I’ve paid for 3 x 200 dollar fittings at precision golf and all fitters disagreed and aggressively hated on one another’s opinions. I’ve learned more from this video than their fittings.
Just proves what a great club head the Ping 430 Max is. I have mine with the CB shaft in regular. Haven’t tried the others. Most forgiving and longest driver I’ve had in 50+ years of golf. Confidence inspiring.
I think a good thing to remember with companies like Ping is that they design and test their drivers with their stock shafts as the engine for both robots, and testers. You may be getting a 'cheaper' offering, but its one that was vetted for the head. Great video as usual!
I upgraded from the G425 with the AltaCB last year to the G430 with the tour Chrome X. Initially it did feel more stable, but I didn't feel like I was getting whip I was used to. I've switched to the tour Black S, and that seems better, but I'm still not sold. I ended up changing the movable weight on the back of the club adding 3 grams over stock and that has proved beneficial, but now I'm not getting the launch angle and height I was seeing. Good point on shaft length and stability though, as I've always tended to prefer the longer for speed but hadn't considered the impact on stability. Think after watching this and now having hit the G430 1000's of times, I might start over at how I got it stock and see how it feels. My distances have been pretty consistent so working on feel and dispersion / control. Thans for sharing. Good stuff.
Thanks for making this Video. I played the Kai li, then the tour black, and went back to Kai li. I play them in stiff with the max head. I am in the 100-105 range. Kai li is heavier and launched lower for me and I just needed lower launch with the 9-degree head. I feel there is a better option out there. The tour black did feel good and liked the lighter weight. Wish I could demo some other shafts. I should just go play golf and be thankful for what I have.
I recently got fitted with the g430 max tour chrome 45”. My grouping of 20 shots was 25 yards. My old driver was a Titleist tsi3 with a VA nemesis 75 shaft at 46”, the dispersion was 105 yards across. My handicap went from 4.2 up to 9.7 with the Titleist. I have played 6 winter rounds and have yet to shoot above 78. The term drive for show putt for dough has been proven to be such a wrong theme.
I came here because I wanted to know if others are having the same level of success with the Alta CB that I am. I've been using Graphite Design shafts for years, and I am blown away by how good this stock shaft performs.
Hi there. I have the Red Smoke stiff but it's paired with the G430 LST. Great results in lowering the spin that you got with the G430 Max. Great review, as usual. Thanks!
haven't watched the video yet, but my local golf coach/fitter told me that Ping says that they specifically design their heads to work the best with their stock shaft offerings. In other words, he said there is no need to upgrade the stock ping shaft. I'm pretty skeptical, so I'm looking forward to the results here.
Lst driver tour black. Max 3 wood tour chrome and 3Hy hazardous red. Had full Ping fit. Fitting process great. Only had the odd ping driver and putter previously but now bag 13 ping clubs plus LAB putter
@MichaelNewtonGolf went for the LAB Link 1 best putter l have ever had. Always liked the centre shaft style. Ping did fit me for a tyne C. Just don't like the soft face on these. Went all out on the LAB never spent that kind of money on a putter. But putting weakest part of game so went for it and was the best desicision ever.
Excellent video and fantastic information as always and very interesting the difference between the shafts and highlights how valuable a fitting is when spending so much money on one club.
11-20-2024 just got fitted for the G430 Max and ended up with the Tour 2.0 regular flex shaft. Waiting for it to be delivered. Hit the Toir shaft better than the CB regular shaft by 10 yards. It does make a difference. First fitting I’ve ever had. Bought all my other clubs of the rack. The fitting at golf Galaxy was $70 and they put it towards the new club. Never felt good about paying a $150 for a fitting just in case I hit my current driver better than a new one and then I was out $150.
Good video Michael. What I would like to see manufacturers provide is the full specs of each shaft. The things I would like to know, above what is usually provided, are torque, launch, tip flex, kick point, spin, etc of their stock offerings. I have just had an experience where my G430 SFT (ALTA CB REG) was good but I was unhappy with distance. A pro advised - stiff, 70-80 grams, low torque (less than 3.0), an inch longer than standard and set loft at 9.5. The results have been counter intuitive. I have gained 15 metres off the tee and generally hit straighter shots. As a 70 year old golfer, this was an eye-opener. Unfortunately I have never used Trackman, or similar, and have no idea of my swing speed. Thanks.
Just been fitted today for the 430max 10k with the tour black xs shaft sooo much different to the current driver g400 lst stiff. 15hcp and definitely felt and seen the difference.
When I was fitted for my G430 max, i was impressed with the range of stock shafts, each of which had quite distinct characteristics. I tried Alta, chrome, Hzrdus and Kai’li in stiff. For me the Alta felt like it had the most distinctive kick and had the best mid height flight pattern. After playing it for a while, I’ve found best results have been to lower the loft from 10.5 to 9.5 degrees, to control the height.
I hit the alta today and felt like the tip was really active and I was hitting left most of the time, unfortunately that’s the only shaft I can try and I want to purchase this weekend
Alta definitely launches high. I tweaked the driver down to 9.5 to lower the launch, but it’s still a bit high, but it’s pretty straight and the kick is very pronounced
I just took advantage of the discount on the G430 Max and they put the Kai’li White 60 on there. Night and day in comparison to my last driver. Went from 265 yd average to a 290 yd average. All because I got fitted and they told me to move up from a stiff shaft to x stiff.
I was going to get fitted for a shaft, but think I will just go with a stock shaft after seeing this. (Still ‘’fitted’’ so to speak, just using the right stock shaft) I am back after 13 years without playing, so 1 out of 10 is all I am striking ok-ish. Doubt a better quality shaft will make any difference to someone like me. Thanks for this video, very informative
I haven't watched the video either but just had a fitting in preparation for a Spring woods change - I got some surprising results from a 35g stock shaft - delivered 15-20 yds more and improved dispersion - 230-240 yds overall.
@@jeffyeah4256 doesnt work like that at all, speed is only a basic estimate of shaft stiffness, you need to remember like this video shows every shaft is different even if say they are all stiff ones. Go try them to find one for yourself.
Man where was video earlier this year? 😅 I struggled so hard to choose between the tour black and the kai’li because no locations had both in the same flex anywhere! Thank for the video
@@garyking7687 yes I went x stiff because I load pretty aggressively. May lose a few yards in 9° setting but it flys for sure with more control in the 10° setting. My swing speed is around 105 beginning of the season and creeps up to about 110/112 when I’m comfortable and swinging well.
@@kentao4 thanks that helps. I've got the tour 2.0 chrome in stiff fitted but the shaft feel way too wippie for me and I'm having to slow my swing down to be able to hit it.
Nice video. I believe if you had used the cb in an x it would have been right there. I just went through fitting and being 64 year olds, 4 handicap, my quick tempo , 87-90 mph , got the best results with the CB.
What you call a toe shot versus what I call a toe shot are two very different things lol. Your toe shots are my center strikes. 😂 I’ve got a much better swing now compared to when I got fitted for the max. However, I think I’m producing too much spin now using the Alta CB. At the time of fitting, I needed the spin to counteract a hook, but I’m hitting very straight now. It’s really interesting to see the spin variations from these different shafts that you don’t often see in other reviews. 👍
If you need a stiffer shaft the tour black or kai’li would probably suit better. For me the chrome felt a bit dead. Played the Hzrdus before in a TM driver but it was very high launching
Got fitted for the tour shaft chrome stiff . I got better numbers compared to the paradym driver. This tour chrome shaft was the only shaft they fitted me in. I like it though
I personally believe that alot of male golfers should be using the Chrome 2.0 in stiff with a 9 or 10.5. I don't think many players have actually tried it, and don't get me wrong, everything is subjective based off your swinging club speed and attack angle, but it's definitely a shaft worth checking out for many players. That gives you the option to go down to 9.0 which for majority of players would be about as low as they can handle. Don't give me wrong many players think for some reason the lower the degree the better the player you are, when in reality many PGA tour players use 10.5. Ping makes really good stock shafts. People really should look into getting a club fitting first and foremost if you're going to spend all this money on the driver. Don't feel like you have to go with a 9° also. If you're a mid handicapper, and of course depending on your swing, a 10.5 is the sweet spot allows you to go down to a 9 if your swing changes over time and can bump it up if you get slower the older you get. Just my two cents.
Just got fitted for a shaft by ping, they said it’s no flex. More like in between a regular & stiff at 65g. Gave me an additional 5mph club head speed. I think it was that kylie white shaft.
I've always liked the factory Alta offerings. Nice with smooth tempo. Regarding spin, I always keep the face of my driver protected from corrosion with a light layer of chap stick or other lubricant.
I’ve paid for 3 x 200 dollar fittings at precision golf and all fitters disagreed and aggressively hated on one another’s opinions. I’ve learned more from this video than their fittings.

Exactly what I have. The Ping fitter didn’t even recommend the 10K version.
Love this. Don’t think people understand how much of a difference shafts make compared to heads.
Please do more as the driver season begins
This mirrored my experience with the G430 10K - just picked one up with the Tour 2.0 Black! You could throw a blanket over my dispersion!
Awesome!
I’m using the chrome tour 2.0 stiff in my Ping G430 Max 10k. The feel is just incredible and the numbers match the feel
