I love how Mark is the only one reviewing drivers that mentions "Your standard deviations". "What are your tendencies?" , "Do you tend to hit it out of the heel or high toe more often, etc? " Everyone else just covers distance and looks. Great review as always.
@@MarkCrossfield Agree. Most of us are not robots, Can't hit it perfect every time. I'll take 280 in play every day over 320 in the bushes or trees. I don't necessarily care if it's the latest tech or if it's the longest, straighter is better.

Straight "Flight" Technology surely Mark 🤭 Good review and one of the best releases from PING, I would actually consider this and that's not normally my view of Ping drivers!
If I understand you, you are asking us to consider choosing a driver that may not be the one that goes the farthest on the one out of 50 perfect swings and contact we make and consider the one that more or less gets the ball in the fairway most frequently, even though on average it may not be as long as the one we cream every once in a while. I think that is sound advice. I recall Lee Trevino saying the purpose of the driver is to put the ball in play. Once it is in play, then we can play golf. Great video. I've made the same decision you are leaning us towards. I am using a 12 degree driver and I put a high quality shaft in it. I am hitting more fairways than ever. My golf buddies tell me the shaft was the best money I ever spent. It is confidence building to hit a lot of fairways. Great video. I really like the videos where you try to show things to be considered and ways we can approach golf to be better at it or enjoy it more just by having a better fundamental understanding of the game. Again, great job.
I once made a birdie on a par 3, by hitting the tee shot so poorly it hit the trunk of a tree, bounced off, rolled towards the green, and stopped about 3 feet from the hole 🤣
After 30 years of playing golf, my first ever Ping club was the G410 max driver and it was a complete revelation for me. It transformed my game off the tee, so really excited to give these a try.
I had G410 LST, got G425 in August, then got G430 last week. Played 3 rounds with it so far and it's a noticeable improvement. I loved G425 and absolutely mashed the ball, but the sound and feel are better with G430. I've also hit some shots off the heel and toe that I swear I am getting way more yardage and minimal curve/gear effect with
I got fitted for the ping this week. My inner is +0.7, but I'm a very low spin player. At the fitting my swingspeed was between 99 and 104 mph. I was averaging 265 yards carry with 1661 rpm of back spin... and that was with the Max head. I liked how the toe strikes kept spin above 1000rpm, and it launched that high at 16.2° that they didn't just dip out of the sky. It's a knuckleball machine for me. If I need more spin, for example, down wind, I just put my cut swing on it. I tried the Paradym, Aerojet, and Stealth 2 all on the same day, my swing was a little off and spin was 500rpm lower than normal, the ping still worked, all the other clubs my neutral swing dipped so I had no choice but to put a cut swing on them to keep them airborne. Great job by ping and I'm normally a TM player
One thing I have always like about your reviews is that you are honest, even if that goes against the grain. Length at this point is probably the third most important thing for me. At my swing speed (95mph) pretty much every driver is going to be within two to four yards from each other. What I would like is a test to show which driver is the absolute best as far as getting your ball into the fairway. I'm more than willing to give up five or six yards if I am hitting from the fairway. Ping has been good in that regard. I'd love to see if the Ping 430 is better at mishits than the 425.
Was fitted today, I was having a launch problem with low spin with my Z565, ended up with the G430 max in 12*. What I found interesting was the launch between 10.5 and 12 was almost identical, but the spin number on the 12 sat average 2500, whereas the 10.5 was always sub 2000. Carries equal, ball speed similar, 12* longer total, but left and right much much better with the 12. Club speed steady 100mph, path very zero and sometimes slightly on the inside, face very stable with a slight draw, strike always slightly high toe, very slight. I will say, compared to the 6 different drivers I hit, this was by far the better club for me, and compared to what I had, completely different game. Was an interesting session, not cheap, but I’m much more confident letting rip with this driver.
I still love my G400 max I’m fairly sure it will be still in the bag this time next year At the prices driver are now it would need a family discussion 😊😊😊when I got the G400 I was asked “dose it hit it itself “
PING G430 LST, upgraded 2 months ago from the G400 LST, never thought I would but the G430 preformed better in a fitting and after I got used to it as it's a completely different shaft it's well worth it for me
I got the 425 LST last year after price drop. I think one thing that gets overlooked a lot on the LST vs the other lower spin heads is the fact there is still significant weight at the back AND it is adjustable. I don't think there is another "low spin driver" currently that has that option? They have moving weights but they are pushed forward on the head. In my opinion that is a big factor of advantage in the ping. It may not be the longest, but possibly more "stable"?
I'm a Titleist guy but if I can hit a Ping without it sounding like I dropped a box of Christmas ornaments down a two flights of wooden stairs, I might have to test it. 👍 Good video, thanks for the knowledge 😉
I’m constantly battling a high fade with the driver (very old Callaway). Do you find the Rogue Max D does an effective job for you dialling that out? I’ve got one on my wish list
Hi Mark, thx again for this great review!! As you may know Ping has also the High Launch version of the G430, special for slower - swingspeed - players. Ping even promise those players gained on average of nine yards with build HL. When are you going to review this ?
Mr. Crossfield, thank you for trying to educate golfers and the industry on the pitfalls of driver comparisons when humans are involved. I watch and read so many driver reviews that claim driver x is better I hit it 10 yards further. Reality check - you hit it 10ths further because the input was different not because the club is better. Example - watched a 430 vs 425 review the conclusion was got 3mph more of ball speed on 430 it’s better. However the CHS was 1.75mph higher, they hit the 430 second. Not to mention the SDs overlapped. In short thanks for the education.
Honestly, it shocks me what companies are happy to allow as reviews. The numbers I see are misinterpreted in videos and its laughable. Clicks clicks and clicks
I think this year is the most competitive in Drivers....I have no idea which one i prefer Ping G430.....Callaway Paradym.....Titleist TSR2......Cobra Aerojet....Taylormade Stealth 2....all appear to be very very good Drivers.....look forward to testing them out....cheers all from Canada
It comes down to what yiu are currently using, and if you actually need a new driver. Just buying a new driver cause it's the hot new thing is probably a bad idea
I’ve been playing a G430 Max for the past fortnight and have already posted my 2 best scores ever. Today I had an 84 as a 19 handicapper so I’m thinking about going pro. The game is so much easier when you’re hitting your second shot from the fairway isn’t it?
I'll keep my Ping G425. I'm convinced the small difference would not be seen playing, I rather improve my swing. Used to have a Ping G30 which I loved, but it cracked in the face and bought the G425. Not that much longer or straighter, but I love it..
Thanks for the info. G430 max - If I reduce the loft by big(-) it reduces the loft by 1.5deg but opens up the face (so I am told) a) is that correct.. b) if I bought a lower deg driver say a 10 deg would the face still be as open or is the starting point of a 10deg a bit more closed
Mark- If the standard deviation on both clubs is nearly the same should you not revert back to looking at the averages? I’d have thought you’d only really pay close attention to the std deviation if they were massively different? If we look at the sample shown at 10:27: the LST is average carry is 288 carry, std dev. 5. So the std dev. Shots are carrying between 285-290. The max average carry is 283, std dev. 4, so std dev. Shots carry 281-285. So on this sample, your top end with the max is the same as your bottom end with the LST, which would suggest the LST is the one for you. Obviously players who don’t swing as fast or have the consistency of strike as mark it could be different, they could have massively different std deviations between the two models where it would be a big factor. Also there’s the debate on whether or not you’ll see that benefit over a season out on the course and how much it affects your scores but that’s hear nor there. Mark, if I’m completely missing the point on this then I think you need to do a video explaining how that std deviation should be factored in when comparing clubs
Great review. G425 was very accurate but I consistently swung the stealth 3mph faster. Every time I compared the two. Ping heads always heavier it seems.
@@MarkCrossfield That makes sense,, thanks Michael and Mark. I have a G425 Max and it reads 2-3 mph slower ball speed than my (old) Srixon Z785. More accurate though.
I'd like you to include pricing in your reviews as it is a really relevant factor . Calloway are just taking the piss with their pricing and it would be interesting to know what the others are doing.
Rogue St LS. Was noticeably longer and more forgiving than my M3, especially out on the toe (my miss). Probably will stay in the bag for a while. At least until I get bored of it or something haha.
Hi. Mark always mentions a ‘proper fitting’ being part lesson, part fitting and part ‘prescription’ for what grip, shaft and clubhead combination would work best for each golfer’s swing and movement. Is anyone aware of anywhere particularly good in South Wales area for this - up to Bristol maybe. I’d gladly travel and pay up to £100 if I knew I was getting good, trustworthy advice at a fitting and could leave knowing what tech options would work best for me. Tbh if their prices for the clubs were also within about 10% of the cheapest option, I’d probably still get it from them to have peace of mind!
G425lst. But on the basis of this and one other review suspect it will remain in my bag as the cost to change could be better spent elsewhere. It's a small incremental gain and currently achieving a consistent 275 with my G425lst. Decent review so thank you!
I once made a birdie on a par 3, by hitting the tee shot so poorly it hit the trunk of a tree, bounced off, rolled towards the green, and stopped about 3 feet from the hole
Looks like you got 2 different shafts in those drivers Mark. Guessing Ping "tour" stiff in LST and Alta CB in the max. When I got fitted for my 425 LST I tried both and the tour version did seem to produce more fade side bias for me as well. I believe it's also technically a bit shorter. Hopefully back home in the studio if you are doing further testing you can get them a bit more matched up.👍
I once made a birdie on a par 3, by hitting the tee shot so poorly it hit the trunk of a tree, bounced off, rolled towards the green, and stopped about 3 feet from the hole
i got into a g425 last season and while the sound is different than other drivers I fail to see how its a consideration. The sound doesn't play any part until the ball has already been contacted. Are there golfers out there worrying about the sound of the club at address??
All my numbers point toward the LST, but the max finds more fairways. One club less, sometimes two, into a green isn't worth missed fairways. 425 max with a ventus black has been the most consistent driver I've hit in 20 years of playing.
@@ZiPolishHammer 108-112. Playing it tipped 1/2". I also have the ventus tr in 6x tipped 1/2". The black isn't as scary as it sounds. Still has a ton of feel. I played the Ping Tour 65x in my G400 max.
@@adambarnes4191 Ok. I'm usually 108-110, so similar. Also playing a Ping Tour 65x at the moment and am getting along well with that. Should probably give the black a look then and not just assume I need to go into the blue. I prefer a lower flight as well
@@ZiPolishHammer the blue is good feel loose if you've been in a higher kickpoint shaft. The black is awesome, the tr is a blend of the black and blue. What head you playing?
Mark, out of all the 2023 drivers, which one do you think a +1 handicapper with average ball speed around 168 would like the most? Especially if I'm trying to get average ball speed up to 175. Thank you for your vids.
I have a Callaway Rogue in my bag that I got last year. It replaced a PING G from 2016. I was fit for both. The G was a great driver... still is. But the sound is terrible. Not quite Nike SQ terrible, but terrible. I've grown to love the sound of the Rogue. I generally play a driver for about 5 years. So, I'll be sticking with the Rogue for a while.
I'm so low spin I can't use lst but that does put me in a good category for the g430 max as my speed is pretty much the same and I'm around low 2000rpm anyway. Looking forward to mine arriving. I was getting 160ish ball speed 13 launch but rpm as low as 400 with my stealth. 250 avg carry G430 160ball speed 16 launch lowest rpm 1600 avg 2000rpm. Carry avg 274 Well happy

I always look forward to your PING reviews Mark. It’s like… you know what the new buzz and trends will be by looking to see if PING does anything new. PING… it just works! LOL.
A. I Love Ping, i play the irons (even though i play a Titliest driver) B. Brilliant how you've released this on the "other" companies big launch day 👍👍😂😂
Hi Mark, I would love to see a club review where you try identify the first driver where all technology has been maxed out. Then compare it to these new models where marketing tries to sell us the dream of more tech and distance.
Love your reviews and insight, however, it would be more informative if the two clubs you are comparing have the same shaft. It seems to me that a great head, with a not so great shaft, can have a negative effect on the head's performance.
I think you overstate the importance of standard deviation. If the standard deviation for both drivers is the same then it becomes statistically insignificant, all it is telling you is that the consistency was the same for both tests, if one of them has come out with a higher carry and the standard deviations are the same then you can say that the one with the higher carry is longer, the overlapping thing doesn’t make much sense as a point because that’s basically saying, if I hit this one bad and the other one good then they go the same distance, which is kind of a pointless thing to say
My stat expert tells it different. I am loving learning from them. If this repeats over and over for sure go with your average. For the shots hit SD gives a good idea of the cross over that we do always see in the field. 👍👍👍
I once made a birdie on a par 3, by hitting the tee shot so poorly it hit the trunk of a tree, bounced off, rolled towards the green, and stopped about 3 feet from the hole
And the you tube ‘huge news/massive announcement’ on Mark’s channel is there is no huge news in these new driver releases apart from silly names and quite unbelievable prices. Concentrate on that chipping and putting.
When it comes to a new Driver fitting, I am going to be so torn. With the "2" version of the Titleist driver looking phenomenal, I am definitely going to be testing that. The new Srixon drivers (specifically, the Zx5 LS) look super bomb-y. Now, to top it off, the G430 LST looks gorgeous. It may be time to look to upgrade from my G410 LST.
I have always enjoyed your reviews over the years, but lately they've become a little stale. Yes the manufacturers have all reached the limits allowed for distance, etc. but all your reviews are 'it's a good club in line with all the other clubs'. Yet you hit this one extremely straight and long, bounces and all, but really didn't comment on it. And having Coach and Trey test the club was fun but no review comments followed? Keep up the good work but maybe shift your review more in line with Mygolfspy and state all the design and performance parameters more clearly. I appreciate the difference from the 'oooh, wow' reviews by others but maybe a little more in depth information would help. Just a thought.
Average for one club isn't relying on outliers any more than averages for another - the std deviations do show overlap, but if one is longer on average then it's longer on average. Granted, for that to be relevant you need consistency across several tests and a big enough sample. But that half carbon two tone look is still horrific no matter what and that's disappointing.
@@MarkCrossfield Exactly, and I'm glad you continue to mention those things. Unfortunately the way club purchasing happens most won't hit it even once prior and those who do get very little time with it. Broken, no?! Great review, excited for the Aerojet one - thank you!

Spot on. They use mass for speed 👍👍
@@MarkCrossfield That makes sense,, thanks Michael and Mark. I have a G425 Max and it reads 2-3 mph slower ball speed than my (old) Srixon Z785. More accurate though.
I'll take hitting the fairway more often than 5 more yards in the rough.
Holy crap Mark. Where is the 262 mark I used follow. Those extra yards must be the drivers not all the extra work you’ve been doing physically.
Thanks for the fun test.
Still rocking the 410LST with double-weights.
Hopefully back home in the studio if you are doing further testing you can get them a bit more matched up.👍
The numbers had the same shaft in. 👍👍👍

i got into a g425 last season and while the sound is different than other drivers I fail to see how its a consideration. The sound doesn't play any part until the ball has already been contacted. Are there golfers out there worrying about the sound of the club at address??
I use g425 max, due to injuries my miss is slice fade. Would you recommend LST FST 430 OR SRIXON X5 . LOVE TO KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS.
Reminds me of the ping rapture with the colours on these new ping drivers???? 👌 Great video, love a new equipment video 😊👍
Thanks as always Mark Honesty as it should be. You stand alone in the class. Don’t change 👍⛳️🏌🏼♂️👨🏻🦳🇨🇦
These reviews are for you guys backed with hopefully good knowledge. I agree others seems to want to make magazine bits that sell. Sad really.
Actually Rick Shills was honest with his stealth 2 review
Mark's been bulking up over Christmas to get some extra distance off the tee 🦃🏋♂
All my numbers point toward the LST, but the max finds more fairways. One club less, sometimes two, into a green isn't worth missed fairways. 425 max with a ventus black has been the most consistent driver I've hit in 20 years of playing.
they do make great clubs
What kind of swing speeds you got playing the ventus black?
250 avg carry
G430 160ball speed 16 launch lowest rpm 1600 avg 2000rpm. Carry avg 274
Well happy
Gaming a Sim 2 currently but really like the looks of Titliest drivers I do really appreciate these reviews Mark, I see Callaway Paradym won on the whiners tour in Maui, love trying new stuff 😁
I didn’t think the whiners tour started yet. Interesting. 👍🏼
I always look forward to your PING reviews Mark. It’s like… you know what the new buzz and trends will be by looking to see if PING does anything new. PING… it just works! LOL.
Although I can not afford about 90% of the clubs you test, still very much appreciate all you do to scratch the golf itch while not on the course.
Can you review the Cobra Aerojet driver please?
"Did I hit that!?" is still one of my favourite golf RUclips moments of all time 😂
Hey Mark, where is this filmed? It looks familiar to me. I live in Murcia
A. I Love Ping, i play the irons (even though i play a Titliest driver)
B. Brilliant how you've released this on the "other" companies big launch day 👍👍😂😂
so much hitting at the minute its crazy
Is there a RUclips channel for the podcast?
Looks like the new Srixon drivers have had the fastest ball speeds so far. Great to see for a guy always looking to save $100!
TSR was fast too.
Still gaming 425 LST - probably wont change until PING makes something without turbulators that looks good enough to switch.
Hi Mark, I would love to see a club review where you try identify the first driver where all technology has been maxed out. Then compare it to these new models where marketing tries to sell us the dream of more tech and distance.
Loyal to Ping since 2007 and not planning on changing
These remind me of the Sri on review you did
Where are you playing in this video?
Looking forward to high launch review, BUT please ask someone with a slower swing speed to test with you!!!😊
i was fitted for one and used it today for the first time- it was almost cheating !! split every fairway bar one - the best driver i have had
Ping g25 but possibly looking into upgrading.
Can you do a vid on the cleveland uhx driving iron?
I can try for sure
Love your reviews and insight, however, it would be more informative if the two clubs you are comparing have the same shaft. It seems to me that a great head, with a not so great shaft, can have a negative effect on the head's performance.
The numbers had the same shaft. The o course performed reflected the data too. You had both 👍👍
I think you overstate the importance of standard deviation.
👍👍👍
@@MarkCrossfield yeah but I’ve heard your stat expert is a stathole so…
@@Stephenpettitt198 haha he so is.
Ping G410 10.5 loft with Tensei CK orange 60 S. Best $175 I’ve ever spent on golf......
Great review Mark, thank you. I do believe the SFT stands for Straight Flight Technology, FYI. Keep up the good work.
It does, I am just being flippant 😉🙈
I’d easily game a PING driver….except for those hideous turbulators. They just seem to get bigger and bigger.
Where are you? Or better where did you record that video?
I once made a birdie on a par 3, by hitting the tee shot so poorly it hit the trunk of a tree, bounced off, rolled towards the green, and stopped about 3 feet from the hole
Hopefully it will be good!
they dont make a bad one
And the you tube ‘huge news/massive announcement’ on Mark’s channel is there is no huge news in these new driver releases apart from silly names and quite unbelievable prices. Concentrate on that chipping and putting.
PING, please make a 9° SFT
Titleist TSR3
When it comes to a new Driver fitting, I am going to be so torn. With the "2" version of the Titleist driver looking phenomenal, I am definitely going to be testing that. The new Srixon drivers (specifically, the Zx5 LS) look super bomb-y. Now, to top it off, the G430 LST looks gorgeous. It may be time to look to upgrade from my G410 LST.
Totally agree
Spinsiticy what does that actually mean!
Straight Flight Tech isn’t it? Not Straight ‘FIT’ as you keep saying ?
I miss be getting old that I skip past the tech pay out the "la dee da"
Ping G25...... no reason to change until i get better
Several tests and large data size being the point good sir.
I like the look of the LS 👍👍
@@MarkCrossfield Exactly, and I'm glad you continue to mention those things. Unfortunately the way club purchasing happens most won't hit it even once prior and those who do get very little time with it. Broken, no?! Great review, excited for the Aerojet one - thank you!
Hi Mark it's straight flight technology NOT straight fit technology. I did tell you severql months ago lol
😉
All these new £500 + drivers longer and more forgiving than last years £500+ driver that was longer and more forgiving than the one that went before ! Anyone else think they are all taking the P--
you have a point
Always like a "let's see what it sounds like"
I miss the days of 262.......LOL!
I dont get these Ping drivers and the cultists that claim there so forgiving , tried several over the years on course( No Simulators) against my gamers and they always under perform callaway , taylormade , or cobra stuff ... I dont find them any more forgiving than anything else and honestly , I dont like how they sound ... I am scratch golfer with 40 years of experience in this game and my driving average is 280 even at 59 years old ... What am I missing here ? I am not biased on any brand and have access to any driver or iron and shaft combination I want and test them on course only ... I currently use a OG Sim and nothing currently is any better or worse for me to change and have to admit that I love the look of the Sim and is has been a durable driver for me , the sole and face still looks great after 1000s of drives ... I am not trying to piss off Ping players but do you need special swing characteristics to get these to perform or what ?
Weird watching this and seeing my old man’s apartment in the background haha
I want I want I want 😩
make sure you test
If the whole every new club anyone makes is better & longer we’d all be hitting it over 300 by now 🙄
Every review of this seems to be coming to the same conclusion, its not really different to the 425....
hey Mark send me the Max and i'll test it for you lol
haha its a great club
How can a giant clubmaker, Ping, claim that they can fit 95% of all golfers with only five shafts?
After all these years we're still talking about shafts ahaha
pretty
they do look great
got a headache watching this. camera was all over the place.
Loose those ugly turbolaters please Ping.
Ping loves making ugly golf clubs
Is the LST easy to hit compared to a stealth 2 plus or TSR3?
Question answered😅
