I’ve been doing a version of this for years to simplify my setup. I see now that I need an adjustment. I always ply from the middle of my stance. Years ago I made an expect job for the driver and moved it to the “correct” position. You’ve just given me insight to play them all more left of center.
If you extend this concept of simplifying the setup and swing you end up with single length clubs. 😊 I’ve never tried them but it makes absolute sense to me. If I ever see a used set that suits me for cheap enough I’ll buy it. Thanks for the tip!

Just seeing this video even though I'm subscribed to your channel. This is good validation for what I've settled on in my setup. Trying to change ball position relative to my lead foot doesn't work out to great for me. If the ball gets too far back then I'll either fat the shot, flip the hands, or catch the inside of the club. I get much better results with more consistent ball position relative to lead foot and varying stance width to control how steep I want the swing to be. Maybe go slightly rearward but with a wider stance if I'm trying to use more bounce on a full wedge shot on soft ground.

I just tried this which I call the Hogan method down the range.
I kept the ball in the same position just inside my left heel like I have driver and then moved my stance closer together the shorter the iron.
But like hogan I also moved my foot back or forward depending on the club.
The result is I hit 3 7 irons on the spin for 190.
    190!
And I only have a swing speed of around 86!
I am amazed at the compression I was getting. The ball felt effortless out of the club.
I think it has forced me to hit down on the ball more creating compression.
    Amazed!
    Will practice it more.

Ball position close to the lead heel worked for both Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus. Not bad guys to emulate. Hogan also recommends narrowing the stance as the clubs get shorter toward the end of the Five Lessons book. Nicklaus said that the low point of his swing arc with all clubs was in line with his lead shoulder so the ball should be just a bit back of that. I do wonder where the variable position coaching originated.

I have been hitting the longer clubs well, but frequently skulling and even shanking the wedges moving the ball back in the stance. I will try this new position this weekend.

Great video coach. I even move my rear foot back (away from the ball) with my longer clubs. It allows me to get a fuller backswing which seems to sort out a lot of problems also

Jack Nicklaus used this technique. It works for me.

I've used this method for years and cannot understand why more don't adopt this instead they struggle on EVERY shot because they listen to so much hype.....a lot easier to be consistent with ball position....

I really like the idea. What if you want to play a lower flighted/knock down shot?

Strewth. I've been moving ball back as clubs get longer. I end up with it middle for 9.
Ill try this and keep it off my lead heel and just vary my stance then. Looking forward to trying this out and not moving my ball position at all.
    Hope it works for me

I absolutely use ball position. Where I differ is that I set-up facing the ball and take several practice swings. AND I move me! If my practice swing touches behind the ball, I move slightly target direction, and vice versa. What I don't do is expect that "I'm going to adjust mid swing to get my club to low point target side". It's so much easier to play with what you have. Do a few practice swings, move to the proper set up position, and swing freely.

Hard to believe people still argue that the ball has to be in the back of the stance. I've been teaching 35 years and I don't remember moving the ball backwards for many students. I have however moved it up for hundreds of students. Thanks.

When I get the ball too far back in my stance I get all out of whack. There’s so much bad information on RUclips where you’re told to put irons in the middle of your stance.

@@JCpNK I always advocate people find what ball position works best and to monitor the numbers of swing path, club face and launch angle. Most of the times they will discover a constant ball position is their best option

The only one I've seen be successful with the ball position back is Bryson. And it looks way back.

@ the entire point is to find what works for you and go with it. What other people do might be horrible for the next person. Bryson is a freak Thanks for watching

With the ball in the same place, how does one consistently lean the shaft a bit forward at address.......or should we?

Big Jack plyaed everything off his left heal. i think I will stay with him except the driver - cuz modern theory is on the upswing. On the ground should be one position one swing.

Playing the ball forward of center with anything shorter than a 7 iron leads to hooks for me.

If I placed my wedges with the ball that far forward they would go nowhere. I play them off my back foot if not behind my back foot sometimes and have a really solid wedge game. I so struggle alot with my irons and will try this.

Using the same ball position for every club wrong advice imo
