I thought this was going to be another RUclips amateur teaching the masses about color grading, but this was not. You showed first color corrected (WB) and then did grading. That alone is extremely rare to find on YT. Vegas FB page highlighted your video, so I'm glad they picked a really good tutorial. Good tip about the color wheels at the 12:00 mark. Never knew thats what it stood for! That makes things easier for me.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm trying to break the mold and become the first RUclipsr who teaches very in depth, accurate, and informative VEGAS tutorials! Stick around if you want! I'm aiming to upload twice a week :]
@@ScrapyardFilms Hello! I want to ask you (if you have such information, of course) to explain the render settings . Unfortunately, I can't find the answer anywhere. The fact is that I can't activate the color subsampling and color bit rate settings . Do you know how to do this?
As someone who's never color graded before this is extremely helpful. Really needed this as I'm experimenting with Vegas Pro 17 for the first time as I just bought it a couple days ago.
I would like you to talk about two very common cases: a shot in which there are no white colors and a poorly exposed shot in which the lights are totally burned out. A color correction covering both cases would be fine.
I thought this was some another short tutorial on Sony Vegas but this was something more than an in depth tutorial. You ought to have a million subscribers .
Hey man, you commented on a reddit post I made about color grading based off of a RUclips video, and I checked out your channel. This is INSANE, it was so easy to start color grading and by the end my clips were just gorgeous. Thank you so much for this, you’re probably the best VEGAS Pro guy by far.
Wow! You covered so much in few minutes, extremely helpful to understand the basic controls of Vegas pro. I think this tutorial is a must for any hobbyist working with Vegas pro. Thank you for a doing such a great job and sharing your knowledge.
Wow. This is beyond helpful. I have subscribed. I am an audio guy being thrown into video to help diversify my audio business. So I have much to learn about video. I have chosen Vegas Pro as my NLE, so my education is now beginning. You sir are most excellent. Thank you!
This was extremely helpful, thank you so much. I'm so glad you made this and that Vegas finally incorporated this into their program. I've been a Vegas user since 2006 and so use to its platform that this tool has been revolutionary since you showed me how. Thank you!
Please, please, please, make a video like this, but more friendly for begginers. I suggest you take the "COLOR CORRECT Like A PRO" video from Matti Haapoja as reference. Thanks and greetings from México. Great Work! I hope you can help those of us who are really starting.
Thankyou sooooooo much for this video coz I have been struggling with this topic when it comes to editing videos. You've made it really easy to understand
My problem was the reverse of it, I wanted that brighter diff thing. So I figured it out using WMV V11 format and changing its settings, now it is 100% as it shows in the preview, no quality loss btw.
i bought last year an xc10 and I didn't know how to use it because of the exposure and settings but now I set up the camera on CLog and follow your tutorial I ended up with nearly 1:1 on color, i have to buy better lights but I`m so FK happy because you made this tutorial
Yeah sounds good! shoot me a DM on Twitter or email me and we'll figure something out! Look for my ingo in my 'About' section of my channel since it's not liking me linking stuff in comments.
What a brilliant tutorial. Regardless of what the final outcome is, you actually showed us how to get there and what each adjustment did, allowing us to make our own decisions on our edits. A lot of colour grading tutorials just explain how to achieve a specific look. Fantastic work. Subscribed! One quick question regarding workflow - when working on grading an entire timeline of clips, how do you work in Vegas to compare to achieve consistency? Can you show multiple vectorscopes?
As far as I know, you cannot use multiple vector scopes at the same time. You may be able to do that with 3rd party plugins. But how I achieve consistency is by creating custom luts for certain shots after I've completed the correction and the grade for the scene. I shot 3 scenes outside in the sun? Make an outdoor lut. I shot 2 scenes indoors in the kitchen? make a kitchen lut. I shot 4 shots in a dark office? make a dark office lut. You can also next a bunch of shots and then grade the nest to apply it to all footage in the nest.
@@ScrapyardFilms thanks for replying so promptly, that's really useful. I didn't think of creating my own LUT. I've been saving a Vegas media/clip FX chain as a package, but obviously that has its own cons as well. Do you have any advice for scenes that are consistently inconsistent with their grading needs? I.e a scene shot inside near a window, where clouds are coming and going in front of the sun, causing white balance and appearance of the video to change constantly?
This tutorial is outstanding and has helped us so much with the look and feel of our band videos. Are you planning on doing an updated version for Vegas Pro 19? The workflow in 19 seems to have changed to the point that a new guide would be hugely helpful to the Vegas editing community :)
I actually normally skip the "color grading" because Vegas makes it so difficult to micro-adjust and go straight to the "color correction" plugin which has ALL of the same features and turn on my vector scope. I think you've basically reinforced my approach.
Correct. Alt+G is a new feature for VEGAS Pro 17. All the color grading tools are still in V15 but separated out between a few video FX plugins though. And thanks!
I am very sad that Hitfilms-Movie Essentials is missing in MAGIX Vegas Pro 17. A few days ago I bought a Vegas Pro 17, but I didn't realize that this version of MAGIX Vegas Pro 17 does not include these plugins. I spoke with the MAGIX team and they said that the problem is with Hitfims - Movie Essentials, because they do not have plugins updates.

Hold control to make the color wheels usable.
Ah hah! I could have sworn i help control while dragging those points but I must have missed that. Great info. Pinned!
This works for most settings like sliders in Vegas Pro as well.

Do the white balance part and reduce the reds and try to get the little white circle in the exact center. That would take the pinks out
