Personally, I find the design of the FAMAS being one of my favorites. It's immediately recognizable, and gives me that same feeling I get when I look at a P90 or an AUG. The gun just looks sleek. I love the look of bullpups.
I'm an American who served 5 yrs in the French Foreign Legion (full disclosure, I was a tuba player in the band, not kicking in doors in Afghanistan. But, I still got a lot of trigger time with the F1). We were trained first to disengage the safety to semi-auto in a quick, fluid motion with the left (non-dominant) hand. It can be done very quickly with training. To disengage the safety with the same motion as pulling the trigger (right hand) was taught to us as an "Oh Merde!! Les bad guys!!!" response. I love this gun. Wish they were easier to find in the US.
I'm sorry for the questions. But from what I've read the French Foreign Legion (FFL) is not an elite army is that true? I have read that they mostly clean and do janitorial type shit with little shooting. What is your opinion on this? I also read that most of the volunteers are from third world countries but not all, so Westerners have it tougher because the FFL is like a 3rd world army. But what I really want to know is would you recommend the FFL to other Americans? Ohh and did you get your french citizen ship after the first 5 years?
@@357stoitch7 take what I say with a grain of salt. I never served with the FFL. The FFL is just like any other infantry regiment, but with more restrictions/luxuries afforded to the regular french military. All infantry (even the us military) enlisted will have duties not related to combat or training. These can include tasks you mentioned. It is true there is a large amount of members from 3rd world countries. I wouldn’t agree that it is a 3rd world army though. It’s a bad existence, but if the FFL is what you want, go for it. Again, I never served FFL
Its also part of the French Felin infantry combat system, the only operational combat system in the world and its smart scope is attached to all the other squad soldiers. www.israelifirepower.com/2019/06/18/felin-french-infantry-combat-system-france-battle-management-system/
I am an alpine hunter in the French army and I use the famas. you make a good presentation of this weapon. it is not a modern weapon like the ar15 platform but its usage characteristics are impressive! very balanced from the pistol grip, low recoil, high accuracy up to 400m and increased rate of fire. a nice tool!
I had the pleasure of qualifying on the F1 with the French Army during a joint training exercise. This thing is insanely user friendly, comfortable to hold on target for a long time, and an overall great weapon. On top of that, their gigantic range was really well set up compared to ours.
I love this gun. I was in a German/French batalion in my Bundesweh time. So i also was trained on the FAMAS. Im a lil bit a smaller dude 1,65. In compare tho the G3 and G36 this is awesome fo a small dude. The recoil is so nice that it kinda brings it back to center. Especial if u use triple round. Extreme easy and accurate to shoot for non experienced shooters.
Sneaky Cactus You need to reload and the theoric rpm is not calculated with this step I know what I said I learnt that in the French Army they are the best to know how this gun works you agree :)
Literally ZERO deviation when firing! Precise AF! Rainbow Six Vegas, When ALL the BOSS Level AI are naturally using your favorite weapon, you know it's the G.O.A.T
I'm French, I used it in the army in 1997/1998. It was a too complicated system, lots of little parts / springs / pins you could loose if you had to do a field strip. Magazines were crap. Its redeeming quality was that it was very accurate. I always thought it would be a better police rifle than an army one (I don't think it would function well in mud). It was not totally replaced by the FAMAS G2 (and not F2), only the French marine uses the G2. Now it's supposed to be replaced by the HK 416, but all the soldiers I see are still carrying the F1.
Same here. They invented smokeless powder ffs. How could any gun guy not appreciate French arms development? One day I hope to get to own a FAMAS, one way or another. Hopefully we get parts kits one day.
After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!
Thanks Larry for your review. As a French military officer and shooting instructor I'm very happy to see that you took the time to take a closer look on our rifle. I'd like to mention to the people, dangerously stubborn, that comments some unrelated shit without knowing, that this rifle has been the first developed of its kind and for the early prototypes even before your M16... and has been a great rifle for many years and has been successful in many operations. Remember that this rifle has been adopted at the same time that you guys adopted the first M16 except that we haven't found the need to do multiple changes since then because the FAMAS was already working perfectly in its first configuration. The bullpup design helps us greatly in urban combat and it is a pretty reliable gun if you use the correct mags. Here is the problem : the mags has been created for being disposable so aren't that robust... but you know governments are always trying to cut the cost so they decided to ask the soldiers to keep their mags and reload... bad choice... this is why they get malfunctions. This year we decided to move to the HK416 and the only reason is that we need more interoperability with the NATO forces, the advantage of the customization of the "lego" and also it was cheaper that some other bullpup manufactures. Great Job Larry and thanks to share with our shooting community your knowledge with such good videos!
"Remember that this rifle has been adopted at the same time that you guys adopted the first M16 except that we haven't found the need to do multiple changes since then because the FAMAS was already working perfectly in its first configuration." ...What... ???????????? The M16 was adopted during the vietnam war in 1963. In 1967 it was the official assault rifle of both the marines, us air force and us army. The Famas was only on the drawing board in 1967. Its final configuration was adopted in 1977. Production began in 1978 for the F1A and 1981 for the F1B just in time for the war in Lebanon. The mas 54 isn't the ancestor of the Famas just because it's a bullpup. The Famas F1 is full of bullshit. The G2 too. AR15 compatible magwell should have been a thing from the beggining. Reciprocating charging handle is shit, bad controls (selector under the stock wtf), mushy trigger, no support to affix optics, not a lot of room for modularity... On a firing range it's surely a great gun. In war times, not so much. And I sincerely doubt you're a shooting instructor... If so, then god help young recruits, with the amount of bs you're spewing in this comment. How do you explain to them the point of the straight 25 rounds mags and steel case 5.56 is the 1100 rounds per minute firing rate, when full auto fire is forbidden and 3 rounds burst not taught anymore in ISTC (french for "instruction on combat shooting") then ??? Please go back to airsoft...
Although I agree with you about the fact the FAMAS was adopted way after the M-16 for the US. Some of your points are debatable too. "FAMAS-F1 full of bullshit" ? By nowadays standards, maybe it isn't that great, but at the times it was quite an innovative rifle. And even if the FAMAS have some flaws (magazines, 1.12 twist barrels) , it is still a viable rifle with slick features like floating barrel, night sights, totally ambidextrous, a very simple action . "bullshit would suit the L85a1 (first version) not the FAMAS. "AR15 compatible magwell should have been a thing from the beginning" I'd say it's true, but at the time of it's development AR-15 mag STANAG wasn't the thing it is today, also part of the development took place at a period of the history when De Gaulle's policy wasn't NATO compliant. "Reciprocating charging handle is shit" a bold statement, it may not suit some shooters, but there's plenty of reciprocating charging weapons (e.g. FN FNC, AK, FN SCAR, GALIL etc...) which are great weapons. Plus in the FAMAS, the charging handle is protected by the carry handle. "Selector under the stock WTF" it's not the main selector, you don't need to alternate from full auto to 3 round burst in an emergency situation. "Mushy trigger" you are right about this, the trigger is kinda bad "No support to affix optics" "not a lot of room for modularity" In the 70's 80's we were not in the "tactical sights and picatinny" mindset. And mounts for rails were added later. Like said before, the FAMAS aged badly, because french didn't pursued it's development according to small arms evolution. The MAS factories closed, thus there was no possibilities to re-issue a updated modern version.
H3x4r35 You should speak with more respect. You are exactly the stereotype that I was talking about. You just sound ridiculous. I won't even waist my time answering to someone like you who has such anger and gets its "information" on random websites or idk where... but if you cool down and want to talk normally then yes I would be happy to have a real conversation, share and explain to you my experience with this rifle. If you ever had one with it, I will be happy to discuss that with you. Now if you have nothing else to say than bullshit please stop polluting the convo, thank you.
That is called visual representation through sound to give you a more immersive experience of a visual following with a sound. Which is a common trick in the cinema industry to keep yourself more entertained. Otherwise, it would be a bit boring.
@@homelessstudio7960 Quite ... Listen, or talk to, any sword expert, and their main pet peeve, above all others, is that 'schWINnggg' sound effect. That is the sound of metal against metal, which on the inside of every single scabbards made, doesn't exist, as such scraping every time you unsheath your sword (behave, you ...), will inevitably result in it being blunted, meaning yet more time spent honing the edge. Normally when you unsheath a 'live' (read sharp) blade, you hardly hear a sound ... but, as you said, that would be rather boring ... And yes, some scabbards did have metal ornamentation, but only were there would be zero contact with the blade.
True fact: All FAMAS rifles are made from repurposed knightly weapons and armor, and imbued with the souls of French Knights of medieval provenance so that these weapons and warriors may still serve their nation. French generals upon promotion are given a sidearm made from the weapons of Gauls who opposed the Romans in battle. Many Free French units in WWII likewise used such weapons when fighting the Italians. Look it up, it's true, and it's why the FAMAS sounds like an unsheathing sword every time it's fired.
The FAMAS is one of the best assault rifle. I used it for 6 years in the military. it was pretty good firing. The only few drawback was his tube ( canon ), the multiple small pieces and the cleaning.
I used the Famas F1 infantry for 11 years and it never failed in its mission (jungle, desert, northern France and this negative temperature) its only problem: its chargers which have fragile lips and which causes double introduction of cartridges in chambers but if the chargers are in good condition, you can do what you want with them. I love this platform and this bullbup should be reviewed and relaunched (and I think it will be) thank you Larry for this video
@@_gamepoint_ Well, we closed our last weapon's manufacture... Add european politics in the mix, and now we're transitionnig to a "traditional design" german rifle... I have nothing against Germany, far from it, but it stings to see a world reputed rifle replaced by a cheaper AR...
Love that gun, used it for 5 years and still up to today I think it's a great gun. Edit: I hope that people understand that this opinion is based on taking care of your gun and use things the proper way. Sure, like any gun there can be malfunction, either ammo related, wear and tear etc. But I have today over 30 yrs in the military service and I still wouldn't mind using the FAMAS.

For the US/UK, I was telling to french people who are proud of their FAMAS to like the video. Thanks you Larry to have made this review and your videos are the best ;) Ps: sorry if the traduction is wrong but I don't speak english every day X) Ps n°2: F.A.M.A.S= Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de St- Étienne (assault rifle of the St- Étienne weapons factory)
One of my favorite guns I’ve fired, I’m surprised you didn’t mention how fast the RPM the gun has , was the first French gun I’ve fired and was left very impressed by how it handles .
I used the Famas as a conscript. It was deadly accurate. You could not miss a target less than 300 meters away. Between 300m and 400m, a bit less easy, but still easy. I tried 600m but that was too difficult. Also the recoil was near non-existant.
I fell in love with this gun because of Metal Gear Solid 1. Solid Snake blasting enemies with this thing while climbing the stairs of the communication tower was one of the best moments of the game!
Exactly, i even had MGS on my PSP. Then its resemblance to halos assault rifle only made me want it more. Eventually got the Tokyo Marui FAMAS, but thats like gettin a Pontiac Fierowhen you want a Ferrari.
All of the cod fans o o o o this gun this gun , little did they know it’s an OG from back in the MGS 1 days , loved the gun in that game as well an love it now esp on the new COD MOD it is an absolute beast , I think it looks unique too , I love the functionality of it as well.
@@-John-Doe- Yep I learned about the FAMAS 20 years ago in MGS1.... still one of my all time absolutely favourites (games). What an experience it was, especially back in the late 90s
Cool Blaster!!! You are the only RUclipsr I have seen with a full auto Famas! All those old military network connections must have been helpful in acquiring such a piece of history...
Scoatt Everywhere you cant find a full auto now because french government prohibiting french army to sell them they must keep them. but in the future...nobody knows.
@Robin Chessex It's not only because we didn't helped USA to invade Irak. It's because France defends at the U.N. a peacefull resolution and was consequently against US policy. (In fact, it's nearly the all world which was against this invasion ...).
I'm actually a fan of French gun designs, they seem to think outside the box alot with the folding magwells and recessed barrel in case of out of battery detonations( the mat SMG) but I tend to like their designs personally, to bad they won't make anymore demostic designs as of now
I've never fired anything other than a farm shotgun, but after watching a lot of videos, I have to say I am impressed at how steady you are able to hold the gun on auto.
The French Army has decided to replace this aging gun with an HK-416F. I understand that they would replace it. However why not keep a bullpup, a European one, like the FN2000? Budget? Right... France has money for Rafale airplanes, nuclear submarines, atomic bombs, state of the art assault helicopters, and an aircraft carrier, but they cannot afford a decent bullpup... I suspect bureaucrats don't go on the battlefield...

The french military-industrial complex is more focused on precision and high tech weapons than basic field equipment. While the Armée de L'air and the Navy do have some state of the art equipment (Rafale , Charles De Gaulle , A400M) , the Armée de Terre mostly use modernized Cold War Equipment (VAB , Gazelle , FAMAS) with sometimes new equipment (Caesar , Tigre , NH-90 , Leclerc Tank)

Our French politiciens needs to suck germany's dick so they change to the HK even the new version of the FAMAS is awesome it'll be sold to the terrorist i guess
Edgar Valencia bullups are Cheap ? Where are you living cause were i'm'living a steyr Aug is twice an AR price ! Plus they suck ? They're the future in term of weapons.
As an American I really appreciate French firearms. It sucks that only 200 or so of these FAMAS were imported to the U.S. in semiautomatic. Hopefully one day your Army will get rid of older rifles and parts kits can be sent here to America to be built into semiauto for us Americans to be able to appreciate such a fine rifle. 🇫🇷 🇺🇸
@@toki89666 Well first of all, the weapons sales in France is quite restricted, and the army doesn't really want to sell it's weapons to civilians, so FAMAS is a difficult firearm to acquire. But happily for you, they are progressively getting rid of their old FAMAS for newer HK416, so it's maybe possible that one day, we'll see a massive arrival of this beautiful weapon on the civilians market.
@@toki89666 when french army got rid of the MAS 49 they sent them to USA with interdiction to sell them back in France (where they could they have been bought , it's a good weapon and semi automatic , fully automatics are forbidden in France for civilians) so in a decade you will probably have a lot of FAMAS to buy !
Honestly the slo mo edits are *NOT* good, you need to include normal unedited full auto shooting in the video as well, then a follow up with the slo mo edits would be okay.
+Gustavo Folmer wow he got 70 fucking likes, i dont hink you understand that 70 on 700k doesnt mean jack shit, also by the fact that the guy is making a video to talk about the famas, and less to see it in action so what that guy said about he slow mo, wouldnt be good in this video, now maybe you should stfu cos you dont know wtf your talking about.
I was sergent in the army in the 90's, the policy was to use the 3 round burst as default at the time., there is a gauge for the grenade launcher mode 30° and 45° it was easy to calculate distance of a morta grenate, you have also a anti tank direct fire grenate that was able to be able to penetrate 150mm (if I remember well). Ideal for every vehicle that was not a tank.
What you say about the famas security lever is incorrect, as we never ever ever use the full auto/burst mode. When you have the real French army module to use the weapon, with exact precise gestures, it becomes natural to put the lever to 1/semi mode. By the way you have a Famas Infantry handguard (with the device to put a J4 scope on), not the F1 version.
No it is not totally incorrect what my instructor explained us during my military training in the French army is because when you are surprised by enemies fire you want the full auto mod and for a right handed shooter your first reflex is to push the safety to the left. When you need the semi auto mod you have more time to think and it is easy to push the safety to the right. And what was not mention is that every famas is easy to reconfigure to a left handed firearm but it doesn't change the safety if I remember correctly.
I fell in love with the look of this gun when I was young and played metal gear solid. I so wish they had made an exact model for civilian use in the US.
A true fair video... thanks alot ! I've served 7 years in french army, staff sergeant (Infantry team leader, then AMX30B MBT leader then AMX10P 2nd to platoon leader) light infantry (126 RI), Mechanised Infantry (5°RI called Navarre, regiment created in 1494 ;) ) then 16°BCP (Chasseurs, elite infantry, the nearest troops in US army are surely Rangers batalion). This gun was permitting to medium gunner to put 96% of their shoots at 200-300 m (650-1000 ft or 220-330 yard) on the field WITHOUT lunette.
BS. mate. scales of economy. US pumps trillions into war. The empire is crumbling, Oil is running out,Saud and other sandmen are buying like crazy. The T man and his clan getting richer. 5.56mm dont matter what it comes out of.
@@johntruth3713 ...You are right. Same thing when it comes to jet fighters .USA manufacture them by the thousands while the French only by the hundreds
While I was in Afghan our French counterparts had FAMAS F2s, and damn I thought they were so cool! I never got to shoot one though... bummer. Thanks LAV!
As far as I know, French SOP's dictate using the burst mode on the FAMAS (at least for regular mech/light infantry). The top lever for grenades also acts as a gas cutoff.
There are at least now way faster firing assault rifles developed. For Example the AO-63 ( 6000 rpm), AN-94 (1800 rpm), G11 (2100 rpm); even though there is the question if its practical to have this rate of fire in an AR.
Hey Larry, thx so much for your slow-mo pictures. They look great and perfectly illustrate how the FAMAS ammo insertion/extraction mechanism works. Also, you're rock-steady when you shoot. Even in slow-mo, your shoulder doesn't move when you shoot in burst mode. A seasoned shooter!!
I would have been very hesitant about placing my face right above the ejection port a 60,000 psi chamber that is only a delayed blowback with non-recommended copper cartridges. All the more so, in the case of a full auto since you mention yourself that over time the recoil spring might weaken and increase the risk. So the French rifle requires non-standard steel cartridges - say goodbye to the idea of borrowing ammo from an allied country in case of a shortage. Which was the original idea of the NATO 5,56 x 45 standard ammo. Second, the firing pin is subject to more severe wear and tear and must be replaced at about every 3,000 rounds. Since France let its own firearms makers become extinct the manufacture of FAMAS firing pins is a special order and the unit price is about 300 euros (about the same in US dollars). This made the headlines because the French contract price for the replacement HK416 is equivalent to 4 FAMAS firing pins. This is a serious deficiency of French politics - allowing your own firearms manufacturers to fold. This to the point when the French government could not even manage to find someone in France to manufacture the HK416 under licence in the volume needed. Finally, I have had it with the comments section's French bashing. Beginning with the rifle: The French INVENTED SMOKELESS POWDER, not the US. Do I have to explain why smokeless was such a big deal ? The French also did a lot of work on ballistics theory - ever wondered where the word "ogive" came form ? Has anyone who studied US history, the French provided support in the early days of what would become later the USA. Next the "surrender stick" smirk. Easy to judge when your immediate neighbor was not nazi Germany. I laughed when I heard Alex C.'s quip about a measurement system used in countries that did not put a man on the moon. Condemning a country for losing a war though is nasty and mean.
THIS GUY GETS IT AND NO ONE GIVES HIM CREDIT. Classical for the youtube comment section. You can add to the firing pin stories the magazines too have to be refurbished since they are so fragile and were supposed to be expendable. It thus takes 6 refurbished famas magazines to buy a brand new HK416. Bravo to our french politicians. And mind you some of them still have the nerves to criticize the choice of HK, saying it's bad for the non-existent french small arms industry... When the steel bars HK manufactures all of its barrels from, for all of its small arms except a few, is made in France by the Aubert & Duval company since 1970 ! Anyway kudos to you for establishing some facts here.
On top of that, the brits were the first to leave the front in the Battle of France. They jumped in the first boat they found and came back home leaving the french fighting for weeks until they had to surrender. So what is the worse scenario in this case, leaving your allies behind betraying them or fighting until you have to surrender? I let you judge. The french had nowhere to flee, stood their ground a bit until they couldn't. So who are the cowards now?
Scar Lets get real. The US would annihilate N. Korea, they were crushing Vietnam with one hand tied behind their backs by their own politicians, and of course, with help from the trusty Aussies. They only left Vietnam because their politicians betrayed them. They crushed the Iraqi army in a few weeks, then politics screwed them again. And no one has every really tamed Afghanistan. If they didn't care for the civilians' lives, they could do it. This is a Frenchman speaking, as tired as any other of my people of the nonsensical Anglo-American propaganda of french cowardice, most especially because it is simply inaccurate. And following that principle, we must be honest of the American military situations of the past as well. Also, I would not say that they were late to the major European wars of the 20th century, they never had to join early, they had no reason to, they joined to help us/defend their own interests. They're still smarmy pricks tho.
that's becaus emany french politicians are eager to sell away sovereignty and independance for bribes or ideological reasons. Heck, now EU rules wouldn't even allow us to do anything about these kinds of situations if we wante to. We're supposed not to have the government intervene
I was obsessed with this gun in mw2 and black ops 1, and my older brother also uses the famas 24/7 in the new modern warfare. Great gun in the video games
Thanks for this video. The FAMAS is short, usable in every condition, versatile, well balanced, easy to aim and accurate. On the other hand, the maintenance of the gun was not easy and you can't customize it easily. But in the end, a highly respectable assault rifle.
A lot of people like to poopoo French and their weapons, but as Larry said here, it's not a bad firearm, mainly for its era. Now, it's outdated there's better firearms for sure, but the FAMAS is still very unique; the extractor mechanism that is kind of a PITA to disassembly and clean while being outdoor; and beside a poor modularity for both optics, bipods, suppressor in comparison to an AR now, the FAMAS is still a nice and fun gun to shoot. Too bad French gov is stupid and anti-gun for civilians and don't recycle their old FAMAS by selling them to civilians. They can easily be converted to semi by changing the rear mechanism. At a reasonable price, I have no doubt many fans in France and around the world would get one, just for gun... definitely not as a primary gun (I used a FAMAS F1 for many years and I know it well, but I wouldn't use it as my primary rifle today), but as a "let's have some fun at the gun range today" type of gun. Thanks Larry for this video :)
Phil Smith I would love to be able to buy one if we could but weapon legislation here in France do not allow to own a fully functional military grade weapon. You have to have it converted in semi auto only and rechamber in non military caliber
In fact french gunlaws are way more permisive than what you think. No 200$ tax for SBR, no problem to own supressors. The only complain is a max of 12 weapons registered for one person, and mag capacity restricted to 30 round for rifles and 20 for pistols. I tell you, the californians would love to have our gunlaws.
+Tinuraviel At this very moment (things can change in the coming months because of EU), but right now, you don't have to rechamber in a non military caliber under French gun laws. For 5 specific calibers (5.56x45, 5.45x39, 7.62x39, .50BMG and 14.5Russian) you are limited to 12 weapons total... which also include handguns and semi-auto rifle or any caliber. So yes, this is some stupid restrictions, but you can still have a military caliber semi-auto rifles such the FAMAS F1, or AR-15, AK-47, VZ-58, Tavor, Barett, etc... The only problem with the FAMAS is it's very very expensive because it's quite rare and hard to find in the market, either in 5.56/223 or even .222Rem.
+50AEshooter I know French gun laws pretty well; and they're not as "permissive" as you think either. But it also doesn't change the fact that the French gov is stupid to not convert and resell their FAMAS F1 to the civilian market. And it's only because French gov, like pretty much the rest of Europe, are anti-gun period! They're even pushing for a complete ban on any semi-auto rifles, want to have a 7 or 10 rounds limitations, etc... just like California and New-York. And there's absolutely nothing that would stop them to do so since French don't have rock-solid constitution like the US Constitution and Bill of Rights!
I totally agree with that ! Would love to buy a semi-auto FAMAS and take it to the range, I still don't understand why the government doesn't allow it. And to be honest, the fact that I can buy an American or German-made AR easily, but not the French-made one quite pisses me off.
I am designing a game, and I am listening to your slow downs over and over and over. I learned from your videos that there are about 20 different sounds happening within a short amount of time, giving it that signature FAMAS sound.
The F2 doesnt exist, you want to talk about the G2 but still, there is no G2 in the Land forces only in the Marine. Great video but you don't talk about the FAMAS FÉLIN And the FAMAS Valo (enhanced) we are using today on most infantry soldiers regiment.. It has a picannity rail and the FÉLIN has a grip with communication and camera buttons to use with the FIL or FIR FÉLIN Scope.
FAMAS FELIN is RARELY used . I'm french and from military family, I just confirm the truth. Famas Felin is only used for very special operation and not by your average french soldier. Most of the police and french army are using now HK416, UMP 45, G36 and G36C variants

nonetheless the features - though odd - are interesting: usual firing config is semi-auto bursts of 3, left-or-right handed firing, adjustable depth for grenades, standard infantry issue includes a built-in bipod. Not to criticise your response, I just think these features must have made it a success with the troops. BTW, have you ever driven a french car - citroen? I hear they take getting used to but don't know anything about them myself.
Mark Maxwell That is why they later released a « Valorized » version of the famas, which you can put standard scopes/EOTech and lasers on, via a picattiny rail !
The upgraded variants are the G1 and G2, there was no F2 (at least as far as a cursory Google search will tell me) but other than misnaming it the info was spot-on. I didn't know you could reverse the cheek piece to eject the other way, that's neat. Something else you didn't mention about the front selector lever is that part of the reason semi-auto has you pushing it out to the right side of the gun is because the intended method of using rifle grenades with the FAMAS, at least for indirect/area targets, was to turn the rifle so the right side faces downwards, left hand on the grip and the stock braced against the ground, so you could fold out the grenade sight to line up with that.
Wait a minute how is that even an option? You would think the FFL would make everyone fight no matter that
How did you get into that regiment? Did you choose it or did they?

Colgate Smith this is an awesome rifle....the F2 must be even better with the comforming to the nato mags. Wish I had one in my collection!
there is no f2 it's G2 and it's navy only the F1 or famas valorise is the old F1 with a new barrel 7"twist and picat rail on top
"Remember that this rifle has been adopted at the same time that you guys adopted the first M16 except that we haven't found the need to do multiple changes since then because the FAMAS was already working perfectly in its first configuration."
...What...
"Mushy trigger" you are right about this, the trigger is kinda bad
"No support to affix optics" "not a lot of room for modularity" In the 70's 80's we were not in the "tactical sights and picatinny" mindset. And mounts for rails were added later.
Like said before, the FAMAS aged badly, because french didn't pursued it's development according to small arms evolution. The MAS factories closed, thus there was no possibilities to re-issue a updated modern version.

Quite ...
And yes, some scabbards did have metal ornamentation, but only were there would be zero contact with the blade.
nigelft since learned this a few years ago it pisses me off every time I hear the SWINGGGGG when a sword unsheathes
No editing. That’s actually how the FAMAS sounds in real life. 1000 sword unsheathes a minute

I used the Famas as a conscript. It was deadly accurate. You could not miss a target less than 300 meters away. Between 300m and 400m, a bit less easy, but still easy. I tried 600m but that was too difficult. Also the recoil was near non-existant.
Idem (classe 95). Je confirme.

Man, watching a well designed rifle do her job in slow mo like that is a beautiful thing.
Thanks Man, for giving an honest review to this rifle. I'm a french soldier and i have mad respect for you guys in USA ! Subscribed.
This helped me to rank up in CS:GO
I fell in love with the look of this gun when I was young and played metal gear solid.
Although FAMAS has a great precision, only french army used this gun because of its price : you could buy two M16 for one FAMAS.War is money.

I am French and used the famas in my army service in '93, but I know at the range my heart choice weapon is the M16a1
As far as I know, French SOP's dictate using the burst mode on the FAMAS (at least for regular mech/light infantry).
The top lever for grenades also acts as a gas cutoff.
This is a very unique design. Great looking
Instantly recognisable - like the AUG, classic and superb design.
Famas once (or still) have the record of being the fastest firing assault rifle ever build.
There are at least now way faster firing assault rifles developed. For Example the AO-63 ( 6000 rpm), AN-94 (1800 rpm), G11 (2100 rpm); even though there is the question if its practical to have this rate of fire in an AR.
Love the look of these, by far my favourite weapon. Always wished to see one in action. Thanks.
Larry, can you get your hands on the L85 or L86 rifle?
ewww that gun is poopoo
Larry, you said before that you have an L85, could you please do a video of it.... Hope you got your friends at HK to upgrade it to A2 standard....
Freedom Child The A1 version was crap, but the A2 version fixed pretty much all that.
A Vietnamese Gai Thats kraut space magic for ya.
Why would someone do that?
Anyway kudos to you for establishing some facts here.
its fun sometine you feel some tiny hot pinch on your face. that's small peaces of gun powder :p

Thanks for this video. The FAMAS is short, usable in every condition, versatile, well balanced, easy to aim and accurate. On the other hand, the maintenance of the gun was not easy and you can't customize it easily. But in the end, a highly respectable assault rifle.
Get Bling, FMJ, and an AGOC sight, and you're all set.

I don't speak European
Ruski Bot / it’s French and you watch a video for a French assault rifle so stop being insulting and irrespecutful against us, we speak our language between us it’s not meant to be understand we by you. It’s very offending
To me, the FAMAS is really cool and unique. Too bad that it was replaced with the HK416f. Not saying that the HK416f is bad, I also like that gun.
Keep cool.
French still use FAMAS for a long time.
Differents models are existing
The F1 the first...this one.
The G2 for french navy f1 modernized. wich accept ar15 cart ridges
The FELIN the 3rd used by Army
HK 416 F is for some régiments only. This gun is just a Colt M4 modernized in fact.
I prefer Bull pop and FAMAS G2 the best according to me.
The thing that I always found to be interesting about the Famas is it’s rate of fire, which is somewhere around 1,100 rpm. That’s within spitting distance of the MG42’s rate of fire (1,200rpm+). Gnarly!
I always loved this gun and I hate when in games they put it just as burst gun 🙄
In Rainbow 6 Six Siege you get all three modes (Full auto, 3 round burst, and single fire)
Honestly idk, but i like it like a burst.
