    Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! shop.forgottenw...
    Huzzah! I finally have a chance to take a proper full-auto FAMAS F1 out to the range. My conclusions? It's very nice, just like the semiauto civilian model. It has a limited 3-round-burst option for those who need it, but also unrestricted automatic for those with enough practice to use it. The gun really doesn't try to climb at all; the in-line design (like an AR) pushes recoil straight back into the shoulder. The rate of fire is higher than most 5.56mm shoulder rifles, measuring right about 950 rpm on this example. Automatic is of limited practical use from the shoulder, but given the FAMAS' free floated barrel and integral bipod, it is certainly capable of limited supporting type fire from the prone position.
    I may be a bit prejudiced, mais il est un magnifique fusil.

    • @509Gman
      @509Gman 3 года назад +30

      They’re supposed to be shot in short bursts. The reason 3rb sucks is because if you let your finger off the trigger before the burst is complete, your next trigger press will only fire the one or two rounds remaining for the previous trigger press. A full auto gun will let you shoot singles ,if your finger is quick enough or the rate of fire slow enough, without mechanically hiccuping like that.
      Also, in some 3rb triggers like the M16A2/A4 and M4 (not the new A1), the cam for the burst is always actuating, so each trigger pull in semiauto breaks slightly different from the one before and after it. This is a poor design for semiauto precision.

    Wow, thank you for this video, it reminds me a lot of memories, i was a conscript (like of other young french men ) in 1987, i never use a gun, and after a short instruction with the old MAS 49/56, we trained with the FAMAS! As a beginner i've really enjoyed using this gun at the stand! I was in a AA regiment (Hawk anti aircraft missiles), so our infantry training was very basic and not intense, and the instructors focused on semi-auto and 3 shots automatic. Full auto was strictly forbidden (they considered it a waste of ammo and they weren't confident in the conscripts). I've only tried once when i became sergent (Maréchal des Logis in artillery), and it was so cool! . Merci beaucoup Ian!! From Marc (South of France)

      Conscript as well 98/08 at 1er RHP airborne regiment in Tarbes, without any previous experience with a firearm. They had us find our directing eye (mine is the left so despite being right handed, I had to set the rifle as a leftie) shoot at the range at a 50m distance first to tune the aiming device, then 100m and finally 200m. With only that basic aiming I was able to put my 3 bullets in a 10cm circle without being a marksman, I was really impressed with how accurate the rifle was.
      A pain in the ass to clean, except when we had access to the dedicated cleaning room with compressed air tubes. Also, one had to be super careful when disassembling it, there was this tiny spring that could pop and it would take ages to find it, especially on a dark evening in the woods.... memories 🙂

    Very interesting weapon, kind of weird first compare to an AR or AK system but you get used to it and it become really comfortable. I used this F1 version during the basic "soldier training" when I was in the French Navy (the G2 version is quite rare in fact). The system is very surprising, both very rustic but also modern despite its age. The only two flaws I can see are the low modularity of the weapons (the FELIN project was an engineering delirium totally unfit for the field) and the simple sights which is not very readable and open .
    In any case, the French army has finally adopted the AR platform with its HK416 (a nice weapon). But its really a shame to see the end of production and the design of small arms in Saint-Etienne. Always enjoyed your video since years !

Also needs to be protected when we need to hit the deck fast ... depending on the mission, I still prefer the FAMAS on a large spectrum of missions... short space taker, light weight, grenade launcher (anti-personal and anti-tank) can shoot very accurate mortar ballistic style anti-personal Grenades, once one manages to go around all the parameters and within 250m it’s very effective anti-tank grenade rocket style... never ever forget this parameter for anti-tank ammunition fire solution or you will be market for life like me ;) in the nose ..

    Former F.F.A (French Force in Germany), I used a lot of weapons, including the FAMAS, it was a good bulp-up, well balanced, practical, but with some flaws like all weapons.

    The three round burst also has another great bénéfit its that since the famas are quite old, using it in full auto is sometime really hard on the mechanism, whi three round burst usualy dont hurt it as much ,source I was an armory man in the french army til not à long ago and saw many of them old famas get miss treated (funny enough the older the famas version is the stronger it is)
