Hell of a rifle, extremely reliable, it has served very well my country's armed forces here in Colombia.
Saw it in Narcos
Galil's first real combat proving was in the jungles of Nicaragua, as the Nicaraguan National Guard adopted it as its standard issue weapon in 1974. It proved more reliable than the Sandinista's
ex-Cuban FALs...exactly how the Israelis had hoped. From there, the Guatemalans, Colombians, Peruvians and South Africans adopted it.
@Sean Reed its just as reliable but more accurate. The ak is not the alpha and omega of rifles... Sloppy build, less accuracy and sharp edges/points do not attract professional armies that clean their weapons every day.
@Sean Reed Same as Gil Oro, same reliability with more accuracy, a bit lighter, and more stable due to the tubular and straight buttstock. I will also add that the 223 ammo has less stopping power than the 7,62x39 of the AK but it has a longer range.
Served me well too in Estonian Defense Force, although we used Galil AR
The South African R4 and R5 what a masterpiece
When I was in the South African army, this was our rifle as the R4. Still a favourite to look at.
R5 85/86 Coin ops Ondangwa SWA
R5
R4 has longer barrel plus bipod.
Its still used to this day. Even in the police department
We fired 1000's of rounds from this awesome rifle in South African defense force !!! 1992 !! Not sure what the current clowns use , I can only imagine it's the exact same weapons from my Era 😂
Hey Larry we think about you in these difficult times every day! You are not forgotten.
Absolutely beast of a weapon, been in service of our police, army and coast guard (Trinidad and Tobago) for decades. Super reliable, easy to maintain and shoot. One of the best AK variants...
Not bad men seeking there interest👏🏿👏🏿
In SA we call it R5, it's so accurate 👌
Used this on the paratrooper regiment here in Portugal before we changed to the SCAR...thanks for the video Vickers, brought back so many memories...this weapon, even in the worst conditions, full of mud and rain water..has never failed me once. Definitly an impressive piece of kit
I know this is an old comment so who know if you'll even see it, but which of the two do you like better?
I only briefly used the SCAR-L as i left shortly after but i mean.. You can´t really compare the two. The Scar is much more modular and can fit many acessories that you can´t with the Galil. We had some "cool" RIS rails for the galils at one point but holding the zero was questionable after a few hits. I really like the Galil but its just old in comparison. @@codyi7102
Always liked the Galil, the Israeli AK.
Fuck isreal though
@@honiahakaa fuck Arab world though
Guys, peace. We all love guns here no matter our side in conflict, let's leave it at that.
the unstoppable you and israss
@[ Karhu ] i think it is more proper to call it "the israeli ak" since both galil and finnish rk are variants of ak.
One of my favorite all time rifles! Running like a sowing machine! Great weapon. Thank you for everything you do LAV! ✌
You had me at Galil
They got some SWEET pieces man
Watching all of Larry's old videos
Probably my favorite thing is seeing Larry fire a sustained burst with amazing shot placement. This man is a god of recoil control.
I always thought the SAR was the best looking of the models.
I had one of these (Glilon) when I was in the Israeli artillery corp back in '93, loved it. Never shot it on automatic, as that was a punishable offense. Guys would bang the stock closed by banging it on their upper arm. I had a trick where I would put a hidden roll of toilet paper under my hat and bang the stock closed on my head. My commanders thought I was crazy to do that, got me some respect.
are you israeli
The slow motion footage shows how the SAR is much more rigidly constructed when compared with an AK. Fascinating!
Wien1938 that’s because its using a milled receiver. Had it been stamped, you would have seen the flex.
Well, that slow-motion never gets old you the Man Larry - Delta. 👏👏👏👏👍
Finally! There are so few videos on this variant. It might be the only select fire SAR on RUclips. The SAR is one of my favorite assault rifles of all time, top 3 for sure.
Check out the Carnik Con AK special if you haven’t already.
Got my copy of volume two coming, awesome to hear this will be in there!
This gun is just precious.
I own one of these. The semi-auto civilian version named the LM-5. Just love it. I have been shooting service rifle competitions with it for years before getting the Galik ARM. Just great fun to shoot and as a soldier in the field you have the AK reliability in an Israeli-improved design.
I used to own an LM4...great fun at the range!
The South African made version, the R4 is what I used in 92 when I was in the army. Still love this weapon.
I could listen to that full auto sound all day. Nice video! thank you.
Love your Vids Mr Vickers! Big THANK YOU for your work. 👍👍👍👍
In the IDF it was called "Glilon" (meaning short Galil) - it was issued especially to tank and artillery crewman. back in the day, troops used to install on the top of the charging handle a rubber insolation sleeve off of an old military wiring harness - for better grip, it worked great.
I have a Gen2 7.62x39 pistol and love it. It’s a very well made tool and just runs no matter what you run through it, steel case, brass, HP, FMJ it just runs. I’d love to have this one here but I’d settle for Gen1 or 2 in 556 and especially in 5.45
Bigdaddyunlimited is selling a limited batch right now for $1900 in 556. Come with Israeli defense force markings. Says only 40 were made
My favorite! Thanks LAV
Always love it I'll never be bored of it
My service rifle!! It's been more than a decade since the last time I held and fired one! Great video!
I love this gun! and that's why I use it every time possible
Thank you Larry for covering these weapons. And THANK YOU to your sound man who FINALLY started to match the sound to the actually firing cadence...just sayin'
Hardly any muzzle rise, especially on full auto! That's impressive!!👍
I built a Galil on a Nicaraguan parts kit. Galil SAR. Excellent rifle.
I'm always excited to see you post a new video. Best firearm video on RUclips. 👍👍👌
*LOVE* that rifle!
Love this rifle...when we got to visit RSA I got to shoot a semi Vektor R5 rifle...lots of fun and no jams!!
Great clip Larry 👍
Interesting gun. Remained pretty stable during full auto.
Gorgeous rifle!
Great gun! Excellent, Larry!!
Just a gorgeous rifle
iconic in the colombian armored forces , especially in the Colombian army since 90´s in the colombian conflict
One of the greats. In my top 10 favorites I've shot.
Just picked up ATi Galil clone. Loving it.
Sounds amazing
This is a nice rifle. Looks really easy to use and operate.
Had the first edition of the Galil in the first Lebanon war, back then in 85.
Very reliable.
The only gun channel with best cameraworks 👌🏼
This is my fav rifle hands down
This one and the ace are amazing guns, they serve well in my country Mexico
That SAR is awesome. The Micro Galil is a nice little gun too.
Served our mandatory service for 11moths. With this gun. Alot of them had the fieringpin snapp but its understandable. The amount of blanks and live ammo put trought thees things is insane. Mine went till the end😁
Ajateenijad kasutavad ju Galil AR-i ju, mitte SAR-i. Sar on rohkem scoutside teema
@@pewpew4950 Vahipatis on nii AR-id kui SAR-id. Minule sattus SAR
Sadly to this day, these rifles have long surpassed their effective lifetime, possibly several times. About time to replace them, really.
Wait, are those gun sounds for real? I mean they kind of sound "fake" or "TV like" to me.
From what I am guessing, it is recorded and modified to sound distinguishable
Definitely added afterwards, you can't even hear the impacts on the metal at ruclips.net/video/BozDTQr_st8/видео.html It's like from a cheap video game. No idea why they went with it.
I got one & it’s about the same noise of a ak lol so ya it’s loud
Veikee lmaooo
Used this exact type of galil in the military... sound in this video is fake and it's nothing like the real one
Very manageable muzzle climb or Larry just excellent at taming the beast.
Hot damn! That was awesome!!!!
in israel it’s commonly referred to as “glilon” “on” in hebrew is a diminishing suffix, like for kids. my service weapon for a while. greatly loved, will survive apocalypse. miss mine plenty. thanks for the video- it brought back some great memories.
גם אני. שריון
In 1980's the Guatemalan army asked IMI to make the SAR semiautomatic. So Isreal gave Guatemala License to build it. So in Guatemala is call de Galil KEL.
This is exactly what I had in the IDF. I loved it. I wished IMI still made them.
This may sound ridiculous but... the power at which that rifle expels casings... I appreciate that.
Looks exactly like the SAR that I have! 1:12 twist means it loves XM193. I have a MAR as well, but that one rocks a 1:7 twist.
I've alway that the Galil was an interesting weapon. In this configuration it looks just as effective as our M4 in a close corner combat situation.
Was issued the Galil SAR for my service @ the IDF . Loved it ! Almost a sidearm in the way it was there but not cumbersome or in the way of vehicle mounted operations. Used a Ak forward grip for "cool factor" or a wooden Galil grip with a 10 round short mag for quick access.
@Meyer Mica See this wikipedia link to see where the Galil was issued and manufactured. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMI_Galil
@Meyer Mica yes...Made in INDUMIL, Colombia.
This has been my dream rifle since reading the Guardians novel by Jack Austin in the mid 80s.
I just got my hands on the American Tactical Inc Galeo 13” pistol; basically a stock-less SAR, like this one.
Is a beautiful weapon.
I love the Galil in COUNTER STRIKE. It was my go to weapon in the game.
Nicely Done!!!
Portuguese Paras still use them today, although they are being phased out in favor of the recently adopted SCAR-L by all branches of the Army (except SF).
That is the best looking galil!
My god, it's beautiful!
Felicitaciones que buena arma!!
That firefight in district 13 was badass
Galil ARM is the most beautiful Galil rifle.
I wish someone would make a true galil like how brownells retro line
Look up the ATI Galileo
Avery Drew Galeo* that’s made of kit parts
Maybe a cheapo gun, but if you can find a Century Arms Golani Sporter that's not a lemon, it's perfect.
Look up ati galil it is a new manufacturer making galils from parts kits
Love the Glilon! Mine has a standard FH unlike the Comp shown in the vid.
This is an excellent weapon
South african r4 is my favourite rifle. My dad used it when he was in the army. They are still used by the SADF and r5 variant is used by the police
This reminds me off my SBV days.
R5 my EDC for 5 years 20k ish rounds over 4 years as an SADF competition 3 gun shooter ... not one stoppage ...heavy but rock solid... mass assisted muzzle control with full auto for air crew PDW options.
Carried by this contributor in support and combat operations in '97/'98 (עזה ודרום לבנון). Never failed to go "bang" when the trigger was pulled, unlike the older M-16s and variants found in accompanying units. To be fair, some of those M-16's were pretty old and beat to hell but carrying the "Glilon" in-theatre was very reassuring.
!כל הכבוד לצה"ל
Greetings brother. Wish I had had this rifle back in Vietnam times instead of an early M-16 model. Glad you posted this video on youtube. This is also MY favorite Galil model. Of course this may not even have existed back in 1969. Don't know.
When the Galil entered (limited) IDF service back in 1974, Vietnam was already over. Very few of these rifles had been issued, mostly to well-connected, high ranking officers, before and during the Yom Kippur War in Oct. 1973. It was in service with elite infantry brigades for the 1978 "Operation Litani" against the PLO in South Lebanon. It worked!
Galil is one of my favorite gun in ak families
Great video you made, another thumb up 👍👍👍
I just watched District 9 about a month ago and there is an R5 that you see a little bit but the one that is shown prominently in many scenes was actually an R6.
The R6 is identical to the R5 except it has an 11" barrel. This size of Galil was unique to South Africa.
Nice bit of swag... good video
I love that rapid fire sound
I'd love to get my hands on a classic galil rifle
Became a fan of Galils after watching Benicio del Toro use one in The Way Of The Gun. You need to make a Larry at the movies of the shootouts in this movie if you haven’t done so already
the Galil is so cool man
Really like it
being in service in the army of Colombia, I went into combat many times with this great rifle
Against who?
@@danlugo4365 Probably FARC or ELN.
@@danlugo4365 Almost all the fights I was in were with the FARC only one occasion against the ELN
pretty crazy you saw combat, was that as a conscript or a professional soldier?
Tremenda máquina! 👍🏻
Excelente Arma, junto con el Valtmet.
Awesome you guys are lucky down there
Dammmmm! That rifle runs like a Swiss watch!
Those double taps man
Amazing
Love this gun. I might get a pistol version from Atlantic firearms
Michael Srite www.atlanticfirearms.com/products/iwi-galil-ace-gap51sb-7-62nato-pistol-with-stabilizing-brace says its in stock
Another company is making them. ATI I believe
Hope you get the 1911 book back in so i can buy one.
thanks LAV
love this weapon. whats going on with the dubbed gunshots?...
Now that is freakin awesome!!!! 😎😎😎
Oh shxxxt so nice thanks always
