Hey, cool! This is my first time seeing Fern, and now I'm excited to see whatever else she may have posted on RUclips. It's always fun to find a new person to be a fan of.
“Moved down south and people started lookjng at me like a dog was barking at them.” This was exactly my experience as a teenager. The first time I opened my mouth in a public place, a random passing stranger went, “OWWWW! ‘ARK AT EE!” And his friend told him to shut up in case I got violent, being Scottish. They were absolutely serious.
The best thing about the Scot accent is you can still hear it with the sound muted. The lips are moved very distinctly Scots. Glaswegian very much so. Signed an Australian
I think she delivered that Cockney accent perfectly. As a matter of fact, I often purchased scented axe heads from assorted countries. I Love Foreign Axe Scents.
I had to look up the term “ Asperger syndrome “ cause I didn’t know what it meant exactly, and then it’s like “oh it’s an older term for autism, “ which relatable since I’m definitely also on the autism spectrum, and it seems like a lot of comedians are on the spectrum, like 4-5 of my favorites who are also pretty big popularity wise that I can readily think of 🤔💭🙂
Aspergers wasn't an older term for autism but a separate condition adjacent to autism. It's now enveloped in the umbrella term Autism Spectrum Disorder alongside countless other conditions so similar that there were countless cases of misdiagnosis and avoidable hardship between them. ASD was a controversial move in ~2013 (published in the American DSM-5 diagnostic tool, but now basically globally adopted) to unify all these conditions into a single entity because they found that many of these conditions were different even amongst those that shared traits, because their triggers, how they're expressed and how they cope with them are all too individual to ignore. Thats why ASD is now the term for all of them; because it acknowledges the need for emphasis on individual limitations, needs and support methods rather than the usual "you have X so you must do Y to alleviate it" process of diagnosis and support. Aspergers was a major inclusion but also the cause of controversy at the time because it had been stigmatised as a "milder autism" in the public eye for so long that many with Aspergers felt attacked or a loss of identity due to the merging. Its mostly been a positive thing but it does come with the issue of being such a wide net that some people inevitable claim to have it because they tick one of the many boxes, or have been exposed to misinformation, and there's a lot of stigma around ASD itself because the consolidation of all these conditions as well as increasing awareness means people less knowledgeable complain that suddenly everyone is saying their autistic, which isnt the case but people will be people. From the POV of autistic poeple, there is a lack of support due to how involved it is to provide support, with post adolescence support in particular basically being non-existent for most. Diagnosed a few years ago. Went a little overboard learning about it ngl ahaha. Its an interesting topic ngl.
@@isaacleach1 - As an Aspie, there is actually a LOT of resistance in our community to this new classification under broader ASD. (And yes, the very notion of an Asperger's "community" is almost self-contradictory, but it exists). Asperger's Syndrome has a number of distinct features that make it distinct from some key features of Autism, eg. we do not exhibit delayed cognitive or speech development, and there seems to be some key genetic markers for the sydrome. Plus we possess normal emotional function, we are just impaired in our ability to (a) communicate it and (b) to understand it in others. On a selfish level, I think my biggest personal objection is about being reclassified as a "disorder".
@@kronksstronkstonks6360 I was diagnosed with Asperger's in 2002 and I remember the change to ASD in the DSM-5 being controversial, I was originally dismissive of the change myself for that same 'loss of identity'... Then someone advised I actually read up on Hans Asperger. Now I'm glad I have the ability not to have to carry that man's name around with me.
Cut to audience, realise it's canned laughter ... STOP IT !! Silence is fine, we don't need to be told how to think. Fern is great, hope to catch her some day.
I enjoy hearing accents of the English dialect. Be it Scottish, Irish, British, American. It just proves how dynamic language can be. No matter the region, the dialect can be understood if just enough patience and time is spent. This, to me, is how you can tell a language is evolving.
I doubt her natural voice is that broad; I think she's putting it on a bit. [edit - Stalintube is deleting my harmless comments, so sorry you have to live without my harmless and informative replies.]
No, it’s how a couple of million people in west & central Scotland speak. The strangeness of it is that it’s only a wee bit adapted-for-public, eg saying “little”. Generations of entertainers and presenters whose job is purely to communicate to other Scottish people have been drilled to speak like Mary Marquis and Kirsty Wark.
I think I've found the most pathetic use of a person's time on this planet, and that's saying something: Attempting to put down people on the internet who happen to like themselves. Imagine the sort of sad and worthless existence someone would need to have in order to spend their waking hours on this planet doing this kind of thing.
Why would you say such a statement? She IS beautiful and attractive. Maybe not to you, but you do not determine the standard of beauty. Please search within yourself. May you find enlightenment.
Her hair is black and her eyes are blue and the Irish have a famous song about pretty women just like her. I bet the one they have about you isn't quite so nice. 😂
She's absolutely beautiful!
I absolutely adore her voice & humor .

ohhh watch the Taskmaster series she was in, fantastic, that's where I first saw her!
Taskmaster is a must-see from start to finish, and every country that has one I have loved to watch, except for ours in the USA! Cheers!
Loved this. She’s awesome!

More of Fern please
Personally I think a Scottish accent is sexy AF 🤷♂️

saw her in the nederlands last year. Recommend.
We had a Scot working for us. When he got excited we had to get a Scottish to English translation book.
Nice to see you Fern funny as fuck girl, happy days 🎉

Boo La La ! 😊
Adoreable
Excellent
"Git in ma belleee!"
aliens seem to have a scottish understanding of beauty haha
OOOOh = She is good. Being pretty AND funny cant be easy, but she got the mix. Gwan Yersel!
Fucking hilarious! American point of view: As I see it, the problem you might have here is drawing Americans like moths to a flame.
I KNEW THE RADAR WAS GOING OFF.
Funny and hot. Nice combo.
why reuploading a part from the full show that is almost a year old ?
From Ireland....this Woman Is A National treasure......so Smart. the type every man Should marry if he gets the Chance....

yea btw I think it's now a bit of an outdated term, where medically ASD is preferred

Thank you for that autistic comment.
Funny lady . I only understood about half of what she said though.
I heard the words “sex,” and “porn.” Other than that I don’t know she is saying, but i could listen to her voice all day (I’m American, duh!)
You changed the color of the logo.
2:00 Looks like I’m Scottish middle class then aye?

Yeah, that's weird.
I mean I was too busy laughing to notice sooo…
I don't think it's canned laughter - maybe watch a little closer 🤔 also, I don't think this chick has the budget for that 😅
You can actually see the audience.
Gavin, has your comment on a different video appeared here by accident?
OLD! But fun
Eh, she's not that old.
He might have meant this clip. I see it was posted a day ago but I swear I've seen this same set and clip before.
It's still funny tho

@@eh1702 Man, that was quick! No, I still think she's trying a bit to be broader than she is, but that's just my opinion, thought I'd say it out loud.
You are fucking joking right!! That's her toning it right down for dumb southerners!
She is very funny - just needs even more confidence and to work on sounding not monotonous.
Did you miss the bit about autism? The monotone is literally part of it.
@SaplingTarot Correct. Performers can work on that. And she has.
Who told you, you was beautiful?
