- In this video you will see how a track saw and this custom workbench have made dealing with full sheets of plywood in a limited workspace easy. In fact, it's better than owning a full sized cabinet saw or a wall mounted panel saw like they have at Home depot or Lowes. Thanks to Ron Paulk and Roger Mullers designs on RUclips for inspiration and ideas. I tagged all the people who made helpful videos that inspired this design. Thanks again for the ideas. I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.
Thank you for posting this video. Watching this has solidified my decision that I don't need a panel saw, not even a knockdown one. I'll go with a track saw instead.

I've watched the Ron Paulk video's too. Thinking of building my own kitchen cabinets too and have been checking out options for handling large sheets, as well as cutting options. The Festool track saw looks like a winner.

This setup has been so much better than even the video shows. I should make another video to demonstrate how many other ways the bench has helped me. The popularity of the video just goes to show the fact that this design solves so many problems of limited space. I love it so much. Thanks for the comment. Build one of your own and post a video.! I had seen the EZ system and it does look like a nice setup, but went with Festool in the end and so far a I am very happy with it.
Looks great. I bought my Festool track saw almost 10 yrs ago. Best saw ever, and the same goes for their other machines. I'm going for the Kapex next. If you're concerned about the blades, don't be. I'm a hobby woodworker, but I'm only on my 2nd blade (10 yrs). I take good care of them, and never cut into nails or the like, and the blades lasts a long time, and are very suitable for sharpening.

Great idea. Thanks for sharing your hard work in developing the process. I especially like the modular setup of the extension table with the multiple uses. I don't own a track saw but the table will sure come in handy with my table saw.

Slots were routed in using a template and flush trim router bit. I should make plans based on how popular this concept has been. Thanks for the input and I will consider it currently my day job keeps me plenty busy. Woodworking is my hobby.

i have been thinking about making an out feed come small assembly table for the shop as like you I have limited space. I like the concepts you have incorporated and will use most of them in my design. a long winded way to say I like it lol... oh slippers in the workshop!! tut tut everyone knows you should be bare foot lmao

we use a few sheets of 2" thick styrafoam 4x8' boards on the ground to rip with a track saw, a lot more stable and cheaper than a custom made table. plus it is easier to manage the cords
More than one way to skin a cat as they say. I have seen this approach for sheet goods, but did not want to deal with my larger plywood sheets on the ground my back issues. Thanks for the reply and please post on any woodworking tips you may have.
Great design, I have a Holzher 1065 panel saw and it is big, expensive, and very nice. Not an option for small shops. The festool stuff is awesome

Thanks for the comments. The popularity of this video has been inspiring. I will try to work on getting it drawn up in sketchup so you all can build it. It will take some time. I am currently doing a miter saw station build that takes priority.

I think a track saw with a long guide rail is better than a table-saw.
If you have the room, table saw and track saw. Have used a table saw for over 30 years. Especially for rebate work. Even made complete window stock with just a table saw. Both very versatile.

James, we use the dumb non metric system here in the states so our stock sheets are 4 x 8 ft. I bought the 2700 mm or 106 inch track because I did not like the festool track connectors and love it. The tracks I used in the video are 1400mm or 55 inches each.

It sure is a good saw, and you can even put it a special work bench made by Festool and use it (upside down) as a table saw, a really nifty bit of kit!

Very nice nice setup, though it appears to be a bit inconvenient to set up/break down every time you need it. I'd say it'd be best if you had the space to keep it always readily available. But I see you point, which is an excellent one at that - for the guy with limited space and a low budget - it is a great solution. Your innovation is very commendable!
That being said - cost aside - this setup is fine for your average home garage shop, but in no way can compare to a real shop utilizing either an upright panel saw (not talking about those "cheapie" HD models) or as in our shop: a sliding table saw. A decent used slider can be had for under $3,000 and has much more capabilities, such as repeatable accuracy on repetitive cuts, angle cuts, mitered, crosscut and rips. All in a very safe manner. For those with 1,200 sq. ft or more - a slider is a much better solution. Nevertheless - our Festool track saw does see occasional shop use, though it was really purchased for on site use.

Nice build! I just got a track saw myself and kinda have something similar in mind as I have a very small shop too and I always have to design my shop furniture to be multifunctional as well. You can get a very basic panel saw for around $500 but the track saws they have out are of better quality than those low end panel saws. For the price you have invested in the festool system you could have gotten a fairly decent panel saw actually but you sacrifice a lot of space to do so.

Brackets are made by knape and voght. There is a link in the video description. I thought long and hard about the downdraft idea, but decided against it because I wanted to use the cavity for storage. I'm glad I did. It keeps clutter off the surface.
I love love love your design!!! Fabulous!!! I have been searching for a long time for a way to incorporate Ron Paulk's torsion box/assembly table design with a way to cut down full sheets of plywood without having to get down on my hands and knees and without having to build some sort of 'special' dedicated bench. Your solution hits the nail on the head!!! Perfectly convertible without wasting space. I wish you had the sketch up plans...but from what I can see if I stop motion the vid...I can draw up my own set of plans. Only question I have is how did you maintain the rigidity of the main top/torsion box without having to put in a full center divider? Also, I'm guessing that the top is a laminate of ply and mdf...do I have that right? And what are their respective thicknesses? Thank you so much. You have indeed inspired me.

because i do not always use my tools in the shop i did much the same but used folding saw horse with a 6" top rail and 6 2x4'" by 8' notched the 2x4 s if cut off is to narrow place the sheet on the diagonal saw horse is built so it is low enough so I can get on top of it if can't reach cuts on the 4' cross cuts.

The benchmark is a nice bench, but it's a totally different concept and I want to respond with a pointed comparison, but it just depends on your needs, space and desired shop capability as to which will suit your needs. I have a small well equipped workshop that could not handle a 4x8 sheet plywood. This solved that problem.
I discover that many had problems with the Benchmark and they recommand to not order it... I would like to build mine like yours. Do you have the plan? I don't have a big workshop. Thanks

Are you cutting into the lattice top for any angled cuts where the cut line cant be outside the lattice? Just wondering if you think of the lattice as sacrificial

Someone is going to lose a finger or hand working a table saw without a push stick like you just did. I realize you have a Saw Stop, but most don't. I really like your workbench idea though. Seems brilliant. I'd like to make something like this. Preferrably, a hybrid of this and a more substantial bench like a Roubo.

what size is your stock plywood board,?I have the 2400mm track and i find it needs about 6 inch extra to make clean cut all way .Our stock boards are 2420mm x1220mm.here in Australia

The dimensions of the table surface are 5 ft length and 25 inch width. But you can make it any way you like. And Mike I appreciate the comment, but I'm too lazy to make plans. I just wanted to put the concept out there.
