Josh, thanks for this. I am on Vegas Pro 20, and the only Apple options are ProRes BUT I was able to get a simple lower thirds to render and then used Shutter Encoder to create a VP9 WEBM file for OBS and it worked, transparency and all.
Thanks so much for this, great video man! Glad someone is acknowledging how outdated QuickTime is, all the posts I could find on Google (and some other recent videos) only talked about that and not any alternatives.
HOLY SHIT BREAKTHROUGH JUST HAPPENED HERE, on the first try! Months of struggle, pain & research finally came to an end! Thank you so incredibly much for a very informative tutorial!!
there is that meme where someone could'nt understand a particular subject, and some random indian guy on youtube was like "come son, i'll teach you". today, you were that indian guy. thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot man! U saved me about another problem i had about import a .mov file with transparency background but that was not visibile on Sony Vegas (I had black BG). And thanks to u i set it the Alpha channel on Straight (unmatted) and i did it! 👍👍😁 LIKE!
Thanks a lot. I searched for like an hour on the internet on why I couldn't render with Quicktime but it only showed other problems. Glad that I found your video and it's kind stupid on how sony vegas 17 needs you to enable it first.
There is another way of doing it by rendering as an image sequence using png still files. I do this transferring from HitFilm to Vegas Pro, but equally, you can render an image sequence using VegasPro. 30 secs of UHD image sequence (25fps) uses about 300mb with png transparent images and is same quality as the original frames before rendering. This is easy to import into Vegas Pro through the import media facility.
2:19 Render with Quicktime 7 (.MOV file) Most common but outdated way of rendering a transparent video 5:34 Render with an alpha channel (.AVI file) Updated version of rendering, but HUGE file. I am using the AVI file version as it works in adobe premiere pro if anyone is wondering! The MOV version doesn''t work for me.
You deserve more praise my dude and all the people like you. Without people like you social media would just be a soulless husk but more soulless as it already is
Great stuff. That's this evening rendering off all my graphics and pop ups. Should make rendering a lot faster in future rather than lots of 4k nests being processed for the final render.
I know you know A TON!! I have recently learned a bit in blender...you know how to make a transparent video in blender...QuickTime im guessing... into vegas pro to keep transparency..is this even possible?...also thank you so much youve helped me in many ways!! thank you!
I just wanted to say that i just tried the Quicktime way in Vegas Pro 15 (Too lazy to upgrade my Vegas365 to 17 (SMH)) and it worked (With graphics and a flash transition and not just text). But it's important to make sure your video properties is the same as your rendering settings. I thought I could skip that step and it was a mistake. | Thanks!
Hey Josh, another great video, alot of times i have found if i need a transparent backgroud on a particular clip i will go to properties then details and click the straight unmatted button and "bam" it works, of course sometimes it doesnt, and thats where some of these instructions will come in handy, thanks again Josh
ok, but how do you export it as an alpha channel video, so like if I add a greenscreen, and i put it in say obs, for something like a stinger transition, i can see underneath it instead of it being black
There is one other way to out put alpha channels. That is with using Image sequence - PNG. This will render out a series of still images which will have the alpha channel. Best to put these images into a folder. And then you can import then back whenever you want to use them again. The file size is about the same as the mov format.
Uhm... Josh, I don't think I'm doing anything wrong but I can't see Quick time 7 on rendering options, I downloaded it 7.7.9 version, enabled plugin on Vegas but nope can't see any quick time 7...
Hello, I have a question: Is it possible to render a video in Vegas so that you can use it as an alert on Twitch, for example? Because then I still have a black background in other programmes.
That's a good question and I don't see why not. It all depends on how much you can customize the already programmed alert. If it allows you to swap the media, VEGAS should be able to render something to fit it's needs. Otherwise you'll have do do some programming inside OBS to make it work.
Hey, Scrapyard, are you having any trouble using Sapphire plugins or Twixtor with Vegas Pro 17? They work fine on 16 for me, but 17 has this weird glitch where Sapphire transitions/effects and Twixtor change the color of my video. It's really bad. Also, when I create .cubes and try to reload them, nothing happens. It's a little more than frustrating. Any insight would be much appreciated.
Borris and other plugin creators are coming out with updates to their plugins to work with V17. I believe it's an anti-piracy thing. I haven't had any trouble loading custom LUTs so I'm not sure how to help on that one. I'm sorry
Just tried this with Vegas 18 using second method and could not get to see background ? oopps ! helps if ya change the right file in the properties after rendering :-)
I have a major problem with this. On a 2 second clip, it gives me a 1GB video file... It's impossible to use :( Do you have any idea why? I can't seem to find a reason behind it.
I was so frustrated with getting the quick time 7 template to come up in my rendering options window.... all the vids on RUclips were for Vegas 13 etc... thank you my dude
None of the other tutorials actually showed that you had to enable the quicktime plugin. Taking it step by step really helps out, thank you man!
I recently installed Vegas 17 and could not find the Quick Time rendering setup. So thank you for explaining how to enable it.
Josh, thanks for this. I am on Vegas Pro 20, and the only Apple options are ProRes BUT I was able to get a simple lower thirds to render and then used Shutter Encoder to create a VP9 WEBM file for OBS and it worked, transparency and all.
I'm still using Vegas pro 17. I appreciate that you did the leg work 3 years ago!
Thanks so much for this, great video man! Glad someone is acknowledging how outdated QuickTime is, all the posts I could find on Google (and some other recent videos) only talked about that and not any alternatives.
im using vegas16
problem is, there's no "deprecated features" tab on preferences
Can yah help me about that?
Thank you for talking about downloading quick time. That was holding me up.
That is Perfect, it even works as an transition in OBS.
HOLY SHIT

Yeah, this guy saved me from so many headaches, really informative.

Ottimo tutorial
Thank you so much
THANK YOU
Thank you. What if the video has green screen instead of black background instead ? would the process be different ?
If it has a Green Screen then you'd want to key out the background first using the plugin Chroma Keyer
Ty so much!
thx you for the parameter plunging quick time

Thank you so much for this. I tried this on Vegas 19 and it wont let you render a QuickTime MOV. Any workarounds?
nice thank you for this video :)
You're welcome 😊
Thank you so much, the 2nd process worked although I got a 13gb file out of it. lmao.
How do you make a white background in a mov video file transparent? Is there a compositing mode that would make a white background transparent?
thanks for this video. On my video, the object seems to be translucent or has Opacity. Do you know why this is happening ?
Hi I actually have enable the quicktime but still there are no option for quicktime on vegas 21 is there any option to export transparent bg ?

I downloaded quicktime and enabled it in preferences and it still doesnt come up... what am I missing?
Im sorry i wasn’t the first i was sleeping
3807_Q Gaming You will be punished by God
and how can i make a black background transparent?
Why don't you render the text with black backround instead?
Im going to test this later for obs streamlabs as a stinger transition will edit if works
Did it work? I am trying to figure it out
0:00 - 1st way (Involves QuickTime)
5:26 2nd way
Just saving this comment here for later

Look in my recent videos about how to get a low file size with alpha channels. That is exactly what you're looking for.
what if I have 1 video in one video track then I duplicated it, the duplicated track don't appear even though it's straight unmatted,
what do I do?
Same with me
How to export if out of sony vegas so i can use it on other places and keep transparent back ground?
Rendering is a way of exporting which would allow you to add your rendered video to any other NLE
Does it work in vegas 17?
Nothing is working plelase help
I was so frustrated with getting the quick time 7 template to come up in my rendering options window.... all the vids on RUclips were for Vegas 13 etc... thank you my dude
I followed all steps but quicktime is still not showing up as a render option. vegas pro 19.
