    Dude. I been doing this mess since I was 14 and am 50 now. My son's 98 f150 had me in knots. I could not make it work out. Then I found this video. We both thank you. Your voice was the only one with knowledge in all the web.

    Worked perfect! We tried wiring the factory 16 pin harness for about 4 hours and I managed to get this done in 15 minutes! Saved me so much time and money 👏🏾

    Heay this did help out, and no you're not an idiot. I bought a wiring harness for my 97 f150 xlt, not a lariat but does have the premium sound system, it was odered new that way. I thought i got the wrong harness until I seen this video, now I see what's goin on. Two of the 5 factory connectors go to the amp, and one to the rear CD changer. The other two is for power, illumination, ect, from the radio, and the other one is straight to the speakers... hope you didn't leave any CD's in your player... thanks for this info sir!!

    Thank you for posting this video! I've been trying to figure out why my new stereo doesn't have sound but the stereo is powering on. You answered my problem on my ’99 Lariat F-150, again, Thank you!

    Thanks for posting. I have a 97 XLT with the premium audio system and was trying to find this information. Conveniently I bought the harness for the premium audio. Guess I need to get the regular one now. Thanks again!

    I wasn't sure if I had a factory amplifier on our 1992 Ford Econoline van. I don't have that 16 pin connector, so I don't have the amp! Thank you for this discovery!

    For a 97 Expedition, if you look straight in where the radio goes, there is a harness about as big around as a dime straight in all the way in the back and it looks like it goes up into the top of the dash, take the tape off it and you will expose 4 twisted pairs of wire and a skinny blue wire and 2 or 3 other wires. The 4 twisted pairs are your speaker wires after the amp. Cut only them off as far down as you can and they will reach out so you can strip them easily. Hope this helps as the Expedition does not have the extra connector like in this video.

      Do you have a picture of the connector you are talking about?

    • @unoefxz
      @unoefxz 3 года назад

      @@eddieaguirre2845 not a connector, it is a wire harness that is all wrapped in black electrical tape. You have to cut into it to expose the wires.

    • @eddieaguirre2845
      @eddieaguirre2845 3 года назад

      @@unoefxz alright and are they pairs in color or are they all different colors?

    • @unoefxz
      @unoefxz 3 года назад

      @@eddieaguirre2845 pairs that are twisted together. to figure out which goes to what speaker, after you cut and strip them, use an AA battery between the wires and "tap" the wire on the battery, you will hear the speaker make a thump.

    I'm installing an Android Head Unit in my 98 F-150 Lariat. I think the best way to modify the sub-dash is to pull it apart like you did. It makes it easy to work with an oscillating multi-tool. Lots of videos on line showing how to take the dash apart without breaking it. Make sure you know how to pull out the light switch or you you will break it. Lots of videos on that as well.

    Ok, this is huge. I only just found out there is an amp to contend with. I only dealt with the wires out of the back of the old stereo, the power comes on....but no speakers sounds....now I see because the amp needs to be be bypassed

    I realize this video is a few years old, but if by chance you still check comments I was wondering if bypassing the amp affected the speakers? I'm repairing a poorly installed aftermarket radio and I see that the small, black, 16-pin connector coming from the amp involves the speakers.

    • @auburf89
      @auburf89  2 года назад

      Not sure I fully understand your question, but unless there's an aftermarket amp with way too many watts it's not going to damage the speakers. The purpose of this is so you get the benefit of having a modern amplifier directly connected to the speakers (almost any head unit will sound better than the oem amp).

    So, if the older Ford/Lincoln/Mercury etc doesn't has the square 16 pin plug, but instead has only the gray and black flat connectors, there's no OEM amplifier to worry about bypassing. Noted.

Count wires say something about the design and not used , count wires. Three stuff plugs away grab back. WTH MAN , I figure it out never mind. Geez SMH
