He said he was the "fill in" 1SG when I went back in June of 2018. The other DS was there when I was as well. With the reception DSs, do they start out at a BCT site then get transferred to the reception battalion or is it assigned to you once you graduate from the DSA?

FT McClellan 1990’s was total control all 17 weeks OSUT . Sensitivity out the window . No such thing . We lost around 20 trainees and the Drills told us back then the differences between their time at Basic and ours . There is way too much coddling and support to make it through today. Everyone can be a winner approach .
Back then it was a complete weeding out process.
    Two VERY Different approaches.
A lot more verbal and physical punishment back then .
Different times I guess . glad I was part of a different ERA .
The things the Drills said to us back then hold even more true for today .
Drill Sgt thank you for conditioning my mind and my body. Please feel free to do so at anytime.

@07:00 as a Drill Instructor I get jealous at what other branches are allowed to do such as simple stuff like this... but when I think about it I know why we aren’t allowed... we’d abuse the hell out of that... just being able to tell the whole platoon to push at just about any given moment... people have no clue how many restraints we have and we still work around it to get discipline ...

Hey dude, good luck out there. I hope you don't mind sharing where you'll be going for training. I myself am an 11B with Airborne on my contract. I graduated OSUT recently as well as I graduated Airborne school about 4 weeks ago. Currently at my unit at FT Bragg, I love being airborne. Look into it if you can. You should have the opportunity to gain an airborne contract while in basic or AIT. I know I kind of got off topic, but goodluck out there. Follow instructions to the very last detail, ATTENTION TO DETAIL is very important as well. Also, do exactly what the DS's say, always call them drill sergeant too. Don't say sir, but you will have those few guys in your training unit that say sir instead of DS. Also, have fun guy!

@@golffoxtrotyankee8441 Graduated Fort Sill almost 6 months ago, currently in AIT as 35N. Best advice I can give you is don't bring to much when you leave for basic; you will literally have to carry everything you bring plus 2 big duffel bags worth of gear.
      - Get good at standing still and being quite for hours.
-First 72 hours of basic training (not reception) are legit hell.
      - Don't quit, I shit you not they always say "The fastest way to leave is to graduate" they're not kidding. You don't leave right away, they start chaptering you AFTER the batch of people you arrived at reception with complete basic training. And it takes time to kick you out after that anyways.
      - Avoid sick call unless you legitimately need it, we had holdovers in basic for up to a YEAR when basic training is only supposed to be 2.5 months.
      - The AIT life is million times better.
      - You will look back say basic training is fucking easy compared to what i'm doing now in the real army.

-They're required to smoke the shit out of you.
-They will yell at you a lot.
-They will give you impossible tasks which you they know you will fail and smoke you accordingly.
-They pt the shit out of you before lights out
-All the videos of basic training with trainees getting yelled at and triple teamed by drill sergeants all yelling at 1 guy are of the first 72 hrs most likely.
-Its just a part of breaking you down and building you back up as a soldiers
On the plus side, it is all literally acting. They do it every battery they get almost word for word. They rehearse what they're going to do etc. i swear.

Much different from '74. At Ft. Leonard Wood we were greeted by regular cadre who were just being pricks.. We did some paper work, got fed, then we saw a drill, whose duty apparently was to do reception center. He explained a few things, and let us get a couple of hours sack time. The next day we met those who would by our drills. The platoon sergeant took us for clothing issue, the section sergeant gave us some rudimentary drill. They were pretty cool, although the platoon sergeant gave me a starey eyeball over my belly (I lost most of it!). As I said, the reception station had its own drills and they held formation three times a day, in between we spent the day with our section drill getting us through in processing, and answer most of our questions. It seemed that reception station was designed to make us eager to get to basic. When we finally got to the company, we met the SDI, and all the others started in on us with push ups and move! move! move!
I understand from watching some of these vids, each platoon has three full time drills. In those days, each platoon had two drills. There were four others, who seemed to be at large, covering for the others when they pulled CQ, SDNCO, or guard duty. Things were different, namely that none of my drills were cute, but the results were the same.

U will wake up, stand and sit around not allowed to talk, and wait for 6 hours for a task that will take at most 5 mins, sleep and repeat again for about a week. TIP GO AROUND OBSTACLES NOT OVER THEM and practice saying Drill Sergeant and Sergeant u dont think its hard till ur nerves get to you.

Now when the USMC recruits get checked in and settled in to the reception barracks within that first 36 to 48 hours, the only thing that receiving drill instructors cannot do to recruits is physically correct/exercise recruits. That’s - and it’s my best guess - because recruits come from every climate in the country, and they need at least one week to acclimate. They still get marched around everywhere, but they don’t get punished until after they are picked up by their training drill instructors.

This is actually a bit more chill than Navy (1999) reception was, although they couldn't PT us until medical cleared us for full duty, so, no being stuck in the push-up position (which is what the Navy called it). Instead, the go-to was having us repeat the same action over and over until we were all heartily sick of it (and some Ricky Recruit would, naturally, still keep getting it wrong...)
That, or getting barked at about the difference between a response of "yes" or "aye-aye", and getting barked at for getting "petty officer" vs "chief" vs "senior chief" wrong. (Yep, we have E-8 RDCs in the Navy, and just to confuse us, they'd make a point of having at least one CPO/SCPO there at reception, both when I did it, and for every other division I saw there. Since I was on medical hold for quite a bit, and the med hold barracks was right by the reception building, I got to see a fair few.)

Tips for losing weight before going to basic?

    • @alexking5504
      @alexking5504 4 года назад

Lil soup Gang adjust your eating habits, drink water, do some sort of cardio for 30 minutes or more, make sure you get sleep, and go to the gym to workout so you can build up some strength and endurance. I would go to the gym especially with the new Army Combat Fitness Test starting to replace the old APFT. They are very different and I would recommend you to do a little research on google or something to help prepare a little before basic so you can pass the pt test and be ready for any punishment the DS dish out

Those basic train biscuits though ❤. Drill sergeants are there to instill discipline. Discipline is instill through repetition. It's why things are done over and over. This includes correctional training. The yelling and everything is designed to keep you under pressure and a heightened level of stress. But in the end, they are responsible NCOs who are there to train, develop, and mentor soldiers. They ultimately want you to succeed in your career.

And would be the guy that fail advance training like Sapper school. Whenever attended a school and didn’t get smoked I felt cheated.
