@@luciferianjesuslover9453u probably shouldn’t ask a new guy what companies he recommends! Ask someone who has been in it a couple years. I been doin it local for 2 yrs. Never went otr and probably never will. Most drivers will tell u it sucks. I’d say if u can go local go local! It’s the best and that’s what almost every trucker wants.

You want to be a OTR truck driver until you got stuck on the hyper heavy New York or Los Angeles traffic gridlock an have to call cops to rescue you. 😅

Otr sucks. Taking home 600-750 a week at swift. I made more at my old warehouse job. Trucking is way more responsibility too.
Cons- gone for weeks, you have to preplan for everything, more dangerous, can’t get part time job to make extra money, cooking in truck is a hassle. Finding parking sometimes sucks. I’m never doing otr ever again. 6 months and I’m out. I’ll accept a class B if I have to.

Idk. I get paid $30 an hour plus overtime. 70 hour work week. OTR you don’t get paid unless the wheels are moving. Hourly, I can wait 2 hours to get loaded and STILL be getting paid. Oilfield is the place to be if you have a cdl. My hometown is 2 hours away. I’m home every weekend. I guess depending on where the person lives, it might not be a good option.

Reasons why you should consider NOT going OTR. This from a 30yr CDL A driver. The amount of imbecile truck drivers OTR these days drastically increases your chance of failure early on in your learning curve. Is it still present with a local gig? sure, but know where near as bad. Starting off you need a cushion for your learning curve. When you have some "cushion" and you make a mistake you have a margin that might allow you to get past that mistake without it biting you and your record. See a CDL record isn't like a regular job, where you make a mistake and all is forgiven, it stays with you, and more often than not these days, wrecks the rest of your career. THINK hard, investigate, do your research. OTR might not be the best bet, don't let anyone tell you any different.

U get 4 days off a month probably won't even be at home. Say u make 100 grand but u had to run 300 days out the year for it divide the hours by 100k and see how crap the pay really is. Add in poor diet and lack of exercise. I will stick to my quad axle dump/flatbed where I actually move around during the day and make same money and see my wonderful family. I did 2 years of otr was great to see the country but it's no way to live

If you eat clean, lay off the meat, and eat more vegetables and fruit, keeping the weight off shouldn't be as bad. Yea, based on hours pay not look great, but $100k/year for 2 years saving 80-90% of your money(for someone with no bills and family) buys a house. No mortgage. In this economy? Sounds like a dream.

There's absolutely no reason a new CDL driver doin OTR shouldn't be making at least $85k per year. I'm a manager at a major fortune 300 trucking company. On our account, we have drivers, even fresh out of school, at an $85k minimum. And they're local and regional. OTR should really be doing six figures.
