Most people don’t even use cruise control on the motorway, I wish they did, the traffic would move much more consistently without slowing down up hills and on corners. Even better if it’s adaptive and heaven forbid they keep a safe distance so traffic can merge and keep moving without bogging down. Tesla Autopilot and FSD is a mind blowing technology.
I feel like an idiot, I thought autopilot was a paid feature. I’m probably the wrong person to own a Tesla. But Sam, thanks to your channel I now know.

No. The neural network think is only for fsd. And I'm sorry but Travel Assist is 10 times better to use. Capacitive wheel, very good lane centering, you can correct the car's actions or its postion in the lane without turning everything off and auto lane change works okay. But the adaptive cruise control is super good on it. It's horrible in Teslas.
I also think it's really cool how you not only talk about how good the tech and stuff are but you really show the ways in which it is improving your life and others.

You can always tell when people dont use auto pilot because the car is too far on one side of the lane.

Yes. This is the basic free autopilot that comes with all Teslas. Enhanced Autopilot is essentially the same thing but with a few more tricks. Auto lane change, auto park, summon. It also does auto overtake if lead car is too slow.

I agree. It's a bad name. But it is more than lane assist (which I've used for over 5 years prior to Autopilot). It should be called. "Really really good lane keep assist that learns with a neural network and gets better over time" RRGLKATLWANNAGBOT system.

Do you need to tell tesla where you are going otherwise how would it know which direction to go?
It goes straight lol. Where ever the road is going. If it ends up in a fork, it literally randomly picks (not according to navigation), but if you have FSD beta installed, it'll drive itself as long as you navigate to it.

After watching this video, I confidently used auto pilot outside of highway and the car saw a person walk on a sideway in a 70kmph zone, and it applied the brake thinking he will be crossing the road. Luckily i didn't have anyone behind me. I love autopilot but a lot of improvement needed I guess in terms of suburban driving
You’re right, but when I see a pedestrian close to the road, I disengage. Definitely should keep trying though.
We need FSD here in Au to solve that.

Does the car slow down or abruptly stop when you disable the autopilot feature while on the road? I’d think it slows down but I haven’t tested myself, I’m not sure. Great video by the way and love your kids too 😂
Slows down gradually. Like as if you’ve let go of throttle on one pedal driving.

Mercedes can stop and start change lanes by it’s self when indicated keeps the car in the lane and slows down for cars merging in lanes , furthermore auto changes the speed based on posted speed sign, it even reads road work speed limits and sets the pilot assist speed by itself. Based on that I don’t see how Tesla is much different.
Yeah, it’s exciting to see other automakers beat tesla in some ways. Mercedes has level 3 (which is insane, no eyes on road needed) on only pre-mapped data and turns off and defaults to level 2 drive pilot as soon as it senses something that it isn’t comfortable with (rain). Tesla uses real world AI so it can do full self driving on any street in the US without needing to be mapped out, it goes from point A to B in recent updates without human intervention (auto indicate, auto lane and turns). Mercedes level 2 Drive pilot which it defaults to on unmapped roads needs a lead car or it won’t work. Biggest difference isn’t tech, it’s the price. You can get into a new Tesla for $68k in Australia or pay at least 30k more for Mercedes which won’t have Drive Pilot level 3 enabled here. I’ll try get into a Mercedes and test its current state here on Aussie roads for you guys.
So Auto pilot is like adaptive cruise control with lane keeping assist right? If so, the new mitsubishi outlander can do that too.

When you use autopilot in suburban areas, how do you make a turn if needed? Do you have to cancel autopilot first?
Yeah. Autopilot won't make complete turns. Cancel, turn corner, re-engage autopilot.
I had the exactly same issue on the king George road the same intersection when using the AP.hahaha

lol, yeah I get why it does that. A smidge confusing for a computer. FSD is on a different software stack, so this shouldn't be a problem when that comes.

I’ve only experienced it once on a loaner 2019 model 3 performance. My 2022 model y hasn’t done that yet.
Hey sam, as you live in an apartment, how's the charging? Do you have to charge everyday, is it really like what other people say, like you have to charge very often?
Depends how much you drive and how low you’re willing to go down on battery. Last time I went from 100 to 13% from Sunday to Friday about 380km
Charging at public chargers sucks.
