The new Ping G425 driver has been getting rave reviews but just what difference, if any, does the back weight really make? Ping claim that it can help you draw driver, fade driver or hit driver straight depending where you position the weight. In this video Ali will test it out on Trackman to show you if Ping deliver on their promise.

You tend to draw the ball sometimes quite a bit. I would like to see a video with the Ping G425 where you compare the differences between moving the weight to the fade side, reducing the loft by 1 or 1.5 degrees to open the face, and utilizing the flat setting on the hosel. Perhaps even a combination of one or more above.

It is so great to get the perspective of a player that draws the ball. we are not all slicers! This is a very helpful video! I'm going to try fade bias and increase the loft on my G425 today.

  • @TheSlammer48

Perfect!! The only video that actually compared moving the weight. Was looking at the SFT and MAX to compare their draw bias, but they never moved the MAX wt. to the draw bias. Exactly what I wanted to know - if adjusting the MAX to the draw bias, would it be basically a SFT. But if there is a draw bias in the SFT club, then it should draw more.

    • @SS-qf2po

The two drivers cannot compare to each other... with the Max set in its draw position... does not even come close to the SFT for a draw... two different animals... It's virtually impossible to fade the SFT

I have the G425 Max and the G410 Plus, both in 9 degrees. The 410 sits more open at address and has a more neutral flight for me. I set it up with weight in the toe to facilitate my preferred power fade. With the 425, which I also have in the bag, I set it up neutral and it wants to got slightly right to left. When I put the weight in the heel, it's Pull City. But with the neutral setup it's a nice center to center-draw flight. (Also, FWIW, the 410 sounds/feels WAY better than the 425. I'm fine with the 425 -- it's not a deal-breaker for me -- but it is noticeably clankier than the 410 Plus).

I am curious to see what the impact of the flat lie setting would do. I have a left miss like you and would like to know if a flatter lie would help combat that.

Just bought the driver used it twice and notice I’m hitting it left a lot more than my original driver, it is going quite a bit further as well. So thanks for the video too I will try moving the weight towards the toe. Thanks again for a very informative video

What would happen if I put a heavier weight in the draw setting of my G410 ? My strikes tend to be low heel. I use a pink constant height tee.

Hello I am a G410 LST holder and my 31 handicap managed to hit a 264 yd + carry with 107mps club speed in December. However, I can noble the presentation, 43 "shaft size and the ball remained on the center line. With a different brand shaft and 44" length, unfortunately, I could never reach both slice and the same distances .. So the specification of Shaft affects as much as the driver head. In other words, the amount and direction of the heel weight added to the driver's head is not as effective as the feature of the shaft. Because, in both experiments, 5.5gr heel weight was in the center.

I can't tell anything from this, because the few times you hit the sweet spot it was actually pretty good ball flight. I would put the weight back in the center and get to where I was hitting it in the nut every time and go from there. I have a friend who consistently hits his g30 on the toe, so he sets up on one of the inside turbulators and nuts it almost every time.

its your club path, not the driver weight making you go left, lack of space in the studio making you swing left!

Since all driver strikes were toward the toe of the club, why not get about 3/8 of an inch closer to the golf ball?

Just bought this driver & it’s ridiculously forgiving & long. The best driver I’ve had. Upgraded from G410. I tried the LST I’m a cat 1 golfer & very it’s long but not forgiving. The Max is the ultimate fairway Finder. Tour player use the Max because of it forgiveness & even they say it’s the most forgiving driver ever. Get it bought guys.

Just watched video and your feet are not square to target your back foot looks a couple inches back of front foot. This causes an inside path to ball and a more tor hit. Square you're feet up and test again.

  • @cliverkay

Really the problem was that you couldn't find the middle of the face...If you did it would be more meaningful...

That Toe being directly in the air and a 45 1/2 inch driver shaft is why those balls go left not that weight 🙄

Very helpful video, thanks Ali. I’m a slicer but would be more inclined to go for the Max in the draw position that the SFT, for the very reason you mentioned. The Max should be a more versatile and future proof driver...and at £450 I need it to be!

  • @gregoryclark2674

I think, only thrice, did you hit it near center, feet lined up for draw mostly. Grab the tee or curse the slice. If your a slicer, Itll go right.

Fitted today Max vs SFT at local range…I’m 23.5 HC, 1 year starting to play golf…..I tend to push/fade/slices with my previous Titleist 915 D3 A2 Setting..with A3 setting (I tend to hit straight and a little draw)……with Max Draw Setting, I tend to hit solid straight and draw, there was 1-2 fades but not too bad….with SFT…at the range I tend to hit it straight and hard pull/hook, but still feel great even not as great as the Max…
The strange thing was…when fitted at simulator pro shop, I tend to hit draw the Max Draw Setting, but push/fade with SFT…. To be noted the tee height in the local fitter simulator is a little too short, so I don’t think my swing were optimum back then….but I knew my swing were just fine at the range……I ended up buying the Max 10.5 R Flex replacing my Titleist 915 D3 which I feel like night and day…..tested 8 drivers today from some respected brands (Titleist, Taylormade, Honma, Yamaha, Bridgestone and PING)…but I do think PING G425 Max is the best from those I tested and definitely the one for my game….Even I’m a natural slicer, but I didn’t pick the SFT because I believe I could do better swing in time….so I can move back the setting to Neutral or Fade… ..can’t wait to test this on a course this weekend.
Back to the question on movable weight…does it work? Yes it does. Big Time!
