Well that’s because Florida drinking water is gross in general and the pipes it goes through probably haven’t been changed since they were put in.
Dasani has always tasted like plastic to me, yuck. I would rather well water, that's how much I hate Dasani.
I cannot imagine being locked in a cell for long periods of time. In my opinion, solitary confinement is ABUSE. Not rehabilitation.
Maybe for a normal person. But Christina has a great point. What about the people who are never getting out and just don’t care and can/will hurt staff or others? The others should suffer because that individual doesn’t care and it’s “abusive” to contain the person? Nah. Lock that person up in solitary. And again, they might even need a mental health facility etc. I don’t think prison is meant to be a rehab place.

hi my names CATRINA • Idk where you’re from but I’m also in FL and the prison system here is terrible. My brother has spent all of his adult life in prison because he apparently knows no other way. He was in and out of trouble growing up but after 18 he really screwed himself. 10yrs and was out for less than a year (this was about 3-4yrs a go when he was out) and got locked back up again. Apparently “rehab” (prison) didn’t teach him anything. I know not every person is a repeat offender (Christina got her life together and is an amazing human being) but I think the majority end up right back in prison. So who is that really helping?

My dad spent 9 years in a male’s federal prison in Oklahoma. He was put in solitary confinement for fighting and they left him in there FIVE months. He’s been out of prison for almost five years now and he has extreme social anxiety now. His therapist thinks that his experience in there left him socially disabled and because it was in the middle of his sentence he didn’t get the proper mental healthcare he needed for years.
Mental healthcare is so important. More than most of us even know.
Karli Habel solitary confinement can actually cause people who didn’t have a mental health issue to develop one. Studies have shown that and yet it’s still a method used A LOT. I’m so sorry about your dad. That must be difficult for him and your family.

I'm in the psychology honors program at my university and my thesis is about correctional officer-inmate relationships and environmental conditions of restricted housing units (RHUs = solitary confinement).
Nice, good luck! When I was locked up, it became very apparent that people began to act like animals when you kept them caged up like animals. Especially in the hole...people start to go crazy. A lot of inmates already suffer from mental health issues, but when they're left in solitary confinement and not given the proper treatment...some people exhibit really odd behavior (like throw feces - true story, and actually not as uncommon as you would think 🤢)
It's crazy how people are treated. Whether you are in there for a dui, something you DID NOT DO (remember, jail is pretrial inmates too, not to mention other innocent ppl who were found guilty), or actually.guilty violent offenders..in a jail, you're all sort of mixed together but the guards treat you the same regardless (like absolute garbage). Its weird, the way they look at you, talk to you, intentionally egg you on, degrade you, etc. One actually patted me on the head and said "good doggy" when I did what I was told. Are you kidding? Shit isnt funny. Ugh, I'm glad you are doing this because It is wild what some (most, even) of these guards consider appropriate treatment. Disgusting

I don't know how you did it in there, Christina. That's so stupid to put you in there on the grounds of kissing another girl (even if you had been), when there are people who are actually dangerous.
We are a family with guards in it. They try to discourage known sexual interactions because people get in fights over it. I don't think most guards care but if you get caught, they aren't going to lose their job because of it. It doesn't seem a fitting punishment for non violent behavior.
I got put in the hole for a week for writing a letter on the wrong color paper. No joke.

Water ABSOLUTELY has a taste. Especially when it’s room temperature and that’s exactly how it’s served in jail/prison. 🤢 I would miss many things being locked up but inaccessibility to refrigerated drinks would be one of more difficult things.

I am all those things too and it was SO hard and terrifying all I did was cry the first two days and I constantly fought off panic attacks but eventually you resign yourself to it and you start to get your own little routine and you force yourself to get up and eat that disgusting food just to survive. We were in a tornado and the whole jail
Lost power for two days , the toilets wouldn’t flush it was SO HOT AND SO DARK you couldn’t even see you’re hand in front of your face, I slept a lot. The only light I got was when they would come back and check on you with their flashlights. But you get through it because you don’t have a choice.

The water in different states in Australia tastes different. When we would stay in a motel in another state to visit my brother we had to buy bottles water to make tea and coffee because it tastes so disgusting to us.
It’s the same in Sweden. In the town where my mom lives the water tastes great but in my city it tastes disgusting - like pure chlorine 😒 and then in the area where my family owns a small cabin the tap water isn’t even safe to drink whatsoever.

I’ve only done time in a jail in New Jersey. I was housed in medical where they put people in the hole or ad seg. At 8 o’clock am usually, most of the time. An officer would go around to the people in the hole and ask if they want their hour. 90% of the time they refused. Don’t know why, and also they were not cuffed. You also could get whatever drink was served at meal time. Sometimes you could ask the officers to put ice in your cup. I was free in the small pod and could pass them books. I believe they were allowed to have mail too. So yeah definitely not as bad as what you described 😐!!!
They also limited the amount of time in the “hole” in the whole state of NJ. Max is 30 days as of a few years ago. However if your ad seg, administrative segregation, that could go on for a very long time.
So glad your family is safe after the storm hit your area! 💕 I totally agree with you, not all water taste the same. Lol It never gets old listening to your stories! You're a GREAT story teller, you really need to write a book or star in your own movie! ❤❤

I am french. When I used to live in Paris, the water always had a slight after taste of chlorine. I would let it sit in a jar a few hours so the taste would vanish.
Now I live in the mountains of Auvergne where there are many well known springs (Vichy, Volvic, St-Yorre.....) and the water (like the air) is super pure and fresh. Basically mineral water at the tap. Delicious.
After having been used to such high standards of water quality, I would do very poorly in solitary confinement 😳

One political prisoner here in South Africa (Winnie Mandela) wrote that she was so lonely in solitary confinement that she would talk to the ants that walked through her cell. That really just made me think.

In the mental hospitals they have a "freak out room" it is padded floor,walls,ceiling. Mine didn't have a bed. They bring your food on and everything is like a softer but hard rubber so you can't hurt yourself. You gotta do something pretty severe to get put in there, they normally do bed restraints.

no taste is actually correct! because *flavored* water does exist (cherry, grape, it’s gross lol) but using taste in this context makes sense because we’re all just referring to plain water

Hard water tastes terrible. That's probably what she's talking about. Where I live our water is like that. It has to be softened to get rid of that taste.
In NC correctional in Raleigh,
if your sentence was a min-to-max sentence you could work your time down and get out early for ‘good time.”
You could get 2 days off your “max” sentence per 30 days served, if you didn’t have a work assignment yet.Those with work assignments or taking educational classes got 4days off, Kitchen work assignments got 7 days. You just couldn’t work off days past your min sentence.
Say you had a 12 month to 18 month sentence you could work it down. But, only to your min.
which would be 12months.

You ain't alone in the water question. Best municipal water I ever had was when I lived in Arvada, Colorado. That was just like bottled water. But here where we live now used to taste like sulfer when my husband's grandparents lived here. My dad's best friend lived right next door so we played here growing up and it tasted the same there. But 15 years ago they annexed us into Town Limits and forced us to go onto the town water/septic. That at least got rid of the sulfer taste of our well water Buuut everytime we have a heavy rain or hurricane come through we know dang well in at least 3 days our water will taste sour and have a yellow or light brown tint to it like when leaves get into a bird bath. Then they'll shock it and it is so full of chlorine that we end up with dry skin and resort to dry shampoo for our hair because the tap water damages our hair until it goes back to normal.
And living here on the east coast girl we were thinking about you all. By the time Sally got here she was just a lot of rain and surprisingly came with a cold front. That was odd as all get out, usually they bring tropical air and even the occasional 🦜 that got caught up in it. We can't ever remember a cold front blowing in with one in 40+ years
Mosaic Crone There is a front that brought down some cooler temperatures further south than usual for this time of year. At least for where I live in SW Florida. I’m sitting on my patio enjoying the weather as I type this. High pressure systems act as steering flow for hurricanes that make it far enough west into the gulf. Part of what made Sally such a historic rainmaker was her extended time spent over where she made landfall and that was because she had nothing to steer her until the front arrived.
