Had this on VHS back in the day, met Tommy at a bar in Rochester NY of all places said he was there on business🤔, was cool anyways did a couple of shots and talked guitar....i I did ask him if he ever got his shoe back, he didn't.... 😆
I had a teacher in high school who said a lot of gorgeous people used this instead of developing a personality in their life. When their looks fade they have nothing to fall back on. Obviously Tommy didn't consider his looks as his talent. He worked hard to get where he is now. He wasn't just a pretty face but strong talent and kindness.
His parents were just adorable and obviously so proud and supportive of him. I've been a fan of his since he joined Styx, and he just keeps getting better and better. The guy's a born songwriter, a great singer on everything from rock to ballads to blue-eyed soul to bluegrass, he's an excellent guitarist and a dynamic performer. I love his music and his unwavering enthusiasm. He never fails to inspire me!
Thanks - that was nice. I remember watching this. Huge Styx and Shaw fan - still am. Great to see that he is still going strong. Isn't his mom so cute and sweet? She seems really nice - he must take after her.
Interesting and sometimes funny look at the fickle nature of celebrity and a humorous and humbling , behind the scenes look at what going on tour really involves. Tommy Shaw is a true road warrior.,, still touring and kicking ass 30 years later.
@@jaylkeene8236How long did his solo career last? Didn't he play with the Damn Yankees for 2 years? Then back to Styx to record a greatest hit song that he didn't originally sing on. This was how they got back together.
A musician that travelled with other band with Styx was asked in an interview who the nicest person in the music business he had ever met. He didn't hesitate. Tommy Shaw. Him and a band mate were going to breakfast and met him going the other way with two shopping bags in each had. He told them the man whose job was to fill in for anything was sick. He said I had to get him some food and medicine. Anyone else would call someone else to do it.
Wow! I've been looking for this video for decades. I watched it when it aired on MTV back in '85 and taped it with my mono cassette recorder. But, now, here is the video. Thank you for uploading!!!!
I don't recall this one airing on MTV but I know my parents recorded the one aired on MTV that was Live in Notre Dame with Nina Blackwood hosting. We watched it a billion times; the whole family loved it! Wish I could find it. That's what brought me here.
I saw Tommy Shaw open for RUSH on their "Power Windows" tour! Tommy & his band killed it, and RUSH always treated their openers great, so the PA was excellent, too. So many times the openers are talented but the PA sucks. Then the headliner comes on & the sound is great. RUSH absolutely killed it, also. *_GREAT_* concert! Thanks so much for this!!!
I remember when this aired on MTV…because I missed it! Like Michael Good I got a cassette recording of it from a friend of mine who wasn't as a big a jake leg as me. I've always wanted to see it, so HUGE thanks for posting this!
I am a musician too. I was a horn player and trumpet player in high school and I sang in the choir. They always gave me the high soprano parts that nobody Else could sing.
Starting at 19:36, does anyone out there have a VHS recording of the original girls with guns music video, like you see on this part of this documentary. Now Tommy Shaw has said that the video itself is nice and all, he probably love the way you looked. Although he wish that the video itself would be private to him, because he didn't want the original music video of girls with guns to go on the air of MTV or the entire world. I also sense that the producers behind that original girls with guns music video did it without Tommy's knowledge, so he had the band members and the record company behind him to pull off the original video from the air. And as we all know, the only video of girls with guns we see nowadays on the internet and ever since it aired on MTV. Is the girls with guns black and white music video that takes place in the studio, with a funny gag at the beginning when somebody uses the vending machine in the studio. However I am trying my best and I'm not giving up, to find the original version of the girls with guns video on the internet. If somebody got it from his or her VHS recording and post it on RUclips, Dailymotion, Vemo any of those sites in the internet. I am so desperately trying to find the original version of the girls with guns music video on the internet, with projections on a lady with a bikini or slingkini and my best favorite part from the video. We're Tommy Shaw and his band make a big jump, and land on the floor. Can anybody tell me where I can find the original girls with guns music video ? Make sure to give me a reply for this comment, and make sure to provide a link on the reply. So I can click on it and it will take me straight to somewhere in the internet, and I can finally watch the original version of girls with guns music video
Enjoyed this one… biggest Styx fan here and just love TS very melodic soloing. He wanted to do a solo album but ended up talking about his new band more..

I'm sure he is but he could tell that I was in the Dennis DeYoung camp. Worth noting, the concert was demoted from Bill Grahams Auditorium to the Regency Ballroom and only sold 88 tickets. So I'm sure he was pissed.
yeah maybe an off day, still sucks. I've seen Styx with Tommy three times and Dennis DeYoung once. Amazing, but I don't like the replacement for Dennis, Lawrence Gowan...
Dennis caused his own problems. He chose to be extremely difficult and create problems with everyone in Styx, not just Tommy. Business is business and Dennis had a different take from everyone else on where the band should go musically. The band came back together better than ever. Why blame Tommy for the rift? Tommy Shaw is still considered one of the nicest guys in the business.
Well I use to like Tommy Shaw … after watching this the Styx name which he was not a part of at the beginning made him big and he himself made himself a big douche on his own.

He's more handsome and youthful now compared then. That's Tommy Shaw.

ok but he looked like such a rockstar in High Enough. so handsome if you ask me

Fan of Tommy since, well before Styx. He toured here solo 3 years. I was there.
He toured Charleston, SC all 3 solo tours. I was there, and it was magical.
Richie Cannata from Billy Joel and Steve Holley from Wings were in his band? Dayum!! Those two alone would've been worth the price.
Amazing quality for ‘85
Dude to be honest a lot of the production in the eighties was better than it is now because you had bands actually playing their instruments.
OmG. I have looked for this for YEARS. I couldn't remember the name of it. Thank you SO MUCH for posting it. Wow!
I wouldn't be happily married with-out Chrystal Ball, or Boat on a River.
Thank you Mister Man!

This was so fun to watch! Thanks for sharing!
I like Tommy Shaw he's my favorite band member of the band styx hope he never leaves styx
He was great on “ live at Daryl’s house “ his Les Paul was a lot fuller than the Charvel he’s playing here. Plus his voice matured great.
Styx Tommy Shaw never saw tjis thanks for posting .❤🎶
thanks, for uploading this. hard to find any tommy shaw footage from back then. awesome!!!
Thanks for sharing this!!! I still have mine on VHS but this is much appreciated! He had a great band backing him up back on this tour!

Never saw this released officially in any format
It was first aired as an MTV special to promote his solo/Girls w Guns album.

Watched cuz I missed Tommy and Styx in Baltimore. God I can't believe I allowed that show to pass
I wanted to go but couldn't, because it was at HammerJacks. I wasn't 21 at the time of this tour...
Kiss me hello! Yum! Tommy got a little close to the crowd in Renegade, wonder if he ever got his shoe back.

I don't know how true it is but it was when Tommy joined the band that Styx started climbing the charts.
Tommy , Virginia Sue Allen The Queen Of The Meek. Just checking if you have met my brother Joey yet it' s about my wedding. 2018.
I saw Tommy Shaw after a show in San Francisco in 2009. I called him "Jonathan Chance".
He gave me the middle finger. :(
Was he joking maybe?
Probably not. Till this day, he hates the whole Kilroy Was Here experience. Jonathan Chance was his alias name on that concept album and short film.
I know, I have the dvd of caught in the act, just doesn't seem like him, he seems so nice :/

How does he can sing Styx songs meanwhile in supertramp only hogson can play their songs
From the looks of their behavior, I'd say they had a few pounds of coke stashed on the bus.
No doubt, I used to hate playing when I was jacked up on coke always fucked-up my solos 😆 those days are long gone I don't even drink anymore.
