  • @Mr.Salty.
    @Mr.Salty. Месяц назад +15

    Definitely was targeting. Defenseless player hit above the neck. Arizona state should have had a chance to kick a field goal in regulation to win the game. If they are not going to enforce the rule then get rid of it. It should have been called targeting by the book. I’m not a fan of either team but I feel bad State possibly got beat by the refs.

    • @tullfarley4962
      @tullfarley4962 Месяц назад

      it was NOT TARGETTING. it was “incidental contact”, Taaffe was clearly not intentionally leading with his helmet. finally, the crown of the helmet was never involved. it was face mask to face mask. and the refs agree.
      MEANWHILE ASU CHEATED by violating NCAA RULE 9-3-2B: “a team mate can not grasp lift or pull the ball carrier to assist in forward progress.”
      the ASU o-lineman CLEARLY lifted skattebo up and over the goal line. it’s in 4KHD on 100 cameras. the most egregious and obvious violation of that rule in the history of college football.
      ASU should have had that touchdown called back and should have been penalized 5 yards for that violation.
      ASU WERE GIVEN 7 free points that should have been called back.
      and they still lost.
      and now all the western sand aggy fans are crying about a correctly called non-targetting non-foul.
      you have no idea how lucky Asu Is that the refs let them get away with murder with the 9-3-2B violation.

    • @user-ko3zo7tq7n
      @user-ko3zo7tq7n Месяц назад +3

      ASU had way more help from the refs than a textbook non targeting call. At least 4 noncalls went ASU's way. Most importantly HELMET TO HELMET CONTACT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN TARGETING you emotional responder. Helmets touch every play. Lets take away the drama and rationally view it. First it was a tipped ball = no defenseless receiver. No launch. Never left his feet. Perfect upright tackling/arm wrap.... the kind of tackling the league is teaching/promoting. Zero intent. No crown of helmet. Basically facemask to facemask. No flag thrown on field. Was a bang bang play. Did it look bad? Yes. An emotional response would say yes targeting. Though upon further review with slow mo it's easy to break it down. Just like the booth did. One huge problem is plenty of textbook examples of actual targeting or non targeting have gone either way. It's inconsistently called and that leads to this type of drama. The Horns won after trying their hardest to give ASU several chances to win.

    • @bradcarver9437
      @bradcarver9437 Месяц назад

      Yes they were not the same at all. One was a body hit the other one was helmet to helmet.

    I don't see why the committee can't that is an unbalance situation, when a team is resting while Georgia is playing in the SEC championship
    game.
    So...if the committee is going to let Notre Dame play as an independent team...then they should let a team with three losses make the playoffs.

    While I have great respect for Coach Saban and his accomplishments, I also know that his job as an analyst with ESPN includes maintaining the narrative of his employer. ESPN is a significant media rights holder of the SEC. ESPN wants the SEC to stay the best football conference in the nation in order to maintain their investment in the SEC. So, bias is going to be a major effort to maintain that media value so ESPN can obtain the necessary advertisers and sponsors to pay the SEC member schools. Unfortunately, the ESPN/SEC narrative is imploding on itself. Instead, Notre Dame and its Independence is winning college football without any conference affiliation. So much for proving which conference is best!

    Idk I'm not a fan of texas or asu but if you go back to the earlier call where the texas reciever was in the air defenseless and got rocked his head snapped back and hit the ground which is what the rule is supposed to prevent. Dude launched at the reciever as well didn't directly hit him in the head more like the throat but the way dudes head snapped back that was targeting and why the rule was invented to prevent head injuries. The next one where the asu reciever caught the pass and it was helmet to helmet the texas back just closed in but didn't launch and the recievers head didn't snap back or hit the ground. There's not much you can do as a defender just wrapping up and making a good tackle. Thing is it ended up evening out and going to overtime and texas won.

    Give me a break, that hit on Bond was closer to targeting. Man, people love to hate on Texas. I think the horns come out next week after hearing how they will get steamrolled by OS, they come out and play like they are supposed to. I think they matchup well with OS. Texas 35-34.

    Don't even know what to say about Nick Sabin.. He's the greatest to ever coach in College football and it's not close. Bama was fans were spoiled through his greatness.. I'm a diehard Penn St fan but I've always like Sabin since his Michigan St days.

    Everyone is so up in arms about this targeting call, like the refs didn't help out ASU all game? How many holds didn't get called? ineligible men downfield? Skattebo touchdown should of been a flag. You cannot have it both ways.

      This is the play that had the most impact on the outcome. If they call it, ASU could win it right there. Not to call it had far more influence on the outcome, and there is no excuse for not calling that. They need to throw out targeting altogether if they can’t make a simple call.
      I didn’t care who won.

  • @FloridaVolts
    @FloridaVolts Месяц назад

    Any helmet to helmet contact should be targeting call. Because no matter if it’s the top or side of helmet it’s the same impact. Logic would tell you whether you hit a nail with any top bottom or side of a hammer you can still get that nail in. Let’s be real they want to give Texas the best odds of winning. If they give asu that call and they kick field goal game over. If Texas needed that call they would have call it. This is why we need ai referee

    Espn don’t want anyone discussing that they were in refs ear during review. They made the call just like they brokered the deal to get texas and ou to the sec 4 years ago. And then use clickbait this. I would love to know if saben has the integrity i have always thought he had to call it an obvious targeting call with his paycheck at stake.
