harry pag Teachers in NJ work ~ 180 days a year. If you remove summers, holidays, weekends, teachers conventions... It equates to roughly 180 days a year. Not bad doing that for 20 to 25 years collecting a pension someone barely contributed to and, those platinum benefits the union heads didn’t wanna have teachers contribute 1% to.
Marilyn Tonelli 1/2 the time? What? No I am not a teacher, i work in the financial sector. Teachers work whatever the calendar year and contract dictate. On average 180 days. If they worked more they would get paid more. Most public school teachers have master degrees and are greatly underpaid. You could say the same of Police and Fire. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time I have heard a comment like yours. A person with a master degree in a private sector job would expect $150,000 based on 260 days of work. Governor Christie explained why and how New Jersey can’t possibly fund the pension. Unfortunately that teacher was only listening to her union, because the union backed and trusted the Democrats (as most municipal unions do). Democratic ideas and promises are great until they can’t be paid for. Which is all the time. Democrats sink unions!
Barry Smith most public workers absolutely contribute to their pensions (police, fire, DPW, teachers) 11% on average and only collect at best 60-80% of the pay. Saying a municipal worker does not contribute is wrong. I do think crazy health benefits that can be reduced to a normal amount is the thing to do. The municipal worker when retired still pays for some of the health benefit with their pension check. Most teachers go with what the union suggests- that’s wrong -- no Democrat is going to tell them how it is. Democrats will destroy anything they touch.

@@SaltyAlaskan79 she didn't use today's numbers when refering to her pay in the 80s. Sooooo, she is full of shite. I was a teacher for five years. Not a Christie fan but this was phenomenal. Extremely rare to hear a politician draw upon granular but easy to process information like this in a live setting-unscripted!
The question I have which no one seems able to answer is how these benefits were paid for? Pensions or defined benefits were in addition to your salary for over 70 years. Health insurance was free with little or no out of pocket costs. Now you have to take money out of your salary for a retirement fund. Pay huge monthly premiums out of a salary, that is stagnant at best over inflation, for health insurance that only kicks in after thousands of out of pocket expenses. Oh yea and paid time off is being chopped in half. So work more, get paid less, and spend your money on doctors bills. The American dream is all it ever was for a majority of Americans. I have to work 90-100 hours a week to get ahead. I wonder how long I can keep that up for until I drop dead of a heart attack. At least my kids won't be to upset. They've barely seen me because I'm always working.

He’s transparent, he’s direct, he’s real, and he doesn’t run from confrontation. He wasn’t even rattled. AND he articulated all of that “off the top of his dome” on the spot. I really like this guy. Mind you, I’m not a Republican.
Funny, the algorithm suggested this video to me recently and I’ve also been interested in knowing more about Christie. I see true potential in his thought process.
I always loved Chris Christie. He is smart as a whip, has years of experience as a gov., District attorney that has never lost a case and tells the truth and can handle confrontations and debates as a pro.
When the retirement benefits were established no one considered that almost all retirees would flee the high taxes of New Jersey and relocate to places like Florida. This forever removes that money from the local NJ economy.
Wow A politician that knows his numbers and data/history etc! Refreshing. And he is bold and truthful telling people that don't want to hear anything negative but it is the truth!
except that he runs on the logic that it cannot be afforded. His arguments make sense only if you take this principal idea to be true, but what I see is a politician who is more willing to cut teachers healthcare benefits (which is a human right in most of the world) as opposed to raising taxes on the wealthy and forcing corporations to actually pay what they owe the state. Moreover, he could use his political platform to challenge federal austerity measures, arguing that the government should divert military spending, to say, subsidize these healthcare and pension programs for people who literally maintain society. He doesn't seem to do any of that, very interesting. I wonder why?
@Michael Thomas I taught for over three decades. I worked full time and went to graduate level teacher training full time and still made it to the Dean's list. I met and worked with hundreds of teachers and never found one of them to be even mildly like what you are describing. I can't imagine what compels you to write in such a politically partisan way, but trust me, teachers by and large stay in teaching because they love teaching, love to see students learn, love to see them master the skills that will take them closer to their dreams. Why not give education another try?
You have never been a "Christie fan" - or did you mean to say I've never been a "fan of "huge Christie?" He should give up eating before his tiny heart (which matches his tiny brain) EXPLODES!
And you're just shedding IQ points to beat the devil. smh Why is it these PAID TROLL comments always say "You know I really dislike the guy but he's got a point?" lol
I live in Florida and funny thing I see teachers complain so much about their pay and blah blah blah! But when I'm dropping my kids off at school in my worn out 15yr old truck that I can barely even afford tires for, in the teachers parking lot I see new Mercedes Benz, BMW, Jaguar etc. Makes me question how is this possible to be paid so little but able to spend so much?
My wrestling coach always drove a crappy car and always said it was the best he could afford on a teacher's salary but when he retired, he and his wife (who never had a paying job) moved into a $800,000 condo and both of his daughters went to expensive private colleges. What a scam.
The more you give, the more they ask and cry of being oppressed. Up here in Ontario, it's the same thing....the staff parking is like a showcase of $60K+ SUVs. Acuras, Toyota Front Runners, Nissan Muranos, VWs, and Honda Pilots. And that comes packaged with a top end salary of $97,400/year salary(at least for elementary...I do my wife's taxes), golden pension for life, benefits on top of the free healthcare, and a decent amount of paid sick time available. Yet all you hear in my area is how hard up teachers are.
"Teachers" who continually 'feel' cannot be objective. This "Teacher" 'feels' bullied when Christy educates her with facts. She begged to be enlightened & she got schooled. I 'feel' bad for this 'Teachers' students.
To be fair, you gotta understand that people do get affected by people's tone of voice. Christie had a pretty shitty tone (which I also get, I get that way trying to explain shit to people who don't listen/know shit), but people shut down when you raise your voice.
This is what I like about Christie. He goes into a debate prepared, facts and figures in his head, ready to discuss to the detail, any topic that's on the table.
but when Joey B does it, no good. All special interests put these plants in the audience or these people do it on their own and they deserve to be called out on their shit
Throwing money into school systems does not give kids the ability to be intelligent. Teachers that know how to motivate their students does. Their are lots of lousy teachers out there who should not be teachers and are boring as hell.
Don't forget we are also paying for illegal alien kids. They cost even more because they get free breakfast and lunch, have special translator and after school programs to help them with English.
This is the argument for privatizing education. Imagine how many private schools would be created to compete for that money. Parents would have vouchers to send their kids to the school they choose. Do you think the same amount of students would come out of high school illiterate?
I’m not a republican, and I probably disagree with him on 60% of issues, but I would be very glad to see Christie be the republican nominee in the ‘24 election. Hell, I think I’m going to contribute.

1961casey Canceling might happen on a business to business contract, but it can’t happen with the government, otherwise we lose all faith in the government, which can only lead to total collapse of the government. There was zero evidence that the contract was going to destroy the state. All Christie had to do to fulfill the contract was raise taxes, so all he was trying to do was screw the teachers because he didn’t want to raise taxes. Worst person and worst governor ever.
All teachers today suck they want 200 grand a year to do nothing if I was govenor I would tell them they have a better chance seeing rain everyday then getting paid more lol

I was a public school teacher in Texas for ten years as a young guy. Then I quit and went into the private sector, and did much better. This woman is part of the reason I left teaching. Many teachers have no clue of what goes on in the world. And many of those become administrators.
So many of those administrators are so egotistical, and smug, that no one should ever challenge them or tell them something different bec they are boss and they get to make the decisions. How dare you! That’s all of them attitude! This teacher has no business being in a school setting
@millerjoan she has facts.... facts are something she read somewhere😒😂 omg and these are our kids teachers. Mom i learned a bunch of stuff my teacher read somewhere today.....
Sadly, teachers are not actually teaching much anymore. There are multiple reasons. One is that the the curriculum is being decided by people who aren’t teachers. They also are not teaching how to think but what to think. Also the I’m not here to be bullied comment, was a bit silly to me. She’s able to tell him what she’s thinks she knows but when he questioned how she “knows” what he could have done he’s bullying her. Hypocrisy. I’m a parent of three and pay for private school simply so my kids don’t have to deal with this crap. Not to mention the strikes, walk outs etc. When he answers, she argues that he’s wrong. She doesn’t go to the meetings he goes. She doesn’t know. It’s bs. Btw I’m not a Christie fan but he’s explaining the facts. Economics are fact based not feeling what you’ve earned.
Hell yea

Mind you, I’m not a Republican.
Yea mate , that was good mail .. I think you nailed it.
And yet he still voted and supported the former guy, and it only took six + years for him to finally speak about against him.
When the retirement benefits were established no one considered that almost all retirees would flee the high taxes of New Jersey and relocate to places like Florida. This forever removes that money from the local NJ economy.
Yeah, but then they move and vote for the same idiots that’s caused them to move in the first place.
C Carter he’s a republican. They never want those things to happen.

There was a lot of information in here about several items of importance

I don’t think it’s right to humiliate the teacher for speaking out for what she believed in. Sure she was wrong but there is no reason to demonize people for speaking out. Its not nice to be so polarizing, it’s a debate, there will be a loser in most cases. She was not rude to him and i believe he handled it quite appropriately. It was a very constructive debate.

@@matthewcortecero703 you're talking about big government, when she's talking about the local and state level. There's only some much power the NJ governor has over taxes, healthcare and no power over military spending. If he raises taxes to a higher rate, companies will leave to another state. So Governor Christie artfully used numbers throughout to prove his case, knowing full-well that there are so many more details about his numbers that only a person whose studied them would know. Please Raum, come back from Japan, we need you!
