Most of the time that course (writ150) is a terribly difficult and excruciatingly boring class. However, 10% of the time you can land a really great professor that makes it worthwhile. Wish I could have had her!!!!

I am a graduate of the University of Florida's creative writing program eons ago. I figured out that the professors would give a B to anyone who could write complete sentences and occasionally had a moderately interesting idea. That way, it kept us paying tuition credited to their department, and they were covered if we became famous OR if we sank without a trace. "I gave him a B because I could tell he had great abilities that just needed to be seasoned by life experience he would get later."

When I was in high school, we had to write a fictional story for english class. Requirements were 900 words or more and it would be shared and peer reviewed by the entire class in an open discussion. I wrote a 25 page story about a guy who went home and did it with girlfriend's sister. Interestingly, I was one of the 3, out of 146 students that year to get an A on that project. 🤣🤣

UCSB has tried to downplay its party school image by talking about how many Nobel Prizes its faculty has won, having the police block out-of-towners from attending Halloween, etc., but it's always been known as a big party school Halloween used to get over 70,000 attendees if it fell on a weekend.
