh I wish we got more weapon types in minecraft
So True,They should add stuff like a Spear or Short sword,Just anything to make Combat more Exciting.
I like the idea of Minecraft remaining largely unguided and goalless, open for the player to interpret, but introducing far more things to do that require you to be at certain points in progression, some of which may tie into one another but not all. in an open-ended sandbox, the more variety there is the better, and when it fits, one thing can give you reason to do another, while staying in its general lane of doing as you see fit
yeah it is the reason why minecraft became more popular as in its early days it had no progression
The OG mc players like it as it is simple and open and has no progression
Actually I also like open world games more so my vote goes to minecraft
Althogh I think terraria is also a very good game
You did not mention the building aspect of the game. Although I love taking the game slow, the introduction of corruption during hard mode disrupted my progress, and I had to rush through the game to stop it. I enjoyed building in Terraria as much as I do in Minecraft, but corruption ruined it for me because it destroyed my builds in the blink of an eye.
That is true but there is a lot of things to do like Seal the evil biomes away with cool well built hellevators bridges clentaminators etc
I think the Terraformer should be made obtainable once Plantera is defeated
Journey Mode comes more after Minecraft Education Edition than creative mode.
One key aspect is any item/block in any quantity available from the time you create the world, and the ability to fly; unbound by the limitations that is called 'survival', and with cheats the ability to switch between creative and survival at will.
I've played both Terraria and Minecraft yet despite liking Minecraft better, it was so refreshing hearing a neutral perspective on the topic. Good vid dude
i think another reason minecraft might be more popular it's because it's easier to get started
yeah. you dont need to be very good at the game to enjoy it. you can just build a house, set up a farm, or do whatever simple things you want pretty easy. it means you can get hours of gameplay in the game without even making any significant progress at all.
I can play like 2 hours in terraria a day but not 1 hour in minecraft a day
And the fact that it appeals to most people, Minecraft has at least one thing that appeals to someone.
Terraria has 100s of hours of content if not more and that’s just base game, then there’s mods that add huge amounts content on top of that.
true. minecraft would need around 20 mods to atleast resemble the quantity and quality of terraria's content.
Yeah, the comparison is kinda weird. At the start it made more sense I guess but I guess the two are just linked for some reason
It's probably because they're the two most popular sandbox games ever, so it's natural for people to compare them.

Its just not forced on you as much, and there are multiple paths instead of a single one (that may split and remerge at some parts but is still one path)
Overall Minecraft is more appealing because it may not have set bosses like Terraria, but you can pick a thing to make progress at and make progress on that.
Not lack of progression just because you as a Minecraft noob don't understand intuitively how its progression systems work
This was written by someone with hundreds of hours, probably thousands in BOTH games.
@@Throarbin Well how are you the most powerful you can be if you don't have an easy way to get everything you wish? This is progression IMO
@@fannyboy8294 Well no, because there's nothing for you to overcome. You made thing easier on yourself, yes. But it's all a self-determined goal. Terraria and Minecraft aren't even slightly the same game. They are so different that it's weird to compare them as people do
kids and youtubers. while the reason you gave in your video may be valid, it is far from the most important factor that decided minecraft's success. in my opinion youtubers and kids (just like how it happened with five nights at freddies) are the main reason why minecraft is the best selling game of all time. kids watch the youtuber, the youtuber plays a blocky game, parent sees the blocky game, parent buys the blocky game to their kid. its easy, accesible and runs on anything nowadays.
