It's hard not to love the FN FAL once you use it in service . For me is the 7.62 NATO rifle gold standard. I used it through my early career ('90's) in the Greek Forces (FN FAL Para was the issued rifle in Greek Special Forces , the Marine Brigade and some border battalions from early 70's till the late 90's), and I believe it is still far superior to the HK G3 that regular army units still use ... Now , only a few years away from my retirement I still remember with fondness the FN para (and the occasional FALO) I used to carry in Long Range Reccon Patrols back in time ....

@@Tool683 The Ak203 deal has hit a bump. Some pricing issues and apparently, the rifles are a bit downgraded or something. I think Ak203 is unnecessary. For the frontline troops and for anti terror operations, if a bigger calibre is required then we can fulfil that requirement with the Sig716 rifles. Additional 72000 rifles have already been ordered which takes the total count to around 150,000. The rest of the troops should keep using 5.56 rounds. I mean 7.62 rounds have greater stopping power but the recoil and weight is much more. Improved variants of INSAS or some other indigenously developed weapons like the ones from SSS Defence can be used. I don't understand why entire army is sort of switching to 7.62 calibre. There should also be uniformity. If we use Ak203, we'd be using two different 7.62 ammos. Sig716 uses 7.62 NATO and Ak203 is 7.62 Soviet. Using 7.62 NATO for front line troops should suffice. The rest can use 5.56 NATO. Indian Army procurement is weird. Complete disregard for logistics or uniformity

After Sandy Hook incident, the state Assault Rifle ban took effect the state audited the FFL inventory and conficiated all ban Assaults' rifle including FAL, L1A , AR-15 surplus (semi auto) and make it a felony to owned any pre and post ban unregistered assault rifle. As to the comments that most FAL nations dispensed with the mag charger body cover and wooden furniture, Canada (the first country to select the FAL outside of Belgium) retained both the mag charger cover and wooden furniture through the rifle's approximately 30 years of use (1958 - 1988). So it obviously has to be dubbed. He said there was a few videos to be shown that were done the old way of laying sounds over the video. Pretty much identical to the FN manufactured British Army trials X8E1 rifle in the mid 1950s with the charger guide dust cover. In my old job I was fortunate enough to carry out Mandatory Equipment Inspections on three such rifles in addition to a number of production L1A1 SLRs. There was an alternative X8 dust cover that had an optical sight of the same design fitted to the EM2 (No.9 Mk.1) rifle that was briefly adopted prior to the selection of 7.62mm as the NATO standard cartridge.

FAL rifles are still heavily used here in the lower part of south America. its a daily carry for Brazil Argentina and Uruguay military. Im from Uruguay but now live in Brazil, here in Rio de Janeiro its a common thing to see the police carryng the long FAL, i always thing its a overkill Rifle to use in such a densely populated city.

Apart from the lack of flash reducer and the sights it looks identical to the C1 we used in the Canadian military in the late 70s.

A lot of people say the fal is superior than the m14. I'd like to know what the reasoning is behind that other than the bolt being exposed. To me the bolt being exposed is a plus, easier to clear obstructions. If that is the only differential between the two systems I call bull from a practicality and personal experience standpoint. Feel free to "school" me.
