I’ve got a fitting with the Ping Rep next week (Qld, Oz) so this vid has been utterly invaluable and very insightful and exactly the sort of comparative data I’ve been looking for all over the bloody internet and couldn’t find!! And then your vid popped up via RUclips algorithm! Perfect! I’m definitely in the G425 or G710 capability based on your vid so that will assist in the fitting.

    What I find interesting is just how similar the data between certain clubs is. The i59 & i210s produces almost identical data with the i59 spinning a little less but compensating with a higher peak height and descent angle - but I suspect that with a larger data set and statistical significance analysis the differences would almost disappear. Same is true for the G425 & G710, there is almost nothing to separate them. If anything the Blueprint is the disappointing club, it should be very similar to the i59 but is not - maybe it makes up for it with more consistency. The oddity in the data is the i500, which may be why it is due to be replaced, on the data it is not similar to the player clubs or the game improvement clubs but roughly half way between.
    The data for the i59 compared to competition is also very interesting, the i59 spins a lot more than the competition, launches high and has a slightly steeper descent angle - should mean the i59 is more likely to hold the green, although in fairness to PXG their 7i is about half a club stronger, goes a full club longer and if you were able to do a comparison between PXG and i59 at the same lofts I suspect the descent angle and peak height would be identical but i59 would still spin more by maybe 300-400 rpm - those extra grooves maybe?

    • @todaysgolfer
      @todaysgolfer  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the input Justin. Yes possibly on the extra grooves. If we get time we're interested in doing a full set test against similar lofted irons to see if there's more spin in the longer and shorter irons too, then we could rule in or out the extra grooves. As we mentioned in the video Callaway offer their tour players the choice of either standard face grooves or more and the split is pretty even between the two, so there's benefits and trade-off's for both set-ups.

    Hi guys … thanks so much for the videos and reviews.
    I’m very interested in the g425 but I’m a little confused.
    I saw carry distance #’s that vary from 175( in the chart in your “ irons of 2021”)… but in that same report you put a link on for a review on the 425 and the carry distance was 188.
    That’s quite a difference.
    Then in the video here comparing all ping irons the carry was 183
    So 175.. 183 and 188
    Please clarify as I’m really interested in the approx distance that this iron gave you.
    Thank you!!

    • @todaysgolfer
      @todaysgolfer  2 года назад +2

      Hi Vern, thanks for the question, and thanks the feedback.
      We've said it a few times before that data is only really relevant on the day it's created. There is always a difference in data when comparing data from different tests. And no matter what you test, comeback another day and the numbers will be slightly different.
      The tests we've done on the G425 have been spread out across 12 months. During that time, we've tested with different golf balls, in very different temperatures and Neil has been speed training during the same period too. Obviously that means there will be a variance comparing with data from one day to another.
      From what we've seen and had feedback on (from the industry) is that testing all the same products within any given test on the same day is what's important. Then overtime we can look for trends. Like, how Ping's G425 Max driver hasn't quite been the longest or fastest driver we've tested for two years running, but on each occasion it has produced the smallest carry distance drop-off, so it's super forgiving.
      Hope that helps?

  • @ianburton9223
    @ianburton9223 3 года назад +1

    Really appreciate the comparative comments. I now have some difficulties understanding why the pros chose to use "difficult" clubs - what's the advantage for pros?

    • @todaysgolfer
      @todaysgolfer  3 года назад +4

      It's because some pro's (not all) like to see, or are most comfortable seeing a shape to their shots Ian.
      Shorter blade length muscle backs are easier to 'work' and 'shape' at will, as the centre of gravity is closer to the shaft (they're the lowest MOI models). The pro's that like shot making like this, like to be able to think about hitting a draw or fade and it just happens without having to change their swing drastically to hit to left or right pins.
      Some of the pro's who use this type of iron (Tommy Fleetwood is a great example) will have a stock shot in their bag for a back left flag. And they'll say it's harder to manufacture that with a more forgiving iron.
      Obviously that's very different iron traits to what most club golfers are wanting.
      Hope that helps.

I’m a good ball striker but the mp52 are straight but elevated greens are difficult to get the exact yardage. The m2 is good for strength shots only ( i enjoy moving the ball). There's quite a few factors that are different between the i210, i500 and G425.
      i500 was Ping's first hollow body (and remember hollow bodies typically up launch a little), the iron has a forged face (C300) where the others are cast (G425 from 17-4 SS where the i210 is 431 SS).
      Unfortunately it's not quite as simple as comparing apples to apples.

    I’ve been as low as a 10 handicap, crept back to a 12 last year. Currently playing the older i20s, and was considering going to the i210s. Now I’m also looking at the G425 and the g710 (love the look!). Seeing how similar the numbers are in the chart, I’m confused as to why the G425 is for an estimated 8+ but the g710 are for high handicappers. I like the extra distance they both offer, but as a 10-12 current handicap, would love to hear your thoughts. I want the g710s but feel as if that’s a step in the wrong direction. Will only be purchasing 7-PW, FYI.

    • @todaysgolfer
      @todaysgolfer  2 года назад +1

      Ping see the G710 much more as a distance iron, and typically it's higher handicap players that focus more on distance. The G425 blends distance with forgiveness for a more across the board performance...not sure if that helps?
      You might struggle to get a fitting on the G710, they're no longer available in the UK, be we are aware there's sets out there in the market place.

    • @todaysgolfer
      @todaysgolfer  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback Martin really appreciate it. The i59 are an iBlade replacement. We have no information from Ping on an i210 replacement, but it's highly unlikely based on the success of the i210 (at £126 a stick in steel shafts) that it would ever be replaced by a £239 a stick i59 - that's a £791 difference for a 7-piece set. The type of player who would buy either is two very different consumers. We mentioned in the video that i59 is not an i500 replacement, it's not and the loft tells that story, what it does do is showcase how far players' iron have come over the last 5-years.
      An i500 replacement is likely at some point next year, but with so many component shortages in golf right now nobody is quite sure when (it's already been pushed back twice from this year).
