Background for Blackbird Lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Myles Kennedy wrote the lyrics of "Blackbird" for his friend Mark Morse, who died during the composition of the song:
"Blackbird" was inspired lyrically by a friend of mine named Mark Morse. He sold me my first guitar when I was a kid, and we stayed friends for years and years. He actually passed away right as that song was being completed so it was dedicated to him and his memory. It's really about seeing the suffering he was going through and hoping he would find his solace soon and be free from all of that.

This band is amazing and Myles Kennedy is a epic vocalist. I was introduced to him doing vocals for Slash's (Guns N Roses) side project and he was killing it. Within the last month I now have their catalog and its amazingly good listening rock music. You just put it on and chill out till it finishes kind of music.

I love this reaction. Some will find this song very sad and emotional. You seemed to find it more hopeful. Even though this song was written about someone who passed away, you heard something a bit different. That's the beauty of interpretation and how a song can make someone feel and react like you did (especially hearing it for the first time). Most writers will tell you it doesn't really matter what they wrote the song about, but rather how it makes the listener *feel*.
But, yes, this is definitely a masterpiece!

Bro they got so many great songs it's ridiculous. The Black Bird album is great, but the AB III album man, I don't think there's a single track on that album thats bad or even mediocre. It's the total package.

Let us know what your wife thinks! The song is actually about a friend of Myles who passed away. But the beauty of music is that you can interpret however it is most pertinent to you. But they do have a song about rising up from the ashes. It's called Fable Of The Silent Son. "Like a Phoenix rising from the dust I've come to lift you up".

I thought so, yeah. I heard in a rock magazine it was voted third best rock song of the century.
The solo has previously been voted as the greatest guitar solo of all time because of the collaboration as well as the emotion conveyed within it.

I feel a lot of the guitar parts over the rhythm parts sound a lot like birds calling out.
Any version of live black but EXCEPT Amsterdam...The singer was sick so it's not his best live version....any other. Plus you wanna hear how good this band is at singing, react to words darker than their wings live with the Paramus orchestra...NOT STUDIO VERSION FIRST!!! This song is actually better in this concert than on the album
