Thank you for the comment, should we do proper highway testing then? :) While highway driving is the IDEAL use case where autopilot performs the best, it can obviously be engaged and handle various types of roads. Moreover, this video is an attempt at a comparison with Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) which expands the operational design domain far beyond just highways.
@@robotinreallife Something i figured out recently is autopilot or even enhanced ap works very well on any road that has markings, doesn't have to be just highways.
I get it - that looked intense! 😅 But keep in mind, this isn’t the Full Self-Driving (FSD) you see in the U.S. Over there, FSD handles intersections, turns, and tricky roads like a pro. It’s super smooth and way safer than what we have in Europe right now. Here, Autopilot is limited because of strict EU regulations, so it’s not as smart. Once FSD gets approved here, we’ll finally see the full power Tesla drivers in the U.S. already enjoy. Hang in there - big improvements are coming! 🚗💪
As somebody mentioned, in US they have FSD-Beta (v12), which works also for Basic Autopilot. In EU we still on 2-3 years old v11, so even basic autopilot isn't comparable to the US and is lagging in features/performance/safety. What you have missed, is that AP always does slow down when it approaches a turn based on navigation (and it is up to the driver to disengage and take that turn manually), it does not slow for other intersections (if not needed by road curvature).
Are you sure that autopilot behaves like FSD 12+ which means end to end neural nets? I am not so sure about that, could you provide a video where that is demonstrated? Otherwise you're correct that FSD is a completely different architecture and we're still running I would say an even older codebase than v11 in here.
you didnt need to disengage at the 5min mark you just had to reduce the speed. autopilot is just adaptive cruise control it is not FSD. Tesla website it is for use on highways.
Good point! We wanted to demonstrate how quickly or slowly Autopilot would react to the speed limit change and show it on video as one of its shortcomings.
Haha, I totally get it - watching that drive does look like it would raise anyone's blood pressure a bit! 😅 But just to clarify, this isn’t actually Full Self-Driving (FSD) as you’d see in the U.S. This is Tesla’s basic Autopilot, which is more limited, especially in Europe due to regulatory restrictions. @germanturkish1664 nailed it! I have recently traded my Volkswagen ID.4 for a Model Y LR RWD and, in my opinion the basic Autopilot is not better than Travel Assist in European roads, at least concerning to keeping the vehicle centered in the lane. Furthermore, it is frustrating that autopilot disengages every time I change lane, and I have to switch it on again once in the new lane. Travel assist, on the contrary, is paused during the lane change and it resumes by itself once the car is in the new lane.
Seems like a solid choice for now! You're absolutely right it's probably better than the standard Autopilot, we'll have to wait for FSD to get ahead of VW again... how awkward for Tesla :D
This mirror my experience with Autopilot in the UK, my Enhanced Autopilot doesn't offer much more on highways to be honest and is a little sketchy especially on junction exits. I'm also surprised that camera speed control and traffic light stop start is not included with at Autopilot even if it is made additional option in EAP.
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! Camera speed control should work, but so far it doesn't seem capable enough on this old code stack. I guess we'll just have to wait for FSD for a better implementation. But it's looking good, check out my latest video for news around FSD release!
My experience with autopilot as a European is that it does what it promises pretty well. You just need to know what to expect. Autopilot is nothing more than adaptive cruise control and lane assist. It does both of those better than most other cars and is safe as long as you don't abuse it. For speed changes, I find it easier to just scroll the right knob on the steering wheel to manually change the speed. It's not really a huge bother and quick to do since we are already supposed to be as attentive as if we are driving manually.
Hello, interesting video. Personally, I've never tested the FSD, but I have a few comments to make about auto pilot and driver assistance in Europe. First of all, it's high time that speed limits were correctly read by the cameras, because the cartographic data used is too often erroneous, with wrong speeds appearing or disappearing with each update, or others remaining eternally wrong. As far as trajectories are concerned, they're generally good, but at the slightest sharp bend, the car goes much too close to the outside of the curve, with the risk of colliding with an oncoming vehicle. The system detects a lot of non-existent collision risks, which is unbearable in town or on secondary roads without central road markings. The system doesn't handle uneven roads very well, leading to unexpected braking and collision warnings with oncoming vehicles in their lane. In one instance, the car misjudges the edge of the road near a bus stop, and brakes by turning sharply to the right, even though the road is straight! Scary when you're not expecting it. The list is not exhaustive, but all this to say that, at present, auto pilot is only really practical and enjoyable on freeways. On secondary roads, it's often painful and sometimes dangerous. As for safety assistants, they are all too often used unnecessarily or too early, and can make driving unpleasant and stressful. I dream of a simple, old-fashioned cruise control, which I set as I see fit, assuming my responsibility as a driver, because in the end, with all this assistance, it's still me who's in charge!
Hey! Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and detailed comment-this is exactly the kind of feedback that helps spark meaningful conversations around these evolving systems. 🙏 You’re spot on about the speed limits. The camera data sometimes feels like it's living in its own little world, ignoring updates or clinging to outdated info. It’s a weird quirk that really does need ironing out, especially since speed limit accuracy is such a basic safety factor. I’ve noticed those sharp corner issues too-Autopilot tends to ‘hug the edge’ a bit too much for comfort, right? It’s like riding shotgun with someone who just learned how to corner properly and gets a little too close for comfort. Your point about phantom collision warnings is a huge one-especially on those secondary roads without clear markings. Autopilot tends to get super paranoid, braking or swerving when it doesn’t need to, and it makes for a pretty jarring experience. That sudden braking near the bus stop you mentioned is scary-I can imagine how unsettling that must’ve been! I completely agree that right now, Autopilot really shines on highways, but gets easily confused or overly cautious on more complex roads. In town or countryside, it sometimes feels like more of a liability than a help. As for safety assistants, it’s true that while they’re meant to make driving safer, they sometimes feel like an overprotective backseat driver, stressing you out instead of giving you more peace of mind. I love the idea of a 'simple, old-fashioned' cruise control option-where the driver has full control without the AI second-guessing everything. Sometimes, you just want to drive and know it’s your call all the way. Curious, though-if there was one single feature you could fix or improve in Autopilot today, what would it be? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, and thanks again for such a detailed response!
I know exactly what you mean! It’s like the Autopilot has zero tolerance for any car slightly outside the lines, even if it’s barely noticeable. That can make for a pretty jolting experience! Have you noticed any specific situations where it tends to be more sensitive, or is it mostly parked cars? Hopefully, they can fine-tune that sensitivity soon!
Great video! I would ve loved to see the drivers hands position over the wheel at all time and scenarios to see at what point he need to complement the autopilot.
Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed the video! 😊 I totally get it - seeing the driver’s hands would add clarity. Just a heads-up: there’s an animation in the lower left corner that shows every time Autopilot engages or disengages, so you can catch those moments when the driver needs to take over. Hope that helps! 🚗✨
Thanks a lot, I am really glad you came over! New video coming on Monday, be sure to check the second one with roundabouts too :) Greetings back from CZE!
This is not fsd. This is basic autopilot, and he is misusing the system. It is for well marked highways, NOT unmarked country roads. You subscribed to a disingenuous channel.
Hey, I get where you're coming from, and you're right-this is definitely Autopilot, not FSD, and it’s designed for highways. But here’s the thing: we’re intentionally testing Autopilot on challenging roads to push its limits and set a baseline. This way, when FSD finally hits the EU, we’ll have a clear benchmark to see how much it’s improved and whether it can handle the tough situations Autopilot can’t. Think of it as a stress test, not misuse. 😉 Curious though, what’s the biggest improvement you’re hoping to see when FSD drops in the EU?
Great video! In line with my experience here as well (FR country roads). Ideas to include in a next video: * Autopilot nag can be canceled in NA market with the right scrollwheel (one speed notch), but in EU only torque steering. * Autopilot worst enemy: roundabouts
Greetings to France from the Czech Republic! Thank you so much for your comment and praise! Regarding your first idea, wow, I did not know that, interesting... Roundabouts are definitely on the menu in future tests. The ultimate goal is of course FSD testing once it is available in here :)
You can always see the speed on the screen (as demonstrated in the video) and you can also manually adjust by scrolling the right steering wheel button up or down :)
Funny how people blame fault of FSD on EU regulations, meanwhile the TACC is just as bad. Now That's not EU-regulated and horrible bad after the "Vision" downgrade 2 year ago. Braking for bicycles outside the road, shadows on the road, oncoming vehicles when they start to show in a turn, slowing down after th joke of a downgrade where it will slow down towards junctions. Its Tesla overengineering a car with amputated hardware and lack of engineering resources for Europe while throwing flawed unfinished pre-beta software in our cars no matter the daily price for the owners.
I have almost no phantom braking since they switched into the Vision-only. The difference is that FSD (Beta) in US is almost entirely neural networks and also basic autopilot in US works on that neural stack. However here in EU autopilot still works on the old code base, so we have like 2-3 years old software when it comes to Autopilot. So when Tesla switches EU to FSD Beta, also the basic autopilot will get much better.
@@Marki555 Commuting 2 * 95 Km every day i experience it at least 3-4 times every day. Car has off course been checked by tesla and are in mint condition. Utter POS after the downgrade and terrible when there's a bit of mist or fog with the dreaded "Reduced speed due to limited visibility" meaning the car intermittent cant maintain 60 Km/h @ 500 Meters visibility in the daylight on an empty straight road & at 300 Meters it will do a max of 7 (Seven!) km/h on TACC. This was never an issue when the Radar i have paid for was utilized. I cant use visionary future dependent thoughts of what Tesla perhaps will improve x years from now to anything those 2½ hours i spend in the car every day. All i can is acknowledge the fact Elon has downgrade my property in a severe way to increase profit and has lowered the prize of new cars to keep producing them to a level where the car realistically is unsellable meaning your stuck with the crap.
I totally feel your frustration here! Driving with Vision-only tech in its current state can be like a rollercoaster you didn’t sign up for - the unexpected braking, the slowing for shadows... it can really test your patience! 😅 But hear me out - Elon’s pushing hard on Vision because, in the long run, it’ll make Tesla’s autonomy safer and way more scalable. By building a system that mimics human vision, Tesla's trying to leap over the limitations of radar and lidar, creating something that will eventually outperform. Radar, for all its strengths, has its own blind spots and limitations. It’s like ripping off a band-aid - painful at first, but we’ll come out stronger and more advanced on the other side. And as much as it might feel like a downgrade now, Vision is really where autonomy is headed. Once the EU gets the FSD Beta upgrade, I think we’ll start seeing some serious improvements, just like our friends across the pond. Hang in there! In a few years, those frustrating moments might just be a distant memory, and we’ll all be laughing about the Vision struggles.
Haha, I get why it looks a bit intense! 😅 But testing Autopilot on roads like these helps push its limits and understand where it still needs improvement, especially for European conditions. And @LauriTakkunen is spot on - this is just a normal road in Europe! Sometimes it’s the only way to really see what Autopilot can handle in real-world scenarios. Safety first, though, and always ready to take over if needed! 👀🚗
Wow, sounds like the October 24 update didn’t go well in the UK! 😬 It’s frustrating when these updates don’t deliver the improvements we’re hoping for. When you say it’s “lethal,” is there a specific issue or behavior that’s causing the most concern? Hopefully, Tesla can address these quickly!
I had realised the auto pilot in Europe is very basic when compared to the FSD, It really struggles to understand the full road systems, but does brake for corners or a turn off the main road. Unfortunately we need the politicians to push the FSD laws to allow FSD in Europe and the UK.
Also breaks anywhere now else after that terrible OTA. You can often see it on screen. If you got a route set up that if there's a 30-35 degree bend on the track on the car will slow down. Happens all the time here. Yet another flawed overautomation.
You guys are absolutely hitting on the unique challenges that come with the EU version of Autopilot. It’s like getting the diet version of what we see in the U.S., and it’s frustrating, especially when it can’t handle the road complexity we know it should be able to tackle! The braking around curves and intersections makes it feel like the car's still learning the basics, right? 😅 But you’re right, @Jaw0lf - a lot of this comes down to regulatory approval. If we get the politicians on board to allow the full FSD in Europe, we could see this tech really take off here too! Until then, it feels like Elon’s hands are tied to an extent. And @ChipMIK, I totally understand the pain of those phantom brakes on bends! Tesla’s engineers are pushing hard to fine-tune Vision-only, and while it’s not perfect yet, this is the groundwork for full autonomy - think of it as a painful but necessary evolution. In the end, these growing pains could mean a driving experience that’s smoother and safer than radar ever allowed. Hang in there - we’re all hoping to see these issues fade as the tech matures! 🚀
@@robotinreallife Please just stop yourself with such nonsense. I bought a fantastic commuter car with a very well functional Cruise control. Tesla ruined this 2 years ago, and "could" doesn't justify anything like this. FSD "Should" have been out +5 years ago and this is just same BS talk from Elons side while he reckless ruins peoples property due to greed. ("Vision" was rushed out when there was chip shortage to keep up production of TMY's 31 years ago.) No camera can see through a wall of water a truck drags behind it and no amount of AI can make out for data that isn't there and there surely is a lot of data that isn't there with those old cheap cameras in the cars that never was meant to run "Vision"...So, even if you mean well, its just passing on Elon BS without technical insight into whats real or Elon-fiction.
I totally get the frustration with Tesla’s Vision-only approach, especially when we’re used to reliable radar and solid cruise control. Switching to Vision has definitely had its rough spots, and it’s clear Tesla’s trying to adapt this tech to handle challenging situations like curves, unexpected obstacles, and yes, even phantom braking. But to your point about Vision - remember, people drive with vision alone every day, and it works remarkably well, even through rain or tricky conditions. As for the ‘wall of water’ scenario, how would anyone manage that without visibility? If we, as humans, navigate it with just our eyes, the potential is there for Tesla Vision to do the same as it matures and adapts. Tesla’s aiming for a long-term solution where Vision alone can handle real-world complexity as well as, if not better than, radar. It’s ambitious and comes with growing pains, but ultimately, the goal is to make driving smoother and safer. Not to say it excuses the current issues, but I think there’s a payoff here if Tesla can close the gaps. Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts - these conversations are what keep pushing the tech forward!
I get it - that unexpected braking can be super frustrating, especially when it happens daily. Tesla’s Vision-only approach is ambitious, but it still has a ways to go before it’s as smooth as everyone wants. Hopefully, as they keep refining the software, these issues will start fading out. Until then, I totally understand why you'd feel relieved to let go of it. Here’s to hoping the improvements come soon for those still sticking with it! 🚗
You can already tell the difference in active intelligence between Autopilot and the new Autopark, which is based on FSD architecture. Hopefully we'll receive FSD later this year in EU.
The car is driving to aggressive. No blinkers while overtaking pedestrians, not slowing down before construction work or railway crossing... On the dangerous side.
Hey, great observation! But here’s the thing-what you're seeing here is Autopilot, which is like the ‘assistant’ driver, not the ‘pro driver’ (that’s FSD). Autopilot handles basic stuff like staying in lanes and managing distance, but it's not yet smart enough to handle all the detailed driving like blinkers when overtaking or slowing down for every obstacle. It’s kind of like teaching a kid to ride a bike-they get the basics first! 🚴♂️ Curious though, if you could design one feature for the perfect driving assistant, what would it be?
Haha, you might be onto something there! 😆 It does feel like FSD’s release in Europe is waiting on more than just regulations - maybe a bit of competition from our friends in the German car industry too! Hopefully, they’ll see the benefits soon and give it the green light. Until then, we’ll just have to keep pushing for it! 🚗💨
You’re right - the basic Autopilot is definitely more comfortable on highways. But once Full Self-Driving (FSD) is fully available, it’ll be able to handle country roads too, just like it already does in the U.S. Exciting stuff ahead! 🚗💥
Totally hear you - FSD in Europe and the UK is super limited compared to what you get in the U.S. It can feel like a waste right now, and I get why you’d be skeptical. But the core tech is improving fast, and hopefully, once regulations catch up, FSD here will finally be as impressive as it is across the pond. Out of curiosity, is there a specific feature or improvement you’d need to see to make FSD feel worth it in Europe? 🚗💬
As a former Advanced Driving instructor, if someone drove like that with me observing, they would fail. I live in SW France. I NEVER use AP because it is dangerous. FSD cannot deal with anything but straight American roads with corners. Both center the car in a lane and that is not where a car should alwyas be and for lots of reasons. Even with all driver assitants disabled in settings, the will emergency brake and autosteer. Useless, missold nonsense.
Thanks a ton for your valuable insight and hi to France! Could you take a look at the latest FSD 12.5 (here for example: ruclips.net/video/il5q8vBFZa8/видео.html ) and say if it's any better in your opinion?
completely useless video when you dont tell us the version. Obviously old versions they made a few years back and that are the ones used in Europe were not great. Why leave out the most important information??? It is obviously not 12.4.3 like they use in the US right?
This is the newest Tesla update 2024.14.3 HOWEVER like I mentioned in the video multiple times, this is not Full Self Driving but just basic Autopilot. FSD is not yet available in Europe, which is why I am preparing this channel by making a few introduction videos about Autopilot first.
its EUROPE ...we don't have FSD AT ALL ....he mentions MULTIPLE TIMES that they are in a European country....if you don't know your geography, that's your fault...
I heard europe autopilot is actually still based on v11. Anyway it really sucks. It is afraid of oncoming traffic even if they are on their own lane. It brakes hard if someone turn over your lane at 300 meters before you, even if going only 60kmh. Highway bump can lead to camera losing sight of the road for a split second and makes evasive manouver and tries to drive you out of the road.

Just came here after your comment on AI Drive FSD video, you get your 15th subscriber :D Nice work, please do more on EU FSD video :) Cheers for BE ;)
Thanks a lot, I am really glad you came over!
Nice demonstration of Tesla's capabilities in Europe.
Thanks! What was the most interesting moment for you? Where are you from? :)
Great video!
In line with my experience here as well (FR country roads).
Ideas to include in a next video:
* Autopilot nag can be canceled in NA market with the right scrollwheel (one speed notch), but in EU only torque steering.
* Autopilot worst enemy: roundabouts
Greetings to France from the Czech Republic! Thank you so much for your comment and praise!
Regarding your first idea, wow, I did not know that, interesting... Roundabouts are definitely on the menu in future tests. The ultimate goal is of course FSD testing once it is available in here :)
There is a difference between the basic autopilot and auto pilot with auto steer
You're right! This is with auto-steer turned on, which is still part of the free basic autopilot package that comes with every Tesla.
@@robotinreallife I seem to find the auto pilot without autosteer less stressful
Is it not possible to determine the maximum speed when it is on auto steering?
You can always see the speed on the screen (as demonstrated in the video) and you can also manually adjust by scrolling the right steering wheel button up or down :)
The limit for a railway crossing is 50 kmh if the light is blinking, fyi :)
11:45 Tesla def isn't the only manufacturer who does ota updates. Especially in 2024. (I drive a M3 in CZ)
Can you elaborate on that? Which manufacturers provide seamless OTA updates enhancing functionality of the car periodically?
Good point, you are absolutely right! I should go back to driver's ed.
7:10 car reacts to the cars on the right, not to the pedestrian on the left.
Great catch! Thanks for the comment! You are absolutely right.
Using the basic Autopilot (and I'd argue even their full FSD) on that kind of road is absolutely reckless. What is wrong with you
womp womp
Thats just normal road in europe.
doesn't work in UK Oct 24 update!!! FSD lethal
But you’re right, @Jaw0lf - a lot of this comes down to regulatory approval.
Wow wow wow, great editing, keep it up!!
Looks like we have our first superfan here! :D Thank you so much, what exactly are you referring to, so I can do it more in the upcoming videos?
Great video, I'm looking forward to filming another one ❤
Huge props to Radek the Driver!
@@robotinreallife Best autopilot driver in Kutná Hora!
Maybe in the Czech Republic...
Glad to get rid of my Model 3, the (daily) breaking at moments it should not, made me actually hate the Tesla.
Fingers crossed!
Fsd will be released in Europe when the German car manufacturers approve it
Haha, you might be onto something there! 😆 It does feel like FSD’s release in Europe is waiting on more than just regulations - maybe a bit of competition from our friends in the German car industry too! Hopefully, they’ll see the benefits soon and give it the green light. Until then, we’ll just have to keep pushing for it! 🚗💨
Man aren´t you Onden OndwaK? good job btw
🤫
Its designed for highways, not coutry roads.
You’re right - the basic Autopilot is definitely more comfortable on highways. But once Full Self-Driving (FSD) is fully available, it’ll be able to handle country roads too, just like it already does in the U.S. Exciting stuff ahead! 🚗💥
@ once, hopefully soon
Latest info suggests as soon as early 2025!
Its unuseable across Europe and the UK. Its a total waste of time buying FSD. Great cars, but forget about FSD
Osmdesátkou po vesnici? Hm.
Its getting now better with every update :)
Which one, FSD or Autopilot?
@@robotinreallife Standard Autopilot
We're definitely going to test that!
Could you take a look at the latest FSD 12.5 (here for example: ruclips.net/video/il5q8vBFZa8/видео.html ) and say if it's any better in your opinion?
that title though.
You're gonna love the next video title on monday!
lol, read the manaul before sending this kind of video
Thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely give it a try! Where do I find the manual please?
completely useless video when you dont tell us the version. Obviously old versions they made a few years back and that are the ones used in Europe were not great. Why leave out the most important information??? It is obviously not 12.4.3 like they use in the US right?
Europe doesn't have the FSD, only the basic Autopilot
This is the newest Tesla update 2024.14.3 HOWEVER like I mentioned in the video multiple times, this is not Full Self Driving but just basic Autopilot. FSD is not yet available in Europe, which is why I am preparing this channel by making a few introduction videos about Autopilot first.
its EUROPE ...we don't have FSD AT ALL ....he mentions MULTIPLE TIMES that they are in a European country....if you don't know your geography, that's your fault...
Exactly!
