Glad to know it. I have some like hers & am pleased to hear the explanation. It's why I don't like standing on the edge of a cliff. ("Maybe I'll fly! I mean, who knows"? Brrrr!)
Funnily enough this is not at all a thick Scottish accent. I’d go as far as to say the majority of people in Scotland have thicker accents than this. Definitely outside of Edinburgh.
Iron Mountain I think it’s the same with a lot of accents - the words and the inflections don’t come in the order or at the pitch you expect them to come in a sentence. I think if you lived here even for a couple of weeks, you would have no problem understanding it, because your ear would have adapted to the new register. I used to go to an international school, and I found that every year after the summer holidays I had to relearn how to listen to all the different accents. It usually only took a few days, but it was an illuminating experience.
Is it like this in Ireland or Wales? There's nothing all of North America that comes close to the diversity of accents in the British Isles. Obviously for reasons of being immigration nations, but I as a Canadian can easily understand even the thickest southern accent or anywhere else.
I don't date outside my class because I feel like the posh guy would be frustratingly wimpy. Messed up since I work in an elitist place and when to a "posh" uni in the U.S. (I'm American btw), after talking w/them a feel like punching them in the arm?! Is that just me?
I'm surprised how much I had to pay attention cause the accent was deep, it was like listening to this two rowing guys from Ireland that won a silver medal in the Olympics
Seems like folk have difficulty following her, but she's easy to understand cuz (generally speaking and in my experience) folk in Edinburgh have a relatively slow talking pace compared to some bits in Scotland. Hell, I live in south west Scotland about 40 mile from the border and know folk with thicker accents.
I have those thoughts. Except they’re more like “what if I pushed that little old lady in front of that train?” “DONT push that little old lady in front of that train” “But what if I did? What would happen? What if I somehow lose all control of my body and mind and I unconsciously do it? What if I’ve already done it and I’m just crazy?”
I literally hate that (like the comedian). It’s nothing against you personally, but I see that all the time - really tall guys with tiny women, and I’m a woman who is 6’2”. Like the comedian, it means I’m left with the absolutely tiny men. It’s ridiculous and I think tiny women who hog the super tall guys are being selfish! Sorry!
HerHollyness I’m sorry you feel that way, but I’m not gonna sit here and feel guilty for liking taller men. Besides, to say that short women are “selfish” for “hogging” the tall men, is to also simultaneously condemn those same men for preferring to be with shorter women. Sorry to break it to ya, honey, but it’s a two way street here.
John Matthias Well in that case you'd better be really tall I guess? I've only ever seriously dated guys who weren't tall (I'm 5'8... not crazy tall for a woman but certainly not short) I've never dated anyone taller than that... so I guess there's your answer.
Haha! Well as a man who's occasionally been the shorter one in the relationship, I can say from experience that it doesn't look stupid at all. If you love each other, you just look happy. ☺️
Haze DC Nah, as a British person I can say it's perfectly reasonable to not understand strong accents. Might be because we moved from southern England to a place with a bloody strong accent, but it was still hard to understand for a while!
Haze DC I'd never heard it before because I'd never been to that area of the country, duh. Of course you have to experience something, be around it, and listen to or see it to understand something, that's how you learn it; if you'd never heard of something before, would you then know what it was and understand the second you hear it? No, nitwit. Accents take time to get used to, especially strong ones.
Carrying the torch for Billy Connolly… and not just because she’s Scottish! The delivery and attitude on stage is very similar, with Billy being a little more hectic and chaotic haha.
Humour is subjective. Why would you assume they missed the jokes, rather than they just didn't find them funny? I'm sure there's plenty of comedians you don't find funny, and you wouldn't laugh if you ended up in their audience either.
Do incels find each other by wandering around whining about Amy Schumer until someone whines back at them, like Marco Polo for dorks? Because everybody else just *doesn't listen* to comedy that doesn't work for them and moves on with their life.
I needed closed caption for this so I DNF. I listen to Indian, Middle-Eastern, Filipino, Polish and Latino accents every day at work, but the Scottish is the hardest to decifer even though it's English.
I've always had a question, does all the latinos and spaniards kinda sound the same in english? Because our accents are really diferent in spanish,i would even say there is more diferece between mexican and argentinian than the us/australian.But i mean,I'm from Spain so I dont really know.Anyway muy question is,do we all Sound similar in english?
I have thought well known I have a slight autism for a long flecking time I can really relate to this one.. That intrusive thought thing controls my life.
I love this woman. The intrusive thoughts, hilarious
The intrusive thoughts thing has been done to death to be honest, just one example:

That’s nuts, it’s almost hard to understand...they take english a totally different route over there lol.

Her Scottish accent makes everything funnier! I love her! How did I not know this comedian yet?
I love her. She's brilliant.
Shes great class is everywhere and no one wants to talk about
A great example of how Fern's comedy can be so classy! Fern really cracks me up.

i swear fern brady is one of the funniest comedians of all time. give us a full special please and thanks!!!
Of the last six months or ALL time?

How awkward it must have been for all the short-tall couples 😂😭
Is it weird that I find her absolutely hysterical. Like I am crying right now.
It's not that weird. She makes a living being funny because people think she's funny.
It’s literally the whole point.
She needs a Netflix special ffs
Y'all she ain't that difficult to listening to... like honestly...
Are there people who think this is difficult to understand?
I don't think anyone can't understand her
I can catch 99% of what she's saying. The other 1% I have to playback multiple times.

Both the Irish and Scottish accents are brilliant for comedy. The Samoan english accent is a bit of a scream too.
Thats was a good set 👏😂
The unexpected outbursts of rage sell her comedy for me. Vent so you don't explode.

Great sense of humor. Thank you RUclips recommendations.

"Ah'm Fern BRADY", as her friends say, to her "great delight". (From another set). She's SO funny and aware.
